alecalmec ._, Oop that’s me most of the time if the drama isn’t actually serious, like stupid funny-in-a-sense kind of drama-but if it’s real drama with some super sensitive topic I can get concerned to a certain degree
I love how he was essentially a joke the entire animatic up until he sentenced Anne to death. Then his power over her seems to fully reveal itself and he is then actually drawn.
at 4:49 when the line "didn't mean to hurt anyone" I think Anne is finally coming to like, actual terms with her actions. When Catherine shows up as a ghostly specter and Is just glaring at her, she realized she's about to die and finally thinks about who she hurt. That's just me tho- owo
Here's a fact: Anne was beheaded with a sword wielded by an expert in private who did it with one blow, without her expecting it. Usually it would be with a clumsy axeman that would have made a mess of it, but Henry decided to be 'merciful' if we can put it that way. The executioner said "Bring me my sword." And as Anne looked in the direction he was speaking, he chopped her head off. Edit: Forgot all about this comment tbh.
she asked to die that way, it wasn’t by suprise or “henry kindness”. She wrote him a letter asking to be executed by a French?? Swordman because this way she wouldn't have to bent down to die since “a queen never lowers her head, not even when she dies”-her quote
To be honest, giving Anne a type of "Airhead" design would be unfair to begin with because she was stated to be pretty clever etc, apparently the king liked that about her. So yeah, it's pretty great they didn't.
@@cloudieskyzzz some also think that he HATED that she was a a little fire cracker. She was a firey woman with a sharp tongue and he preferred his women a little bit more... Submissive.
I think they were horrified at what Anne Boleyn was gonna say because she was gonna insult Catherine of Aragon really heavily and unneccesarily as an extra song.
I love how Anne of Cleves is always smiling whenever she’s singing with all the others until a bit later. I love when they say “You’re living with his wife!?” She’s standing there like “Nice move.”
Then the last she says it, Catherine’s ghost rebuffs her as if saying you played with fire. Also accurate as Catherine was dead by a few years before Anne.
I absolutely love how you didn't make her get beheaded by a guillotine, but instead the sword. As accurate as history. Henry loved her enough to make sure she was beheaded with a royal French sword, in her honor.
I read once that she was offered two choices. Move out and have her daughter not be able to gain the throne or lose her head and have her daughter gain the throne. I'm not sure how true that is, but it's interesting. EDIT: Love how we started singing HAMILTON while talking about SIX. Love this community.
@@emmalynch893 it's very nice to know that Anne prefer her daughter to sit on the throne that her ( Anne) being alive. Shows how much she really loved her daughter
I love how Anne was potrayed as a naive girl who makes impulsive decisions and didn't think that Catherine's divorce was that big of a deal. But when Anne is about to die she saw Catherine's ghost she realized how much she hurt her and now she's screwed.
Fun fact: Before Henry married Anne he had an affair with her sister whose two sons are supposedly his. Prior to this Mary supposedly had been forced to be the mistress to the King of France. She married William Carrey, supposedly to cover up that her sons were illegitimate. Interestingly when her husband died she granted Anne wardship over her son Henry. Mary ended up secretly marrying William Stafford, which is how she ended up being banished from court. Additionally: Anne was actually very clever! She actually went against the beauty standards of beauty from the time, and Henry was very fond of her wit. Catherine was much older than Henry, and had initially been married to his brother Arthur. (Fun fact, Catherine's Parents are the same Ferdinand and Isabella who funded Colombus). He was losing interest in her and likely would have sought out a new queen soon regardless of Anne's presence. Anne's sister had already failed to get him to marry her, so Anne was her family's second chance at a claim to the throne. When Anne was executed, a swordsman was brought in from France to make sure her head came off in one swing. According to some accounts, Anne chose to be executed rather than divorcing Henry. If Anne had divorced Henry it would have endangered her daughter's claim to the throne, if she died as queen, her daughter would retain her status. This is especially important as Elizabeth's parentage had been called into question. Anne died for her daughter's sake. Also interesting: We don't know what Anne's exact last words were, but the speech she gave at her execution likely began with "I have not come here to preach a sermon, I have come here to die." And we know that she was praying while her head was on the chopping block. Supposedly her lips kept moving after her head was taken off. This is actually more likely than you think, especially since she was in the act of praying and her head came off pretty quick.
Ka Comix it’s not that uncommon tbh, the brain would still be active for a couple of seconds due to how quick it is and people would be able to move their eyes and lips (the wouldn’t be able to make any noise tho because their vocal chords would have been cut) horrible history taught me that one lmao
Yea and if Anne has divorced Henry we wouldn’t have gotten Elizabeth, and without Elizabeth a lot of shit would have went down and history would be changed *DRASTICALLY*
They all look so cute!! I like this meaner approach to Anne than the “dumb girl” approach a lot of people do. They’re both great, but this was a nice change :) Good job!
Oddly enough, I've never seen this dumb girl version. I've seen the mischievous, cunning, obviously flirtatious and almost brat like Anne, but never a sort of dumb or ditzy type. That's interesting
Audrey I really liked this one but I wouldn’t really call Anne mean, her father basically forced her into the marriage, the line ‘you should try and get ahead’ it was actually her older sister who was originally supposed to seduce Henry but she could never get into his good graces so it fell to Anne, she was very smart and capable, not at all ditzy, but she wasn’t out right malicious, just in a bad situation she had to make the best of
• B L U E S N O W C O N E • It’s not in this but if you look any of the recordings of full shows, there’s a small break in the song where Anne screams that
The fact that she’s having flash backs of everything she’s done ‘wrong’ and then figures out, “wait why should I have to be scared when *Henry’s* going to hell” is so powerful. Cause to be honest she hasn’t done anything that Henry hasn’t done yet or then. I know nobody sees her as a bad guy I just wanted to point that out.
I like how unlike most ones where they make Anne seem really dumb and childish but in this one it's more calculated and she is more cunning and clever, less childish and more like how history potrays her
YES! Anne has always been clever and cunning. She was able to play tough until she got what she wanted. She was smart enough to truck the king to giving her the throne.
@@za0384 It's honestly incredibly likely she didn't even want the throne, if you look at a lot of the history. She's portrayed as this scheming temptress but the fact of the matter is, if you look at a lot of more objective and feminist historians, it's very likely she said no to Henry so much at first not to convince him to want her more (which she had no way of knowing would work), but because she DIDN'T want to be with him but had no way of safely actually dismissing the king if he made an offer of marriage with her whole family pressuring her to accept.
@@rdklzkydd i see it like this sooo much, history just love demonizing women who was able to acquire some power. they'd rather paint anne as the seductress than henry the predator who doesn't take no for an answer

I like how at first there was the usage of the picture of Henry, and near the ending when he’s being violent he started to get animated instead. To me it seems like that was when she saw the true Henry and not how Henry presented itself.
I absolutely LOVE how at 4:21 Anne's face is so descriptive. You can see how she knows what she's doing and the consequences yet proceeds to do it anyway. Honestly this entire animation was amazing!

The last I’m not sure about, I’ll do some research. But please stop saying why, I already know. Thanks. Edit 2: I’ve done some research, and Henry lost interest in Anne indeed because she didnt give him a son. He divorced her, and accused her of High Treason, Adultery, and Incest. These accusations are believed to have been false. There you guys go
Who ?? Anne’s Brother’s Wife (Jane Boleyn) said George and Anne had incest, which was another charge, and then someone said she was flirting with guys in court. I know the first is true but I’m not sure about the second.
@@nightmacaroon4762 Anne was well versed in "courtly love", which she learned in France, which isn't actually flirting and being a specialist in it was greatly admired for a mistress, but unfortunately... not for a wife. That's the whole thing about Anne and Henry in the end. He loved her as a mistress, but everything he once adored in her, he hated in a wife.
@@isadoranovaes5387 she did not learn "courtly love" in France. That is just misinformation. Frech court wasn't even that versed in "romance", not as much English palace anyway.
I will forever adore how each of the other queens has a different general reaction to Boleyn's Anne-tics: Aragon is fuming (obviously, she's getting her husband stolen), Seymour is concerned, almost legitimately sad for her, Cleves is extremely entertained by the whole thing, Howard seems just plain disappointed, like she's unsurprised by her cousin's actions, Parr just seems frustrated. Not quite as furious as Aragon, but still undeniably mad. They all fit their respective queen's personality so well. Props.
I'm in love with how all of the queens wear different expressions throughout the video. Catherine of Aragon is pissed, of course. Anne Boleyn is smug and victorious (even at the end with a sword in her face). And she really seems like her mindset is that this whole thing was a job to her. In the frames where she's vindictive with Catherine, I'm down to believe that she's only snapping on her because she's in the way of that job. Like, "If you don't have the drive I do, then you shouldn't even be working here," type of deal going on. Jane Seymour seems like a horrified mother. Anne of Cleves just seems mildly amused the whole time which I fell in love with. Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr seem different levels of annoyed. Katherine H. is annoyed in the sense of experience. Of course everyone knows Anne B. dies, but even if she didn't know who Anne B. was, she would be thinking, "This bitch is gonna get herself killed acting like this." Catherine P. is more of a straight, "Wow, what a bitch," kind of annoyed. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna watch this a few more times. :3
Idk if you know this but fun fact: Katherine Howard and Anne Boleyn were actually cousins. Though, like you said, Katherine may not have known Anne, taking into account the age difference and how long Anne had been dead by the time Katherine became queen.

@@julianabookmarks2295 Yes but what I mean it's Elizabeth was made a bastard when her mother was executed, only on Catherine Parr's reign she was added to the succession line . Also the boy that succeded Henry was Edward, not Henry
Although what she did was unfair to Catalina of Aragon, Anne's position was difficult as it was obvious to everyone that Henry was attracted to her charming personality. In addition, her father pressured her to him and her sister was used by Henry as well. Therefore, Anne probably thought of how to make the best out of her situation to become queen.
Tbh, I think while the song is inaccurate, it works very well for the musical. The whole ‘contest’ is about who had the worst life with Henry, and it would’ve been the audience’s choice. ‘No Way’ is a good contrast. No Way is all about what Henry had done, and how Catherine of Aragon tried (and failed) to fight back against it. She actively tries to gain empathy from the audience, singing about how he doesn’t remember her daughter, and the part with her begging Henry to tell her why she was wrong near the end. Unfortunately, Catherine’s personality is her downfall when it comes to this. I think that the reason she fails to gain as much empathy because of her fighting back Anne stages herself as a young, sharp-tongued girl, trying to get the audience to relate to her and see her as younger than she is. She says that she doesn’t like politics because that could possibly lose the audience. They could see her as an intelligent woman rather than a girl who didn’t realise what was happening until too late. She mentions her father, calling him ‘daddy’ and claiming that he was the one who wanted her to chase after the king. This, again creates a much younger persona and the feeling that she is being controlled by someone. The humour during the letters is to get the audience to like her and keep them interested. Then comes the chorus. All of it just reinforces the idea that she was a young, impulsive girl with no idea what she was getting into. From the slang to the insults, all of it works to keep up this guise. The second verse is mostly her insulting Aragon, with a few crude jokes thrown in. However, it starts with ‘three in the bed and the little one said’ which is referring to the ‘x in the bed and the little one said: roll over, roll over’ song, commonly sung to children. As we know, the ‘comments’ Anne made about Aragon spiral out of control, which is relatable, especially for the younger audience members. There isn’t much to discuss for the next verse, except for Anne showing a hatred for the rules. Now, we know that Anne didn’t actually commit adultery, but she realises that fighting back gave Aragon less empathy, so she admits to the charges, but justifies them by saying Henry was doing the same. When Henry confronts her, she insults him in a childish way. Then, she realises the reality of what she just did. This is where she plays on everything she’s built up so far. This is much more clear in the show, but as the ‘What was I meant to do?!’ repeats, Anne gets more and more frantic. This pulls you in. It makes you feel sorry for Anne, as if she didn’t know what she was doing, like a child. She then makes a joke to bring the mood back up, before launching into the final chorus. By now, she’s caught most people hook, line and sinker. Sure, the song may not be accurate to the actual events, but it is SUCH a good example of playing on your emotions. I’m just going to quickly compare her to Katherine Howard, the other queen most people think of as having the worst life. Both of them act very young (birds and the bees me) and (but what was I meant to do?) being two good examples. Both of them have upbeat songs, cracking jokes and putting the other queens below them (I’m the 10 amongst these 3s) and (Don’t be bitter, because I’m fitter). Both talk about how they felt forced to get with Henry and how they didn’t mean/want anything to happen (before you come for me, no I am not saying Katherine Howard did it on purpose). This ‘formula’ keeps the audience engaged with the song, while gaining empathy as they do so. If you got this far, thanks for reading my essay. Feel free to point out any mistakes because I wrote this at almost midnight.
The last lil paragraph about comparing Anne and Katherine I'd like to respectfully disagree with that because Katherine was very young. She didn't even turn 20 before she got her head chopped off. She was a teenager when she got used by several men and was still a teen when king Henry got to her. Her mind was probably messed up by the men using her
Daket Doux I was comparing her with Katherine because Katherine was the youngest queen, only being 19 when she died. If I want to talk about how Anne acts younger than she is, it’s best to compare her to the youngest queen. But also, Katherine was certainly trying her best to win the competition, eg. After her song, she says that she is now the leading lady of the girl group, despite the audience not making a decision. We don’t know if she was ‘messed up in the head’ because she only breaks down during her song. The rest of the time, she’s making snarky jokes and being very confident in herself.
I completely agree! Idc if it's long I still read it until the end And about that last one, about Anne and Katherine being almost the same, We're completely clear that they're not *really* the same...like everyone does in the musical..but about their similarities....I guess it's by blood? They're cousins after all-

There are two things I want to appreciate real quick: 1) LOVE THE GOD DARN ANIMATION 2) Apparently Anne Boleyn actually got the decision; die and Elizabeth has the right to the throne or live and she forfeits. The woman chose death-
@@admiravelmundodemel5760 and he cheated first. the bastard killed his wife for cheating and then married the woman he was cheating on her with while she was getting executed
Gotta come in and say that second one is incorrect. The only 'choice' Anne had was how she reacted to her situation. Henry wanted her dead no matter what (she was the victim of a kangaroo court), but once sentenced she only had nice things to say about him for fear her daughter would suffer as well. It was Catherine Parr who convinced Henry to put his daughters in line for the throne, before that Elizabeth was named a bastard after Anne's death.
What is more frustrating is that the father basically sold out his children. Anne and George got beheaded and Mary had many affairs tainted with her name and had to live with her two younger siblings being murdered by her once fling.

And? Honestly? The way you just did henry like a stickman and just put a frame with his picture is such a mood LMAO
This is by far the most expressive animatic of Don't Lose your Head that I have ever seen. This version portrays Anne as mischivious and somewhat self centered (1:31 , 1:56 , 2:15 , 2:50 , 3:20 , 3:58 , 4:06 ) but her motivations for her actions are clear and her reaction to the horrible situation she ends up in makes her a sympathetic character. You actually show her being bored, annoyed, silly, and feeling awkward and uncomfortable. The manic (3:50 , 3:59 , 4:09 ) terrified (4:24 , 4:37 , 4:46 , 4:53 , 5:04 , 5:05 ) and spiteful (5:05 , 5:06 , 5:07 ) expressions she has make this animatic so much more touching and emotional than the others because Anne is understandable from beginning to end.
This is seriously so underrated. I love all the expressions, the fluidity of the movements, and the recurring "page turning" thing. the emotions are shown so well. Keep up the great work! And the backgrounds, shading, and overall work is so detailed.
+Shandy Mendy Hey man, a lot of people don’t realize this, but making a lot of edits thanking people for likes can annoy others due to it being, more or less, a copy paste of what people see almost every day, therefore what should be a sincere message comes off as dull, repetitive, and insincere. Ok so basically Anne had two choices, either die and let her daughter (Elizabeth) claim her throne when she came of age, or divorce Henry and put her daughter in danger. She choose execution so Henry charged her with the false causes of Incest, Adultery, and Treason.
I really wish they would have mentioned Elizabeth more. Mary and Edward were both mentioned but I feel like mentioning arguably the greatest English monarch of all time would have made a lot of sense
So do I, but I think cause it’s just taught about so much (idk if it’s true since I’m American, but I assume it is cause she’s very popular) that they didn’t feel the need to include her. Edwards mentioned a bit cause he’s one of the more underrated children. And Mary’s mentioned once in Aragon’s song, so she’s not also talked about much cause I assume she’s taught about a lot too due to her being known as “bloody Mary”
I've always been kinda bitter towards this song for being historically innacurate But honestly this art makes up for my mixed feelings on the song itself. Like gosh. This is gorgeous???
Lol, I know. I once saw an interview where the creators said that everything in the musical was pretty much historically accurate and directly after they had the cast do a performance of Don't Lose Your Head XD (Still love the creators though, just thought that was ironic)
MiniMimi She didn’t actually cheat on Henry, or flirt with other men, like the song states. (‘Maybe I’ll flirt with a guy or 3 just to make him Jel). Henry got upset that she had a daughter and not a son, so he _said_ she flirted with other men, and she got her head chopped off.
well she wins IF the competition had been about who as the most important/most remembered because most people before the play didnt know who half of these wives were (unlesss they actually knew their stuff and paid attention is school XD) but if you wanna go with "who had the worst life" (which the whole play at the end says "hey dont do that, we all had it bad") Kathryn Howard had it the worst considering she barely had a life of her own, as she was groomed and sexually assaulted since she was a kid and then im sure abused when married to henry (given how henry to an extent abused all his wives either verbally or physically) and then later when either 18 or 19 was beheaded like her cousin (anne) and unlike anne (i think) KH had lime poured on her to dissolve her bones becasue of how angry henry was that she had laid with other men before their marriage (even thought all the times she had "laid: with other men was SA but back then SA wasnt even a thing, gotta love that -_-) and dont get me wrong Anne for sure, had it bad, and if i had to rank them id say K howard, Anne, C of argon/Jane seymor, and Anna from from worst to least worst life, BUT in most remembrance Anne and Cathrine of Argon are the most remebered and jane too, the other three people tend to forget about them :(
probably lots of people saying it at this point but this is honestly the most beautiful animatic i’ve ever seen. everything about the intensity in lighting in some scenes, the sheer fluidity + creativity of the different layouts (esp the mirroring of anne and catherine in the choruses), and the fucking switch from green to red at the end fucking KILLED me. i don’t like to watch animatics lots cause some of them are very samey but this one is literally so beautiful in every single scene and honestly deserves even more views + likes than it already has, holy fuck.
Normally I'm not fond of this art style when it comed to animatics, but this was absolutely beautiful! I love the rare approach to drawing Anne as a mischievous girl who knew what she was doing. It portrays her perfectly and goes well with the lyrics. This is probably my new favorite animatic for Don't Lose Your Head. Everything flowed nicely and the facial expressions were amazing! @@Keke_Poutri yeah
Okay but like imagine being the excutioner and seeing her lips continue moving

it’s not that uncommon tbh, the brain would still be active for a couple of seconds due to how quick it is and people would be able to move their eyes and lips (the wouldn’t be able to make any noise tho because their vocal chords would have been cut)

I will forever adore how each of the other queens has a different general reaction to Boleyn's Anne-tics:
Aragon is fuming (obviously, she's getting her husband stolen),
Seymour is concerned, almost legitimately sad for her,
Cleves is extremely entertained by the whole thing,
Howard seems just plain disappointed, like she's unsurprised by her cousin's actions,
Parr just seems frustrated. Not quite as furious as Aragon, but still undeniably mad.
They all fit their respective queen's personality so well. Props.
Well I would say good reason for Parr to be somewhat mad as Catalina was her godmother and her namesake.
Wouldnt jane be most excited cuz henery beheaded her to marry her and jane helped get anne beheaded
Howard: omg this btch is going at it again
Of course everyone knows Anne B. dies, but even if she didn't know who Anne B. was, she would be thinking, "This bitch is gonna get herself killed acting like this."
Catherine P. is more of a straight, "Wow, what a bitch," kind of annoyed.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna watch this a few more times. :3
Catherine Parr could relate to Anne in a sense of "Both of us were forced to leave our, loves but I don't act like... That! "

I love how Anne here in this video is not childish and dumb, instead you made her look clever and smart ( and kinda evil )
I think that the reason she fails to gain as much empathy because of her fighting back
Anne stages herself as a young, sharp-tongued girl, trying to get the audience to relate to her and see her as younger than she is.
Honestly this might be my favorite take on this song
Yes, I agree 100%
The last lil paragraph about comparing Anne and Katherine
I'd like to respectfully disagree with that because Katherine was very young.
Idc if it's long I still read it until the end
And about that last one, about Anne and Katherine being almost the same, We're completely clear that they're not *really* the same...like everyone does in the musical..but about their similarities....I guess it's by blood? They're cousins after all-
I can't get over Cleeve's smirks all over the song, she just want to see the world burning

Gotta come in and say that second one is incorrect. The only 'choice' Anne had was how she reacted to her situation. Mokii! I love how you portrayed her emotions from thinking its all fun and games to her realizing the consequences of what she had done! I love the way the backgrounds demonstrate a certain mood. And?
14k is underrated? That's a lot of people in my opinion.

+Shandy Mendy Hey man, a lot of people don’t realize this, but making a lot of edits thanking people for likes can annoy others due to it being, more or less, a copy paste of what people see almost every day, therefore what should be a sincere message comes off as dull, repetitive, and insincere. Even though you might not receive backlash for it, I strongly recommend removing the edits & leaving the comment as it is. You may even get more likes for it! Who knows man, but this is just my opinion. Do with it what you will. :)

@@ohnorenna No- it’s not treason then.
She didn’t actually flirt with other men the king didn’t want her any more but couldn’t divorce her so made a rumor and killed her
I think
But ya there is much more to the story
i heard something about him accusing her of being a witch because she had 6 fingers or something like that but i’d have to double check
edit: nevermind henry didn’t accuse her of being a witch and she didn’t actually have 6 fingers - the myth that she was a witch and had 6 fingers was actually spread by other people who hadn’t met her but didn’t like her
www.theanneboleynfiles.com/anne-boleyn-the-witch/
Ok so basically Anne had two choices, either die and let her daughter (Elizabeth) claim her throne when she came of age, or divorce Henry and put her daughter in danger. She choose execution so Henry charged her with the false causes of Incest, Adultery, and Treason.
Lillian Smith tyyy!!! That’s much more clear than what I said
Yep thats true
Thatonedragenkid your right
I really wish they would have mentioned Elizabeth more.
I mean the musicals about the queens and not henrys 15 kids

I've always been kinda bitter towards this song for being historically innacurate
But honestly this art makes up for my mixed feelings on the song itself. Like gosh. This is gorgeous???
Lol, I know. I once saw an interview where the creators said that everything in the musical was pretty much historically accurate and directly after they had the cast do a performance of Don't Lose Your Head XD (Still love the creators though, just thought that was ironic)
What’s inaccurate about it, if u don’t mind me askin? :0

She didn’t actually cheat on Henry, or flirt with other men, like the song states.

My favourite part of this is when they were getting married and then it IMMEDIATELY changed to red and she was so angry I just- i love this
Normally I'm not fond of this art style when it comed to animatics, but this was absolutely beautiful! I love the rare approach to drawing Anne as a mischievous girl who knew what she was doing. It portrays her perfectly and goes well with the lyrics. This is probably my new favorite animatic for Don't Lose Your Head. Everything flowed nicely and the facial expressions were amazing!
