I've been building my RV-8 for the last 5 years. It has been quite an emotional ride, to a point that sometimes I think I will never complete it and should sell it. Then I always come to the conclusion that I have one life to live, one dream to achieve whatever time and $$ it will take. The thought of "giving away" my labor of love, my sweat and my blood for some else to enjoy makes me go back to work to get it done and flying, someday.... With empennage, wings and fuselage done, I am entering the "planning ahead" phase of my project, therefore your "how to" videos are very much welcome ! I am getting at the end of Van's instruction manual and your videos will be hugely useful !
Congratulations on the sale!!! However, the amount of priceless information that you give us through this channel and the passion you have for aviation is what keeps me coming back!!! You're inspiring to me and I'm sure many aspiring aviator's likely feel the same!!!
Ironically its the fact that the border is closed and a good share of potential buyers are unable to "Buy Canadian" was a big factor in my being able to buy my RV6! Great content! keep it coming :) learning all the time. Nice Kimi hat
I don't have a video of it no sorry. I know the SB calls for safety wire. Shouldn't be an issue if its attached properly and maybe add a dab of fuel sealant to the fitting. But do follow the SB
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 Thanks for the quick reply. As a member of the Vernon Snowflakes (about 11 RVs who fly formation led by John Swallow - Golden Centennaires left wing), I've become a fan of your channel. I hope you'll be able to keep it up when you join your new outfit next year! Bravo Zulu!
I just bought a RV4 that will be delivered mid August. Will follow your RV4 build to learn and hopefully get a few tips and tricks to improve and refine my own plane. You are doing some great work!
Well, on the bright side I'll get to watch you for some tips... I'm building the poor man's (well, in this case the NCM's) RV. I have settled on a scratch build Sonerai 2 Low wing. Power will be a Yamaha Apex set up (150ish hp at roughly the same weight as the original VW 80hp), likely some hoerner wing tips and some form of integrated aux fuel tanks. Aiming for a cruise up near 180mph on 4-5gal/hr. We chatted a bit on an earlier video of yours, I'm the ACS tech at 403 that was planning on a Sonex... But the Sonerai seems to be even more a bang for the buck option... And let's be honest, it looks WAY better.
Shame about selling before any prizes! But there's always another opportunity. I'm just as interested in the building, so keep the VLOGs coming Stu. Cheers
Hi , Just found your channel . Love the videos. Im a aircraft mechanic from southern Alberta and currently building an RV 4 .Would love the drop by for a visit sometime .
Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Lol. It’s been fun following this channel, you and this airplane. Sad to see her go as it was my inspiration as I build my 8. But I’m also looking forward to learning more from you and the process as you complete the 4. Can’t wait to see what you guys do with the 4, the true sportster of the Vans lineup.
I note you are going with a CS in your RV4 project. I have read a lot of opinions on FP v CS for the RV4 and would like to ask for your reasoning to add to the long list of confusion. BTW, thanks for your speedy reply and video follow up on the RV8 heat.
Wow. Mixed emotions, Stu. I love that 8. I can only imagine your emotions during the this sale process. You don't strike me as someone who is troubled by buyer's (or in this case seller's) remorse, so hopefully the pain of selling will be mitigated by your excitement about the 4 project. Is it too early for me to make you an offer on the 4? Oh, and also give you my laundry list of equipment and mission requirements? Ha! Congrats on the sale and I'm excited to see your work moving forward.
Congrats on the sale of the 8. I was looking forward to seeing the paint job you had planned. Perhaps you could still share it with us on an upcoming episode.
Wow, chocking news! I had no idea you were considering selling your little two seater jewel. I would have been a serious contestant for it, wingman! 😉 In any case, congrats on the sell, Stu! I’m a believer that hard work always pays off. I must admit, I am a little sad to see it leaving your channel. But really looking forward to your new RV4 contents! A very interesting topic you touched regarding purchasing a partially completed kit. As you know, I am considering an unfinished RV7 kit from the USA. But my inexperience in kit building and the obvious Covid19 makes it a challenging decision to make at the moment. I’ll keep you posted. Great video as usual and thank you for sharing!
Nice video! I ask you why you’re building a -4 if you have a -8. Isn’t the -8 better as the -4? I always thought so. -4 kit I read is much more difficult to build. Isn’t that right? A friend of mine has a -4. Sold it to build (is ready for the first flight) a -8. Best Regards
Yup the 8 is much easier. I sold the 8 if you watch the later vids. The 4 is a bit smaller and no forward baggage compartment. The 4 seems a bit sportier
Thanks for all the videos. I guess after putting all the work into the 8 it must hard to part with her. I was really looking forward to seeing the aircraft painted. Do you have a sketch of the paint scheme you were planning, or might that end up on the 4?

Yes in some respects. I had an offer on the 8 and took it. The RV4 kit was bought some time ago as a back shelf project. It’s now the front burner project.
I too want to build an RV 4.

Yeah awesome. They’re always hard to sell. Easier when you have another kit ready to go
Hey Stu! I threw a GDU460 in my RV-4... I love it - works wonderfully.
Same here. Sweet install

This video showed a short bit on SB 06-2-23 (safetying of fuel pickup tubes). Do you have a more complete video on this job?

Sweet! Love the Sonerai! One of the first designs I looked at back in 1998. Great airplane. Amazing what they do with them in Reno

Will do for sure
And now you’ll see the true emotion on building one of these instead of the final product.
I'm building an RV7, and am just focused on getting it flying! Can't imagine selling it after all this work - but it is only my first!
Love the shirt! And the voiceover while ripping around in the Tailcam view! Don't forget to add 1/4" rods everywhere on the RV-4!
Already planned. And I can pipe Garmin camera into the GDU460 :).

Looking forward to seeing the progress on the RV-4. Personally, I like the "how to" videos as much or more than the flying videos.
