      You're right, but for my opinion, it is not enough space to load plates. You have soon to load 10kg/22lbs plates when you like to go heavier and this sucks, when you like to do dumbell presses for example.

    • @dr.radloffschannel5854
      @dr.radloffschannel5854 3 года назад +4

      Disagree. The slop is exponentially annoying on various DB movements unlike a BB that is only going horizontal and plate slop is less pronounced

    • @rodolfomedini9931
      @rodolfomedini9931 3 года назад +1

      @@dr.radloffschannel5854 as Coop suggested the slop would be minimized by tighter tollarence plates. In terms of loading and unloading it makes more sense from a timing perspective and where the weights are in relation to your body a safety perspective. You have twice the amount of sleeves to load and unload compared to a barbell so it would save time. With regards to safety dumbbell weights are closer to your body if there was a collar sliding off the weight would have a greater likelihood of making impact with the user compared to a barbell weight.

  • @Hovisish
    @Hovisish 3 года назад +48

    the best solution i can come up with to solve the slop is buy or cut yourself a few different thicknesses of rubber o-rings and use those between plate and collar. the company should consider including some out of the box, too, seems like an easy way to fix the only real problem with their product.

    • @JamesPhillipsOfficial
      @JamesPhillipsOfficial 3 года назад +6

      Yeah, rubber O ring would solve the issue. Because rubber is tough but also a bit spongy. Also helps to take diameter measurement of your plates, and the clip spacing so you know where the clip locks in

Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.

    Loved your 1st video on the Olympic Bar and when I saw the Dumbbell, I HAD TO ORDER it! And because of this video I did.. My logic: I have all the plates (Over 700lbs of plates), and this would essentially replace a FULL rack of Dummbells which could be in the price range of $5K+ for a good set like IronGrip with Rack. So $438 W/ Tax.. to me, it's worth it.. but I agree if I had to do place on my knee for bench and putting them back on the ground maybe a task.. but I'm thinking I could just have the weight hit my lap then place it on the ground

    Of all the equipment that I have tried or tried to get during this time, dumbbells been one of my struggles since I did not want to spend the money or space on a lot of regular dumbbells.
    If the Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells were not only available through a lottery system I would almost certainly prefer those to either the Rogue or Gungnir adjustable handles.
    However I did pre-order these dumbbell handles when I saw them in this and the other video.
    1) The price? The Rogue stainless steel DB-15 plus collar is $185 so about $30 for a total price difference for two. I do not find this too big of a price difference given some of the features I like. I do agree though that $499 would be excessive.
    2) The shorter length than the DB-15? That is a feature in my opinion. I own 2 of the stainless steel DB-15 and they are just too darn long. In two of the key movements I like Dumbbells for, double curls, and double overhead press, the 20.5" total length of the DB-15 means that the dumbbells are always hitting each other. The Gungnir are 18.42" in length which should help a lot in using these bars for me.
    Go with the DB-10 you say? The loadable length on those 3.65" sleeves is only 2.15", is crazy short. I have no idea why they are so short. Especially given there is another product, the DB25-10 with a decent 2.5" loadable length. Here is the problem, the DB25-10 has a 25mm handle. I have fairly average hand size and I find these uncomfortably small diameter. Especially if I have been beating my hands up on other lifts that session. I just do not understand why Rogue does not combine the DB25-10 sleeve and the DB10 handle to make a usable adjustable dumbbell in the 15-70lb range (assuming .75" 10LB iron plates like those from REP Fitness).
    3) You can fit less plates? This is not as big an issue for me. I am happy with lighter weights for chest press, and I have other options, like landmines and barbells for rows if I want to go above 125lbs since I can still fit 122lbs per dumbbell. It will be a while for me before a 244lb bench press for one rep would not be an amazing day, let alone a dumbbell press at a combined 244lb.
    4) Now I do have a concern about the loose fit. However the REP Fitness iron plates are much tighter fit so I expect a lot less slop overall than those CAP plates in the review.
    Anyway I am taking a chance that these will be the loadable dumbbells for me when they ship hopefully in June.

      I simpy got the ironmasters and didnt need to pay for the db15 and the gungnir which is completely unnecessary

    • @terrencemartin2621
      @terrencemartin2621 Год назад

      @@Natural.Crusader I posted this 2 years ago, at the time I was making my purchases, probably a year prior to this post, there was nothing simple about getting Ironmaster products, like their adjustable dumbbell. I specifically mention this in my comment.
      "If the Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells were _not_ only available through a lottery system I would almost certainly prefer those to either the Rogue or Gungnir adjustable handles."
      I purchased my first DB-10 and DB-25 adjustable dumbbells from Rogue. This was due to them being available, barely. The IronMaster was suffering apparently much worse from supply and production issues related to the pandemic. Since I had not been successful in winning a chance to purchase their product I had to go another direction. I also did not want to pay extremely inflated prices that resellers were asking for other adjustable dumbbells.
      Once I already had the DB15 and DB25s I also purchased additional compatible plates to go along with them. I then sold the DB-10s, for a bit of a profit, and pre-ordered the Gungnir to get access to the significant discount. 2+ years on and I still am very happy with them and they serve me well.
      Overall today my dumbbell problem is pretty much solved with the combination of the adjustable ones I own, and a few select urethane coated professional fixed dumbbells.
      The great thing is, if you take care of them, this equipment basically lasts forever. Now, if I was to start from scratch today I would almost certainly go other directions, but then this is nearly 2024, not mid 2020 to end of 2021.

The only other real comparison to the Gungnir are the Muscle Motion Spinlocks: gymdirect.com.au/products/spin-lock-olympic-dumbbell-han

    The first time i saw this i was like " WOW , I AM NOT IMPRESSED " and seeing it again i have to say I am still not impressed !
    It is a gimmick , but unlike most gimmicks this one comes with a price ! And THE PRICE OF THIS GIMMICK IS TOO DAMN HIGH! And when you add all the other cons onto that price it just makes no sense !
    I love adjustable dumbbells , i have adjustable dumbbells and adjustable dumbbells that use Olympic plates are just dumb , the rattle too much , you have so much wasted space at the end , they stab my thighs and quads every time i try to use them to do bench .
    The ones that use the weird weights with the small hole are superior ! You cannot use the weights on other machines , but because they use a big nut to tighten everything there is no rattle .They are smaller but still stab your leg when you want to kick them up for a bench . You can realistically load them ,which is to say that i can make it up to 90 ish pounds while still being a useful size .
    Yeah you can load more weight on the Olympic style one ,but can you really use it if you put a 45 pound plate on it or even a 35 ? HECK even the 25 pound plates are too big when they are that close to your wrist. Realistically the biggest plate you can use on an Olympic style dumbbell without limiting your mobility and range of motion is a 10 pounder , so you will need to have 8x 10 pound plates .
    Do you have 8 x 10 pound plates in your gym right now ? Well better go get some cause those are the ones you are going to be using if you want to load that dumbbell ! And that is for just one

  • @LTPottenger
    @LTPottenger 3 года назад +1

    The price is good for what you get the roque with the collars is about the same. But I would prefer a good one inch loadable dumbbell which makes much more sense for doing heavy presses and rows. And it does not have enough length on the sleeves.

  • @AS-uy9gn
    @AS-uy9gn 3 года назад

    The issue with dumbbell bench press and resting the dumbbells on the thigh is to rest the plate on the thigh and not the end of the dumbbell. If your dumbbells have collars with a tension bar then that needs to be on the outside when you pick up the dumbbells so that the weight doesn't come down and rest on the bar/thigh.

    I was so excited for these since I need to get some home gym equipment and waited for the pre-order page to launch. That was an ordeal in and of itself because the page didn't launch when expected. I loved the idea of them for all of the same reasons Coop does.
    But after really thinking about it, my apartment living self would just be better off buying a set of bands, so that's exactly what I did.

    If you put a 1/4" foam rubber washer on the inside of the handle in front of the plates, it would compress when you put the collar on and take up all of that slack.

  • @richardmather1906
    @richardmather1906 3 года назад

    Funny, the ordinary spin lock has one advantage over these. Its easier to rest them on the legs for bench. With the spinlock, you can put a few washers or spacers on there so that the collar sits flush on the handle. Then you rest the collar on your legs.
    The "side of the plates on the knees" thing works as a substitute but it a bit awkward.

  • @baaittyy

    price wise its.pretty.close to a pair of db15+oso collars with tax shipping etc which is what I did last year. Of course you need plates but those are relatively cheap, and it replaces an entire rack of regular dbs which are a lot more these days. Particularly with shipping, storage and the add on sets to reach the weights something like this will handle.

    Gungnir, if your watching please add a piece of rubber on to the inside end of the collar, the compression of the rubber can make up for the "slop" as garage gym reviews puts it, and it will dampen the noise so i wont wake up my kids. You can also make it thinner since its not holding nearly enough weight, and even possibly thinner groves to have a tighter fitment. have you thought about a one groove design? with half the weight being able to be put on the bar two notches going into two grooves is a bit overkill. i know this can affect manufacturing processes but if you dont do it someone else will

  • @stephenpaice540
    @stephenpaice540 3 года назад

    Is the manufacturer going to have tight tolerance plates?
    It would make it perfect then.
    It would take much for them to machine the outside centre to be the perfect size to be snug with the clip thickness?

  • @ChristianOhlendorffKnudsen

    These look very good, the only reason I haven't bought loadable dumbbells for my home gym yet, is that I'm trying to be as space efficient as possible, so I was looking for an option that would allow me to do skullcrushers with them, this is definitely that!
    The price is a bit steep (370 EUR with shipping to Germany), but once I've renovated the basement, I'll definitely take another look at these.
    I'm pouring my own plates, so also that'll allow me to make plates at the exact thickness I need, and avoid the slop, although, with 108mm for concrete, I'll probably (obviously depending on what diameter I choose to go with) top out around 40kg on the handle, which is probably ok, but not great.

    Quantity has a quality all its own. Dumblers cost $400($399) for a pair, Rogues cost $250 a pair. These are both incredibly nice loadable dumbbells that should exceed anyone's needs and not significantly break down over time, I consider both handles equally perfect. So you're paying $150 for the built in clips on the Dumblers. Rogue OSO collars cost $40 a pair, so they make the Rogue set total $330. Assuming neither break are the Dumbler's worth $70 more than the Rogues+OSO collars?
    If you are ok without Rogue's collars (and/or value money more) it's a much harder question. Metal clips are $5 a piece on Amazon so $400 Dumblers vs $270 Rogues+metal clips. Would you pay $130 more for the Dumblers? Metal clips aren't perfect, although they're good enough for dumbell weights and exercises in my opinion, but you could buy 26 more of them before you equal the Dumblers for price.
    Dang, doing the math makes me wish I could've gotten the Dumblers instead of Rogue's+collars 3 years ago. Especially since I don't like the Rogue OSO collars and the Dumblers look so convenient. My #1 concern was longevity, but the amount of abuse shown in this review (and my low weights) puts that to rest.
    If Garage Gym Reviews could hook us up with a discount, and a corresponding affiliate bonus for himself, I would be extremely tempted to make the effort to sell my Rogue's and upgrade. Or more realistically just buy the Dumblers, keep saying I intend to sell the Rogue's, and do all the insane 4 loadable dumbell super sets I can imagine.
