I find the OG more fitting because, unlike the others who all have unique backgrounds music pertaining to their personalities, she only has circus and church music because those are the only two things she knows about herself
Somehow, this gives me the mental image of Jane Doe in a church desperately praying to God for answers as to who she is, only to be heartbroken to receive no answer.
someone pointed this out in a comment section the other day: Jane’s song is the only song to have a choir-y vibe to it, and the background music is kinda carnival-y because all she knows is choir and carnival
POV: you're at the the funeral for the choir and you hear this while listening to eulogy. You ask around and people just think you're f***ing insane or something.
I feel like she’d slowly walk down the middle of a very big beautiful cathedral till she gets to the for every eternity Jane doe where she’ll stop and stand at the front of the church / stage
The high notes repesenting her screams, knowing she was decapitated (possiible due to the tracks or shrapel), and the fact that she was cosious for at least 10 seconds after decpatation.
sometimes when im writing short stories i think i have the plot all figured out and its perfect. and then a song appears in my recommended and now i guess i have to change the entire plot because inspiration mugged me at a street corner because of a song edit from a musical ive never listened to or heard of
Did you know that a decapitated head remains conscious for 30-40 seconds after decapitation? So she had to listen to all of her "friends" dying and having to live through the pain.
It’s even worse than that. Studies have shown that we still might feel pain for the first 10 seconds of being decapitated, and then possibly losing consciousness soon after. However, our brain may still be alive for up to 10 minutes (being generous af) afterwards, just unconscious. And we don’t even know how our subconscious really works either, as it’s very complex. Her brain could still be processing things while not even technically working.
Also the fact when everyone appeared at the same time in the beginning, she arrived later than the others. So that means she didn’t fully die till she went on stage. ☹️☹️
I did watch a recording of this musical, but for some reason the only song I can really remember is Noel's Lament, and I can't even *recognize* the ballad of Jane Doe unlike the other songs, so this was like listening brand new.
2:06 to 2:11 is my favorite piano number. I don’t know why but it sounds the best, it goes up and then down like how the roller coaster did. Like her head did.
[LYRICS ! ! !] [Jane:] Some might say we're released Pushing daisies, deceased But we all know the worms must be fed There's just one lingering fear Oh my soul, is it here? Oh Saint Peter, let me in! You must know where I've been Won't you tell me at last who I am? Who I am Who I am Who I am Who I am Ooh... Ooh... Ahh... Ahh... ah And from the ground, beneath my feet I hear the anguish of the street [Choir:] A choir never complete [Jane:] And like an old forgotten tune A song that no one knows... [Choir:] A melody floats through the air When silence falls, does no one care? Jane Doe
I just played this for my guinea pig since I’ve never really played musical theater music for her…safe to say, she loved it. I haven’t seen her that comfortable in so long!
POV:There was this old church that nobody ever went to some say it was because there was no use to it anymore others say cause there was an old sad soul stuck there of course only an idiot would venture this place...But did you care? No of course you didn't, so that's where you currently are in this old abandoned church it was dusty, the church pews definitely haven't been sat in for a while you had looked around for a while for funsies well it was fun until this song started playing the room got cold the soul sounded sad singing in a tone as if she didn't understand why she died 0:02
ayo happy year and a day anniversary to one of the best versions of this song. been listening to this exact version for a minute until i noticed the 1 year ago was new!
I think the contrast is since everyone els knew who they were it was about themself but since all wre know about Jane doe is she used to be in the choir that's why its the only one like a choir it's all we have of her
It’s from a musical called “Ride The Cyclone” and the show is about 6 choir members dying in a rollercoaster crash and then fighting to see who gets to be brought back to life. It’s very good (and very funny) and I highly recommend it! But this song is about Jane Doe (the only unknown member of the choir) lamenting about how unfair it is that no one knows who she is, since she lost her head in the accident.
The explanation in RTC was that because she lost her head she lost a lot of memories of when she was alive, kind of similar to a lot of mythologies where a person has to remain in one piece to get to the afterlife or remember their past life
I think their "memories" are tied to the narrator having met them before dying. He never met Jane, so he doesn't know and, therefore, she doesnt either
The church organ and “I’m asking WHY, lord?” sounds more fitting in this kind of setting
PREACHHHH 🗣️🗣️👏👏
