Great tutorial video, John. As ALL your videos are very clear and easy to follow. When our weather permits here in Illinois, I am readying myself to change the Coolant, replace the Fuel Filter, and Transmission Filter. Oil Change was completed last Fall. The season is getting closer. RIde On.......Enjoy. Thanks again.
Thanks John. Just got my "new"2018 Ltd and am busy checking and topping fluids. On the subject of plastic pushpins and their gromments, spray some white litium grease on the grommets to allow the pins to insert and part easily. Works a treat.
I just replaced the rear tire, brake pads, oil and one upper ball joint. Next is the air filter, brake fluid coolant and front tires. 23k miles of smiles!
Very nice video John I have learn a lot . I have just purchased a Spyder rt limited and your videos have been so helpful. Im wanting to get it ready for spring soon. Thanks
Look for the fuel filter on the right hand side of the RT. According to the maintenance manual it is located on the fuel line by a hose from the fuel tank.
Love your channel. I am about the same age as you with hopefully about the same mechanical ability as you. You might be a little more confident than me though LOL. I have a 2013 with the 998 motor, so not sure how similar the maintenance would be. However, your video sure give me a good start. Thanks again from Canada. Still waiting for Spring.
Practice Practice Practice. I have to say I learned a lot form working on my own airplanes (under the direct supervision of a friend who was also an FAA certified Mechanic.) Even to the point of pulling the engines apart several times. It was much cheaper than having my a local shop do it.
998 motor quite different but if you take your time it's do able. The oil change was a bit of a challenge, didn't do an air filter change I think that is well hidden on top of the motor. Did front brakes but not rear as there is a ride sensor for the rear suspension, wow did I say easy maybe not.
Very informative video. I would humbly suggest using a cheap, Amazon sourced push pin removal tool as a much more efficient way to remove those pesky push pins. Learned this after my son wrecked his Honda CBR250R and had to remove handfuls of pins when I replaced all the damaged panels. Thanks to you and Miriam for reminding those of us who are older the importance of being screened for skin cancer. It's such an easy thing to do to prevent a very avoidable tragedy.
John, I thought when you change the coolant, that you need to make sure that you don't have any air pockets in the system? Shawn Smoak mentioned that in one of his videos. Just checking. I have a 2020 RTL I did my first oil change myself but not the coolant yet because I only have 3400 miles on it. Great video John!
For removing the mirrors, have you considered the SlingMod mirror magnets? That was one of the first upgrades I made, the other being the key cover to allow me to put the key on a ring instead of the little cap. I will have to do the oil change in a few months, so I will be watching that video soon. I see that you have the K&N filter, is that the one that you clean, re-oil, and re-use like the ones in the cars (which I LOVE!)?
Sorry if this a repeat. Ray and Linda from Ocala Fl. Would love to join you guys Over the 4th of July. Have you decided where on the skyline you’ll be staying.
Thanks John, I'm like you like to tinker and do my own maintenance, this gives me hope to be able to do the 2019 maintenance when required. On the push pins I've seen white silica grease used. Why did you go with K&N filter was it the OEM specific?
Should be a youtube video on how to use a flashlight, holding it to the side of the container. It lights up the inside and you can see the coolant through the plastic.
The fuel filter should be located to the right and forward of the ignition switch. You need to remove the tank cover panel to access the filter. Caution the fuel system will/maybe pressurized.
Hay John, I suspect its just behind the Fuonk, on mine (1330 engine) just remove a small panel on the right side between the Frunk and head light assembly.
hello sir, what type of cellphone holder is that. Also my temperature needle is always at the top minium red line right before overheating, any suggestion on why that is.
Good info..I saw you used OEM coolant...was this the 2 year or longer coolant...mine looks to be a pinky color...are there any after market coolants as good?
Really not foolishness if you are not able to ride a 2 wheeler and enjoy the wind in your face. But like any "toy" it has its perks, or quirks. Be it good or bad to keep it going. Nothing is maintenance free. We do what we do.......to ride and enjoy the great outdoors. Ride On!
I rode a 2 wheeler for 18 years, I’m 69 and have bad knees and back. I want to keep riding and the Spyder is a welcome alternative. A lot of HD riders seem to think that HD is the only bike worth having, to each his own.
John, I don't need a Service Manual to work on my Spyder...I have YOU ! Your tutorials are Awesome !

great video just a suggestion get magic mirrors from lamonster garage makes mirror removal and install very easy

Good idea, thanks
Do you know how to adjust the belt tension without any special tools? Love the videos!
I do, its called a "cricket". Also, once you get used to it, you can just feel to insure its close.
Great for trips.
Also I'd like Canam to go standard on fasteners and quick release pins/ screws for the fairings.
It would be nice

I did, but now I forgot how I did it,,,, I must be getting old. coolant level is still fine..
my wife went threw the same cancer thing today . dr told her its very commen so shes waiting for the next step.
Thanks for the good information 😊

Saw some post that they can mess up instrument readings,,, I may upgrade.
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog We have a 2017, haven't seen any indications that anything is different.
You would think could come up with a better design to get to your air filter like a flip panel door
Sorry if this a repeat. Ray and Linda from Ocala Fl. Would love to join you guys Over the 4th of July. Have you decided where on the skyline you’ll be staying.
No worry's Ray, Leaning towards Big Meadows. they have some rooms at the main lodge with rooms that overlook the valley,,, we did that last year.

It was a Lamonster recomendation, good idea on the silica, need to get some,
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog I am new to Spyder ownership. I see by your licence plate you are in Virginia. I am in Chesterfied, how can I talk to you?
@@RogDawg Just shoot me a Facebook message.
here in florida , we tend to be a little lazy about maintenance just because we ride all the time. Time for "us" to be more dutiful
I always record all your Maintenance videos for future reference. Question: Does this filter require a coat of oil prior to installation? Thanks John
The K&N filter comes pre oiled.
The one in the kit does not, its not a screw on like car filter which I would lube before installing. it just sets snuggly into the receiver.
I have a 2013 rt-s spyder and can't figure out how to see how much coolant is in there.

Thank you, I am going to do a Fall maintenance, will get it then.
Coolant reservar location on a 2011 Can AM Spyder RTS-SE5 ... where is it located and which panels need to be removed. Pictures please if available.
Hay John, I suspect its just behind the Fuonk, on mine (1330 engine) just remove a small panel on the right side between the Frunk and head light assembly.
How could you tell if you had put in enough coolants?
hello sir, what type of cellphone holder is that. Also my temperature needle is always at the top minium red line right before overheating, any suggestion on why that is.
We use a RAM mount, That sounds like an engine issue, let a tech look at is.
Hi...any issues with air in the cooling system after the coolant change? Did you use a flush first or not?
No, and I was concerned about that. I had that happen when I did the flush on my SUV. I just drained and refilled. works good
Good info..I saw you used OEM coolant...was this the 2 year or longer coolant...mine looks to be a pinky color...are there any after market coolants as good?
did you also change the transmission. filter oil change at 40000 km the part in quebec is around 120$
That is a good price
Where does the skinny hose from the reservoir go?
which reservoir?,
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog the coolant reservoir.
What is the service manual you are using?
I downloaded the BRP manual.
How many miles did the air filter have on it and did it look dirty?
It must have been the lighting, it looked ok from my view. It had 23,000 on the filter.
i livee in a hot country and i find it gets very hot on legs when im stopped , was thinking of water free gel coolant, anyone any thoughts? thanks
I just got one. Its awaiting some hot weather for a test and a video review.... Take care
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog Thank look forward to it, the Canam rep, here in Cyprus east meditterranean tends toward Canam policies and directives.

i meant the transmission filter a little piece in plastic
Now you got me worried. I need to go back and look.
Ok
