+Kendra Orndorff I started on my watch. Every app that I included I started on my watch, and I would leave my phone turned off in the car just to make sure the app was truly independent of the phone.
Very helpful! Now in 2020, I Would love to know what you think now that Apple Watch 3 has had several software updates. Are you using the native more or different apps?
If I’m looking for a Apple Watch now, would you recommended waiting for the new one? Looking for something that is accurate at total calories burned while lifting, running and swimming
Thanks for the video, great to see all these activity apps and watch reviewed by someone that actually works out and not someone who just sits behind a desk
Great Review. Was going to upgrade to the Apple Watch. Learning now that the native fitness features Apple has are basic and you found third party apps also had limitations. I am going to stay with my Garmin Forerunner 910XT. It has great tracking for swimming, cycling, running, etc. Multiple metrics can be displayed during the activity and for review later. I am a long time Apple user. I’ll just wait to see what they come up with new native software options in the future.
Very good review. I wish someone would address how to reset goals within a workout. Somehow I have set a 23 minute goal for indoor cycling and cannot reset it to open goal. Any suggestions? Also, do you know if Apple has any plans to pair with Peloton. Love my Peloton.
Hi Eric, I bought apple watch s. 3 and scosche rhythm+ but I noticed one big problem. I am able to connect scosche with apple watch. But when i check the bluetooth settings for example in the next 5 minutes watch says that scosche was disconnected. But connection with phone works well. Did you have similar problem or it's just me?
I haven’t had that issue, the only issue I’ve had is during the initial connection. Sometimes I’ve had to restart my Apple Watch in order to reset the Bluetooth chip. Perhaps doing that might work for you.
Do you think the Apple Watch will be accurate for heart rate and calorie counting for my step aerobic classes? I also do so weight lifting and I’m torn between the Apple Watch and Fitbit charge 2
The Apple Watch will be accurate, but the Fitbit Charge 2 is easier to use. If you are a gadgety person then go with the Apple Watch. If you don’t like navigating menus and apps, the Fitbit is nice and intuitive to ise
Nice Review 👌🏻. How exactly do you estimate the calorie accuracy? It consumes on average about 300-400 calories less than Garmin. What do you think about it?
For jogging I and heart rate I would say this: they are about equal in terms of accuracy for heart rate tracking for jogging, BUT the Garmin offers more advanced running metrics (VO2 max, detailed cadence info, etc) that goes above and beyond the typical metrics of distance and pace.
I have read a lot comments about apple watch's GPS accuracy, people comment about that it is so difficult to follow consistent pace between intervals. Have you seen that kind of problem?
Hi Eric, what are your thoughts about the “total calories” that you can check on your iPhone at the end of the day. Is this accurate? Does it consider the after burn effect? I mean after you do weight lifting training you are still burning calories, how good is the Apple Watch on that?
In my opinion most fitness trackers, including the Apple Watch, are consistently inconsistent: what I mean is that they are probably not perfectly accurate, but they will be inaccurate with the same consistency each day. So you can still use it to get a rough idea on how much you should be eating compared to what you are burning. You may have to experiment with some adjustments in your calorie intake, so if you are gaining or losing too much weight, you can make an adjustment and then use the watch with that in mind. Don’t know if that makes sense or not, I can explain more if that was confusing!
Techy Agent thank you for your answer. Yeah it makes sense; then I have one more question, do you think a heart rate band will give me more accurate info? Or it won’t make a big difference. Btw I’m trying to gain weight 💪🏻. So I’m calculating my surplus based on my total calories.
Yes, heart rate band will always give you more accurate information. Typically it will reflect a higher calorie count because the heart rate sensor will adapt to your elevated heart rate much faster than the built in sensor.
+stroshow5 wow, I’ve never had that many calories counted on any device! Haha! You must be a very active person! I do think that the Apple Watch is accurate, and when I compared the calorie count against my Garmin watches, it’s usually within 100 cal of each other
im not a apple watch fan, I love apple products but I never felt the watch can fit what I want, but I will look for more of your reviews, and maybe Iwill give Series 3 a chance.
Hi Eric. I’m impressed with the fitness features of this watch. Did you ever have any issues pairing the Scosche armband to the AW3? Does it pair as easily as it does to Garmin Watches?
+John Manley I no issues whatsoever. I went to the settings on the watch. Selected “Bluetooth” and then turned on the Scosche/Polar H7. The hr sensor would immediately appear as a “disconnected” device. I would select it and it would pair and then say “connected”. It’s the same setup for headphones.
Techy Agent Good to know. AW3 is probably the best all around smartwatch. It has all the fitness features and is great for social media notifications. My Vivoactive 3 just can’t seem to figure out notifications. I owned the Blaze and it was the same story with notifications.
+Todd Wall Yes, I think it will. I’ll still use the Fenix for camping, skiing, and other outdoor activity. But 90% of the time the Apple Watch is going to be my new driver.
Techy Agent Good to heat that! I don’t feel so bad about my thoughts then too. I have a fenix 3 that I like too but it’s just a bit bulky overall. My wife got an Apple Watch recently and I’ve been very impressed. Do I like the idea of charging it every day, no but it such a great looking and functional watch that looks good in all settings. I thought I would use my fenix 3 for road cycling but found myself liking my garmin edge way more. Fenix is also nice for golf but I can find alternatives there too. I may make the switch this Christmas. Keep up the great work with this channel!
+Karan Batra It was good but I preferred Strava because of Strava’s simplicity. Here is the setup for Runkeeper: support.runkeeper.com/hc/en-us/articles/218197083-Setting-Up-Runkeeper-for-Apple-Watch?mobile_site=true
+Karan Batra runkeeper was one of the few (with Strava) that included gps. Endomondo and Runtastic both required your phone to be nearby to use gps, but Strava and Runkeeper used the Watch gps.
Techy Agent Hey Eric, can you test the Runkeeper app on Apple Watch 2 as well as you know both the Apple Watch two and the Apple Watch 3(non-LTE) sport mostly the same hardware and software support. I just want to know that Whether The run keeper app makes use of all the sensors including the GPS like the Apple Watch 3 or not
Great review. Finally got an answer to the question whether strava works and whether it records it as an apple activity too. Been reluctant to buy as Strava is too important to lose for me but also wanted all metrics recorded as an activity when using it.
Very well produced video. One of the better ones I’ve found on RUclips. Thanks for the info. I also use MyFitnessPal to track my diet. I’m searching to find out why when I manually add a exercise to the app it zeros out any calories I’ve already burned throughout the day via walking, at work, etc...? It puzzles me a bit.
I have about 5 or 6 pairs of cheaper Bluetooth buds, most of them have been sent to me by companies hoping I’ll do a review. Mostly none of them are any good, so I need to do a review soon if I can find a pair I actually like.
Hey Eric. If you want to track something like Tennis, how does that work? In the native sports profiles, do you choose “Other” and after the exercise, you can rename it to Tennis?
+John Manley in the apps that I used, tennis was not one of the sports profiles. So yes, you would need to use the “other” designation. Depending on the app you may have the ability to rename it to tennis, but in all honesty I’m not sure which apps do this yet because I’m still exploring all the various apps and their features
+John Manley I’m going to be running some additional tests on various apps in the next couple of days. I may actually review some of the Apple Watch apps to give my opinion on which ones I like the best, and that is the future I will make sure to take into account if I am able to squeeze some time to make this video
Techy Agent Great. Thanks. I would seriously consider the AW3, but I'm on Android. I'd need to get an iPhone first and that ends up being a much bigger expenditure.
Techy Agent It also has a great UI on the phone where additional history, achievements, levels, best 1k, mile, 5k, etc. are kept. It works seamlessly with the Apple metrics like VO2 max and are even displayed together in most cases. I was very impressed at the integration. I got the Nike watch cellular.
+Jesus Melendez I have not had a chance to review the Samsung Sport yet, but the Fitbit Ionic is a great watch, and Fitbit has a better track record with sports and fitness wearables compared to Samsung
I’m very clumsy so I took no chances with my watch. I bought a bumper and a screen protector and it’s already scuffed up after a month of use. I definitely recommend it to anyone else who thinks they’re clumsy, you won’t believe how seamless the watch becomes with your self and you bump it into everything as a consequence.
+Seanpie there are some good bumpers out there. I have one that snaps on without even having to remove the watch. I agree that the watch is definitely “seamless”. You can easily forget that it’s there.
TA, Terrific and very helpful review. More in-depth than most I’ve seen, from an exercise and app utilization standpoint. Looking to replacing my Series One with the Three. Thank you.
Nice Review. However, I would have loved to see more about gym based exercises like saving whole workouts with weights etc. I recently got myself an Apple Watch and simply the best app for that is Gymaholic. You can add your whole workout routine with reps, weights and rest time between sets (its a breeze to set it up, unlike others...Actofit anyone?). You can also super easily change the order in case the equipment next is in use already. However, it does not automatically count reps or form evaluation. But all it does, it does extremely well and thats more important to me than having 1000 features and they just work to 10%. Thanks for the sleeping app, been looking for the right one!
Techy Agent please do and tell us what you think. Since I just got the watch and the app I’m also interest how it displays my progress regarding weights. So far I’m really happy with it and I went from MS Band 2, Atlas Wristband 2 to the Actofit.
Great review. Question - I'm would like the Series 3, mainly for fitness. I'm debating on the 38mm vs 42mm (same price). I would prefer the 42mm but I'm worried at that size the watch may be a bit annoying while working out. Do you find the 42mm to get in the way? If you could pick a size simply for the gym, would you choose the 38 or 42mm watch?
Great review ! Still, I can't wrap my head around all these specs.of the Vivoactive 3 vs Apple watch 3. I was wondering which one was the best fit regarding tracking activities? I like to hike, do HIIT trainings and do Crossfit. Both of your reviews are great, but I still can't choose between both. What are your insights about both watch? Thanks !!
I think both are great IF you use an external heart rate sensor for things like CrossFit and HIIT exercise. The Garmin offers a good “one and done” solution while the Apple Watch may require piecing together several different apps, but gives a more satisfying approach overall, especially since it has better smart watch capabilities. I personally have wrestled with this very choice and I landed with the Apple Watch 3. I’ve been very happy with my decision, with the one caveat being that I use an external heart rate sensor.
Really great review, you covered it all. I have been using the UA Record App with MyFitnessPal for a while now. Works really well on the iPhone and Apple Watch!
+getfitover40 Yeah, during my review I remembered that the Record app was your go to and I can see why. I’m strongly considering the Apple Watch as my daily driver/wearable again.
Great review. I particularly appreciate the info regarding the third party apps you used. The series 3 is on the Christmas list so your review is a big help. Quick question: when you use a third party app, like the UA app, the data from the workout goes to both a UA app page and the Apple Activity app where the info is stored and can be reviewed over time? Keep up the great work!
+Joe Yes, The data will initially be stored on the UA cloud/app and within a few minutes the data will sync over to Apple Health and Apple activity apps as long as you have given the UA app those permissions.
Very nice review Eric!! Question for you, when you used under armour to track your exercise did you start it on your watch or phone??
+Kendra Orndorff I started on my watch. Every app that I included I started on my watch, and I would leave my phone turned off in the car just to make sure the app was truly independent of the phone.
Techy Agent sheesh if your walking at 62 beats or sitting what is your bpm when you are sleeping ?
Usually in the high 30s to low 40s when I’m sleeping
Techy Agent wow. that’s low 👍🏿
That gym is amazing 😂 what’s the name of it??
Very helpful! Now in 2020, I Would love to know what you think now that Apple Watch 3 has had several software updates. Are you using the native more or different apps?
If I’m looking for a Apple Watch now, would you recommended waiting for the new one? Looking for something that is accurate at total calories burned while lifting, running and swimming
If you can wait until late August or September, yes, we should get a new Apple Watch with substantial upgrades.
That gym you’re working out in looks bad ass !
It is! Dedicated Motivated in Middletown Ohio
Great video! Does this pair well with a Samsung phone?
I’m hoping you can help us out with a similar extensive review with the Apple Watch series 4.
Does it track your current live pace you’re running at ?
Nice review 💪🏼 I’m curious about your opinion now that we’re in 2022.
Thanks for the video, great to see all these activity apps and watch reviewed by someone that actually works out and not someone who just sits behind a desk
Is it better to walk faster or longer?
Great Review. Was going to upgrade to the Apple Watch. Learning now that the native fitness features Apple has are basic and you found third party apps also had limitations. Gonna get my Apple Watch series 3
Can it be pair with Garmin Watch?
What do you think about Watch OS 5? Is series 3 better now?
Hi can I know whats the device name on your arm ? thank you
Do i always need to activate which sport i‘m actually workin out? I walk alot, on my bike, or play ball... I hope the watch sees that automaically
Thanks for the review Eric...this is what I was looking for...gym based exercise. Great Job.
+safi ali khan Great! Glad it was what you were looking for!
do you feel that the watch is safe to use as far as durability...Your video showed you doing some vigorous activity
I’ve had every generation of the Apple Watch and consistently use it aggressively without ever having any issues or broken screens.
Hi Eric, I bought apple watch s. 3 and scosche rhythm+ but I noticed one big problem. I am able to connect scosche with apple watch. Stryd + Apple Watch + HRM is a great combo that gives all the running metrics you want.
That’s when I have not checked out, so I will have to check out Stryd. I like Strava and the Nike run app too.
Incredible review! Thank you for taking the time to make it!
Thanks!
I have read a lot comments about apple watch's GPS accuracy, people comment about that it is so difficult to follow consistent pace between intervals. Have you seen that kind of problem?
What apps is good to track your daily step .. just like the Fitbit
The built in apple health and fitness apps will track your steps
Witch one?
Hi Eric, what are your thoughts about the “total calories” that you can check on your iPhone at the end of the day. Is this accurate? Does it consider the after burn effect? I mean after you do weight lifting training you are still burning calories, how good is the Apple Watch on that?

I'd love to see you do a aw3/samsung gear sport comparison when you get around to getting the gear sport.
+Pepper544 i’m hoping to get the gear sport in later this week to begin my review. Eventually I would like to compare it to the AW too!
Techy Agent top stuff.
Do you know if calorie burnt are accurate in these watches ? I have a fitbit and a Garmin and they both say 4000 cals a day. Thats way more then i eat
+stroshow5 wow, I’ve never had that many calories counted on any device! Haha! You must be a very active person! I do think that the Apple Watch is accurate, and when I compared the calorie count against my Garmin watches, it’s usually within 100 cal of each other
Nice review. FYI - since updating to the latest AW firmware, strava does feedback to the HealthApp & now includes VO2 Max 👍
+Dmont Vape perfect! Good to know! Thanks
Well done!! I hope you can compare with other smartwatches likes fenix 5, suuntu spartan, etc. Look really interesting this series 3.
+Juan Calvano Yes, I have more comparison reviews in the works
im not a apple watch fan, I love apple products but I never felt the watch can fit what I want, but I will look for more of your reviews, and maybe Iwill give Series 3 a chance.
Epic review! Can you tell me if you can listen to podcasts via the watch? I listen to them when I run but don’t want to take my phone.
+Blaine D. Not from apples native app, but you can use the WatchPlayer app to download podcasts and store them on the watch for playback later.
awesome, thanks!!
Hi Eric. I’m impressed with the fitness features of this watch. Did you ever have any issues pairing the Scosche armband to the AW3? Does it pair as easily as it does to Garmin Watches?

I have a vivoactive hr you motivated me to try to get it,thanks spout for the motavation
+Axel Rios Awesome! I still have my Vivoactive HR and it’s going strong! My wife uses it as her daily wearable now.
Will series 3 replace the fenix 5 as your daily driver?
+Todd Wall Yes, I think it will. I’ll still use the Fenix for camping, skiing, and other outdoor activity. But 90% of the time the Apple Watch is going to be my new driver.

Fenix is also nice for golf but I can find alternatives there too.
I may make the switch this Christmas.
Keep up the great work with this channel!
Can i get the gps route if i leave my phone at home for a run?
Yes, absolutely, because it has built-in GPS that tracks all of that data.
Techy Agent but i dont get any gps route after sync it with my phone but i do get gps route if i carry my phone connected to watch..😞😞
Could u tell me more about how the Runkeeper app kept up as u used that too?
+Karan Batra It was good but I preferred Strava because of Strava’s simplicity. Here is the setup for Runkeeper: support.runkeeper.com/hc/en-us/articles/218197083-Setting-Up-Runkeeper-for-Apple-Watch?mobile_site=true

That swing in shoulder raises though...
I don’t have the greatest form. Don’t do what I do!
Can we upload iOS 6 on this when it comes out
Wich one do you recomend for me í have Android Samsung Galaxy S8+
Pleeeease is the HR sensor monitoring the HR continuously like Fitbit does ?????
+Pavel Subert only during a workout. During the day it takes readings at intervals, about every 5-10 minutes
Techy Agent thanks , would you say that it will make a big difference during the whole day ???
No.
5:26 Keep your elbows up mate!
Thanks!
Yeah, that is weird, I don’t think I’ve experienced that so far.
how many cal do u burn according to apple 3 in say a ten mn walk
what type of wireless earbuds do you own???
I have about 5 or 6 pairs of cheaper Bluetooth buds, most of them have been sent to me by companies hoping I’ll do a review. Mostly none of them are any good, so I need to do a review soon if I can find a pair I actually like.
You can customize what metrics are displayed on the watch face depending on the activity you are doing.
+Audie York Yes, and it can also depend on the app: some allow more customization than others

I could do that on my Fitbit Ionic
Major Arcade Player lol I sold my ionic, it’s shit
This is about the Apple Watch not the Fitbit
Major Arcade Player I
I wonder if the Polar app (polar beat) works with this watch
+Gloria Velez good question, I’ll have to give it a try.
great question!!
Techy Agent thanks, that’s my go-to app when I workout
I use polar flow, cause I have a polar m400, I wonder If will work with apple watch too
Very nice review as usual. Hope to see more of your videos on AW3 comparisons to Garmin. Thanks.
+Jeffrey Tsang 👍 I will get to work!
AW3 or Fenix 3 HR? Fenix cheaper currently 😳
Depends: If you want a great GPS outdoor watch, go with the Fenix. If you want an all-around great fitness tracker and smart watch, go with the AW.
“Applications”
thank you!!! was waiting for this!
unrelated question, have you tested the polar OH1?
+Francisca Sapag not yet! But I’m hoping to get it in later this week or early next week to compare it against the Scosche
awesome! haven't seen many reviews of it and yours are always great! thank you :-)
Check out the Nike run app for detailed metrics for runs, it’s very nice
+Jason Ackerman cool, That’s what I did not check out, I will check it out tomorrow!
Techy Agent
It also has a great UI on the phone where additional history, achievements, levels, best 1k, mile, 5k, etc. are kept. It works seamlessly with the Apple metrics like VO2 max and are even displayed together in most cases. I was very impressed at the integration. I got the Nike watch cellular.
+Jason Ackerman perfect, thanks for sharing!
Techy Agent
You try out the Nike run club app yet?
YOUR GYM IS AMAZING
Dedicated Motivated is the name of my gym, located in Middletown Ohio
hi eric! what earphones are u using during this review
To be honest I can’t remember, I have about 10 different pairs of Bluetooth headphones, mostly cheaper $20 pairs I’ve gotten off of Amazon.
according to you which is the best one for the workouts.thanks!
+Shrey Aggarwal Are you talking about apps or fitness trackers?
wireless earphones
Nice review man. Exactly what I was looking for being into running and weight lifting myself.
Hi Eric! So which app do you use for crossfit? And which heart rate bands ? Also! Thanks for the video, you make me buy it jajaaj
I've been using the Under Armor RECORD app for gym based exercise like crossfit and HIIT.
Techy Agent and heart rate band? Any Polar for example?
I use Polar H7 and it works as expected. The only downside for crossfit is when you have a bar movement near your chest: it kind of gets in the way...
"runtastic" from Austria is the best! try it trust me rly accurate
Georg Weichenberger program?!
www.runtastic.com
Georg Weichenberger Is it accurate measurement
what is your daily watch for gym?
+정병화 I use three: the Garmin Fenix 5X for jogging and cycling, the Apple Watch 3 for gym exercise, the Vivoactive for golf and swimming
Very interesting. Just got the Fitbit ionic and wasn't sure if I should've gotten the Samsung sport watch. Your thoughts? Thanks
+Jesus Melendez I have not had a chance to review the Samsung Sport yet, but the Fitbit Ionic is a great watch, and Fitbit has a better track record with sports and fitness wearables compared to Samsung
Very comprehensive review. Thanks
+Moran Monovich 👍
Very nice review. Thanks

Techy Agent please do and tell us what you think. Since I just got the watch and the app I’m also interest how it displays my progress regarding weights. So far I’m really happy with it and I went from MS Band 2, Atlas Wristband 2 to the Actofit.
which one has better responsive heart rate between apple watch3 and vivoactive?
+정병화 They are about the same
Great video. I have one question, do you feel the strap is secure enough while practising martial arts? Specially when punching. Keep it up!
+Mario C Yes, however it would be uncomfortable to wear this underneath any gloves
My watch can’t seem to record my pulse when I walk. I have to be holding my arms perfectly still.
Thanks for this very useful video :)
Cadence is added in the new watch OS 5!
Yes, they added several new features to the health app, very happy about that!
When ever I’m too lazy to search for my phone lost in the couch I ping it with my Apple Watch.
+David Howenson 👍
Same and most of the time it’s right in front of:)
amazing review... provided some great insight not covered in the typical review.
+Jason lee thanks Jason!
Great review
+Lionel Payette thanks!!!
Thanks! :)
What kind of gym is that (or call) ?
+Thi Henry It’s a hybrid: mma, CrossFit, bootcamp, and many other classes are done there. It’s Dedicated Motivated in Middletown Ohio.
i'm not from there but is a place like that expensive?
Thanks Eric! Great review.

Great review!
+Patrick van Eenennaam thanks!
Perfect video. Keep like that!
Nice ink Eric.
+Jose Gonzalez thanks!
Are you single? If you are let’s go an date.

Great review thank you.
+Sam Nasrawi thanks Sam!
