The Mini Monstera aka Rhaphidophora tetrasperma has been one of my absolute favorite plants to watch grow. They have been exploding in size, climbing all over the place. So to keep its growth in check I've been doing some propagating so I wanted to share with you how to take cuttings of your Mini Monsteras so you can successfully grow new plants! #monstera #houseplants #plantvibrations #minimonstera #indoorgarden
This is my favorite plant of all time, they’re so cute and they grow so fast!!!
They are adorable!
I like the way you described and way of talk,, the Planters behind you are also a beautiful collection.. good luck
Thank you so much 😊
Thanks so much for not rambling on about nonsense and just getting to the point! Great vid! I now have more confidence in making that 1st cut into Ginny.
Yesss the sooner you make the cut the better
Thanks for the video! The raphidophora tetrasperma I bought last year is so tall and ready for propagation. Thanks for all the tips!
Awesome! They’re a little slow to take once planted back in soil but definitely worth it
Perfect! Now I feel confident to cut my monstera, thank you. 🌿
sweeeeet! theres no better time to do so than right now!
I tried cutting my mini monstera but it rotted 😢
This was exactly what I needed to care for a clipping I got from a friend. Lovely video. Thank you!
Happy to hear that!!
I ordered my first mini so I’m excited. I have loved monsteras forever but I want to start with a mini.
this one is soooo easy to grow!
@@plantvibrations So my monstera is doing so well and so beautiful. I took a cutting and I was patient and it started rooting! Yay! It even started growing another leaf while in water. My question is the roots are growing out of the water. Is that normal? Should I place it in a pot now?
Omg the cutting looks so cute in that pot 😍 just like an emoji 🪴
:-))
I put 2 cuttings in water 4 days ago. They each have an aerial root which got completely damaged in transit so I’m really hoping this works out! Would love some tips if you have any. Thank you ☺️
Cantik monsteranya
👍
Amazing thank you! Xxxx
Thanks for watching!!
Awee it is cute!!! I want one, but I am scared to purchase tropical plants now, September in Michigan, as our cold seasons aren’t the ideal temp for them.
As long as your house stays above 65 they’ll keep growing through winter!
Beautiful RT with big leaves ❤️, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Your plants are so beautiful! Do you let the cutting callus over before putting in water? Mine keeps rotting 😭
I do not let them callous over. Maybe purchase a heat pad, that do wonders
Your plant is stunning! How did you get such big leaves?
the way to get bigger leaves is for them to climb!
@@plantvibrations thanks! But how does it work? Mine is attached all the way up. Maybe I’m doing something wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mine is in water. It's putting out leaves but has no roots. It was a beat up one from Lowes clearance. It was wet and leaning over because they tried to get it to climb a moss pole. It's been almost 2 months.
theyre quite slow to develop roots in water, just be patient
Great tips. I have one that I rescued from lowes. I hope it will get like yours. ❤❤
Just be patient!
How do you know when it’s ready to be repotted? Do you have a video on how you repot the mini monstera?
The best way to tell is to lift it out of the pot and if it easily comes out with a single solid root ball then it’s time to repot. If it isn’t filling the pot or leaves a lot of soil in the container when you pull out the roots, then it’s not ready
I would live a cutting of this plant.
It’s such a great plant!
Question! What will happen the place where you trimmed on the original plant? Will it eventually grow out again? I have a mini monstera but it only has one stem and I'm scared to propagate it from the top because I don't want to kill it!
hi crissy! yes they will absolutely start to regrow from where you cut. it may take up to 6 weeks but they do indeed start growing again
So when I cut to propagate, does the cut stem in the original plant grow anything after or is it done for? I have just a single stem and have cup to propagate, but wish the original one was still growing 😢
It will regrow from where you cut!
How many days before you change the water in water propagation? And where do you place it?
I really don’t ever change the water but will top it off with more water maybe once every two weeks. Anywhere that is warm is a good place to put it. They don’t need bright light while forming roots
Hello! What happens to the mother plant after making a cutting? Does it continue grow up?
It will take a couple months to start growing again but it certainly resumes its growth up!
Can you link the video for your soil mix? I need a new one and I thought mine was well draining but I don’t think it’s doing my plants justice right now I water once a week and I think that’s even to often 😢
Absolutely. Here you go Grow Your Houseplants Better with my EASY 5 Ingredient Soil Mix

Did you chnage the water with the cutting in it or jsut leave it or what
You can change every couple weeks if you want
I got a cutting from a friend a 4+ weeks ago (no roots) of 1 leaf and I put it in soil and it doesn’t seem to be growing it looks to be doing ok no change of color or texture of leaf just not much else. Everyone says they grow super fast but this guy nothing any tips to see growth sooner?
I’d take it out of the soil and put it in water! They take awhile to root and even longer to acclimate to the soil. But once they do they take off
I’ve tried propagating my Raphi but no progress for weeks now. 2 in water 2 in sphagnum and 1 top cutting. roots aren’t growing on the single leaf nodes in either prop method. The top cutting is the only one with progress. I’ve noticed the top cutting areal root was nice and green and this is the only one growing. The other’s have callused roots. Should i scrape the callus off the root to expose the root underneath and then try again?
hi. maybe you can send me some pictures via instagram, im having a hard time visualizing what you mean exactly.
Sometimes raphidophora need really long time to start rooting. If you want a bit faster I would recommend put cutting of epipremnum. It will give growing hormones to the water or also you can use supertrive which helping with roots development too
Mine keeps growing tiny leaves. I'm not sure if its not getting enough water or light
Is it climbing up anything? They need to climb to make bigger leaves
Help! My mini monstera suffered a fall and I had to cut the end of the vine. Now it is just an open end of the end of the plant. I have been trying to find answers online and nothing has helped.
Hi! Cut it into 8” section, and place the lower four inches of each section in water and propagate them. That’s the best thing to do
I have done it and it rots if I put it immediately in water, any tips for that?
Try to put it in a warmer, brighter location to encourage faster root formation
How long did it take before repot? 2-3weeks? Wow that's fast!
they rooted quite fast in the water, like 3 weeks. but once you transplant, theyre sooooo slow to start growing again. i waited about 4 months for any new growth
@@plantvibrations have you tried air layering? :) thank you for your response!
Mine has a really thick stem with smaller leaves. Any way to get larger leaves?
Is it climbing up anything?
@@plantvibrations just propped up against a wall. The pot is small. I wasn’t sure if it needed repotted. Seems to be doing well otherwise
I just received a cutting of this mini. How much sunlight do you recommend for this plant to propagate?
While they root in water they don’t need much light at all! If you’re going straight to soil, morning light would be good, no direct south facing window tho!
I know this video is old, but I recently transplated cuttings of this plant into soil and shortly after doing so, the leaves turned yellow, and now I have two bare stalks😢. Will new leaves emerge?
how robust were the roots of the cuttings? they should be pretty hefty and then transplanted to a small container. leaves turning yellow sounds like they were either not able to bring water to the foliage due to lack of roots and/or overly moist soil cause them to suffocate due to lack of oxygen in soil
There are a lot of roots. Maybe transplant shock? I'll wait and hope for the best 😊 Thanks@plantvibrations
I have a raphi that's growing a strong thick stalk but hasn't pushed out any new leaves for a while (leaves on the bottom, and then a straight stalk growing). I haven't lost any leaves, everything looks healthy. Is this normal? How do I encourage leaf growth?
Is it getting good light?
Lighting is alright. It's sitting in a west facing window so summertime it's good, wintertime not as much (I live in Canada so the days are much shorter in the winter). Do you think I should move it to another location?
Mine is in East facing window and it's doing great in Canadian winter. I do have a small humidifier going at night and I also group my plants together. Hopefully it helps
you have pretty skin
haha thank you
😭😭 I bought 3 off someone who propagated them in water, they have huge roots so I’ve planted them in a pot with orchid, perlite & cacti soil.. 😭😭 PLEASE HELP I’m freaking out, a few leaves have some yellowing going on I’m not sure what’s wrong
Is the soil suuuuper fast draining? It may be too porous. Do they have something to climb up? You can send a photo via Instagram
Thank you so much for replying! I just messaged you on there!
