    I like that you always mention gym exercises in your watch reviews. I can’t run anymore due to injury and find most other reviews just focus on running.

    Thanks a lot for your great effort and review, I noticed that while HR on the Apple and the Gear Sport was similar, the calorie count was miles apart - at one point in the video the GS is showing 50 calories after about 12 mins and Apple is showing 141 after 14 mins why is this, and which one is the accurate

    I have my heart set on the Samsung Gear Sport but read that the GPS has some lag that occurs on initial sync and throughout the run. Have you noticed this during your testing? I have an opportunity to get the fitbit Iconic at a 50% discount ($150) as a replacement offer as the band on my Surge bubbled, but II like the look of the Gear Sport much more. Thx .

    Thanks for the good review. I really like the Gear Sport but I've just tested my second one. The first one was pretty good with everything except swimming where it is over-counting lengths by around 25%. Just tested my second one for swimming and found the same thing tracking two separate swims. An 1100m swim was recorded as 1250m and the second, 1400m swim was recorded by the watch as 1650m. It's a shame because swimming accuracy is important to me as my primary workout. So, if I weren't swimmer I would totally keep this watch. I agree that the interface is preferable to Android Wear and it really is a good looking watch - but I'll be trading this in and going back to the Garmin Vivoactive 3 - it's interface is hard to see without glasses - but it's very accurate...and can pair with a chest strap HR monitor.

    Hello! Thanks for your videos and reviews! I am torn between the Gear Sport and vivoactive 3! Now I watched your review for the fit 2 pro and I see the HR isn't accurate. For the gear sport you seem to have liked it for intense training. Considering it is a better smartwatch feature wise, would you say the HR accuracy compares with vivoactive 3?

    • @TechyAgent

      I would say that yes, they are comparable in terms of heart rate accuracy, probably about the same with the Garmin being only slightly better.

    Nice review Eric. Nice to see that Samsung is finally improving on the sport aspect, but they should just go ahead and collaborate with Polar. Together they could make a nice looking watch that's also also a very capable fitness tracker to rival Garmin. On a side note. Are those Altra shoes you're wearing? I love that brand. Helped me to stop heel striking which cured my knee pain and over pronation issues. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

    I don’t think you mentioned it, but does the Gear Sport track your VO2 max? Also is the heart monitoring continuous? And as compared to your Garmin Vivoactive 3 review you say both are better of the wrist based monitors. Between the two which performs the best?

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 лет назад

      +Allison Friebe it does not track VO2 Max or heart rate variability, and it does track your heart rate continuously if you are exercising, but not during rest. Between this and the Vivoactive 3, the Samsung did have a more accurate Heart rate monitor for exercise

  • @jamesw2831
    @jamesw2831 4 года назад

    Would you recommend this for someone who wants to track their heart rate in the gym, even in 2020? This seems to be Samsung's most accurate watch. Or is there something else in the budget range you can recommend that pairs with the arm heart rate sensor you use?

    Happy Holidays! The spinning bezel feature is cool, but it could've had a slightly bigger body to house a larger battery ... still think the Garmin Vivoactive 3 (which has a slider on the side that acts similarly to the rotating bezel) is a better option, rocking the Vivoactive HR until it breaks down

    Hey Eric, it's long since we've talked man. I have been using your combination of Garmin VHR plus Scoche rhythm plus till this date as per your advise. Thinking of changing the setup. What I have in mind in the Vivoactive 3 or the gear sport. What would you suggest. My sports are Zumba, weight training and Taekwondo and have been maintaining a bf % of 10 for almost 2 years now. Thanks to the diet based on the near accurate caloric burn, by the combination you've suggested me 2 years back. And to be honest I'm in love with how good the gear sport looks. I don't know about US but here in India gear sport is a tad cheaper than Vivoactive 3

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 лет назад

      I would recommend the Vivoactive 3 because it will pair with your Scosche. The Samsung doesn’t have he ability to pair with the Scosche.

      If you have an android phone, the Samsung Gear Sport is a great choice. If you have an iPhone, the Polar A370 is a good choice. Between those two, the Samsung is better, but only if you have android, because the Samsung Watch is limited when paired with an iPhone.

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 лет назад +2

      I usually recommend manually starting out a workout instead of relying on automatic detection, because the heart rate sensor refresh rate will increase. Your heart rate data won’t be as good if you rely on automatic detection, usually.

      @TechyAgent  6 лет назад

      +dmb7280 I doubt that Samsung will try to tackle the strength training, but that being said, Garmin’s strength training is good, but I prefer not to use it for most work outs because it does slow me down trying to enter in information on my watch. They are both great devices, so I think your approach of buying both and returning one will definitely let you decide accurately.

      Both are good options, they each have their respective strengths and weaknesses. For strength training I prefer the Vivoactive 3 Because it’s pairs with a wide variety of external heart rate sensor switch I prefer to use when I’m doing strength training and lifting exercise

      +Daphne DPics yes, the Apple Watch can connect to Bluetooth chest straps. Other smart watches and trackers that do this would include the Garmin Vivoactive 3 and Polar M600.

    I just bought a gear sport and will now use it as my main fitness watch (formerly Polar M600). This is because I finally found an option to connect it with an external HRM (Polar H10). The "Sporty Watch" watch face is worth the $3 charge and syncs with Strava.

    This is the one I was waiting on. I know you compared it against the apple watch, but because I don't own an iPhone which would be the better device to purchase. The fitbit ionic or the gear sport? By chance did you have a chance to try the offline music streaming.

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 лет назад

      I did not try the music streaming, sorry. Between this and the Fitbit Ionic, for an android user, I would say this: The Fitbit Ionic is going to provide a more streamlined, easier, intuitive experience. The Samsung will be a little more hands on, require a little more of a learning curve. The Fitbit Ionic is probably a better watch for health and fitness tracking, while the Samsung is a better smartwatch experience, but with health and fitness tracking that comes close to the Fitbit.

      Hi, I just got the Fitbit ionic, and honestly I’m disappointed. Here in the UK half the features they have advertised are not available. And seems to count steps that I’m not doing, which then effects the amount of calories burnt by the end of the day. This is my first smart watch/fitness tracker. Thinking of taking my ionic back and getting either the gear sport or the garmin vivoactive 3. Eric could you advise please??
      One thing I will say is the build quality of the ionic is brilliant. And it’s a very comfortable light watch.

      I had the gear sport and returned it for the ionic... Couldn't be happier with my decision.. I absolutely looove my ionic, but as he mentioned, I am way more worried about the fitness features than the "smart" features... I use my fitness tracker go track my fitness. I cycle around 20-30 miles every day and the GPS and music works flawlessly, links right up to my strava app as well as my jaybird x3s with no cutouts or drops.. Unlike the Vivoactive 3 music edition with was literally unusable for music because it skipped non stop... I highly recommend the Ionic! I have only owned 1 fitbit in my life, it was the charge 2 when it first came out and I returned it 2 weeks later so I am in no way a fitbit fan boy... Also too all the "problems" you will read or hear about regarding the ionic have been fixed with firmware updates... I almost didn't buy it because of all the problems and bad things I was reading about but it was on sale for 50 dollars off so I pulled the trigger and havnt in countered a single problem that I read about almost keeping me from giving it a try!

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 лет назад +1

      In terms of accuracy, I’d say it’s on par with the Fenix. The biggest difference is that the Fenix can use the GPS for MUCH longer, because you can adjust the refresh rate of the GPS and because it has longer battery life

    I had this watch for only a week but the GPS works great. It takes about 3 seconds to locate my whereabouts. The battery though. It pretty much needs to be charged every day or two. HR sensors awesome as TechyAgent confirms. All in all, I think this is a very solid investment. Far cheaper than FR 935 and Fenix 5 but does well on everything it does except battery life. Plus is the touch screen and awesome menu navigation for Gear Sport. Thanks Techy for good honest review.

    I'm having a similar experience in the gym. Bought the watch a few days ago and have found it to be superb. Turning down the brightness which doesn't need to be high extends the battery life considerably. Charging every 48hrs typically. Sleep tracking is also very good particularly the app that tracks and wakes you so you feel fresh by a certain time in the morning. Hoping the lag on GPS will be fixed in a firmware update. Although have found it good when playing golf and better if you have the phone with you to get a quick fix first.

    • @GabeCuello
      @GabeCuello 6 лет назад

      Shofwan Amrullah I am actually putting together a "battle" per say on which watch i want. I made the first video on the vivoactive 3 vs gearsport since i didnt see anyone else do it on RUclips. But to answer your question, its basically a great watch but lacks sharp image details, fast syncing with phone devices, requires phone and PC app/software, doesnt take or receive phone calls, and gets glitchy. As a strength athlete, its a good watch but if you want to track your HR you will need a bluetooth HR device. Both combined makes this an excellent device. I hope this helps or my video at least answer some of your concerns.

If you want a more general watch, something with some good smart features, good fitness tracking, and good overall performance in all areas, the Samsung is a good choice.
