Great review. Informative and I enjoyed it. I saw you have an iPhone X next to Gear Sport at the beginning of the video. Have you paired it to the iPhone and how have you found that?
Your my new favorite tech reviewer I like alot of your content...if I could give you one minor suggestion maybe start adding some small B-roll to your video/review
Great review! Meeting notifications are one my top priorities in my buying decision. I have and exchange based work calendar/email. Does the Gear Sport require use of a specific calendar app? will it synch with android outlook app? Also, any issues with water proofness? Showers salt water? Thanks.
The GPS is finicky. I've descovered that I need to connect my watch to my phone PRIOR to the workout in order for it to understand where it is. I've gone on a couple awesome hikes and come back, linked it up with S Health and the GPS info and map are gone. Despite the watch saying "GPS detected" when the workout begins. Also, the heart rate is very inaccurate. The best features are the GPS info (when it works) and the step counter. Always accurate.
4 days?? Mmmaann wtf, do you have ANYTHING on?? I work out literally everyday, and sometimes twice on weekends. I don't wear it when I sleep, get plenty of notifications, and don't even have NFC, Wi-Fi or GPS on....and I BARELY can hit two days. Only big drainer I use is Auto-HR, but it sounds like you have that on too with no problems...im confused asf
I'm a heavy Google user but I think the S3's are better watches. Not a fan of the LG sport and I've read the battery life is worse than the S3's. Question is. .....how many goggle apps work on the S3? Like can I use my Google calendar and Google now? I know it runs on Tizen but can I download the major Google apps? Good review and thanks
Ashraf Jandali I have the same problem! I'm going to turn off the autowake feature and see what happens. Otherwise I'm going to bring it back. Battery was the real reason I switched from android wear so I'm rather disappointed.
That's a simply question and a simple answer. You use more programs and have settings on that drains more battery, like "watch on/off with wrist movement", turn it off and rather use the bezel to turn it on and so on. One would expect people to know this in 2018, it's the same with phones, one phone with 100 things running will drain faster than a phone with 15 things running. He even explains it in the video that they turned auto-on off.. Did you not listen? :P
I don't have one any more but when I did I easily got 3+ days as long as I didn't need to track any long exercise sessions. Try turning off s-voice. It sucks anyway. Also turn off WiFi unless you currently need it. I never used nfc either.
Question regarding Spotify and downloading music to the Gear Sport so I do not need to take my phone. How is it done? I do not have the option on my gear with the Spotify app. Thanks
I've never owned a smart watch or thought about getting one until I recently switched from iPhone to android. I would like to stay in the Samsung world. Would you recommend the Samsung gear sport or the all the new Samsung active 2?
Dunno if you still need advice but it depends on your budget. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is better but the Gear Sport is really cheap today on eBay (60$ approximately)
Nice job on the video. Do you know if you can use the Armour Record App on this unit? I currently have the Gear Fit 2 pro and you can. And it works very well. I actually have a weight Guru wifi scale and it automatically downloads your weigh to the Armour Record. Thanks EBPMAN!
The fact that the frontier does not charge as well in the sport charger is simple, newer technology supports older tech, but older tech is not great with new tech. PS: Average 3000 steps a day is weird if she works out every other day.
I used to own the LG G watch and when I received multiple texts on whatsapp from different conversations, I was able to navigate to each conversation and see all the unread messages in each one of them. Is that available on the gear sport or do u just get the latest message from each conversation?
I personally use the Gear Classic. I work in a business setting and like the fact I can change bands and go from sport to business. I dont do much talking on my wrist so having a speaker is not an issue for my. Also I dont listen to music from my wrist either. Bluetooth is good for about 99% of the people I know. My wife likes the Sport because of the size of the watch it self
I just purchased a Samsung Gear sport for travel because i don't want to mess up my Apple watch. I have to say that the fear works better with my Pixel 4. Horrible on the iPhone max. I have been a tech for 20 years and I have tested a boat load of gadgets. I understand why the Apple watch is the number one watch, Samsung jus has way too many bugs in their software. Drives me crazy. I love how the gear sport looks. It's nice and premium looking but the software has years to go. Well that's my experience with the gear. Any suggestions on which Samsung I should try?
I haven't yet found a way to track my heart rate and do time intervals in a single app... So it's a bit finicky when using it for a training method which is common for people who focus on fitness.
I must be the few that does samsung pay (always having hard time getting vendor to try) but sucks that sport version does not have magnetic strip capabilities (only nfc) while gear s3 has both.
Dumb question. Do I have to carry the phone if I go for a run in order to track it? I'm about to buy this or the frontier. I like the look of the frontier more, but I'm attracted to the size of this watch.
Patricia GM you don't have to carry the phone to track it. If you want to get messages then you need to pair it to your phone. Other then that you don't need your phone.
Answer, no you do not but it'll be better if you do so it connects and has good wifi?? I had a Samsung Gear Fit 2 and it got laggy so probably same for that watch.
One more question. For example at job I have Wi-Fi but I can't have my phone by me.Can I have notification from whats app or viber? What is better at your opinion frontier or this sport?I know that this is stupid question but if we don't talk about size and that waterproof watch
can you make calls? without your phone NOT being anywhere near it? Like can I get notifications during running WITHOUT my phone?Any way to notify in an emergency while running without my phone?
one review showed the water proof app and how it works. It did have a moment where it would produce sound to clear any water out of the speaker. So not too sure why you would say there is no sound/speaker.
The gear sport does not have a speaker due to the exceptional waterproofing but has a microphone! You might have seen some other watch maybe gear s3 or the galaxy watch!!
Anthony Rampino I have them all. I personally go with the classic. My wife likes the sport due to its size. I have other videos you can see of the other two as well
Got this watch few days ago, and I can't even express how infuriating it is. HR monitor doesn't work AT ALL unless you're still and not sweaty, but even then sometimes it decides that you have 120 pulse instead of the real ~60. Even everyday hand movements like chopping onions and cooking makes it measure ~130 pulse. It shows "now" for the pulse even if it didn't actually manage measure it for minutes. When it measures a nonsense value like 140 while you're still, it keeps that value and decreases it very slowly for minutes, before it start to show the actual. Tightening the strap, rotating the watch to the underside of the wrist, and using the other wrist doesn't help at all. Impossible to have any trust in the HR it shows. And it's so bloody heavy that good luck using it for any real biking without beating the hell out of your wrist no matter how tight the strap is. Literally gave me sore spots on my wrist. Counting things like crunches is horribly inaccurate and useless. And when you turn on "always on", because well, you want to keep seeing the workout info... it still hides the bloody workout screen and shows the watch screen instead. WHY, Samsung, WHY? Even after setting the screen timeout to 5 minutes, it often just decides to turn off the bloody screen. This is the most annoying piece of "fitness" crap I ever owned; I would expect these things from a 30 USD no-name Chinese product.
I get nowhere near 4 days. 1.5 days at most. And that is just using it as a continuous heart rate and one work out a day using gps. I prefer to charge it 1 hour each day rather than let it run down to zero and then have it on the charger for 3 hours .
I'm barely getting 12 hours from 99% to 18% you guys thing anything wrong with watch or I'm doing something wrong, is a brand new watch, should I exchange it? Please help me..
Thats such good battery life! I only get 2, maybe 2.5 days and i find that if i track sleep one night then the next night itll have to be charging so it defeats the purpose which is sad. Also while sleep tracking i noticed a break in my sleep like an hour that it didnt track anything, which was weird... Other than that i love this watch! I use it for walking, cycling and Zumba (as Other workout mode) and all the smart features. And i got one for my husband as well so hes addicted now too lol
I love the watch but I have to charge it every night . I cannot wear it to bed or it will be dead early morning.. I have cut the fun features way back and this does not help
I found GPS to be okay, like it would show me half a block away, then back to where I really was. Think v shape. HR isn't really accurate when weight lifting, but most wrist hr watches are the same. Resting hr is pretty close to accurate tho in my experience.

What I don't get it - everyone is saying the GPS and to a lesser extent the heart rate sucks on the Sport, yet most say those are fine on the Fit 2 Pro... which is a lower tier device. How does that work?
You only have to visit Samsungs own forums to know that the Fit 2 Pro has equally one of the least accurate heart rate sensors on the market. Users regularly reporting the device pulling 90 BPM when they are actually close to 150. Samsung recommend that you stop moving when using the sensor in order for it to take a proper reading. Its ridiculous either way. I don't think its necessary to buy a smart watch to know your heart rate is high or low...your body lets you know that.
Had mine for a week and a half and battery life is abysmal. Can't get more than 2 days no matter what combination of settings I try. Probably going to be returning this tomorrow.
Karl Johnson not sure what your doing wrong but if you set it up like he did with screen off . Then there's know reason you can't get at least 2 days are more . Everyone's setup an use is a little different . But I have all the gear watches with my S3 I get 2 days with screen on . With my gear fit 2 with screen off I can get close to 4 days . Remember he's got screen off an it only comes on when he turns the dial hope that helps you
Phillip Pugh last charging cycle the battery lasted 39 hours with AOD off. I have the wake up gesture on, but no way that should make that much of a difference. I've reached out to Samsung support who recommended I exchange it. This one must be defective. Seriously considering returning it and getting the S3 frontier instead... How do you like yours?
Karl Johnson I have both the classic an frontier love them both the battery is crazy good as you know . But there big if you can live with that then your good
Mr Flame not sure what your trying to accomplis with your watch but 2 days on any smartwatch is pretty good for all that it does . If you just want a fitness tracker sure they'll last longer but won't do much else . That's gonna be your call . My S3 gets 2 full days screen on a 4 days with screen off
I have the gear sport and 24 hours typically only drains between 20-30% of the battery, even when actively using the watch apps. You may have a defective unit.
Experience as a smart watch good to great. As a fitness tracker just OK. As I'm finding it hard to track desired workouts. Samsung Health vs the watch is a joke. I wish Samsung Health had a dedicated workout time line like the sleep. (unless I'm doing it all wrong)

That works well. Its fast but you need to make sure that the card terminals have the feature on. The classic and frontier can use the Magnetic Card reader so IMO its more flexible.

How do you like it in relation to your S3 classic? If you had a choice of either which would you buy?
When I try to connect it to my iPad it says ur device does not support it how did u do it?
Does it have to be Spotify? Can I stream music with Google Play Music? Or Amazon Music? Or regular MP3 files?
Can I use my bluetooth speaker with this watch to make or answering calls ?
Do you like the Samsung Gear sport or gear s3 classic better

BTW- great name, dude!
Ha! yes it is my friend. Thanks for the reply.
The fact that the frontier does not charge as well in the sport charger is simple, newer technology supports older tech, but older tech is not great with new tech.
PS: Average 3000 steps a day is weird if she works out every other day.
So I take it that Garmin watches would be the best option? I primarily need to monitor my heart rate while cycling and kayaking.
Can you show how to get workout programs to mirror on the phone or tv. They said go to the gear app but I don't see programs. Thanks
I used to own the LG G watch and when I received multiple texts on whatsapp from different conversations, I was able to navigate to each conversation and see all the unread messages in each one of them. Is that available on the gear sport or do u just get the latest message from each conversation?
In an exercise mode, does the watch show your heart rate range (%age of max), on top of the actual BPM?
Great review! Thanks!
Which do you prefer? S3 or gear sport? Which do you prefer as a normal smartwatch, like apple watch?
I personally use the Gear Classic. I work in a business setting and like the fact I can change bands and go from sport to business. I really like the active 2 it's matured alot and feels close the the apple watch from a fit.
@@ebpman Thank you.. I'll check it out.
do you know an app where i can get notifications from facebook messenger?

You cant use the s3 charger for the sport because it has that bump for the HR sensor

Is the Samsung gear sport/Samsung gear s3 are better than the micheal lors access??
Are you able to downlowd additional apps on the gear sport?
Yes
So to answer a call it would only work if we are connected to headphones?? or the texts???
how about the vibration. is it strong?
is the music player supported with equalizer? TIA

How well does it work with Whatsapp? Can you reply with presets or with voice?
Can the gear app take both the gear sport and iconx ear buds at the same time?

is there a way to send a message over wifi?
Can we have Google maps ?
What 4 days? I only get one Day of battery life, i lose 10 procent overnight in power save mode
Does it have mic? so i can use S- Voice to answer a message? thanks
Oswaldo Martin Dorantes yes it does have a mic. Though I'm finding the voice recognition cumbersome. It works but not great.
Thats such good battery life! I only get 2, maybe 2.5 days and i find that if i track sleep one night then the next night itll have to be charging so it defeats the purpose which is sad. Make sure you turn off wifi. Its on by default. This kills the battery fast
I love the watch but I have to charge it every night . I cannot wear it to bed or it will be dead early morning.. I have cut the fun features way back and this does not help
Is the gps accurate? Is heart rate accurate?
I found GPS to be okay, like it would show me half a block away, then back to where I really was. Think v shape. HR isn't really accurate when weight lifting, but most wrist hr watches are the same. Resting hr is pretty close to accurate tho in my experience.
Accurate heart rate except it lags a little when you start something.
The heart rate is probably the worst feature in this phone. Its still using years old technology. Its generally always out, but its not a feature that I actually care about...that and sleep tracking are useless for me, the GPS is pretty damn good though. I used it for a week long hike and plan on using it for my Thru hike of the Appalachian trail next year.

I just wanna know if you can ping your phone. That's really all I need
+Ruben Sepulveda are you referring to the find my phone feature?
EBPMAN Tech Reviews yes please
EBPMAN Tech Reviews Yes can you? i believe the frontier has this feature, I too wanted to know about this on the sport since I jog myself.
Without a speaker if the feature is available the watch will.only vibrate
Jason G actually the phone is the one that will ring. So you can find the phone
Had mine for a week and a half and battery life is abysmal. Can't get more than 2 days no matter what combination of settings I try. Probably going to be returning this tomorrow.

Experience as a smart watch good to great. As a fitness tracker just OK. As I'm finding it hard to track desired workouts. Samsung Health vs the watch is a joke. I wish Samsung Health had a dedicated workout time line like the sleep. (unless I'm doing it all wrong)
Hi. I'm particularly interested in the integration of the SG Sport with S Health. Since this posting has your opinion changed? What particularly problems have you found with synching fitness activity (and nutrition if you're using this) with the S Health app on your smartphone?
Wallace Abbott I work out less now since the purchase though I use MapMyRun. I don't think it syncs into the health app for later viewing. Even though you can log into the health app from MapMyRun. I'll link another review if I can find it as dude is spot on and basically says the health app is garbage. It's just frustrating that so many tech items (s.g.p.) get held back by software development or lack there of.
Do have nfc? How good is nfc payment?
That works well. Its fast but you need to make sure that the card terminals have the feature on. The classic and frontier can use the Magnetic Card reader so IMO its more flexible.
Stupid sport does not work returned two for constant error message gear plug in not working
Fitbit ionic lets you put in calories, that said the watch lacks serious power! very laggy and slow, expect 5sec delay when entering apps or basic settings. A great fitness tracker but it´s not a smart watch
why pink :/
Where is your band from?
it's strap studio =)
SSSSAAAMMMYYY thanks
I still don't get why it's so awesome and practical to have a dialer. I only know my mom's phone number by memory :/
Jacob Cárdenas i rarely use the manual dialer. I mostly use contacts
EBPMAN Tech Reviews oh OK, I thought so. I'm doing the same then :)
I'm lucky to get 24 hours battery life
Lol apple watch’s battery lasts a day
Can you reply to texts with more than quick responses
Gary Brown yes no problem using s voice or a small keyboard on screen
Mr Analytical Awesome, thanks.

momodelair I got the opportunity to buy it for the same used nicely here in Norway. Are you enjoying it? :)
That's nothing, i got it for $179 during black Friday from best buy.
You didn't even test calories burned, how can this be a review about "what works, kinda works, and doesn't"?? Incomplete review.

Even I want to know this. I have not found an answer for it. I have tried may different channels.

Does the watch measure heart rate 24/7 like the fitbit ionic?
Yes
So when you look down at your wrist any point in the day it has a real time heart rate reading? Thank you
