You inadvertently cleared up my queries on those intercooler pipe clamps! Such a genius idea!
Former 964 owner and man do I miss it. Really can appreciate what you're doing with this and not only that but I love watching build videos on their way to completion :D
pssst, don't upset the car gods by getting anything GM near that car! :P
So close! I'm dying to see this car on the road, as are you I'm sure Pete!
+doctorlobsteroctopus I literally can't wait!!
Cannot wait to see this completed!!
My heart sank when he said he was putting in an ls
Jamie Roberts I
Love how precise you guys work. Cant wait to see it in the car !!
Great vid as always, looking forward to seeing how it does and first impressions driving it again.
can't wait to see this thing run!
There are COPs with integrated drivers.
No need for external coil drivers.
THIS IS BLASPHEM-oh.
Can't wait for the final video!!
Turbokraft seems like such an amazing place, i always see youtubers get their cars built in such honest places and people who have alot of knowledge in what they do and i check where it is and its usually in another state :c
+VideosAreDrugs Well cars come in from all over the country to TurboKraft so if you ever want to have work done there, ship it!
with that thumbnail i was like "oh no! something did go wrong with the turbos and the engine exploded or something" hahaha
"because it's gonna be awesome" great way to end the episode. Thanks
I almost booked a ticked to Canada, just to burn the 930 to the ground, when you said you were gonna LS-swap it hahaha!Nice work again, engine looks so clean and neat :3
Pete's in Arizona with the Porsche I think lol but I would've done the same
ah I thought he had returned!Well,I would hunt him down anyway haha
Brooks Yarbrough oh nice!
@ 16:15 I was waiting for him to mention the starter ring gear and that he forgot it while putting the pressure plate bolts
Thanks again for showing what Chris @ Turbokraft does. Good guys to have around to make that aircooled horsepower :^)
+JasonDTM They're awesome indeed!
ok from leadfoot motors you can run the Aluminum flywheel you gust have to drill and tap and install steel set screws
Looking good! Can't wait to see it rip again! :D
Loving the progress fellas. Fantastic to see how the inner workings of a shop like this actually functions.
Making me want a Porsche more and more...
I've been sitting here watching as new powder coated parts are being installed, ontop of original non painted parts.
My OCD going over drive watching as the engine is being rebuilt without any of the block or heads being painted or polished.... Along with the fan shroud staying in original red with all the new powder coated parts ontop.
Is there a reason that it's being left in this way? Are you looking for a sleeper original aged appearance? Or is it down to time??
Hi guys, love your vids!
Since you're at a specialized Porsche Shop, could you please post a video explaining the world famous Porsche 996 1999-2004 IMS Bearing fix?
Thank you for the great education and entertainment!
love the series !
as always I am enyoing this porsche series
A bit late but still.. Cool project ! I wonder which coils you used on the spark plugs ?
It came out pretty nice and clean! Can't wait to hear it...BOOST!
I love this channel.
+Charles Shamseldin Thanks!
More Porsche videos, Pete!
loved the joke at the begining :D LS in everything is the trend nowadays
What kind of cost to expect for such a rebuild? Can't wait till next episode to see how much power it will make...
Have you thought about switching to a 5 or 6 speed transmission? I know the factory 4 speeds are bulletproof but not exactly ideal for everyday driving compared to the 5 speed
+Drue The 1987-89 Carrera 5-speed is a truly fantastic transmission for fun street driving, with updated synchros and much more precise shifting. However, it is too long to bolt into the 1976-88 930 chassis and must be modified (shortened), plus a different clutch, different pedal box assembly, shifter & linkage, clutch hydraulic system (converts from cable to hydraulic actuation), and finally 1976-86 930s need a 2nd set of mounts welded into the chassis. Not a quick or inexpensive conversion.
The 6-speed transmissons are longer still and require extensive & expensive chassis modifications. The gears are thinner so they cannot take as much torque. Plus, 6 is often too many gears for a Turbo with a lot of torque, you end up shifting too much.
Are you still going to test and compare the two turbo's?
Binge watched this whole series after stumbling upon an episode, great stuff! When its all said and done can we get a tally of the hours put in and what a build like this costs for others looking to have this done? Looking forward to the rest of the series!
+Taylor Wilson Cost on this is all depending on the condition of the engine being rebuilt but you can expect to spend 15-40K depending on what needs to be done and the parts that you want to use/replace.
+Speed Academy Good to know, thanks!
cool series
Nice build. Race the Badass2000 and your porche......just for fun
this! :)
And for scientific purposes.
i wonder if it would work to cut the ring of sensors off the old flywheel, and machine the new flywheel to accept it
Will the ECU that you are using produce trouble codes?
I can't imagine how much $$$ you spent on this engine! Very professional service center.
Add a ring gear to aluminium flywheel for crank signal.
do it!!!!!! couple turbos
I've been watching your videos and find everything it to be very informative. Live in Japan at the moment and I own a 1987 930 (The old girl is here with me as well) but looking forward to an engine rebuild/ EFI install when I get back to the U.S. I remember the first video pertaining to the 930 prior to bringing it to Turbokraft you had a issue shifting into 2nd gear. Did you ever sort that out? Lastly you got me when you opened up with the LS-swap.......I was thinking" are you kidding???!!!" but hey its your car. Any way thanks for the great footage.
+Charles “Nasa One” Jenkins The transmission rebuild videos are on deck so you'll see that there were some worn parts that needed relpacing.
All these hate comments about an ls swap make me want to do one
So are roller rockers not available for these?
Nice, I assume you balanced crank, rods and pistons?
+jim dandy Correct, everything was balanced.
Nice!
That ls swap would be nice, and less expensive for maintenance.
+jim jones We've got a friend doing one so we'll be shooting a bunch of videos on it.
I wish the SR20 motor was that easy to do valve lash... I just had my SR20DET head redone and the way Nissan designed the hydraulic lifter setup is interesting to say the least.
+Mark Coleman How do you adjust lash on a hydraulic lifter? Correct me if Im wrong but thats the whole point of the lifters. They take up the slack.
+Speed Academy You would think. The SR20 does have hydraulic lifters but each rocker arm has a shim in between it and the lifter. The shim clearance is something like .001" (don't quote me on that). So you need specialized tools and a selection of shims just to do a valve job on this motor. There aren't very many shops that will touch these heads. And the rockers are the common weak point, hence the aftermarket aide of rocker stoppers.
how is the turbo cooled on this build? does it have its own radiator cooling system? or just uses the oil to cool it?
+Caleb Weir oil cooled.
I thought you were serious about the LS swap for a moment then!
God damn it Pete nut
Give it some time, but you may end up hating that Kevlar disc material.... Let me know how it goes.
+unijabnx2000 So far its been great!
+Speed Academy If you dont beat on it all the time you shouldnt ever have an issue. I drove the piss outta mine...street, drag, & mexico. The disc would hold so much heat in it, everything went soft and I had to baby it until it cooled off; then it became normal again.
if you want to put an LS1 into a 911, you can sacrifice a 996 for that. you gotta keep air-cooled engines in air-cooled porsches
+dufftime Very true, Renegade makes swap kits!
The cost of this build seems like it would be ridiculous
I love engine swaps, but what makes a Porsche special are the engines. That would be absolute sacrilege to install another engine, especially an LS.
👌 Quality troll. That thumbnail... not gonna lie, I was triggered 😂
That vibrant clamp needs a half inch gap between them cause they need room for movement.
It's working just fine and there is a bit of a gap after final mounting.
Speed Academy oh ok sweet
And love the car man.
Foot-pounds still in use? I thought the world had moved to newton metres?
Foot pound are used for smaller bolts
+Vicente lerdo inch pounds are for small bolts foot pounds are larger bolts. It is still used in the US I've never done Newton meters and not sure if my torque wrenches even read it
Yes. Here in the sates everything is in foot pounds or inch pounds, my torque wrench is calibrated only in foot pounds,.
0:05 tha fuck u scared me for a second, a valid question, do u have to place engine on exact positions to do valve lash ajustments or just relieve tension of it?
+Felipe Kauer You put a piston at TDC to take tension off the rockers and then adjust both intake & exhaust valve lash. Rotate the crankshaft 120deg so the next one is at TDC and repeat until done.
Good luck with the spec clutch, One of the dampening Springs popped out after 5k miles... Never will i buy a spec clutch.
I nearly fainted man
But if you are going to have no use for that engine...
I've got a few ideas for it ;)
You got me there lol
Why isn't the fuel pressure sensor on the pressure/engine side?
+Chris Stavro It's at the regulator which is just as accurate.
How much is a Engine Rebuild with EFI Conversion from these guys?
Probably around 60K.
11:20 Panda Trueno Porsche :D
I almost had a heart attack when he said he’s going to LS swap.
Honestly an LS 911 would be kinda cool ngl
+Owen Cordes We've got a friend building an old 911 LS swapped Porsche so we'll document the build.
no knock sensor?
thought the gearbox was a 5sp
German cars = pains in the arse to repair/rebuild yet the MOST satisfying
12:00 oh baby . No body likes a lackey rim.....seal.
Hi - how much was the whole build?
+MKI4EVA probably $20K+
+eeterp32 haha, much much more! i would guess deep in the 50k$
Why would people give this a thumb down???
There's always a few haters!
I wanna see the bill for this build after it's all said and done...
+MrDruaboyea2U Around 30K with everything all in.
That Porsche with the LS engine will be quicker than the Porsche 930. The LS engine is lighter, more economical, better gas mileage and more reliable as well.
At first. I was like OH NOOOO
I'm pretty sure you guys are secretly Canadian coke ring leaders. It's the only explanation.
what a grubby trans housing after all that clean build???
lol
at least clean the trans housing and starter!!
You guys almost got a thumbs down with that LS funny business at the start.
Scared me at first. Lol
Gonna put my flame suit on and say nothing wrong with an LS motor
it's 4am. wtf am i doing? !
"Oh, finally a Prosche with a proper engin- oh, it was just a joke".
Should have swapped it.
I agree that would have been better.
62 foot pounds! lol
