- Hey everyone! This week I sung The Ballad Of Jane Doe from Ride the Cyclone!
Like I said in my community post, chilling and challenging but I like how she turned out. Definitely pushed my comfort zone, but that's a good thing.

Sorry for the late upload! I was travelling today and fell alseep as soon as I got home without setting an alarm. It's a cover thats worth the wait though I think. I appreciate your patience!

Day 16 of asking Anna to make a cover of “Kung Fu Fighting” by CeeLo Green from the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack
:D
its okay!
Not-So fun fact, the high notes are heavily implied to be Jane's screams as she's beheaded on the coaster. This song is so morbidly beautiful.
The dance too, the way she's flailing then falling mimics how she fell on the coaster.
I wonder, how did she lose her head?
@@StarMari120 Roller coaster crash, they got thrown around and I guess at some point she was beheaded.
@@bubblybobabubbles I knew about the roller coaster crash but thx!
@@StarMari120 probably metal pole hit her head
Fun fact: the line “Time eats all his children in the end” is a reference to how Kronos, the god of time in Greek mythology ate all his children.
I was thinking that too when I was watching a video on Jane/Penny
Kronos wasn’t actually a god, he was a Titan. His children were gods.
@just_a-friendly_helper4357
Kronos and Chronos are two different Titans.
The father of the Olympians, Kronos, is the titan of the harvest
Cronos and Chronos are different deities, actually. The former ate his children, the second one is the god of time.
Funnily enough, I've never read the lyrics and thought it always said 'Titan eats all his children in the end'
I love this version of Jane- in the play she simply sounds desperate as she sings.
Here she is frustrated, as if she is facing the fact the choir can’t give her the answers she needs.
She knows she’s human but doesn’t know what being human / alive means.
For the majority of the play, the choir shuns her.
Can’t fault them- she is a waking morbid existential crisis with a human body with a porcelain dolls head.
So the frustration she feels is also wanting to be part of the group, but unable to do so.
Of course she doesn’t realize she is non-verbally communicating her frustration. She is just desperate for a name, and doesn’t realize she is also desperate to not be an outsider.
Which makes the New Birthday Song more impactful-
They can’t give Jane her name but they can make her feel human.
stopppp
you're gonna make me cry
Something I noticed in the play it the fact that no one in the choir calls her Jane Doe.
I think it was sweet that Ricky offered up the name Savannah.
I can't imagine what it must feel like to not know who your are dead or alive the way she wants to know who she is but simply can't remember makes me feel sad for all the Jane and John does that happen In real life dying is one thing but dying and having nobody know who you were is bad to
@@therealopaartistAnd allowed her to be a Savannah with the greenest eyes❤
for those who don't know the story of this character, I'll tell it here (Contains spoilers)
She is part of a musical that tells the story of 6 teenagers who died in an accident on a roller coaster, the corpses of 5 of them were identified, except hers, which was found decapitated, and when the six arrived in the afterlife, they played a game to finally vote on who deserved to come back to life
All the participants in this game have told a little bit about themselves in these songs, but as seen in the song by "Jane", she doesn't remember any information about herself at all, and with that, she wins the game and is given a second chance to live, as everyone else has had a life with memories except her
It ends up having a good ending, where Jane's whole life (who is also revealed to be named Penny) plays on a screen, there she had a good childhood, grew up, got married, gave birth to children, raised a family, worked, aged and passed away peacefully by age, the other 5 characters passed to the afterlife peacefully
In fact, it is a great detail that she is called "Jane Doe", since unidentified corpses are called "Jane Doe" (Female) and "Jhon Doe" (Man)
@@lareselcorrobarrutia6773 yeah, thats what being referenced in the song when she sings "just john and me"
@@con2553 Yep
If she was decapitated, how'd she come back to life?
@@ishouldreallychangemyname948 the guy running the afterlife puts her back in time to right before the accident and she just. doesn’t die this time.
I think this would be Jane if she DIDNT get picked, being angry instead of sad, at first she was just feeling sorry for herself but here in this version she’s FURIOUS SHE was supposed to be chosen but she wasn’t and now she’s asking *WHY LORD* THIS IS NO WAY TO DIE LORD, THIS IS UNFAIR
AND I LOVE THIIIIIS
I love this interpretation so much omg
Something interesting that I loved.
In the original song, nostalgia is felt above all, beyond the middle you can feel the despair, melancholy and sadness of Jane Doe not knowing who she is.
However in this cover I feel more anger, and disappointment, almost like someone demanding justice.
I love the slight difference
YES! It's gorgeous. Instead of being tragic, it's way more angry. She puts her own spin on it, which is great.
Holy crap YES
I thought that too!
Same
Do you know where I can find the original?
Fun Fact: the Japanese version of Jane Doe is Yamada Hanako, with Yamada Taro being the male equivalent.
Uh ok that's nice!
Is that why they chose the name Taro Yamada as Yandere simulator’s senpai?
@@ChoccoMint0 idk maybe
omg-
hanako the bathroom ghost
Brazilian version would be Fulana/Fulano de Tal
the original depicts jane with a creepy haunted doll feel, like a soul trapped in a body it doesnt control. this cover sounds more like someone who has lost their memory and is scared and angry. I love it

Anything with completely black eyes scares me, let alone Anna’s enchanting, scary voice perfectly fitting any ballad. Well done Anna this song certainly sets the halloween mood.
Maybe you don't know where the black eyes come from (if you do, don't bother read what's following, I'm gonna explain the context of the show)
This song is from the musical theater "Ride the Cyclone". Six teens die during a ride in a roller coaster. They end up in the afterlife, with Karnak, a magical creature, that propose them to bring one of them back in life. This character has been decapitated in the accident, and no one found her head. She remains unidentified, and names Jane Doe, as all unidentified female corpses. Even she, in the afterlife, has no idea who she was. She is wearing a doll's head, I don't know exactly why. To be less scary ? To simply talk, hear and see ?
This song is her attempt to prove the other teens SHE deserved to go back to life (she's not selfish, they all have their song). She is lamentating about the pain of not having memories, and not being able to peacefully go to the afterlife, and to be stuck with "John" (Doe. Male corpses)
@@rosae_rosae_rosa ooo woww i never heard of this show before but i found the music through Anna’s cover. Thanks for filling me in
Little fun fact for you! This song is in fact not a ballad, but a lament! Just like how Noel's lament is not a lament, but a Ballad! It's a little reference to one of the other songs, though i don't remember exactly what the character said, it was something along the lines of "singing what they wish to be." This musical is.. very deep
Haven't heard the musical, but for some reason this song made me think of all the missing and murdered women who's names have been forgotten and now I'm sobbing wondering if that's how they felt. Sorry for sharing
Tbh it's not that fee fetched. In the musical Jane is a corpse they found in the accident that since it didn't have a head,no one recognized the body and that no one remember an extra member in the choir she remained unnamed and thus they gave her the name Jane Doe. There's a theory that says that she was murdered by a foster father but it takes into account another musical by the same people and it's not confirmed as true
@@natsukifan8736 I think she was killed by a roller coaster incident. (Atleast that’s what someone said
@@mrkid2451 yeah but some say she was out there at the last moment without documentation and with a fake uniform (that's why nobody knew her even though everyone knows everyone in the town this takes place, because she just came to live there) so when she would die no one would know it
@@mrkid2451 The other kids were. But she remains a mystery, as no one remembers her, that it is in life or afterlife. To understand better, you should watch the show
damn. that seriously does make me feel depressed thinking about it
its hard enough for a soprano do to hit the notes through 3:27, let alone an alto voice! props to you ma’am
Yeah, my voice is very weak in my mid range, actually :,)
I used this recording to try and hit the D6 (the high note) and it took me a few days to hit it at the same time Anna did.

Screaming, crying, throwing down, riding a cyclone, ballading, Jane Doe-ing, rolling down the mountains, Tricking and Treating, harmonizing with myself, screeching in my own dialect of Soprano, adding this to my playlist of music I will play anywhere, you get the idea
LAMOO I love this comment
So relatable
This song is INSANELY difficult to sing, all of the chromatic scales, high notes, change of styles and you nailed it!

Omg YESS love that song to death
Holy crap, I never heard of this musical or song but this has got to be one of the most haunting, somber and strangely beautiful songs I've heard, it's especially haunting with the fact that the name Jane Doe (as well as John Doe) are placeholder names for corpses who can't be identified
Also those high notes *chefs kiss*
It’s from Ride The Cyclone, which is about 6 teens who died in a roller coaster accident. One of them is Jane Doe, who lost her head and the only person who knew who she was died shortly after them. The plot of the show is the teens trying to decide which one of them gets to go back to life. It’s an amazing show, highly recommend tracking down a copy (there’s a few on RUclips) and giving the soundtrack a listen.
Holy cow,Anna. You outdid yourself as always. I never thought a cover of ballad of Jane doe could sound more angelic than the original

@@Axelismeh honestly i kinda agree with the french mole man. Anna is an amazing singer and has proven it again in this cover, but nothing beats the original.

You absolutely *killed* those high notes, Anna!! Even as a soprano I have a tough time hitting all the ones in this song but you did real good. Also absolutely adore this song, so glad to hear you sing it after I've been imagining it for weeks
Someone wrote that the high notes imply that Jane's screams as she was decapitated by the roller coaster (which is true).
I think that those ahs that go from high to low is the actual action of her beheading. Screaming before her voice dies away. Also, love the song
I've heard it said that the original song didn't call for Jane to sing the descending notes, only for the piano to play them. But the actress sang them anyway one day, and the director loved it so much that they changed it to be sung that way. I'm so glad they did it this way!
Anna. Dude. WHAT IS YOUR VOCAL RANGE?? You’ve gone down into lower tenor range before, and you’re singing this soprano song beautifully. How do you exist???! I think only gods can sing like this!
Like the original singer of this song, she has no limit
Well as Anna herself has said... it's tough to be a god
i belive the vocal range would be in the mezzo range
I was listening to this song during a downpour, and as soon as I got to the "why Lord?" I heard thunder, WHAT A PERFECT TIMING
I would absolutely love to see Anna do a cover of Noel's lament. I also very much loved this cover it was hauntingly beautiful!
I agree she'd kill Noel's lament
@@everythingz888 oh most definitely!
Omg YESSSS!!!
I’m just imagining her voice for the priest and it’s gold
AGREED 100%
This has to be one of the best covers of the ballad of Jane doe I really liked how apparent her anger was in the second part
I've never heard of this song or the musical it's from, but I knew just from the title that this was going to be a haunting and gut-wrenching song. You (and the original writers) certainly did not fail to execute on that expectation. Amazing work!
I super recommend it it’s called ride the cyclone and is fully of cleverly written and wonderfully sung songs like this. It’s been a show since the 2010s but I’m so happy it’s finally getting it’s laurels now
I’d recommend watching the musical! The base plot is about 6 teenagers who are in a choir together getting killed in a rollercoaster accident. It’s absolutely haunting at parts and hilarious at others (This Song Is Awesome).
nobody asked but its from a musical called ride the cyclone and the person whos singing was beheaded in a rollercoaster accident, but her head was never found, so the coroner declared her a "jane doe" aka the term for a female with an unknown identity. This song is her in the afterlife singing about her knowing nothing about her life or past.
“I’ve got no celebration”
Omg is this why Ocean wanted to throw her a birthday party?🥹
omg im in tears 😭
0:48 she’s going up the coaster, reaches the top, goes off the rails, crashes down, wakes up as jane doe
I'm so glad Anna decided this song was worth doing another 5 minute cover for! I know she definitely wasn't planning on doing another one after "All You Wanna Do" so I am eternally grateful for this. "The Ballad of Jane Doe" is easily my favorite song from Ride the Cyclone and it fits Anna's voice so well! Thank you so much Anna for taking the time to bring us this absolute masterpiece this October, I'll be listening to it for like a month straight!
OH MY GOD YESSSSSS!!! I WAS HOPING FOR THIS OH MY GOODNESS!!! With this amazing cover from an amazing cover artist I really hope more people will look into the musical and the fandom will grow! Thank you Anna :DDD

When I first saw the community post, like I said I was ecstatic, AND YOU LITERALLY WENT PAST MY EXPECTATIONS AND DID SOMETHING EVEN MORE WONDERFUL WITH MY FAVORITE SONG! I'M SO HAPPY, THIS COVER WILL NOW BE PLAYED ON LOOP UNTIL THE END OF TIME
I like this one better. Everyone has felt the feelings of getting close to something but completely missing it. And the rage and frustration that comes with this. Jane sounding upset is just this but to a greater extent. I like to imagine that in this version of Jane, after hearing everyone’s desires and wishes and life’s, she longs to be part of it as well, but instead of feeling hopeless, she feels human rage.
This cover actually moved me to tears, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything so sad and beautiful. This was really good work, Anna.
Im so happy Ride The Cyclone became trending right after I got into it. This musical deservers way more appreciation and love ✨✨
Also, I love how you did the climax! You made Jane sound way angrier and more emontional than the original, such a good touch
This take on Jane doe sounds more like someone so close to having a life, their somber in their anger over not just loosing it but not getting to even mourn it.
Beautifully done 👏

Some might say we're released
Pushing daisies, deceased
But we all know the worms must be fed
There's just one lingering fear
Oh my soul, is it here?
Or is it rotting somewhere with my head?
Oh my soul oh my soul
Oh my soul oh my soul
Ooh ooh
Ahh ahh ah
Oh no soul, and no name
And no story, what a shame
Cruel existence was only a sham?
Oh Saint Peter, let me in!
You must know where I've been
Won't you tell me at last who I am?
Who I am who I am
Who I am who I am
Ooh ooh
Ahh ahh ah
And from the ground, beneath my feet
I hear the anguish of the street
A choir never complete
And like an old forgotten tune
A song that no one knows forgot how it goes
Just john and me forever eternally, Jane Doe
And I'm askin' why lord
If this is how I die, lord
Why be left with no family and no friends?
Ooh
I've got no celebration
Just this consolation
Time eats all his children in the end
Ahhh
A melody floats through the air
When silence falls, does no one care?
Does anyone care?
Another sad, forgotten tune
Another song that no one knows
So that's how it goes! Just john and me
Forever eternally, Jane Doe
And she's asking "why, lord?"
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why?
"This is no way to die, lord!"
No one to sing, no one to sigh
Now that all is said and done
Isn't there anyone to tell me who I am?
No singing songs of celebration
(Ah ah ah ah) just this sorry speculation
(Aah ahh)
Like john I'll be eternally
A forgotten name, some lost refrain
Just "Jane" jane
Doe!
A melody floats through the air
When silence falls, does no one care? Jane
Doe
I really like how you insert your style to all the songs you do. Just listened to the original and your version sounds angrier while the other one feels more lost and sad. It’s such a nice touch, please don’t listen to the people hoping for a copy paste since they can just listen to the original.

THIS IS SO STUNNING AND HAUNTING!!!
Jane can't remember anything, the moment her head left her body her memories went away along with it. No one can identify her body, her head somewhere, perhaps to be found in the future by some poor in the future.
Jane's story is so heartbreaking, but in the end, she was able to be brought back to life.
The absolute anger you give in that second verse is my addiction right now. God I love it so much
Anna, is a literal musical goddess. This is absolutely hauntingly beautiful and now I'm gonna go check out the original song.
I would suggest watching the video too it just makes it more impressive!
The anger you put in the line "and I'm asking why lord" is just perfect

This was so haunting and beautiful! Anna's range for singing is just incredible!
Something that I found out recently is that this song isn't a ballad, but a lament, as she is lamenting about her unknown identity and such. And Noels lament is actually a ballad, singing about he wants to be that f-ed up girl and what he dreams he was. Its really interesting to think about.
There are a lot of little details like that in the musical!! It’s so much more interesting once you notice/know them.
