    Want to see the fish that I sent in return? You can kind of see how I set up my shipping box - here is her video of unboxing MY fish! ruclips.net/video/3E2YmyYHr6s/видео.html
    These mahachaiensis are so beautiful - what do you think of them?

    • @graphite2786
      @graphite2786 5 лет назад

      Love them! Also smardiga, coccina, imbellis and I've just got a trio of wild type splendens ( here in Australia, we have a feral population near the Alligator river! Occasionally they come up for sale, rather cheaply I might add. )
      Even though the entire genus is an allowable import, wild betta species are hard to find here and are incredibly expensive ,😢.

      GORGEOUS fish! One day I'd love to have some wild types, I'll probably start with a couple of females in the sorority I'm planning, set to star in the fish room we are in the beginning stages of set-up for. Thanks for sharing so many details about them. Do they get along together than the fighting-bred bettas? How many more months before you'll need to jar them individually?

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  5 лет назад +1

      @graphite all the more reason to get some wilds and distribute their offspring all around the country!

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  5 лет назад +2

      @Anne Thornton They do get along well! Pairs or trios can be kept together because they aren't as aggressive as domestic bettas, which have been bred for fighting essentially. I'll jar them probable at 5 months or so, or when I see males bickering

    my favourite betta species by far. I found someone selling these for $3 each! He couldn't get rid of them and offered three for that price! I said no since i didn't have enough tanks, but I do regret it just a bit, since they're about 15-20x more expensive at stores in my area. Absolutely love everything about them

    Your Betta Juveniles look great. Best of luck with them. I'm raising some Betta Splendens fry I purchased at a club meeting and they're doing fine. There are six in all, and one is doubletail and at least 2 look to be halfmoon. I'm raising them on frozen dephnia and bottled instant baby brine shrimp (by Ocean Nutrition). I also used some golden pearls (500-800 microns). You are such a credit to the hobby, Taylor. Keep sharing these great videos with us.

    I like the males in the wild species. The 1 you were showing was beautiful! They don't have the majestic fins of the crown tails or others but their fins are stiff and straight from body to fin tip and that has a unique beauty to it. I love my crown tails but I've wanted to find some wild species to raise for a long time.

    I have a betta mahachaiensis male I just got a few weeks ago and he definitely seems much more active and energetic than any other betta I've ever owned. I am just getting started with fishkeeping again and thought I'd try a betta in a 5.5 gallon with some shrimp and snails and was attracted by the beautiful iridescence of the mahachai betta. He is definitely the most active betta I've ever kept and also the most predatory. I barely see my amano shrimp anymore because they know better than to come out during the day and I'm really wishing I went for the 10 gallon now. Are wild bettas in general much more active than domestics?

    You seem to know what your doing with shipping betas lol. So my question is would it be safe for me to get a beta in the mail now? I live in the upper part of New England and it’s getting rather cold and idk if a heat pack would be enough. Would you recommend I wait till summer? I’m working on setting up more beta tanks to add to my little clan. I love rescuing sick ones but I also really want a few from reputable breeders.

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  5 лет назад +1

      Hi! Well, I consider shipping to to be dangerous once it gets around 40° nighttime temps and below. It’s less risky if you have it delivered to the post office or FedEx or UPS office to have it picked up, rather than going on delivery trucks for home delivery freezing for eight hours. It’s also less risky if you use the fast for form of shipping when your typical priority or flat rate

    • @believeinshadows139
      @believeinshadows139 5 лет назад

      Simply Betta oh shipping it to an office is definitely a good idea. Cuz at this time of year and easily can get down to freezing temperatures were I live. @@SimplyBetta I think I'm prob battling most with feeding, they dont seem to do as well as domestic fry do on the same foods , I unfortunately only have walter worms and then bbs eggs for hatching when they a bit bigger , tried making some infusoria but wasnt very successful using boiled potatoes and tank water , I think the potatoes go off to quickly maybe , so basically my biggest problem seems to be feeding them for about the first 2 weeks

      @@colinfowkes7590 A smaller food like vinegar eels would be so beneficial for you to have then! Vinegar eels and infusoria are pretty much the best main foods for the first 3 days to a week. For infusoria, maybe try the lettuce leaf option? If you give a quick search for Aquarimax infusoria, I like his video about how to culture them. I sell vinegar eel starter cultures on my website, too, and I recommend them

      @@SimplyBetta thank you for taking the time to reply , I would buy from you but I am a ocean away so it's just a wee bit difficult , it's pretty hard here to find live foods to culture but I have heard that there might be someone around with vinegar eels so I'll see what I can find out , I'll deff have a look at that infusoria video, I was also thinking of lettuce so I'll give that a go and do a little experimenting before I spawn my mahachai again , again thanks very much.

      @@colinfowkes7590 Good luck! Facebook fish groups local-ish to you (Australia?) should be a great resource too. I'm sure they can hook you up!

    0:45 it is always good to have new blood, they aren’t super inbred and line bred like bettas. There are no consequences with frequent outcrossing when the fish themselves come from a diverse genetic background.
    The same can not be said for inbred lines.
    It is better for wild species to be outcrossed often so they maintain genetic vigor and long term health of the fish and the future populations. There is no reason to bottleneck the population and produce inbred fish when you can avoid it.
    They are beautiful and perfect as they are, their natural beauty for a wild fish is AMAZING. I hope they do not end up like domestic bettas, let’s just breed and enjoy them for their natural beauty.
