    The reason Ocelot is "invisible" is actually kinda dark. In an early version of the game, the character model was actually there, but From decided that a deranged half dragon smashing a baby into the ground was a bit to brutal, so they removed the model and all the sound files related to said smashing. Don't think you can find the video, but the sound files are floating around.

    adding to the theory of ornstein discarding his armor to begin the transformation to a dragon: what if he did not only go through with it, but also became the most powerful of them and transformed into the giant bird thing the nameless king is riding on?
    the swirly horns of the big bird and dragon head stone users look quite similar.
    that would also fit ornstein being the firstborn's faithful knight as he still stands by his side.
    plus he gets smashed and absorbed by his 'duo partner' once again.

      I have always thought that to be the case. The hint of the Storm Curved Sword was what convinced me that was it. His power absorbed by his master and mentor for that final fight just as the Old Gods of Anor Londo always did. There's three clues pointing to it, and none disputing it. I'll take it as my canon. It would also explain his powers of lightning shining through even his Dragon Form, which as far as I know is not only unique, but downright contradictory to all other dragon nature. It fits with his lightning imbued dragonslayer background well.

    When I fought Oceiros, I thought for sure that the crying baby sound was coming from Oceiros himself. That indicated to me that he probably lost his son and went so mad with grief that he convinced himself that Oceilot was still alive and developed some form of multiple personality disorder. The reason he smashes the "baby" in phase two might be that somehow he remembered that Oceilot is dead, and that's why his phase two is so much more aggressive. Equal parts rage and having nothing left to protect.

      Agreed.
      It's like when we went to kill Sif. Sif was just guarding his master's grave. And we went there only for a ring. The first time I fought Sif and I see him limping, I almost broke out of the battle... Poor guy didn't have to be killed.
      All we have to do is just grab the ring and run away!! WHY SIF, FROMSOFT?!

      Mika Streich Yeh, it hits me almost eery time....but I've gotten to my third journey, and used a few other new characters and have remembered that attack. It's a devastating blow if you've spent so much time trying to kill him, and he kills you off with that eruption of fire. Thankfully, he is done attacking indefinitely after that, and only attempts to swipe his arm at you, but can't because he's too weak.
      He got me 2-3 times before I knew what I was doing. On the 3rd attempt ever, I remembered that sneaky move....but it's sad in the end, because (again) he's the last of it's kind :(

  • @xGLOKINx
    @xGLOKINx 8 лет назад +841

    You can see in many videos concepts of ocelott, including horrible sounds of him being crushed, the blood when he is smashed was replaced with water, and everything that show violence was cut off because the creators realize that the game was going to be cut-off in many countries because its was a little "too much".
    And maybe i`m one of the only ones that think this scene is one of the most important in the game.
    Oceiros fight was suppose to be one of the most "Oh shit..." moments in the game, its was suppose to shock the player, and make him realize all the violence and madness that stroke lothric (kingdom). Most of the moments in the game show a lot of corruption of the world, showing man-centipedes and gooed holy knights that make you either feel sad or grossed, but you really never see the gravity of the situation. Oceiros fight was to really show that the "shit hit the fan", showing how the great kingdom of lothric has fallen into disgrace after so many attempts of make a heir to link the fire.
    Many people think it would just be some "gore porn" showing a baby being killed, i also think its horrible but it would be such a powerful moment in the game, one that would strike the player when deciding if he should link the fire, just like seeing the body of countless fire-keepers in a pit. Just like Dark Souls 1 that you find the truth of the dark age avoiding your regular path and finding Dark Stalker Kathe, i think Oceiros might be a optional boss for the same reason, being a hidden horrible truth of the cursed path of linking the fire.
    It would be such a emotional fight seeing a twisted father trying to protect his baby and then shocking when he kills his own soon in a strike of madness. After the censor, all the focus on the "invisible" baby, and a weird cry of one of the background and Oceiros looking like hes holding something in the entire fight (even in the second form) just make the player confused if he should be seeing something, or if the baby is invisible or if is any baby at all. Most players just went "wow thats was wierd... OH HEY! A MYSTERIOUS DOOR!".
    For me Oceiros fight should be one of the most memorable in the Dark Souls franchise and make me really sad seeing ending like that. Oh yeah, my english may be kind bad in some parts but thank you if you read it all.

      Estevao When you say violence, do you mean shown in game? Because there are cut voicelines and stuff, but there's never any actual showing of him beating a child or even blood at any point. It was all done through voicelines. The babies invisible too and that was always planned. The voicelines cut suggest he either ate or beat the baby into a pulp. Either way, even without the visual component, it is some fucked shit. Easily some of the most disturbing things I've heard.

    I have horrid memories of Havel's basement.
    First time playing souls. Picked wanderer with master key burial gift. Everything went fine and dandy for the first little bit, overleveled myself WAY to much from farming, found the early blacksmith dude in the New Londo ruins, and I even discovered the Uchigatana semi-accidentally. I then got to the Taurus Demon's spiral staircase and, out of curiosity, unlocked the door to Havel's basement with my master key. I saw Havel standing at the bottom of the basement, and thought "Huh, I have 17 Dex with a +3 Uchigatana, I can take him." I attack the rockman, trying to stunlock him, but the poise was too much. He rears up his semi-penis shaped dragon tooth for a slam attack and, me being a first time noob, I raise my dinky nipple shield in hopes of blocking.
    My healthbar instantly transforms from a deep red hue, to a yellow colour similar to the liquid slowly filling my pants.

Again, don't expect it to be accurate cause I don't know that much about Dark Souls. But Ornstein is supposedly alive in this 'universe' also, despite being killed in a previous one. This is the same for Havel. So, is it possible that Seath also remained alive in this universe? And you see the man in the armor, in the Way of the Dragon pose. What I wonder, is perhaps he had done the research to possess, Seath? Is that as all a possibility? Well, if it is or not, I just put the idea out there. Again, There may be things out there to discredit it, so if there is, sorry for goin on about this here, but in case there isn't.... Well. Here's an idea.

    You never talked about the Stray Demon's relation to Havel. Its soul can be transposed into Havel's Ring, and his armor can be found nearby. Both the ring and the armor also make reference to the fact that many individuals follow in Havel's footsteps. It implies that the person we meet in game is in fact not Havel, but someone who killed the Stray Demon to construct a ring and armor in Havel's likeness. We also see 'Havel' standing in front of a dead wyvern, so it's possible he had just finished harvesting a Dragon's Tooth from it.

    • @KrimsinYT
      @KrimsinYT 8 лет назад +74

      Also, you should explore more into the details of Lucatiel's relation to the Curse-Rotted Greatwood. Hodrick has her shield, her armor is in a nearby tower, and her mask can be bought for a Vertebra Shackle which implies she has some relation to the Mound Makers. Also, Sirris has a habit of killing people from Mirrah, and only shows up when you're out of Undead Settlement...

Hodrick's Shield text says it's from the Sunless Realms as well, but we recognize it as Lucatiel's shield, meaning the Sunless Realms is Mirrah. Also, Sirris is either lying about being a Darkmoon, or believed to be dead by her superiors. When you join the Darkmoons, Yorshka specifically mentions that there aren't any Darkmoon Knights left.

    I think I read somewhere that Oceiros is indeed the father of Lothric and Lorian. After listening to this, I feel like, to a degree, that Oceiros was displeased with his two sons, Lorian who was fully human, Lothric who may or may not be a dragon-kin (if you closely, he has long clawed hands, so this is a theory that I'm actually quite fond of) and if he is, the genetic bastardization is probably what resulted in him being so sick and frail and Ocelotte was the ideal hybrid, but Oceiros had already gone mad and the queen had left. I think personally that the queen took Ocelotte with her when she fled and Oceiros was hallucinating the whole thing and the crying we hear is some kind of demonic-magical reflection of his insanity.

    Ornstein went off to serve the Nameless King. In order to reach him, he needed to go on the Path of the Dragon. He completed his journey and became a dragon himself. A very special kind of dragon. With no need for armor or weapons he left them off to the side and became the storm drake that the Nameless King rides. When you kill Ornstein in Dark Souls 1, Smough consumes his soul and becomes strengthened with lighting. When you defeat the storm drake in Dark souls 3, the same exact thing happens. Ornstein the Storm Drake, unlike any dragon before him.

    • @maxenfelter
      @maxenfelter 7 лет назад +68

      I find it more likely that the Drake is something else, and that Ornstein became one of the many transformed dragons. If only because the power of storm seems quite specifically different from the power of lightning. The Nameless King already has quite a lot of lightning, but the King Of Storms doesn't have any lightning attacks. And when NK finally absorbs the KOS' soul he doesn't get any more lightning. Rather, he gains flight and extreme speed. These sound like completely different things (Ornstein's speedhacking charge attack during his first boss fight not withstanding)

    • @Yal_Rathol

      @@thelichking9070 the lion ring can still be found in ds3, meaning it was left there, so it's possible that ornestein left that to Gwyndolin. Also, it's a bit strange how Ornstein grows in size so much, like it's malleable. I think when we kill ornstein smough just lights his hammer with lightning (he was a follower of gwyn, it's entirely possible that he had something similar since even silver knights do), while if we kill smough first, the illusion just gets bigger.
      Also, it's entirely possible that gwyndolin too is an illusion, at least his death, since we find him getting devoured by aldritch later. Lastly, even if you kill gwyndolin gwynevere illusion remains until she's killed. Everyone gets to believe their own theory, but i think this one makes sense!

      Dark Souls 1 most proliferated theme is how you are not a real chosen one of fate, but one of chance, the undead that arrives when the world was weakened enough for you to beat the challenges, that's why Anor Londo is a land of illusions and deceptions, just a front to reinforce that belief of you being special, when in reality Gwyndolin only wants you to get burned on the first flame. But the odd one here is Ornstein, he was not weakened, and his status was one of the highest order, with him being the leader of Gwyn's four, it just doesn't makes sense that you are able to kill him, much less with his back up, but when you face another warrior of Gwyn, Artorias, who is weakened, you can barely keep up with him, and even people comment how what you did was just putting him out of his misery. Is only logical to think about Ornstein as an illusion.

    "Soul of Ornstein, Dragonslayer Knight who guards the cathedral in the forsaken city of Anor Londo.
    Special beings have special souls. Lord Gwyn granted this soul to his four most trusted knights."
    As you can read right here Ornstein's soul was granted this soul by Gwyn. So it might not be actually his personal soul, but more of a manifestation of power (Ornstein's power) granted by Gwyn. Just like Gwyn gave parts of his soul to Seath, the 4 Kings and the other 3 knights (and to other gods as well). I think Ornstein left this soul to guard the cathedral in his stead when he himself left or Gwyndolin created a powerful illusion of this soul to the point it became physical.

    About the Sacred Oath miracle, many people think, me included, that there are not 4 people (the Sun, the firstborn, the knight and the dragonslayer) being mentioned in it, but only 3 (the Sun, the firstborn and the dragonslayer):
    "This is the tale of the Sun's firstborn, his faithful first knight, and the brave dragonslayer who served them both."
    The comma between "and" and "his faithful first knight" may not be just an Oxford comma.
    "his faithful first knight" may be explaining "firstborn", with "his" referencing "the Sun" (Gwyn) and "the dragonslayer who served them both" would be Ornstein, who served the firstborn, as his first knight, and the Sun, as the captain of the Four Knights of Gwyn.
    So what I think the miracle is trying to say is:
    "This is the tale of Sun's firstborn, [who was] *his* (the Sun's) faithful first knight, and the brave dragonslayer who served them *both* (the Sun and the Sun's firstborn)"

    I'd like to voice a personal theory here, about how the three games relate to each other in terms of continuity. It came to me fairly early in the game, in the Undead Settlement, and I'm not entirely certain if later events in the game really support it, but I'd still like to just put it out there.
    I suspect that Dark Souls II and III represent different, branching paths from the outcome of the original game. Dark Souls III has a lot more in common with the original than it does with the sequel, in terms of the plot structure, the recurring themes, and overall feel of the narrative. I posit that this is because Dark Souls III takes place in a universe where the Chosen Undead protagonist in the original linked the First Flame, whereas Dark Souls II takes place in a world where the Chosen Undead didn't.
    In Dark Souls III, linking the fire is a practiced and hallowed tradition. Lords and kingdoms have been doing it for ages, all in homage to the first linking of the fire. In Dark Souls II, only three people ever mention linking the flame; Nashandra at the very end, the Emerald Herald (also towards the very end), and the Shaloquir the Cat, who describes the Lost Sinner's actions with horror. Dark Souls II also fails to mention most of the kingdoms and lands that are present in the original game, and for the longest time Dark Souls III hardly seemed to mention the events or characters of II in turn. To me, this suggested that either Dark Souls II takes place a long time after III (when memory of tradition and old kingdoms has faded), or that these are different branching paths... and I think the cosmology supports the latter notion.
    The world of Dark Souls II seems more stable. There isn't a lingering oblivion gnawing away at the horizon; we aren't racing the clock against the death of the First Flame. Indeed, the First Flame is hardly ever mentioned. Our chief antagonist is a shard of a broken god, a primordial entity of the abyss coalesced and set on a long, slow campaign to overtake humanity. Combined with how little recollection remains of the events of the original game, I've come to suspect that Dark Souls II takes place after the Chosen Undead embraced an age of dark, only for a new age of fire (or perhaps, of light) to come. We'd be playing on the tail end of that second age of fire, when entropy is mounting and the curse of undeath rises again. It's already made the transition once... possibly several times, in fact. Light and Dark are regarded as more cyclical, and less apocalyptic, and the true conflict is less about the fate of the first flame and more about the fate of humanity, balanced between the curse of undeath, darkness, and transitory light.
    Dark Souls III, by contrast, really feels like the first game. We walk the ruins of lost cities built by gods, and just like in the first game, the fire is growing dim, and soon will fail entirely. We are in the exact same position as we were in Dark Souls I, only this looming catastrophe has been skirted for millennia, each temporary sacrifice buying a few more generations. The Chosen Undead linked the first flame, and created a tradition of martyrs and sacrifice that have kept the original Age of Fire limping along. Whereas II leaves the resolution of the first game open, there can be no doubt that the Chosen Undead in the original linked the flame when you're playing Dark Souls III.
    Now, I mentioned that I came up with this theory fairly early in the game, pondering the absence of influence from places in Dark Souls II, but then bit by bit I saw some of them return, creeping into descriptions. You mention the Mirrah set in this video, as well as Forrosa and artifacts from II, like Lucatiel's Hollow-Slayer sword. All I can offer on that account is the suggestion that, in this over-long age of fire, some of the more mundane events that transpired across II's cycles also happened here. New kingdoms arose, a warrior-lord created a nation and then fell, Mirrah and Forrosa came to existence, but maybe didn't develop some of their seminal properties or individuals in this timeline.
    I want to end this over-long post with just a couple quick questions.
    -Did anyone else notice statues of what seemed like the Primordial Serpents dressed in priestly robes/hat in Lothric? I seem to recall them between figures of more human individuals on pillars near the Dragonslayer Armor boss fight.
    -Could Irrithyl of the Boreal valley be Eleum Loyce? They have a similar aesthetic, just in terms of the glorious elegant white armor they're fond of, they're both built over a pit of primordial chaos flame, and they're both scoured with naught but undead and monsters guarding them by the time we arrive. Eleum Loyce might even be a phonetic corruption of Anor Londo, if you stretch things a bit. Not sure what to make of it, if it is so... Irithyll could be be the same location, developing with a Pontiff instead of a Warrior King and a Daughter of Dark?

    I had a thought about Havel. If there's evidence to suggest that he plotted to kill a god or multiple gods but was locked away or failed, maybe he searched for more extreme methods. Because Havel despised the dragons right? And if his two closest comrades in arms, The Nameless King and Ornstein, both left everything they previously believed in to take the path of the Dragon, I think Havel would be furious about that. But back to the other point, after being unsuccessful for whatever reason, maybe he thought his only choice left was the way of a demon? We get Havel's ring from the soul of the Stray Demon and after killing him in Archdragon Peak his gear is found in that spot as well. And the Stray Demon is the only demon we find in the game with no fire whatsoever. In fact he seems to be more thematic of rocks or boulders. Maybe Havel took a method to become a demon but because he wasn't a "full" demon to begin with or the chaos flame was already so low that his flame quickly ran out.

      actually i knew all of this in my first playthrough. everything that was said here is from in game lore, from Item descriptions. when you try to transpose a soul, read the soul's own description, and then read the description of each item you can transpose, and you'll basically know all the lore.
      what i like about Dark souls, is that not only the knowledge is locked away in item descriptions, which you might not even find in your playthrough, but also once your found the item and read its lore, you never need another break down or explanation about them !

    I liked the theory for the nameless king being Ferrosa. Another clue you could use for that is the whole lion knight symbol, especially when you consider who his loyal first knight is, who wears a helmet in the the shape of a lion head and wears the leo ring. Now I admit, he probably became king before Ornstein went out to find him, but there is an interesting similarity there don't you think?

    This is super late but my idea on Oceiros is that the baby is an illusion formed by the queen, who took the Ocelot away with her. (he can't see so it seems to just be a physical, yet invisible illusion for whatever reason)
    In the boss fight, he keeps calling for Ofel
    I think Ocelot is Prince Lothric, as that seems to be his title, rather his name, and his pale, clawed appearance.
    I'm not sure about any age differences to the twins and dragon child, and it seems strange that all this is happening as the child is still a baby. I know about the game models, but I'd like to have a confirmation if the boss fight is censored or not.

    • @SkullPlaysDestiny
      @SkullPlaysDestiny 6 лет назад +43

      This is also super late but Ocelotte was actually censored in the final release of the game because if you play the alpha version you can still see the baby in his hands and when he smashes it to the ground it becomes very bloody and bruised so they censored it to avoid controversy most likely. The lines where he says things like, "Where are you my dear little Ocelotte", and, "Come out, there's no need to hide", were added at the last minute to make it not seem as confusing when wondering what baby he was talking about. there's a video on it by some dude that talks about all the cut ideas and content of Dark Souls 3 if you want to learn more.

    This thought popped into my head while rewatching this video,
    You mention in previous videos that size is more a representation of power in Souls games.
    Bearing that in mind, Ornstein’s discarded armor and the nameless king’s unique mount could be clues to the fate of Ornstein. Perhaps, Ornstein’s loyalty caused him to complete the path of the dragon and transform into the Lord of Storm who The Nameless King rides into battle.
    The forlorn touch when he’s slain is obviously Nameless saying goodbye to a trusted and loyal friend, whether it be just a dragon or the transformed Ornstein.
