+Aegon of Astora Bloodlickers in the main game don't cause poison? Well, these ones were drinking from the River of Blood which flows through Old Yharnam. Hmmm, I wonder what the best way to distribute a poison throughout a city population is. :D

about bloodlickers dont they remind of musquitos cause they the same stuff...
so it wont be strange for them to sort inflicked diseases off the blood in old yahrnahm
and one other thing the bloodlickers at ceinhast will make no sense to inflict poison buildup simply cause of the cold there - no disease could possibly grow effectively in that enviroment and nothing new came we know that becuase in ceinhast the blood licker didnt eat in awhile(their stomaches arent as fat as old hunters bloodlicker) in other words its possible that they did inflict poison buildup and that a long comment

    • @alex9x9
      @alex9x9 8 лет назад

+Aegon of Astora That is strange because the bloodlikers in Cainhurst drank from the massacre that happened in the courtyard where the executioners killed all the nobles and knights. They should be filled with vermin.

      *****
      that event happent long ago...
and the bloodlickers didnt have food for a long time maybe the vermin died of hunger if thats the case then it could explain why the blood licker lived after all that while; maybe they consumed the weakened vermin or maybe just their biology allows them to avoid vermin?

What I loved about your videos was that they always reminded me of the simpler days on RUclips when one dude with some good thoughts and a webcam could put out amazing content and be seen. You're so genuine, not having to rely on slick editing and other gimmicks. No dramatic music and spooky voice. No begging for money or subscriptions. A damn breath of fresh air around here now. Even back when you were making these videos they felt that way, because RUclips has been beyond the "dude with a webcam" phase for awhile. I wish there were more content creators like you around. I hope things are going well for you in whatever you are up to these days, thanks for all the great videos.

Man, I'm a french guy (sorry for my english) who is amazed by your work. I usually never comment on youtube or on internet, and I comment on a video made one year ago, so I don't really know what happened next for you, but what you are saying about your work striked me. What you've done have an incredible value, you should definitively put it on a proper editing, a real book, because maybe you think that is it nonsense, or it take too much of your energy, or it affects you a lot, this is gold for a BloodBorne lover, but not only.
Bloodborne, like a lot of videogames, will be ne next masterpiece that will define the culture (and I mean, the whole Culture, among cinema, music and books) in the next decades. There will be the same analysis, the same devotion, the same debates that occures in Cinema. Considering Bloodborne has the "2001, a Space Odyssey" of videogame, or maybe "Battleship Potemkin", in the way those movies and Bloodborne operate a revolution inside their Art : the way a story is tell (throught montage for those movies ; thought architecure, observation, objects, space and connexions betweens elements for Bloodborne and Dark Souls), and considering the fact that how minors movies are treated in terme of analysis (some prestigeous universities gave lessons about Harry Potter), your work will be one day a work really really valuable, and not only in videogames, but in the general History of Art, when videogame will be considered to have the same art value as a book.
Your Paleblood story really looks like a university study, just like we can do for movies, considering the fact that you analyse not only on what there is inside the game, but also outside : ethymology, litterature (Lovecraft, Berserk), japan culture references (kanji, the story about Mercure), western culture (tarotology, myths)... just like a proper university study can do with all the rest of the cinema production. You juste have 20 years in advance and this work will be a really valuable work for those who want to do the same with Bloodborne or other videogame, because I've never seen an analysis going so deep inside what a game can produce in terme of references.
Lovecraft was at his time considered as a minor author made for crazy geeks like us. And now when his art, those fictions he made became as valuable and as important as the Drama, he became a master, and the greatest french author of the decade, Michel Houellbecq, made an analysis of his work, and his analysis is considered as a masterpiece ! What I mean is that your work will follow the destiny of the subject you choose, Bloodborne, and Bloodborne will follow the destiny of the videogame, and videogame will follow the destiny of cinema, as an Art really deep and meaningfull, able to gave an other comprehension of the world, and a new spectrum of emotion. And we need works like your to make that happen, not only in order running after for a legitimity, but to give the need, the ambition to authors to create better games, deeper, more meaningfull, for increasing more and more the level of the videogames.
Think about the next decade and not only today, PaleBlood Hunter is like a universitarian analysis, and Internet is not really the ideal media for this kind of work. As you say, you prefere writting, explaining with words and not videos what you want to say. So you admit that there is good medium and bad medium for a work to be understood. So I think it is the same for the plateform of diffusion in which you want to share your work.
I mean, it had to be released on internet, because of the nature of the community and the viewers, but it have to go beyond that. You've gone too far in the analysis of this masterpiece, now you are involved in the History of Art, maybe it is hard to endorse because it is lot of work and pressure, but all the good reviews you had about your work should reassure you, the msot difficult part is done, you just have to found an editor. And sorry to say that but you have a kind of duty for the next generation, and obvioulsy, for the work you've made ! It should have the place he deserve, a proper book, that will be valuable (not money you don't care, I talk about knowledge) in many many years, and not the funest destiny of all of the great work made on internet, just vanishing and being forgotten. It has to be physical, in respect for your own work, and for Bloodborne and the future masterpiece it will be considered as.
I don't mean that videogame and Bloodborne have to purchase an institutional legitimity as an Art, like Cinema or Music, there is a huge debate about it, whether or not videogame have to follow the destiny of the Cinema, if it will afect the process or creation in a good or bad way. But if it does, your work will be a huge contribution in the History of Art. Please make something of the Paleblood, it took big part of your time and energy, but maybe one day, and because it is your passion, you will see it as the best achievement of your life, and really, some people made less than you made but for a movie, it's just that the masterpiece you worked on has not yet the place he deserve in the History of Art !
Thank you very much for all the time you spend studying this game, I hope somebody can understand my english !

A note on the Chikage's Bloodtinge capabilities: in order to buy the Chikage we need the Cainhurst Badge, and the only way you can get that is by "partaking" of Queen Annalise's blood and becoming a Vileblood ourselves.
    Game. Set. Match.

+Centimeterworm at the same time I can go into the chalice dungeons and get an uncanny or Lost Chikage without ever becoming a Vileblood.

    • @ReyndommVideos
      @ReyndommVideos 8 лет назад +13

I thought about that a day or so after I posted this. My working theory is that the Chikage we get from the Bath Messengers is a "fresh" specimen, that has never been used before. The Chikages we find in the dungeons, however, were probably taken from the corpses of dead Cainhurst Knights who had already imbued them with their own blood. I imagine that the weapons become saturated and "corrupted" by the vile blood of their previous owners.

What a coincidence. We'll sir, I've watched almost all the lore I could find, and I'm not much of a reader but I had not even read a full page of your book before I decided it was a collectors item. I printed it so I could read it in bed. But this item you've created... I felt like I had to enjoy it right. Like a rare collectors item. I bought paper, set up my printer, got a binder with page holders for a cover and back page, created a simple cover and back page, got binder dividers for the chapters, and wasted about 100 papers making sure it was perfectly double sided 1-107 before I could sit in bed and enjoy it. I did the same thing when I got my ps4, didn't play it until my room was clean and my environment was just perfect. I'm by no means a perfectionist but before even delving in I knew it was something special, something I wanted to take the time to respectfully prepare for it. Because I know the lore of this amazing game, and you've written a book about it. I couldn't even make heads or tails of the story without people like you, let alone compile the research, set the story in order and type 107 pages about a game I'm not even sure Im right about my understanding of it. But you sir, did it. And I could have read it on my tablet, but I did it my way, because I'm proud to now own a collectors item. That's what it is. It's no harder to obtain than a RUclips video, but it's unique, it's one of a kind, and it's a testament to you. You didn't have to. But you did. You should feel Damn good about it. And proud. And I thank you because I've heard great things about it. I'll probably own it until I die. And I don't even really know who you are. But I know what IT is. Anyway I'm tired and droned on but what I'm trying to say is I could tell it's something special, and no one else has done it. Your work can speak for itself without having been read yet, to someone like me who's in the know. You can stop worrying about the others making bloodborne content, and their videos views. You're already among their glory bro.

Any one who has read the Paleblood Hunt Thesis knows what great feats you are capable of achieving. The whole plagiarism thing was very sad and you have my full support. If i ever bump into you in NYC, i would certainly ask you for your autograph :)
On a serious note, you should set up a Patreon or PayPal. I realize this video is quite old but I've just gotten around to Bloodborne after having finally gotten a ps4 these past holidays. There is one source of poison that I don't believe anyone mentioned here: the Sages in the chalice dungeons that wield a corpse as a weapon, rather than the more common short sword (dagger maybe?), cause rapid poison with their attacks. I don't think this contradicts any of the points in the video as the corpse could easily have some kind of vermin in it, but I wanted to throw this here for posterity at least. Great content, love all the videos Redgrave.

Good for you man, love the honesty, it's rare to see someone being so open publicly about these darkest sides of our being and have complete understanding of what it is you feel instead of subcoinciosly making up excuses, either the pride you feel by being validated by other people and how it becomes an addiction or about the jelousy you feel against someone, but all that stuff is completly normal and no one can be blamed for feeling such things, glad to see you have accepted that part of yourself and moved on, very healthy stuff. (just had a flashback of persona 4 if you are fimiliar with that ps2 game ahah)
Moving on to the poison, brilliant stuff, i new those little maggots had to be related to the source of the poison somhow, also I supose you still hand't found laurance in the DLC at the time of making this video, cool that you concluded the bloodletting beast was not him even before meeting him ahah

I would find it weird if laurence is represented as a cleric beast on fire on this nightmare and then as the bloodletting beast in the dungeons, I mean I have nothing against people having different forms in different dreamland planes despite of whatever happened to them in the waking world but it feels like a stretch to me.
I had a impression this nightmare was created to punish byrgenworth, the healing church and the hunters, so I was thinking this nightmare is your fate after you die because of a curse. So after seeing laurence in there in that form I just concluded he was the cleric beast we killed after all, but I don't know if you have some insight on that to share with us it would be awesome 😀

I know, from personal experience, that writing can be draining, and exhausting. I would love to see a live event too, and I hope to see more from you here. Thank you so very much.
When I hear that you say only female beast patients cause poison, with the exception of buffed/red eye males, and the Bloodstarved Beast. Could it be because of menstrual blood that they cause poison? Then they can poison others (red eyes) with the blood. I don't know, it's a thought, and was the first one that came up. Is the Bloodstarved Beast female? I need to re-listen to your Paleblood Hunt, the new version, later. I say re-listen as I'm not good with reading, so I have Reader read it for me :P

About spending time and energy on something, English is not my mother tongue, and I'm starting to realise just how much Bloodborne has taught me in that area alone, without me even noticing (forget school). Obsession, it turns out, is indeed a potent source of human strength.

Awww yeah, it's my boy Redgrave! I saw your post on the Bloodborne subreddit when you published your final revision to your master piece the Paleblood Hunt. Obviously I read through it from top to bottom to see what conclusions you had drawn for The Old Hunters. First off, thank you very much for the work you've put in to fleshing out the story of Bloodborne as we know it. Secondly, when I saw in your post your intention to discontinue putting out content I was very sad. Seeing your video here on your channel was a wonderful surprise!
On the topic of what's going on in your life right now and how you've been feeling lately. You are far from alone in that feeling. It's something I think lots of people are guilty of, myself included. Needing recognition from others to feel better about yourself is a fundamental issue that many people face in finding their own personal happiness. It's something I struggle with regularly. But to see that you have risen above that, and that you were able to recognize it puts you in a much better position than most.
I've been rambling on myself, but the point of this comment is to let you know that your work is valued and appreciated. Whether or not its for us or for yourself is irrelevant. As long as you are passionate about what you do and it makes YOU happy then that's whats important. I'd be ecstatic to see you continue to release videos like these into the future, but if you find that your life and your own personal happiness is calling you down other avenues of life then I will be all the more happy for you.
    Thanks for everything.
    - Cory

One little thing nobody seems to have touched on regarding Adella. She's a black church member. Therefore she's WELL aware what forbidden blood is and rather than being jealous of Arianna giving you blood she is suspicious, and as soon as she's certain of what's happening (3 times receiving blood) she's straight in, bam, Arianna murdered just as Adella, and all her black healing church compatriots are trained to do. The black garb is not just a blood Saint thing, in the dlc the former Saint requesting murky mushy brain fluid is a white church member... Adella isn't a silly jealous girl, she's a trained killer! If someone's covered this I appologise! I have watched many many hours of lore theory but must have missed it!Keep being smart =^+^=

    • @Big_Dai
      @Big_Dai 7 лет назад +3

Well, that simply gives more information on Arianna being a Cainhurst decendant, and that the Church considered them impure.. even though her blood is "perfectly good" for the PC (player character).. there is a question of how blood becomes poison. When it is given, it heals.. but when it is used against us (Chikage, and many enemies being attacked or throwing it? ..can't remember if Ebrietas poisons).
Much like how we (Hunter) can only leave the Hunter's Dream if we accept death.. and how Gehrman can't actually kill us, and he tells us to give up and accept it, so we can leave (and we'll continue to challenge him until he is dead). As if intent affected things, in this case, blood. Maybe the Vermin inside us all..

I totally get what you were going through at the start of this. I've been through the ringer on that level, and to be honest it's an everyday struggle. I fortunately have found that i feel truly happy when I'm creating what I create (music, mostly) alone. When I can do something without anyone there to perform in front of and feel proud of it, I know I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
On the other hand, I truly appreciate your work. The Paleblood hunt is saved on my Mac and my iPhone. Keep doing it for yourself, and it'll just be a fantastic bonus that I and others find joy in what you do.

Hey bro, I only just found your channel a week or so ago and finished your Paleblood Hunt. I had the worst time with Bloodborne, both gameplay and lore, and I really do appreciate your passion for the lore and contributions to the people who enjoy it. In my humble opinion you created a more enjoyable experience of the game for me, to help understand what I'm playing and to give me the extra surge to power through the game to enjoy it how everyone else did. Your lore is like you were mainlining something I never got, and you did offer something that made the game so much better. I almost never comment on videos but I wanted you to know that I never would have finished this game without you, so thanks.

The fact that you did this, all this (the videos, the reddit posts, the effort in general), for yourself is honestly what makes this content so excellent.
I finally got to play bloodborne in the last couple weeks despite fromsoft and Dark Souls being my all time favorites and within two days of beating the game for the 2nd time (when I started reading posts and watching videos) I could immediately tell that you and a small handful of others were the true lore heroes of this story. Anyone who has the slightest effort for the lore of bloodborne can plainly see who's doing the work.
I realize this video is old now, and that you probably won't even read this comment but I guess I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks for having passion for something and, even though it's not FOR us, at least allowing us to share in that passion!

Man, that 1st part where you talk about "this video is not for you, it's for ME" - I'm there with you 100%. I fully understand that thought process. I have the need for sharing my thoughts and lore on tons of games and it would probably be but in the end, it's basically for me that I would do it, if it was just to leave a trace of these thoughts (eventual glory and fandom hype nonwithstanding) And that's why I haven't gone really public with this (except doing very irregular blogs on various topics on a freelance basis). Plus... that shameful guilt of being kinda jealous of those guys that can make a living of doing what I also want to do... Well, not sure if I make myself clear but there you go... Guess that's one of the pratfalls of being extremely passionnate about things, to a point where you develop some kind of extreme protectiveness/jealousy..

A very thrilling and amazingly interessting explanation of poison! I never got so deep into that to just think of it in this deep way. Thanks.
And the beginning of the video and your talk about the impressions everyone gets with Bloodborne AND the Dark Soul games, is in my opinion the reason why its so stirring and exciting. Every one gets his own expressions, thoughts feelings. And so many people put together this pieces in one or another way. This is also the reason why the "Lore" is so great and so many talk about this. There are also people, like me, which haven´t this deep insight and can´t put together this lil knots and pieces... and then we watch and read and listen to people like you. People who share their thoughts and impressions. People who put hundreds of hours of work just into that to get their story and fascinating discoveries together for themselves and more, to bring it to the people who are interessted in it. You make great work and with a very, very interessting side of view on that. Amazing and great. Please go on with these kind of passion in such kind of things.

I am really enjoying the authenticity of your character most particularly. It is respectful to your audience and honest. Here's hoping that you will continue to create videos of this kind, it is really your strong suit. Thanks so much for continually providing this kind of food for thought! The conversation that it sparks in the community is truly fantastic which is one of many reasons why I'll always support you and your content. As for the topic of this video, here are a couple things that I noticed: In the Nightmare Research Hall, the first thing you find at the very bottom is that pool of poison you described. My immediate inference is that it's a pool of blue elixir, given its bluish hue and the vial of elixir you find in the center (and throughout the rest of the cathedral). According to its description, the elixir was developed by the Healing Church and, judging from what we find in the Hall, it was used by Maria and the Church to numb the brains of patients that they attempted to ascend to kin or even Great Ones.
Here's my little theory for why they failed, given the existence of the Living Failures: From the images of Madman's Knowledge and Great One's Wisdom, it appears as though "eyes on the inside" and insight are represented (or are literally) those maggot-like phantasms writhing inside our heads. Perhaps these phantasms are a kind of glorified vermin inside all of us? Perhaps what kept the Living Failures from ascending was the fact that the blue elixir used to grant them eyes were teeming with those parasitic maggots that nearly every party in Bloodborne were striving to acquire. Were Willem's and Micolash's missions for internal eyes ultimately against their best interest due to the very nature of those eyes? Some more food for thought... I think.
EDIT: Just found/remembered another source of poison, the Pthumerian madmen who slap you with dead bodies. The resulting mist causes rapid poison buildup :O

You're a very smart guy realizing that you must do things because YOU like them to do. I hope you don't mind comments in Jan '19 as I'm just playing Bloodborne and watching quality videos like yours.
What you said about Vaati's viewership makes me think about why certain videos or stupid memes end up going viral. Sometimes there is no accounting for taste, or randomness!
Your content is just as enjoyable and informative as Vaati's or Aegon's, etc. It seems the only difference is Vaati is a professional video producer, while you are a professional writer.
Thankfully, I grew up with a love for reading, a gift from my parents, while many people I know did not! And that seems to be a sad trend in today's world, or at least America.
There are internet apps like Facebook, Twitter and RUclips, there's television, there's film, and then there's the written word; the holy grail of creativity as none of the others would exist without a quality writer working behind the scenes.
Anyways, I just not only wanted to say that I'm an admirer, but that I empathize with and appreciate your honesty and willingness to discuss a rather complex issue.
So I wish you success and most importantly, happiness within that success, as I endeavor to attain the same lofty goals!

Hi Redgrave, just wanted to give a thumbs up with some emoji sparkle to your research. I couldn't help but wonder further about the idea of seeing other things inside the blood. The League Hunter's are propped by Valtr, a foreign hunter ostensibly considering his garb, and I find him fascinating for the fact that it is only he who introduces the notion of vermin. A stranger from a strange land sees something others do not--I find this telling. The establishing of oaths, i.e. beliefs in the blood's true nature are created with multiple characters in Bloodborne, each asks the player to confirm their prior knowledge of the blood by taking an oath, it is only then that they can see what the oath keeper sees. A hunter only sees blood dregs if they've confirmed the oath of Vileblood for the Queen of Cainhurst. A hunter only sees vermin only after they give their oath to Valtr. Both are consumed in their preoccupations for what the blood further holds and both provide an additional maddening detail for the Yharnam hunter.

You're very frank, Redgrave. I like you just the way you are. I think that enjoying the approval of others is a normal and natural biological part of being a human. It can drive intellectual and social innovation but one must not become enslaved by it, lest it adversely affect one's path in life. Personally, whatever interest I pursue I try to do it for my own enjoyment with the hope that maybe I can inspire others to enjoy and appreciate it, too.
Vaati only got where he is because of his presentation so there is no reason for you to be jealous. He's just the Discovery Channel of Souls lore. I study science and I loathe that channel as I can't find any real science there. I'd rather watch you cogitate over game lore in your bedroom for a half hour rather than watch a Vaati video because there's clearly a thinking mind at work here.
The live stream sounds cool and hopefully I can catch it if you decide to do it. I'm certainly looking forward to reading the updated Paleblood Hunt when I have the time. Thank you. Good luck to you and I'll see you when I see you.

As someone who DID watch the start of the video, it's great to see you get your motivation back. I'm a writer myself, and I've always said that if you don't write for yourself, you shouldn't write for anyone.
With that said, great hypothesis as always! I'll say it anyway because I like making my approval heard. As for things I've always wondered about, there have been a few things that just don't seem to... Fit with anything else in Bloodborne. For instance, the Chapel Dweller. Who IS this guy? WHAT is this guy? What does he want? Where did he come from? Seriously, this is probably my number one question that I just can't seem to get anywhere with. Did he write the note in the adjoining room? If so, what "lost master" is Rom keeping from him-- from "us"? Who is us? None of it makes sense, and The Paleblood Hunt didn't mention him at all, as I recall. The only thing I could come up with was that he was possibly a Great One in disguise. Your thoughts on this would be MOST appreciated.

Fame all too often starts to feel like a burden as opposed to a blessing, I would think. Imagine everywhere you went you always had people coming up to you, wanting to talk to you, get a picture with you, tell you how much they love you etc. It would get really annoying after a while having to plan ahead of time for yourself to enjoy basic privacy and you couldn't easily get annoyed at your fans either because after all they are adoring you. I think we may tend to take our common anonymity for granted because for most of us it's all we'll ever know. I don't think I mind not being in the spotlight though and perhaps you wouldn't either if you experienced what the other side was like. Anyway you have great content RedGrave! HOLLOW: So...what're vermin?

It's been two years I dunno if you will read this now. I just discovered your Paleblood Hunt work and this channel. Let me tell you three things. 1) Your essay is awesome, your thorough lorehunting and keen writing about that beautiful game Bloodborne is actually felt "orgasmic", no joke, it made me feel so good, and I'm so thankful for you having brought this brainchild of yours into the world; 2) In regard to your comment about jealousy/paranoia/plagiarism, let me say, using Vaati as an example, that you shouldn't feel that way, because you know, Vaati's work is not exactly lorehunting (or goes beyond that), hei s a communicator, an "youtuber" and he is damn good at this, beautiful voice, awesome video edit, cool video script (could you, honestly, match his channel's level of quality, youtube-wise? I don't think so and there's nothing wrong with that)... your work helps him, sure, but only in the sense that a treecutter helps a paper box maker, and I say this not to demean your importance, just that your work has two dimensions to it, one that exhausts itself in its lorehunt purpose and essay writing, and another that transforms it into a feeding block to other works; and 3) I hope you are feeling psychologically better now, and I hope, really hope with all my heart, that you get to lorehunt again with Bloodborne 2.

I think there is a...merit, of sorts, in saying that you do things for your own sake. You create content because you want to, and for that very reason, this content is genuine. You making videos for the sake of your viewers is commendable, yes, but by definition, it implies that you are creating it for a reason external from yourself. In a way, it is less genuine.
Redgrave, I'm a recent subscriber of yours, and I didn't press that red button for you. I did it for myself. Because I think your videos is valuable for me in varying degrees. Speaking purely from a viewer's perspective, I can arrogantly say that my intentions are genuine because of that. And I think it's a beautiful thing to have.
But, well, it's not my place to tell you to do anything. You do what you want to do. Because I really want the relation between you and your viewers to remain as something based off of honesty. I think I'm not alone in saying that we believe in whatever you do.

Could we talk a little about Beast's Embrace, and why Laurence of all people has it? The Church was clearly against embracing beasthood. That's why Izzy is a heretic. And why the clerics of the Church turn into such large and twisted beasts when they finally succumb. Also, speaking of Izzy, with the introduction of the Harrowed Hood in the DLC, is that further "proof" that the Suspicious Beggar is Izzy? I mean, harrowed...heretic of the church...hunter...

Here's a question a little more in line with your series title: what is up with the antlers/horns/tusks of Cleric Beasts? The Cleric Beast has them. Vicar Amelia has them. Laurence has them. And the Beast-Possessed Soul and Loran Clerics also have them. And three out of five of those wield fire, which beasts typically fear/are weak to... I imagine this is all connected to how the clerics resist beasthood through sheer willpower alone. Or maybe this is somehow related to the magic they all (minus the original Cleric Beast) wield?
