    Got the watch a week ago and go far I love it. I havent tried choosing to track it's just bee auto detecting my work outs. This explained why I'm not getting a HR throughout. I'll try choosing to start an activity and see if it tracks. I also need to find something that will map my routes outdoors. Just need to play with this more. Thanks for the review. It helped.

    Enjoyed the video. I have owned a Samsung Gear Sport for a couple of weeks now, and appreciate the demonstration of its features! I bought it from Best Buy, who,provided no sales help at all. I like the watch myself, especially the multitude of different faces. The charge lasts almost a day, so I have to put it on the charger in the evening when I am sitting quietly. I replaced the strap with a mesh metal strap with a magnet for closure, thinking I'd go back to the Samsung strap for swimming. I don't like the fiddley buckle. The mesh strap magnet doesn't work too well, though.

    I like that you compared this watch with the Fenix 5x. I have had a Fenix 5x for almost a year and before that Fenix 3 and other Garmin watches. My wife baught me some wireless headphones and I was womdering if I could listen to music on the 5x. News flash "No". I then saw that the 5 plus had this capability as well as NFC but with a $1149.99 price tag. I have ordered a galaxy watch to replace my Fenix 5x.
    Thanks for the review.

    I just bought a gear sport and will now use it as my main fitness watch (formerly Polar M600). This is because I finally found an option to connect it with an external HRM (Polar H10). The "Sporty Watch" watch face is worth the $3 charge and syncs with Strava.

    Awesome review Des. I recently got to play around with the Samsung Gear Fit Pro 2 band and I was blown away by its Display and UI. However I want a circular watch face design like the Gear Sport. That vibrant screen made the VA3 look dull in comparison. Hence I was waiting for your review to see how well it works with an iPhone. And it works well enough for me so I can’t wait to get it.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  6 лет назад +1

      +SurbyBiker sweet! Ya, I’ll have some more in depth information about Samsung Health for iOS but it is in no way as close to robust as GConnect so keep that in mind. All they have to do is put some work into it and it will actually be a viable option for iPhone owners! And thanks!

    Thanks a lot for the review, was really waiting for it after I saw your unboxing video. I bought the Gear Sport recently and used it already for a couple of runs. I do have the feeling though that sometimes the average pace is a bit off, got a few weird mile times in my health app (too fast/slow, since my pace was fairly constant). I also managed to sync my S Health with Strava automatically, but then saw that my data in Strava was very much different from S Health. This didn't happen when I manually uploaded the .gpx file to Strava though.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  6 лет назад

      +Willem Gielen I’m having a separate episode on Strava and I’m doing some testing for that as well so look for that soon! I didn’t really have any issues with pace being too far off. Did fast and slow runs and seemed ok for me. 🤔

I love the look and the offline Spotify but worry about the actual fitness tracking, especially the GPS which has been getting pretty poor feedback on a lot of the forums and from DC Rainmaker

    Just got here from your Galaxy Watch video and I also watched the Gear Sport Android vs iOS video as suggested by you. I must say that it's very good that the heart rate tracking is working so well. Except a few misses to track. I'm not really bothered by the other problems like elevation, indoor mileage accuracy or some limitations of the iOS app. Maybe the only thing is that you cannot block specific apps from sending notifications on iOS as opposed to Android.
    Really hope they improved the fitness capabilities further with the Samsung Galaxy Watch as well as have at least the same accuracy for heart tracking. One question though:
    You only briefly mentioned that the battery life was about 4 days in smartwatch mode. Can you please go a bit further into details?
    1. What brightness level did you use?
    2. Was continuous heart rate monitoring activated?
    3. Was the option to turn screen on during notifications activated?
    4. How much activity tracking per day was used? (without GPS)?
    Thanks!

    Hey Desfit,
    Great review as usual. I am your new subscriber and found your channel while researching for Fenix 3 HR (yeah I am late, I know this is outdated device but Fenix 5 is out of my budget). Please help me in comparing this against Fenix 3 HR. I am 4-5 days a week runner (5-10 km per run) and strength training athlete. I need notifications on phone as well but super accurate measurements of my effort are slightly more important. The fenix 3 HR which i ordered is still on the way.

    Hey Des, awesome review as always. I love the Gear Sport but I am on the edge because of some of its metrics. I think it does a horrible job of calculating calories even though the HR measurements are solid. I would love to see an comparison where you compare steps and calories to a, let's say vivoactive 3 or any other garmin device. Would that be possible?

    Hey dude, nice work on the most in depth review of the gear sport to date! I've had mine for about a week now and do like it but it does something really annoying. When im out on a run the running data screen times out so i keep having to turn the bezel or touch the screen to see my data, did you have this problem?! Its using S Health. Also because of this i feel it isnt constantly tracking all data like pace and distance as there are differences between the audio promps i set at 0.5 mile intervals which do seem accurate but do not match the running data screen.
    Have you had this experience or know how to keep the screen on while running all the time. I already have the 'always on' toggled so its not that. Cheers!

    Hi ! I've discovered your channel with this review, great work ! Really in-depth and clear at the same time.
    As for the total ascent and descent, it is simply for how many miles you were ascending or descending during your workout, and not how many feet you climbed. The difference between these two figures and the total distance is how much of the track was on a flat ground. It is not an uninteresting figure to know, though it would be a good thing to indicate the total elevation too (hence the confusion I guess).
    As for me, I have the Gear S3 Frontier (and the Fenix 3 HR) and the Gear Sport seems to be a bit of a downgrade in comparison except for the swimming part obviously.
    Keep up the good work !

    The stock exercise profiles seem weak. Alot of them seem to be one exercise and it's iffy if anyone would activate just for one exercise. Why is there no general gym/strength profile? Why can't this be paired to an external chest strap? I also would not bet on Samsung adding those features in an update. It's like alot of Samsung products: good hardware and not so great software/interface

    great review. could you tell me what 3rd party app you used for "general" strength training workout please?

    What about VO2 max? On Samsung's homepage I can read "Get on top of your fitness with VO2 Max, or choose from countless compatible weight management apps to help you get moving." But I can't find any reviews mentioning it or any other info on there homepage. Where can I find the stats of VO2 Max?

    Like the Gear Sport watch but the accompaning app slows down the cell phone (Galaxy S5). The phone's wake-up has been slowed down so much that it sometimes goes back to sleep before the password keyboard appears.

    Thanks Des...was waiting for someone with a serious look on this interesting tool and you hit the jackpot.
    Are you going to have a deeper review? I want to change my polar and this Samsung is on the list with a Fenix 5s. Hr sensor is really important for me and I didn't completely understood how reliable is in the gear Sport.

      Thanks! The HR is quite accurate actually. Other than the HR dropping on maybe just 3 runs/rides, it works great. I wanted to mention it because it did happen but like I said, my fenix 5X has bad days too ;)

      This is great Des. Actually I think I am representing a vast community of pals probably not deep enough for a Fenix, but not completely satisfied by an average tool (my case a Polar M600, good but not great). Activity tracking is very important for me (Some working days I have no time for anything more), but I am also serious in my workout (on the gym) and in my run (not programmatic but regular). I live in Switzerland and I also hike when possible (and planning to start to ride a Mbike). My interest in the Samsung is because of this: I was expecting a good activity tracker enriched by Sport functionalities and hopefully a good battery life (my Polar hardly ends 2 days and this is honestly disappointing). What I really need is a tool that help me to hit my next level, which surprise me with metrics I can use to understand me and my body, but I don't want to be overwhelmed but tons of info I don't know how to use. Probably the next Fenix (in 2 3 years) will be my choice, but today I have the feeling is too much... saying that, there is an excellent offer for a 5s in the biggest portal here in Switzerland and I am very attracted, but this Samsung is still more than 100 chf cheaper and looks like to have all I need (maybe not a great battery life).
      If you can help me to understand how to choose I will be very grateful... and probably many other person like me will be as well... I have the idea mine is a kind of big community.
      Thanks Des

      +Sebastiano Fuccio the nice thing about the fenix 5 series is that it’s a device that has gone through its trials and tribulations and at this point, with numerous firmware updates, it seems to be quite solid and I can definitely say that they are 98-99% reliable. The other HUGE thing to consider is Samsung Health and Garmin Connect. It sounds like you are serious about increasing performance the Garmin Connect will be much more helpful and significantly more robust. If it’s close enough in price, I would lean towards the fenix.

      DesFit is definitely a good point. I have the impression in Us these gears have better price but hard to find a Fenix priced less than 600 chf. The portal I mentioned is now offering the 5s (several colour and without sapphire) at 529 completed by a limited set of black ones at 475. The Samsung, newer hence not discounted, is around at 369 399... not really a big difference and I have the impression is worth every single frank

    Great video, as always! But I don't understand if there is any way to get those running features i usually get on garmin forerunner watches. Is it possible to create personalized running sessions?

    I had a vivoactive 3 for about two weeks but returned it - mostly because, without my glasses, it's hard to start and pause a swim because the display lacks contract - and size of icons necessary to see without my glasses. I also hated the charging cable for the vivoactive 3 - because it was a little hard to plug in securely - the original vivoactive charger was so much better. I returned the vivoactive 3 and got a Gear Sport. I've had a Gear Sport for about a week and I love it EXCEPT it is terrible at accurately measuring swims. Yesterday's 2000m swim was recorded as 2400m... and the device has consistently measured 20-30% too many lengths whether using the S-health swim tracker or Speedo On app. A great disappointment for such a nice device - but also a deal breaker. Also the Speedo On app didn't sync to Samsung health. Endomondo worked great with it though :) Now I'm pondering my options.... might go back to the vivoactive 3 and take a pair of glasses to the pool - or wear my contacts.

    How is Strava support? Can you transfer your activity to Strava even when you use an iPhone? It`s a make it or break it thing for me.

    How is GPS accuracy for you? I know some reviews said it was a tad off at time, decent when hiking and could be better when in the city.

    Hi Desfit,
    It looks like Costco is carrying S3 for $249 which seems like an awesome deal. Btw, I'm waiting for your confirmation to see if you can use any of the Under Armor apps (Endomondo, Record. etc) with iPhone. If that is possible, it would be the best option if Sammy Health is buggy on iPhone.
    Please let us know.
    Thanks.

    I LOVE your reviews and I've been watching and rewatching this one and the Vivoactive 3 and I CAN'T MAKE UP MY MIND!!! Bought the HR but it's way too clunky on my baby wrist, so I will most likely be getting either the samsung or the VA3. For someone who loves outdoors, swimming and Spartan races; which one would work better? I need the metrics/GPS accuracy of Garmin but the music option on samsung is pulling me towards it. Help. Pretty please? :)

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  6 лет назад

      +Anna Mclean if you have a baby wrist, you may want to go for the VA3. It’s very small and light. The music is nice and all, but the Garmin is definitely more built for activities and sounds like you do them! Thanks so much!

      DesFit so I guess my main concern deciding was also the software and durability. looks like the Samsung has a better user experience and HR while swimming, but I try to decide which would live longer. I'm a nurse so gloves on/off, water, etc can mess up my garmin with the sensitive screen. I'm on board with you doing head to head comparison with VA3 as other suggested

      Anna Mclean so which one did you decide to buy? And how is it? Can't decide between the two either.

    Does Gear Sport display heart rate zone data on screen when working out? Does it help to work out in a specific cardio zone?
