Love them! Also smardiga, coccina, imbellis and I've just got a trio of wild type splendens ( here in Australia, we have a feral population near the Alligator river! Occasionally they come up for sale, rather cheaply I might add. ) Even though the entire genus is an allowable import, wild betta species are hard to find here and are incredibly expensive ,😢.
GORGEOUS fish! One day I'd love to have some wild types, I'll probably start with a couple of females in the sorority I'm planning, set to star in the fish room we are in the beginning stages of set-up for. Thanks for sharing so many details about them. Do they get along together than the fighting-bred bettas? How many more months before you'll need to jar them individually?
@Anne Thornton They do get along well! Pairs or trios can be kept together because they aren't as aggressive as domestic bettas, which have been bred for fighting essentially. I'll jar them probable at 5 months or so, or when I see males bickering
@@SimplyBetta You made me laugh so loud when you said that in the video, you sounded JUST like my nine-year-old son (and fellow fish fan, with more than me!) !

my favourite betta species by far. I found someone selling these for $3 each! He couldn't get rid of them and offered three for that price! I said no since i didn't have enough tanks, but I do regret it just a bit, since they're about 15-20x more expensive at stores in my area. Absolutely love everything about them

Your Betta Juveniles look great. Best of luck with them. I'm raising some Betta Splendens fry I purchased at a club meeting and they're doing fine. There are six in all, and one is doubletail and at least 2 look to be halfmoon. I'm raising them on frozen dephnia and bottled instant baby brine shrimp (by Ocean Nutrition). I also used some golden pearls (500-800 microns). You are such a credit to the hobby, Taylor. Keep sharing these great videos with us.
I like the males in the wild species. The 1 you were showing was beautiful! They don't have the majestic fins of the crown tails or others but their fins are stiff and straight from body to fin tip and that has a unique beauty to it. I love my crown tails but I've wanted to find some wild species to raise for a long time.
I'd say it's not an overstatement to say that they are *exceptionally* pretty! Labyrinth fish in generally are very interesting fish and their courtship is beautiful. As a man, I also find it endearing that the males are so good parents. =)
Betta mahachai one of my fav wild betta in Splendens group, for now own 3pair of it, 2 of them green mahacai n 1 copper mahachai....now just waiting them to grow up little bit before breed them🥰.
I ordered 3 females for my males last October and...they all ended up being males as well. No luck on the breeding but they're great. Tried my luck with Stiktos instead and that has been quite fruitful.
I have a betta mahachaiensis male I just got a few weeks ago and he definitely seems much more active and energetic than any other betta I've ever owned. I am just getting started with fishkeeping again and thought I'd try a betta in a 5.5 gallon with some shrimp and snails and was attracted by the beautiful iridescence of the mahachai betta. He is definitely the most active betta I've ever kept and also the most predatory. I barely see my amano shrimp anymore because they know better than to come out during the day and I'm really wishing I went for the 10 gallon now. Are wild bettas in general much more active than domestics?

recently acquired a male alien betta which the store marketed as Splendens. i regret not bringing home the female as well. do you feel that a planted 10G is suitable to keep both a male and a female long term?
(During breeding) Does the male mahachai carry all the color to the fry or can the female’s genes contribute just as much? The females are brown but their genetics should still play a part in the spawn’s color right?
Hi simplybetta! I've always wanted to own this type of betta what would you recommend tank size and decor/plants and food. Would they be ok with fake plants in a 10 gallon or no?
