Finn's story actually closed in Together Again. Fionna and Cake is way before that. The current adult Finn's not happy with his life, he's in fact coping with Jake's death, by going on adventures to distract himself from his grief. Finn spells it out in Distant Lands that he pretty much went on adventures to pass the time so that he could be reunited with his bro in the afterlife.
In fairness, Finn was always a freelance hero and explorer. So it's just kind of natural for him to keep that up. I think it's a little easy to overstate his grief. He lost Jake and never entirely got over the loss, but he moved on and was clearly capable of chilling out and maintaining his other friendships. Anybody remember that episode where goes dungeon-crawling to share his interests with FP? And the other one where he was basically loot-grinding as an addiction? Dude loves his adventures. Kind of makes sense why he thinks that would help Simon. It's not all just a coping mechanism. It's what he would've done with or without Jake.
Yes, he said that, but there are other strange things. There is a difference in the shape of Finn in terms of hair, hand and beard and for some reason it is not clear whether it was really after Jake death or not, especially since he said: (Jake loves it) when he said it to Simon in the second episode ... But I say here that the intro itself shows something about the crash of dimensions until the events of the last episode of adventure time after the destruction of Ooo. For your knowledge the theory of dimensions is consecutive events when, for example, where does he wake up from sleep on the alarm clock of the live Bmo >> Fiona also gets up from sleep, but turns off the Bmo-like alarm clock, I don't know how ypu thought the events happened before the time of adventure, any episode together again, and the correct thing is The events that are happening are not before Finn and not after him, but at the same time and were shown on Prismo TV that even Finn and Jake before they grew up are still fighting a monster that is another world. In other words, they really died, Finn and Jake, but the current events are as if time is being destroyed and the sequence of events in which they are supposed to die, because of the introduction (Gulb's beheading), Betty and another world, not even written by Presmo.
It's really sad that he never moves on and as a result he maintained a destructive approach to life till the day he died. Did Finn not care about anyone else closely in his life that Jake was his only light?
You didn't really mention that Finn is still running from his problems. All the adventuring and fighting is just to keep his mind off the bad thoughts, those most likely being the absence of Jake in his life. It's an unhealthy coping strategy that he tried to push onto Simon as well.

Finn the human has officially been finished.
I love how we live in a time where Finn is allowed to say bust your balls and it's not AI😂Regular Show always got away with stuff like that even when it wasn't on the DVD Cuts which allowed more risky content
Even if I had two set of hands, I still will not be able to count on my fingers how many time I’ve watch adventure time!
I still want a follow up series about Finn and bronwyn from obsidian.
Its so nice to see Simon free after all this time
