    Redgrave's t-shirt.
Booger-covered garment worn by Lore Hunter Redgrave.
Long ago the eldritch truth was unbeknownst to many hunters
who walked through the lands of Yharnam and subsecuently
failed to realize the events which they treaded upon.
Hunter redgrave revealed said discoveries and helped those
    unable to understand them.

My thoughts on the whole 'placement' thing with Yharnam, Cainhurst and Byrgenwerth is that, form a historical point of view, royalty and science never existed in a vacuum. It may be that Cainhurst was the house of the ruling class of the whole region and the Old Yharnam, Hemwick, etc, belonged to them. That would explain why there are Cainhurst emblems on the walls in Yharnam. That would also explain the existence of Byrgenwerth (that, honestly grated at me from the first moment, because Colleges don't just 'exist') - historically, Colleges and Universities were founded by the nobility, because they were expensive things to support and prestigious things to own - and, as every item connected to Cainhurst tells us, the nobles were all about prestige and pump.
In that case, it may be possible that Byrgenwerth started digging up the tombs of Pthumerians on the behest of the then royalty, of whom some might have been aware of what may be found there - Annalise seems set on birthing the child of gods, for example. It would also put Lawrence's leaving Byrgenwerth in a different light - one doesn't build a massive organisation alone or with a handful of students/acquaintances. Back then Blood Ministration wasn't yet a thing, it became widely known only after the Ashen Blood plague in the Old Yharnam. So, who founded Lawrence's new digs until then in a region that seemed rather poor?
How about the royals? Let's say that Lawrence went to the Queen with his 'miracle' that master Willem didn't want to share, and, like the alchemists of old, tried to get under her financial and social protection. That would seem to Willem like a betrayal, alright - his praised student 'sold hismelf'. And Annalise gave it to him, for a time. Then, as the Church grew in influence and wealth, the Queen might have - quite rightfully so, - start to fear that at some point Lawrence will upseat her. Thus, she got one of his students to join her camp with the secret of ministration - rendering Lawrence's only advantage over her null.
And that seems like a valid reason for Lawrence to start a witch-hunt on the Vilebloods and attempt to eradicate them completely. Because by this point his Church was raising to be the main power in the region - Cathedral Ward is a thing of beauty and took A LOT of dosh to complete - and the only thing that gave him that position was the Blood. It was a battle for political influence, when we look at it from this point of view.
When looked at from the right angle, the whole story of Bloodborne seems to be a tale of the Church raising to power - and the consequences it had for everyone around. Like they came to the market with a miracle vaccine, but after a few years it turns out that they've been curing the flu with rabies and from that point on their every move is set on covering it up (hiring Hunters, burning of Old Yharnam), trying to fix it (human experiments, calling on the Great Ones, Kos) and in the end trying to outrun it (Ascension). And when the Gods started to pay attention, it all went to hell in a hand-basket.

  • @iWillWakeYouUp

One interesting point about the burning Cleric Beast aka Laurence, the first Vicar and Brador is that Brador's "helmet" (the one he specifically wears, not the one you can wear as a player) has the left antler, but the right one is short, damaged, maybe even broke off during the skinning/scalping process.
Now look at the burning Cleric Beast aka Laurence. It does NOT have the left antler, but it does have a big right antler.
Also, considering that Brador probably skinned/scalped only the head of the Cleric Beast he killed, isn't it interesting how burning Cleric Beast Laurence touches his head during boss fight intro cutscene, as if he had a headache or was like "the fuck is my left antler at? ouch, my head! That fucker skinned my head! (in reallife, thus it hurts here in the fucking nightmare)"

      @CNNBlackmailSupport 2 года назад +6

5 years later, but I have to agree with you 100% on the idea that Brador and Laurence are connected like you describe.
I'll add one thing, and that is the most likely cause of the missing horn is battle, rather than a skinning/scalping error. I worked at a local deer processing business for a few months of hunting season. After talking with (real life)hunters and the owner, I learned a great deal about the story wounds tell. (I'm basically Dexter, but for deer)
The wound on (beastly) Laurence's skull tells a story. The large, but mostly straight, cut indicates a single strike with a large weapon, rather than many blows from a small weapon. The ragged edges on the lower side indicate ripping rather than cutting. The antler stump and massive split indicate his head position realative to the weapon during the blow.
The Bloodletter has an axelike blade that fits the skull's wound. The little spikes below the blade would rip and tear on their way in and out, causing ragged edges. The large cut is further from the player than the ripped bits, just like the bloodletter's axe blade is further away than the spikes. Laurence was likely charging horizontally with his head down, which puts the severed antler in line with an overhead smash from bloodletter.

I know that this has literally been years, and it seems that this channel is completely inactive (probably since you've covered such a wide array of bloodborne content that there isn't anymore to talk about) but I just wanted to note that a big thing that contributes to your theory is the Drecine games bloodborne eastereggs and references basically completely proves your theory.
The seafaring sage is the baby eldritch great one that's grown up at the end of the game, and what is it called? THE SEAFARING SAGE! And it looks something akin to a mollusk and a lobster combination. If we're the Lost hamlet Lone survivor it makes perfect sense that we'd turn into something that's aquatic in nature, and what I personally think helps this out a lot is that the reason why Kos dies in the first place and everything is set in motion is Kos not finding her way, and dying form landing on the shore, (losing her way). And we're called the Seafaring Sage, basically an creature that helps others across dangerous waters, and the Sage part basically means we're highly intelligent.
I think this greatly helps your theory, basically turns your theory into full-blown fact.

    - I think you’re overlooking a lot of evidence in the Fishing Hamlet. I’m going to write up a proper presentation of this idea and post it on Reddit for discussion later, but in the meantime, here are some other thoughts on this video, which was great as always:
    - Your interpretation of Brador seems a bit sketchy to call a “fact.” He attacks you when you enter the last area of the Fishing Hamlet regardless of whether you get the key or not. If you don’t have the key, he’s better off leaving you alone-otherwise, invading is the only way the player has a chance to even see his clothes.
It also seems directly contradicted by Simon’s dialogue. He makes it quite clear that the secret he’s interested in IS the fishing hamlet and the events that transpired there, and particularly that those events have cursed hunters ever since. That all seems to line up with the rest of the Kos story too well to really warrant an alternative explanation.
That said, I’ve been confused about why the Church would set Brador to guard that secret in the nightmare, because it seems to be Byrgenwerth’s sin, and a consequence that affects only hunters. Neither of those things seems obviously crucial to the Church as we know it. I’d sort of thought that that the events in FH were a near-term cause of the beast scourge, but everyone shot that down cuz we know the scourge dates back to Loran. Your idea might explain that problem better, but I don't think the evidence supports it, personally.
    - I like the idea that the player might be from the Fishing Hamlet, and you missed a strong clue that fits in really interestingly with it. In the Childhood’s Beginning ending, the player becomes one of the same type of phantasm we see in the Fishing Hamlet. I don’t think this is a coincidence-we see several types of Great One babies in the game: we could have turned into one of the little Ebrietas babies and it would have made just as much sense. So turning into the Fishing Hamlet phantasm via the third umbilical cords all seem to link the PC back to the Fishing Hamlet directly. We know in other contexts that your life history can affect the sort of transformations you succumb to, so this again seems like a particular clue about where we came from.
(Incidentally, the Lone Survivor title seems to contradict the idea that both the player and Brador were from the Hamlet? If only one person made it out alive?)
    - I’d never thought much about the player’s amnesia, but I sort of subconsciously chalked it up to the blood ministration process. But now that I think about it, it might be quite a bit more interesting. Everybody in Yharnam receives blood ministration, but we have no indication that anyone loses their memories other than you. . . except Laurence. His skull tells us that he’s seeking his lost memories.
What if losing memories has something to do with coming from the Fishing Hamlet? This is an absurd leap, but it got me somewhere interesting. Perhaps the thing Laurence “failed to protect” was the Fishing Hamlet (the skull is a symbol of it, and the accursed brew is a symbol of the FH massacre)? Maybe he was from the FH, or maybe he just went there with Gehrman and Maria and decided to protect them.

"(Incidentally, the Lone Survivor title seems to contradict the idea that both the player and Brador were from the Hamlet? If only one person made it out alive?)
      "
(Not sure about this as I'm not really a lore hunter can't really remember lots of stuff) Wasn't Brador already out of the Fishing Hamlet and a hunter himself when the Massacre of Hamlet occurred? He wouldn't be counted as a survivor

  • @skippyyskip795
    @skippyyskip795 8 лет назад +47

I think the simple solution is that Brador finds it odd we are a hunter that isn't blooddrunk in the nightmare.
Also the fact we are both wearing foreign garbs means he could be from anywhere else in the world apart from Yarhnam, that hardly links us together let alone the same hamlet.
But yeah when he talks about our wrongs your theory fits nicely and I cannot think of anything else that fits better.
    Excellent video.

    • @12isaletter
      @12isaletter 8 лет назад +17

+skippyy skip honestly, I viewed the "right your wrongs" line just to be another jab at the hypocritical conduct of hunters, the same way that Eileen (if you don't complete her quest), Djura, and even Maria chastise the player for the things they've done.
I think the theory might be a little far-fetched, but it definitely is really interesting and does tie up some loose ends nicely.

I don't really agree with the Hunters not killing Kos.
It may be worth to consider that Byrgenwerth went to the Hamlet not for Kos - the villagers might have been their main target - like in Innsmouth, they were already changed, they were in contact with a Great One. Scholars dug into their sculls and basically razed the place to the ground in search of answers - or a rescue from the Scourge, because Kos' infection was different, gentler, the villagers weren't beasts so maybe she was the answer? And it wasn't Byrgenwerth alone, mind. Because Maria and Gherman were Workshop Hunters at the ends of their careers - and the Workshop was established by the Church, so the Church had to exist by this point for at least a while. If the Hunters went to the village, the Church had to know/be there too. They're the ones specifically cursed by Kos to the Nightmare, not the scholars of Byrgenwerth. And it's the Church that treats the village as their 'dirty secret', again, not Byrgenewerth. There are wrecked ships in the distance, that may signify some sort of a sea battle that happened - maybe they tried to catch Kos alive, maybe just wanted to communicate with her, and killed her accidentally, but there is no specific evidence that they didn't. How was she to curse them, when she was already dead for a long while and they had no hand in it?
I was trying to put together a rough timeline of the events in BB and Kos being a start of the research doesn't fit - unless it was a sort of a pivot point for both Byrgenwerth and the Church. Maybe a place where they were confronted with a living, real Great One and the rules changed for them. From there the Workshop Hunters, disillusioned and weary, were disbanded, the Choir started to work towards Ascension, Yharnam became nothing more than research material, Micolash started his experiment in Yahar'Ghul (obsessed with Kos, but seemingly unaware of Ebrietas?), and Master Willem realised what's going to come and started working towards stopping it? From the narrative pov, it kinda makes sense. It may be the place where Lawrence left the Church - he came there to search for a cure for is ailment, but instead witnessed only slaughter and that pushed him over the edge and into becoming a Beast. Prompting Brador to kill him - and the Church to cover up the nasty secret of their Blood being poison.
Also, people begin a*holes in Yharnam I was always putting on the carb of them living in constant terror. They were constantly killed by beasts, disappearing into the depths of the Research Hall, were dragged away to Yahar'Ghul, and no one was allowed to challenge the Church that pulled new monsters from the catacombs on every Tuesday to patrol the streets;] The Church closed the city off and treated the citizens as just 'material' - the output of bodies had to be massive to support all these 'endeavours'. And now, the 'unaffiliated' Hunters seem like the only people willing to challenge the Church (even in matters so small as burying their dead) - so of course that the citizens want nothing to do with them, they're already fighting for their lives as it is.
I am not challenging Redgrave's theories, not really, just trying to add another point of view.

There's a reason why the lore and story is so vague and lofty as it is. It's because the *purpose* of the lore and story is to function more like a poetic expression than an actual "riddle" to be solved.
And what inspires Miyazaki in his storytelling is the feeling of being left without answers, having only fragments to a story. So I think it's safe to say that *he doesn't know either*. He creates these stories the way he does to be just as lost in them as we are.

This video made me realise something. So the tarot card of the hanged man depicts someone being hung upside down in order for their blood to fall down into their head, subsequently killing them. This reminds me of the insight and frenzy mechanic. If we think of the blood that falls down into the head (more importantly the brain) as blood that contains the scourge it could potentially be a metaphor for the understanding of the effects of the blood. The blood falling into the brain gives the knowledge of the true nature of the blood and induces frenzy (or just plain insanity we don't have to use the mechanic specific terms), prolonged and constant exposure to this knowledge would eventually kill. It's kind of a long stretch (to be honest that is what a lot of my theories actually are) but that's my knee jerk reaction to the mention of the crucifixion.

Maybe expanding on the last point you brought up about it being our fault, could Brador be eluding towards this in the line where he recognizes you "well, well, look who's here... After all you've done, kill me, as if to right your wrongs?". Perhaps after our village discovered Kos the word got out. Cainhurst sent us an invitation to find out about the Great One (maybe not even to the player character directly but seen as we were the last survivor it would make sense for us to have the invitation) and then soon after the Hunters attacked.
Maybe we were part of the head family in the village (Brador would definately know of us and blame us for what happened to the village) which would explain why we got the letter from Cainhurst. The cloths we start the game in doesnt seem like something the fisherman would wear but someone more inland. This might also explain why Brador says " Or perhaps, beg for my forgiveness? Well, leave off. what's done is done." meaning he feels like we should feel guilty about something that has happened involving him.

Videos about the Astral Clocktower, Simon, and especially the Dreamlands would be awesome. The Dreamlands are such a fascinating topic. The way they're appearantly stacked on top of each other, creating an "Inception"-like level-structure. What puzzles me is how the Hunters' Dream fits into that structure. Is it at the very bottom, holding the rest of the Dreamlands up with the Archtree-like towers in the distance? The Tombstones in the Dream say "Awaken above ground" I believe.

Going to comment on a really small section of the video; I love the idea that the "compatriot" Brador killed is Laurence. I'm totally 100% into that idea. I'm not sold on the idea that Laurence is the Bloodletting Beast. It seemed pretty conclusive that by calling the secret boss in the DLC "Laurence, the First Vicar" that this was Laurence's beast form. It's a picky detail, but I think the shape of Laurence's skull in the Grand Cathedral where you fight Vicar Amelia is clearly shaped like that of the typical Cleric Beast, not the Bloodletting Beast. I think that it stands to reason more that the Bloodletting Beast might be the first Pthumerian victim of the Scourge. Plus, I don't see how Laurence could exist in two different forms in the Chalice Dungeons and the Hunter's Nightmare.

    • @strikingfreedom

valtr the league leader exists in to different forms before he dies he is a nutter fanatic - after he dies and is summoned in the hunter dream his name change and appears younger than when he was alive.
Queen yharnam appears is 2 different forms at the same time.
technically Laurence appears as 3 his skull is the real world - his human skull and his cleric beast form.
there are proberbly others but would have to look it up

I know I'm late to the bloodborne train by two years or so, I just found the game rather late... I've been religiously playing the game and reading pretty much anything I could get my hands on about the lore. There are still tons of questions though...
Relevant to this video, I'm wondering how can Kos be a real great one if she is pregnant. Don't they need surrogates? Also, another thing which bugs me is that the game says: "Nightmare slain" when you kill the shadow of the orphan. Judging by the other two "Nightmare slain" messages, Mergo (not its wet nurse) and Moon Presence, it's quite natural (and many people have pointed this out), that these "nightmares" which you slay are the source of the some sort of scourge/distortion. So... at the same time the Kos parasite is clearly referenced as the source for the beastification phenomenon in fishing hamlet. But, the "nightmare slain" message suggests this phenomenon is the doing of the Orphan, rather than the mother, no?
Anyway, thanks for all this. I don't have high hopes for getting a response this late, but nonetheless thanks.

Brador doesn't invade people just because they found the key to his cell. On my first playthrough, I literally didn't see Simon on the ground near the Hamlet lamp and never took the key. Brador still invaded me in all the first three places until I finally picked up the key after that. So the key isn't the trigger for the invasion

Something you touched on at the start, about the Church Giants. Notice that they go into a trance at night? Except for the one in the Lecture Hall and two of the three in the cave under Iosefka's Clinic, the other one down there is kneeling under the moonlight seeping into the cave. So is it that the giants are enchanted by the moon?
Only the giants touched by moonlight take a knee, but recall that the one overlooking the Great Bridge is kneeling even before the sun sets, yet he's ensnared by a large iron ball. A symbol for the moon perhaps? He swings it around himself like an orbiting body, after all.

There's always been a problem with these Sous games, where we have this notion( and rightfully so) that every item placement, every gameplay mechanic, every line of dialogue, and every contradiction is filled with purpose and put there intentionally.
It's a very frustrating experience to piece it all together, because so many blank spots are left out.
Dark Souls suffers from this by being an unfinished game, where there are numerous instances wether you have to really consider the possibility that maybe the devs simply didnt have time and placed an item for the sake of it, or that maybe they re-used a statue on another spot because of budget issues.
I guess thats what makes the lore of these games so great, but it's a shame we don't have a definitive answer by the developers if everything is where it should be( That Iosefka's blood vial on Mensis Nightmare keeps me up at night).
Maybe the key is placed where Simon would be dead, because they wanted to give it to the player in some shape or form. Maybe Brador only attacks you after you pick up the key, because the devs felt that it would be unfair for the player to not have a chance of defeating him( he is a tough sob, and fighting him so many times with respawns?damn).
Maybe they re-used the Cleric Beast due to budget constraints? But then again, Brador is using a Cleric Beast set? So where does that leave the Bloodletting Beast? It's clearly the Bloodletter was added for the connection.
Maybe Brador drops the set in specific places, because that's simply where you would get it if you killed his phantoms.
    It boggles my mind.
Anyways, I do love the idea that Yharnam is actually a city to dispose of unwanted foreigners. I always wondered who the hell came up with the idea of giving the city the name of an Undead Queen. Now it makes alot more sense, it was already named that when lore heavy characters started to pop up.
It also makes me wonder, if Yharnam was a set up by the Phtumerians. Maybe they wanted people to come in, so they could perform their rituals? Maybe what happened in Loran, was actually caused by them? They need Beast blood for some reason? Maybe....they actually need *Vermin*?
I also really enjoyed the idea that Brador knows us. One of the first impressions I had when booting up the game was how detailed the backstory of the classes where and how they didnt give a clear idea of what the class was good at.
And that foreign set under the Cleric Beast coat was really driving me crazy, i can go with this idea, yeah.
However, I find it kind of a strech that we and Brador came from Fishing Hamlet, our clothing nowhere would fit that place, I think it was always a small fishing village. Maybe thats another oversight by the devs....
Is there information anywhere regarding if Myazaki was heavily behind this DLC? was this story already part of the main game? How much did they come up with after the main game launched? That's very useful info we dont have.
Anyways, I love these videos, very informative and fun. I can't wait for a video where we, the actual players, are in fact Oedon, a Great One controlling the Foreigner. Cheers!

41:01 turns out that the guidebook is correct because the japanese description of Kos parasyte says that the corpse was just "abandoned" on the beach and the villagers say that "mother was killed", not just that she's dead. Lokey talked about this in his blog.
I think that Kos gave eyes on the inside to Rom as Micolash says but since her metamorphosis was imperfect Willem ordered the hunter to slauther the villagers and Kos to take the umbilical cord he desired, he wanted to ascend by himself since he saw what happened to Rom ("Provost Willem sought the Cord in order to elevate his being and thoughts to those of a Great One, by lining his brain with eyes. The only choice, he knew, if man were to ever match their greatness"). This also explains the note found in the lecture building: "hunt the Great Ones. Hunt the Great Ones"

The idea of Yharnam existing in a different time from the outside world could explain why the Doll states that "....countless hunters have visited this dream. The graves here stand in their memory. It all seems so long ago now...". If Yharnam exists outside of time, moving at a faster rate than the outside world, how long ago did the Pthumerians exist? How long have there been hunter's being branded and sent out to hunt? We can count on one hand how many Paleblood hunters there are, or at least that we know. As far as we know, Yharnam hasn't existed for a very long time, at the most... 150 years probably. But if time is "convoluted" it could have existed for much longer, who knows.
    TL;DR: Time is wack.

Wow, that was a breath-takingly amazing video (literally, in that the excitement left me on the edge of my seat...which, honestly, made Calvin's interruptions really well appreciated, like in a horror movie when moments of humor, if well-placed, help to cut the tension and let it build back up instead of creating a numbness). I'm not sure what I think of the elements of the theory, but I think the parts all hang together--the support is there for it to be a legitimate way of thinking about it. Also supporting your theory about the Paleblood note we find upon awakening, apparently the Japanese version of the game makes it explicit that we left it for ourselves. I'm glad you mentioned Lord Dunsany, who as you note was one of Lovecraft's specifically cited inspirations--and most relevantly, his Bal-Sagoth cycle was Lovecraft's direct inspiration for the Dreamlands, with all their significance for Bloodborne. And while we're on the subject of Lovecraft, let's not forget one of the big "we're from the Fishing Hamlet" clues: if the Fishing Hamlet really is the Bloodborne-world equivalent of Innsmouth...what's the big secret that that the protagonist of "The Secret of Innsmouth" learns, eh? One is hardly proof of the other, but...when we start drawing parallels, one has to ask the question, right?
Looking forward to more of your lore videos!

In support of your statement that Yharnam is not just the city but an area: both Gilbert and Gherman talk about different parts of Yharnam as being entirely separate town/cities/hamlets.
I love the ideas you present in this video about Brador knowing us and both the PC and Brador being from the fishing hamlet, though a fair bit of it feels like a long stretch and reach. I'd love it to be true, but I can't wholly dedicate myself to the idea. Although, that said, assuming your theory to be true why do we and Brador not look like very unhappy fish people? Why are these two characters the only ones that still look human if they're from the fishing hamlet and everyone else from that location is very deformed? Is that to be explained entirely by this being in the nightmare?
It would seem to me that the quickest way to test your idea on Brador and the Hunter being from the same location would be to change back into our foreigner gear before talking to him and to see if that changes the dialogue any.

Like, the first thing I thought when I saw Brador's clothes' description was that it was Laurence that he killed.
The only problem with this theory is that Brador is never mentioned by any other character in the game safe for Samuel and all the Laurence's companions were already accounted for, so what possible reason would Brador, a person originally from the fishing hamlet, would have for following Laurence into the Pthumerian dungeons? It would imply that either Brador followed Gerhman into Yarhnam on a revange quest and when he came across the workshop and found out that Gerhnam is already in the dream he had no choise but to follow Laurence into the labyrinth. The problem however is that Brador is the "Church Assassaisn" and that implies he had some connection with the healing church. And how would the school of Mensis get into the possession of little Mergo, if the only two people to ever reach pregnant queen Yarhnam were Laurence and Brador? He would have to be a part of Mensis or at least the Church at large already and that would mean he'd be a supporter of Laurence, so again, what the hell is he doing in Yarhnam in the first place and why is he a member of the Church, if he comes from the fishing hamlet and the church's elite is somewhat responsible for the massacre of his kinsmen? Why would he want to be with these guys?
But you know what? I think I know why the Bloodletting Beast is a *Bloodletting* Beast and yes, part of it is that it was Laurence and it itself was bloodlet, possibly by Brador yes, but there is also a more sinister reason. In the next room after the Bloodletting Beast, there is Queen Yarhnam. Pregnant Queen Yarhnam. But the Queen that haunts us in the Nightmare of Mensis is not pregnant, she has a huge gashing wound on her stomach and her hands are stuck in a pillory, her legs are also tied. I think... That she was bloodlet. I think that Laurence had found the pregnant Queen, trying to find a good substitute for the Moon Presence, because it's descend accelerated the spread of the scourge. He tied her and cut her belly open looking for a baby. Only the problem was, there was nothing there, because remember, Oedyn is *formless* and so is his baby. Laurence had failed and in the wake of that he himself went fully insane and succumbed to the beast, transofrming into the first Cleric Beast, the Bloodletting Beast. He stumbles out of the room in the midst of transofrmation and there he meets... Someone. Possibly Brador, but again, we have no way of knowing. Whoever he met killed him and somehow Mensis found out about this and somehow managed to get their hands on an unsubstential child and tried to use it to summon it's dad, but they were interrupted at the very last second by the PC.

Minor correction: crucifixion did sometimes involve nailing the wrists or hands of the victim. Josephus mentions it when discussing the seige of Jerusalem. The Romans had a variety of ways to crucify a person, but the distinction was nailing the feet to a gibbet to ensure a slow, agonizing death.

I agree with this except the part about Brador knowing us from before. I think he was mainly surprised see a "sane" Hunter, mainly bc Simon saw it as a convenient surprise. Really got me thinking about the reason why Brador skinned the Cleric Beast. Before I was thinking this was a Trophy for him in a way but after listening to your theory about it I think he skinned him to maybe hide what the beast really was from the populace. For the most part we, the players, can look at a Cleric Beast and say, "Hey, that's a fucken Cleric Beast!" without even having to read it's name bc all the Cleric/Church-type beasts we've seen have shit in common so it's not too big of a stretch to theorize that the people in that area can also tell, or maybe they've never had a chance to see one, thanks to the Church and their (in Simon's weird ass way of saying) "Secrets."
