Alright, so I see many people commenting facts about Howard's life, but many are actually false or rumors, so here are some that you can easily verify: 1- Despite being from aristocratic descent, her family was pretty poor, her father being one of 21 children and herself being 10th out of 11 kids. Her parents, especially father, often found themselves begging for money. 2- She was Anne Boleyn's first cousin (her father and Boleyn's mother being siblings), BUT she also was Jane Seymour's distant cousin (their grandmothers were sisters). Which means that out of 6 wives, three were blood related. He really had a thing for this family. 3- We don't actually know how old she was when she died. Her exact date of birth being unknown (sometime in 1523), she was either 18 (most probable since she died at the beginning of 1542, in February) or 19. 4- This is also the reason why we don't know whether she married Henry at 16 or 17; however, we do know how old he was: 49. All we know is that she got beheaded one year and 8 months after their marriage (or, 3 months after her title of Queen got taken away). 5- Her mother died in 1528, and soonly after, Katherine H. was send to live with her father's stepmother, the Dowager Duchess (of Norfolk). Sadly, the Duchess was negligeant and wouldn't really educate any of her wards (kids of artistocratic but poor relatives), especially not the girls. 6- Because of that, Howare was influenced by the other female wards who would allow men into sleeping areas at night, to play cards obviously. 7- As she was clearly more interested in dance & music than studies (she wasn't really ever described as a scholar), she started music lessons with two teachers, one of them being Henry Mannox, who took advantage of her by using the 6th fact, making her think that was normal (which it technically was back then, but not for non-married young girls.) 8- We do NOT actually know Mannox's age either. We suspect he was in his early to mid-twenties (around 23), but he might have been up to 36 years old. 9- He abused her for around 2 years; however, they both admitted, at court, that while they did have sexual contact, they didn't have penetrative sex. Which is STILL extremely gross, considering she was 13 and groomed. 10- After that, Dereham and her entamed a "relationship" when she was 15. He was either 29 or 32 (some think he was 25 but it's pretty unlikely + still wrong & morally reprehensible). According to records, they would call each other "husband" and "wife", and admitted to having signed a precontract marriage. If the Duchess hadn't found out about their "relationship", they would've echanged vows and would've been married in the eyes of Church. 11- She met Henry when she became a lady-in-waiting for Anna of Cleves, via her uncle the Duke of Norfolk who got her her place at the court. 12- The Howard family really wanted her to marry Henry, as a way to recreate the influence from Boleyn's reign (reminder, Boleyn's mother was a Howard herself). 13- Henry actually nicknamed her "his very jewel of womanhood"; the "rose without a thorn" is likely a myth. 14- "No other wish but his [Henry's]", that's what her motto became. 15- She was also Thomas Culpeper's distant cousin. 16- When she got arrested for infidelity, the King ordered to the guards to remove any object that might help her commit suicide. 17- As she had sex with Dereham (oh, he's back), the man got hanged as she got beheaded. Both his and Thomas' heads were placed on spikes atop London Bridge. 18- Defending herself, she denied any precontract and standed by her version: Dereham had raped her. While this IS what happened, as a 15yo can't consent to a ~30yo, them calling each other spouses got her unbelieve (despite the grooming & all, again, this happened over 4 centuries ago). 19- She did repeat laying her head under the block for hours and hours, the night during her execution. 20- Howard made a speech before getting beheaded, saying that her punishment was "worthy and just", asking for her family's mercy (as everyone but the Duke of Norfolk got arrested) and praying for her soul. She also said that she "deserved to die a thousand deaths for betraying the king, who had always treated [her] so graciously". 21- According to the popular folklore, her last words were "I die a Queen, but I would rather have died the wife of Culpeper". However, no witness reported this, instead talking about her speech of regret. Last words of a Queen being pretty much important AND getting reported to the King, it's extremely unlikely that she ever said that. 21- We do NOT know whether Culpeper raped her or not. Historians do suspect it, the writing of the letter found in his room being erratic and looking forced, but outside of this, we don't know. While K. Howard was saying Dereham raped her, she always admitted having an intercourse with Thomas. Jane Boleyn (Anne B's sister-in-law, her brother's widow) also witnessed & even organized some of their meetings, which is the reason why she died, joining her husband, sister-in-law and cousin-in-law. 22- And to finish: even in the case were Thomas didn't rape her, he used her to gain political power. The King was sick (hence why he died not so long after beheading Howard), and having been friend with him while having a relationship with the Queen would've gotten him a lot of power after Henry's death. He never loved her. Wasn't her lover, and wasn't her friend either. [I'm done and it took me an hour to research and write so pls be nice if I made any typo
@@yaboiharambe8784 the musical is retelling the history of the six wives of Henry VIII in modern setting. This song is story of Katherine Howard, his fifth wife. She was only 16, while Henry was 49.
@@teshagoodwin1960 She was more exploited then abused. Clearly the first guy was a pedophile so anything he did with her sexually is automatically sexual abuse. It appears Francis verbally abused her and forced her to do stuff she didn't want to. In the song she says "My wrist were so tired still I came back the next day as he required". The last one well some historians say he raped her but I domt believe that. Could be abuse in the sense that it seemed he was forcing her into a relationship she didn't want.
In the song you can hear how everytime she sings, "We have this connection" she slowly starts to sing it with less sincerity and more bitterness. Really sad but gives me so many chills
@@stevenwood2436 Not exactly treason. Her cousin who had worked in the castle had raped her and told Henry that he and her had an affair so Henry was blindly believed the cousin and was like "alright lady you gonna die now"
Her story is the saddest because she didn't even get to grow up, she was beheaded at 19 and she was so scared she couldn't make it up to the chopping block on her own.
It wasn't even confirmed she died at the age of 19 (as no one knows her actual birth date), she was so young. She was even reported to be practising how to lay her head on the block for the beheading. God, she deserves better
I really like how you actually drew the age differences between the versions of Katherine and the other men, it really shows how young she really was with the first man who took advantage of her. Amazing job!

Katherine’s story is so sad. She was so mentally unstable. She clearly suffered Stockholm syndrome, so traumatized by the sexual abuse at a young age that her mind convinced her that she was in love with the 36 yr old man that molested her. It all started from there, making her find toxic man to fall for.
@Dark spirit44 Stockholm syndrome is a condition in which hostages develop a psychological alliance with their captors during captivity. Emotional bonds may be formed, between captor and captives, during intimate time together, but these are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims.
Klara Rosengren not really and you’re right but it keeps a similar basis. She was a victim and her tutor was a predator but the abuse made her believe it was out of love. Somehow it matches. She was young, barely a preteen, so her mind was fresh to profane.
Biased on the way this song is presenting her she sounds like she may have BPD. She starts off loving them then ends up hating them... A lot of those with it suffered sexual abuse..
How you draw the 4th guy just makes me want to trust him. And I know how the song goes, so mad props to you. This was edited I made this post really late at night so yeah had to fix a mistake. But thanks for everyone who commented.
Yeah. She was only 19 when she was beheaded... So all these older guys took advantage of a young girl who had a serious lack of good parental guidance. Then she was killed because of it.
I just realized, when she's talking about Culpeper, she says, "Just mates, no chemistry." That line is so sad to me because she felt like she finally found a friend who cared about her and didn't have some alternative motive but in the end, he was just as bad as every the other men that abused her. The men in her life only liked her because she was young and could be taken advantage of. Even Dereham who was supposed to be her true love before she married Henry was just using her and mostly loved her for sex.
When she says “Just.. so sincere.” Sounds like she’s so much in pain after all she went through. I feel so bad for her, she really had the worst life out of the SIX wives But you really could hear the pain through that lone
Idk Anne Boleyn was actually beheaded because people falsely accused her of having an affair with her brother And his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, was forced to marry a disabled man who died before they could even consummate their marriage then was just past down to the younger sibling. Who when she grew to love after a 24 year long marriage. (Even though he repetitively cheated on her and banned her from his chambers after her failure to give him a son) This husband fathers a bastard. Then literally splits from the church that his family has been with for generation just to divorce her. She also lived throughout the entire 5 more wives so she had to actively watch from afar as a man she loved and the father of her children did all this.
Nitemar Walker But K also got beheaded by being raped by her cousin (Thomas) (I think?) She was so innocent, and had a giggly personality. She got abused, raped, and used by her body. Her parents died when she was young, and she died at 19. The day before the execution, she spent hours trying to learn how to place her head on the block.
@@nitemarwalker4186 Catherine of Argon died in 1536. The same year is Anne Boleyn, but I think we can all agree each of them had a rough time in their own ways.... However is terms of the competition.. Katherine Howard had it the worst
I love how you made most of the animatic pink, because Katherine viewed everything through rose-coloured glasses. And then the black and white is Katherine reflecting on her decisions and memories.
Most of the animatic is pink because that's her color in the musical, like Anne Boleyn is green, Anne of Cleves is red, C/Katherine is pink, Catherine of Aragon is yellow, you get the point. But the rose coloured glasses is interesting, it could fit, but I don't think that's what the artist intended
Bro the way she says "enoughsies" shows how young she really was Fun fact: Katherine Howard was only 17 when she was forced into marriage with King Henry the 8th who was 49 at the time. Literally all of England was creeped out by their marriage but no one could say anything because he was the King.
@@ohlookadandehlion5760 there are many things showing that she was so young and she never really knew what a real relationship was. So yea she was forced into it cause no one rejected the king
@@ohlookadandehlion5760 Although nobody’s sure about Katherine’s EXACT age, we know she was around 18-19 during her execution, really sad :(. most people were obviously creeped out by the age gap, but couldn’t say anything since Henry had complete control over anyone like the tyrannical king he was, although some people believed it was normal as this was a common/basic thing to occur in history.
Fun reminder that she died when she was 19. So pretty much all of her relationships started when she was a minor. She married Henry when she was 16-17 and he was like 49. Her story is honestly so fucking tragic. She was just a kid. She was a child and on repeat, she was being taken advantage of by significantly older men and essentially being taught that it was fine and that was her place. It's honestly- really fuckin tragic.
It's even possible that she was as young as 17 when she was executed - we really don't know her exact age. But it's entirely possible that she never even made it to adulthood. & that's the saddest part for me: she was just a kid.
@@vienaubrey1313 The man: Do this sexual action against your will because I can make ur life h*ll (very common unfortuantly) K. Howard: N- (No) The Man: I dont care your a woman its rape, it is very unfortunate always ask before you "birds and the bees" someone.
The most heartbreaking part is that Henry called her his “rose without a thorn”. Francis came to her at court and blackmailed her into letting him work at court, along with a woman she lived with at the Dowager Duchess’s house who knew everything that happened with Francis. She was surrounded by people using her, her uncle consistently told her how stupid she was and what she needed to do. Henry also tended to listen to her opinions. She also had a fur coat sewed for an old lady in the tower because it was winter. She was such a young child and truly sweet in temperament, and was just constantly pushed around by the men in her life.
Katherine was really sweet but the people abusing her are empty, no soul. She didn't deserve what happened to her. She definitely had it the worst as she was 17-19 when she died and her death was very painful, unlike Anne boleyns death.
It’s so unfair that Catherine has been written off as a promiscuous vixen and a foolish idiot. She was so much more than that - well-mannered, generous and kind. I believe that she was innocent, even if historians can’t agree if Catherine was abused or not. There’s little proof that she and Culpeper had sex and, by her own confession, evidence that there was coercion involved in her relationships. But, even if she really was guilty of adultery and willingly slept with Dereham before she married the king, it’s still not fair to call her a harlot. She was just a teenager who didn’t understand. And to die at so young an age, no older than 21 at the very most. The musical may omit some important details of Catherine’s life, but at least finally some poetic justice is being done for her. However, I’d just like to add here that Henry VIII probably never called Catherine his ‘rose without a thorn’. Historian Claire Ridgway, over at The Anne Boleyn Files, has written an article in which she debunks this myth. The phrase actually originates from a coin struck in 1526, which bore the words ‘Henry VIII, the dazzling rose without a thorn’. I highly recommend you give it a read, it’s a very interesting piece: www.theanneboleynfiles.com/katherine-howard-really-henry-viiis-rose-without-thorn/

I think she didn't want a lover, just to be loved, and she never knew that, in true, what they felt for her wasn't love ( and I'm holding on not to complete this sentence with "it was a perfect illusion")... I think she gave herself for those men because that was the closest thing to "love" she knew, because they all said that they loved her but they only wanted to have sex with her...
I feel really bad for liking and singing along to the song. Katherine deserved better and she was so young when she died. The worst thing is watching it live because the actress breakdown on stage apparently and thats when I'm probally going to cry when I go and see the musical after the pandemic.
some facts about katherine howard: - she died when she was only 18 or 19 (her exact birthdate is unkown) - henry mannox was actually 36, not 23 - she was anne boleyn's cousin - she loved animals, especially dogs - she loved dancing and got lessons for it - she had a good sense of humor and was described as being 'giggly' - it's unknown whether her name is spelled with a C or K since it was written differently on many occasions, but evidence suggests it was probably with a C (but tbh just write it how you want) - the 'thomas' guy at the end was her cousin - her mom died when she was around 5 and her dad died when she was around 15 - the night before her execution, she reportedly spent hours practising how to lay her head on the block - she was buried in an unmarked grave she won the competition for sure
The fact that we don't even know for sure how old she was is fucking tragic. I have a lot of sympathy for Catherine Howard; she was given a really rough hand in life.
It's nice to see someone make a animatic that shows just how messed up this song actually is Don't get me wrong i do enjoy the other Six animatics but this one takes the cake when it comes to this song specifically The men around Katherine especially near the beginning all actually looks older then her And it shows just how messed up Kaths life was over the years And don't even get me started on the glass shards that shown reflections of Kath being arrested and then about to be beheaded

Fun fact: One of Elizabeth I's childhood friends, Robert Dudley, supposedly claimed that she first told him she never wanted to get married when she was about eight or nine years old. Guess how old she was when Katherine lost her head? (On Valentines Day as well, just in case Henry wasn't being dramatic enough already.) This was a fucking traumatic event for all involved, and is probably a big part of the reason why we ended up with the Virgin Queen Elizabeth.
I saw this and decided to research it, the year Katherine died was the year Elizabeth turned 9, Katherine dying months before Elizabeth's 9th birthday, meaning when her step mother died, she was 8. So she was about 9-10 years younger then Katherine.
I don't blame Elizabeth for becoming the virgin queen like she did. If I witnessed my dad going through women like water like that, I'd be traumatized too.
She was smart, the others weren't stupid, she reilized what could've happened to her so she avoided getting married and avoided men as much as possible
Her being a virgin queen also meant she retained power. If she had married she would have lost her power to the king, her own husband. Her father killed her mother but it was noted through letters that she loved her father anyway. She was a well educated woman, who knew as soon as she married and had a child she would no longer be in a position of power but an object of succession
When King Henry and Cathrine Howard were first married, she was too young to take part in court proceedings. She was 16 or 17 years old. A 46 year old man, married a 16 year old. How screwed up is that?
While Katherine was in the Tower, she asked for the execution block to be brought to her room so she could practice resting her head on it before her execution. I love how this little detail was added in one of the glass shards at the end!
The fact she just wanted someone to be with friends with and every time they say they love her she loses trust in them, the poor girl couldn’t get one all her life..
What makes it worse was that she only wanted to be friends with Thomas, as said in the line 'Just mates, no chemistry', I think I heard that Katherine had been forced to write a love letter to Thomas or something like that.
We are not sure at all, but historians found that the love letter she wrote to him she wrote it strangely more stressed than other letters she had written and also his cousin also had raped many other girls even knowing that Henry still let him in, so she was probably forced and raped..
I love the fact that at first she was like "Please me squeeze me" and when she got with Henry it was "sieze me squeeze me" it always makes me emotional.
God like at the start of the song she's trying to minimise the damage done by these guys by acting all flirty and coy about it (thirteen going on thirty! Um no honey you were a babychild) but when Thomas betrays her trust it's just the last straw and it all just boils over. It's so sad. And that's before her head comes off!
This is so sad! She uses such childish terms like ‘birds and bees’ and ‘enoughsie’ so she’s obviously had her childhood robbed off her. Playtimes over is sorta like inferring what I’ve just said about her childhood being cut short. This is also the same case in the first part about her being 13 going on 30. She goes on about her thinking it’s different so that means that she only wants a friend, and she doesn’t want any men making moves on her. TL;DR : She had a few years of childhood, then got deceived until she was killed basically :(
The Milkman Goose well i thought it was too, but someone said it said enoughsie aha. either way, you can tell how desperate she is to get herself heard x
Or any 18 year old cause I don’t know how it works in London but in the us you get out of heigh school at 18 so the actdress wouldn’t miss or fall behind in school
K Howard’s life in a nutshell: Katherine got used by several men as child, then when she was around 15, her uncle made her a lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves and put her in King Henry VIII’s view, Henry liked her and married her while Katherine was only 15 or 16, Her cousin, Thomas was working in the palace, and helped Katherine through tough times with Henry, then Thomas told her that he loved her (in ways that someone should not love their cousin) Katherine rejected him, Thomas told King Henry that he and Katherine had an affair, and he sent her to the tower, the night before Katherine lost her head, she spent many hours practicing how to put her head on the block, and on February 13th, 1542, Katherine Howard was beheaded, when she was only 18 or 19
Wait but I thought Thomas manipulated her so she believed he truly loved her and she slept with him because she wanted it too? At least that's how we learned it.
"And there's *nothing* more to it." The relief in her voice is my favorite part, but it makes it even more heartbreaking when things go wrong yet again.
Here are some facts about Catherine Howard - I will update this comment whenever I come across interesting information: - Her birthdate is a mystery, but most recent estimates put her year of birth at about 1523 or 1522. No official documents of her birth exist, so most figures are based around the wills of her relatives or charters of the households she served in. - There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to spell her name, as there was no standardised system of spelling in the Tudor period. Historians have variously spelt her name as ‘Catherine’ or ‘Katherine’, but in her letter to Culpeper she herself wrote it as ‘Katheryn’. - She could play the virginals. - She was a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Cleves. - Catherine was educated in etiquette. She took her duties as queen seriously and carried out plenty of kind acts, such as sending warm sheets to the imprisoned Margaret Pole and securing a pardon for Sir Thomas Wyatt. Catherine also gifted Anne of Cleves two puppies and ring, despite the presents originally being for her. - Henry VIII probably never called Catherine his ‘rose without a thorn’. The phrase comes from a coin struck in 1526, years before the two were married, which bore the words ‘Henry VIII, the dazzling rose without a thorn’. - Catherine never had a legal trial. She was instead condemned to death by an act of parliament. - Her behaviour in the months leading up to her death was erratic. Eustace Chapuys recorded how she was ‘cheerful, and more plump and pretty than ever’ and that her only request was that the execution ‘be secret and not under the eyes of the world’. Later, she became hysterical and had to be forced onto the barge which took her to prison. - According to Chapuys, she requested that the block to be brought to her so that she practice dying gracefully. It was expected that nobles would go to their execution with great dignity and die in the image of Christ - that is, forgiving the executioner and accepting one’s fate. - She made her last confession to clergyman John White. She swore ‘upon salvation of her soul, that she was guiltless of that act of defiling the sovereign's bed’. - She wore a black velvet gown to her execution. - Her last words were not ‘I die a Queen, but I would rather die the wife of Culpeper’. This myth comes from a highly fictionalised and unreliable account by the writer of ‘The Spanish Chronicle’. Eyewitness Ottwell Johnson recorded how she declared her ‘lively faith in the blood of Christ only’ and then asked for ‘all Christian people to take regard unto [her] worthy and just punishment’. - The story about her collapsing and needing help to climb the scaffold does have some historical basis, as it comes from a recording by Charles de Marillac. However, this needs to be taken with a small pinch of salt since Marillac was not an eyewitness. - She was, mercifully, beheaded in a single blow of the axe. None of the accounts of her execution support the claim that it took more than one attempt to sever her head, or that the axe hit her back. - She was executed alongside her lady-in-waiting, Jane Rochford, with Catherine going first. Jane Rochford had been accused of arranging meetings between Catherine and Culpeper. Jane was the widow of George Boleyn (beheaded), the brother of Anne Boleyn (also beheaded). - Her remains (body and head) were buried in the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula, within the walls of the Tower of London. - There is a story that lye or quicklime was poured over her body to make it decompose faster, but this hasn’t been definitively proven. RIP Queen Catherine Howard, c. 1523 - 13th February, 1542

lil.i558 That's true. I'm really glad that this musical cleared it out for us. This musical may not be that really accurate, but at least we get to learn a more detailed life story of her.
Queen Aqua Green Yeah I know. I just said it wasn't really that accurate because like you said the men were two times older than her. And other little things like Jane Seymour said "I'm the only one he truly love" which is quite falls, she only bear a son for him, but that doesn't really mean he loved her. But over the musical was accurate, there's just a little falls in it😊
Another thing about Katherine, she was actually forced into her marriage with Henry. She was 18 and engaged to someone else, but the King took a liking to her and you really couldn’t say no to him. So she might have been a bit promiscuous, but can you blame her? She was in a loveless marriage, she wasn’t happy. Poor girl.
Actually she was forced into Henry 's sight by her family bc they wanted power plus the final wife was also going or already married to someone else but when Henry liked her she couldn't say no plus she was 16-17 when she married henry cathrine was either 18-19 when she died bc no one knows her birthday but most people think she was 19
@@nobodyimportant9603 There is no conclusive evidence that Howard was raped during her marriage - it is just a plausible theory. Not only do the confessions of Catherine and her alleged lover Thomas Culpeper strongly suggest that they never had sex (she stated the night before her execution that she was ‘guiltless’ of ‘defiling’ the king’s bed), but it is impossible for to us to know exactly whether or not Catherine consented to her relationship with him due to how fragmentary the details are. Historians Lucy Worsley and Retha Warnicke have pointed towards some of the more platonic language in the alleged love letter written by Catherine to Culpeper, suggesting that perhaps they were just close friends or that Catherine wrote it an attempt to appease him. Worsley and Conor Byrne have also expanded upon the theory that Culpeper (and Dereham) blackmailed Catherine; there is evidence that Dereham openly spoke about his relationship with Catherine. Culpeper could have easily caught wind of this, and with knowledge of her past, used it to coerce or persuade Catherine into seeing him. However, most historians still believe that Catherine and Thomas had a genuine, romantic relationship - or, at the very least, that there was no rape involved. It is not a stretch to say that there may have been some mutual feelings between the two (either platonic or intimate), since we know that the two met up in private and exchanged gifts. Whilst the love letter has been interpreted as evidence of the use of blackmail and coercion, it can just as easily be taken the other way. And yes, there is a report from the time describing charges of rape and murder against Culpeper (which, if genuine, would allow us to make an almost sure conclusion about the nature of his relationship with Catherine), but it has been dismissed by a handful of experts as unreliable. I am not saying that Catherine was promiscuous or that she was guilty of adultery - I am of the opinion that she was pressured into her relationships and was more than likely assaulted by Mannox and Dereham. She was only a child; it was not her fault and she didn’t deserve to die. However, it is simply not accurate to suggest Howard was beheaded for being raped - not only was she, legally speaking, condemned to death for not disclosing her sexual history before meeting the king, but accusations of rape were not wholly disregarded in the 16th century. Whilst ideas about femininity and masculinity were certainly different in the Tudor era, many cases of sexual assault were treated seriously - hence why we have numerous documentations of abuse from the period. The issue is not as black and white as the musical (or the comments section) make out. There is an absence of strong evidence for both sides of the argument - it is as likely that Culpeper did pressure Catherine into seeing him as it is that there were close romantic feelings between them. It is all just speculation. Apologies if I come off as condescending and pedantic; I don’t mean to lecture you.
Yes I did have the worst but in the modern time musical I think this is one of the songs most people would agree that Jane had the saddest song but I had it the worst
This really captures how young she was when it all started, like 13 year old Katherine looks like a child because she _was_ and he absolutely took advantage of her. And the visuals are generally gorgeous and give the same vibes as the choreography in the show.
Something about "All You Wanna Do" has been bothering me since I first heard it...the line "playtime's over". At first I took it literally, that the fun is over and things are getting serious, but after listening to the song all the way through and doing research, I realized that's definitely NOT the correct interpretation (i mean, jesus christ, this girl had a rough life, and all the men she met were pieces of shit to her). Then I thought it meant that her chance to remain a kid--"playtime"--was forcefully taken from her, because she was thirteen when she and Mannox got involved, and was beheaded at nineteen. I think this is a better understanding, but then I did some quick research on age of consent in England in the 1500s. I didn't think it existed back then, but as a matter of fact, it did. According to the Children and Youth in History website, in 1275 in England, the age of consent was set at twelve years old. Twelve. Katherine was thirteen when Mannox molested her. This bitch KNEW that if he tried to pull this shit if Katherine were younger, he would be charged with statutory rape. But because she was "of age", the only charge he would get was adultery, and back then, English courts didn't even CONSIDER adultery to be a criminal offence My point is that these technicalities are bullshit, Mannox was bullshit, Dereham, Henry, and Thomas were all bullshit, and Katherine deserved better. (Sorry for the long comment, but I had to get this off my chest. I absolutely love your art and this animatic!)
No need to say sorry this was fun reading and I agree 100%. I mean it's just so sad how things used to be especially for women. Im so glad for liveing in the 21st century I mean to know this is what was happening daily back then is so sad
when she says "He says we have this... connection" you can hear her heart break at that exact moment. Just the optimism followed by the crushing dissapointment. You can hear her reaction "don't say it... Don't say it... Don't say i--..."
That moment broke my heart for her. She finally had a genuine relationship with a friend. He just wanted to sleep with her in the end like the others. That hurts me deeply. Like the others it was kinda red flags. But she didn't know any better. After she had been through so much in this version of the story she finally makes a friend who cares and he just wanted in her pants as well.
@@shortstackashe That makes sense too but yeah it hurt me to watch her finally have someone after everything she's been through give her a caring friendship and then at the end it was "oh by the way ;) " that hurt me to watch
Yeah in real life Thomas was apparently her cousin too, and he raped her when she rejected his feelings. Then he blackmailed her which eventually led to her being executed):
Alright, so I see many people commenting facts about Howard's life, but many are actually false or rumors, so here are some that you can easily verify:
1- Despite being from aristocratic descent, her family was pretty poor, her father being one of 21 children and herself being 10th out of 11 kids.
7- As she was clearly more interested in dance & music than studies (she wasn't really ever described as a scholar), she started music lessons with two teachers, one of them being Henry Mannox, who took advantage of her by using the 6th fact, making her think that was normal (which it technically was back then, but not for non-married young girls.)
8- We do NOT actually know Mannox's age either.

But this isn't really Stockholm syndrome, now is it? She was Not kidnapped by these men, she was abused.
Klara Rosengren not really and you’re right but it keeps a similar basis. She was a victim and her tutor was a predator but the abuse made her believe it was out of love. Somehow it matches. She was young, barely a preteen, so her mind was fresh to profane.

The most heartbreaking part is that Henry called her his “rose without a thorn”.
I highly recommend you give it a read, it’s a very interesting piece:

When you listen to the lyrics, it is actually pretty sad. It sounds like she didn't want a lover, just a friend.
I hope that in her next life, she's free to do and live as she pleases. She deserves that freedom. Who else agrees?
I do but she will still be a child because she never got to grow up since she died when she was ( i think ) 19
Maybe she's you. Maybe she's me. Maybe she's yo mama.

some facts about katherine howard:
- she died when she was only 18 or 19 (her exact birthdate is unkown)
- henry mannox was actually 36, not 23
- she was anne boleyn's cousin
- she loved animals, especially dogs
- she loved dancing and got lessons for it
- she had a good sense of humor and was described as being 'giggly'
- it's unknown whether her name is spelled with a C or K since it was written differently on many occasions, but evidence suggests it was probably with a C (but tbh just write it how you want)
- the 'thomas' guy at the end was her cousin
- her mom died when she was around 5 and her dad died when she was around 15
- the night before her execution, she reportedly spent hours practising how to lay her head on the block
- she was buried in an unmarked grave
she won the competition for sure
**spits water** 36- holy-
THE FACT THAT SHE WAS REPORTED TO BE *PRACTISING* HOW TO LAY HER HEAD ON THE THING IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING
The fact that we don't even know for sure how old she was is fucking tragic. I have a lot of sympathy for Catherine Howard; she was given a really rough hand in life.
she was just so naive and those guys really took advantage of the fact she wanted to be loved- honestly i say jail for all guys who hurt her

Guess how old she was when Katherine lost her head? (On Valentines Day as well, just in case Henry wasn't being dramatic enough already.)
This was a fucking traumatic event for all involved, and is probably a big part of the reason why we ended up with the Virgin Queen Elizabeth.
@@Icarus5252 I agree
It was a smart move
Her being a virgin queen also meant she retained power. If she had married she would have lost her power to the king, her own husband. Her father killed her mother but it was noted through letters that she loved her father anyway. She was a well educated woman, who knew as soon as she married and had a child she would no longer be in a position of power but an object of succession
When King Henry and Cathrine Howard were first married, she was too young to take part in court proceedings. She was 16 or 17 years old. A 46 year old man, married a 16 year old. How screwed up is that?

I feel really bad for liking the song cause of how bad she was mistreated BUT ITS SO HECKING CATCHY
The song is so catchy but her whole life and relationships would be so illegal now.
"And there's *nothing* more to it." The relief in her voice is my favorite part, but it makes it even more heartbreaking when things go wrong yet again.
Here are some facts about Catherine Howard - I will update this comment whenever I come across interesting information:
- Her birthdate is a mystery, but most recent estimates put her year of birth at about 1523 or 1522.
- There is a story that lye or quicklime was poured over her body to make it decompose faster, but this hasn’t been definitively proven.

wOAH WOAH WOAH SHE WAS A LADY IN WAITING TO ANNA OF CLEVES ???
@Stephanie Folz thats amazing! How did you know?
I’ve never heard this musical but damn this is sad.
The truth is even sadder
None of Your Business what's even sadder, is that this was based on a true historical event of Catherine Howard.
lil.i558 That's true. I'm really glad that this musical cleared it out for us. This musical may not be that really accurate, but at least we get to learn a more detailed life story of her.
This is actually exactly what happened, but the men where actually two times older than her
Queen Aqua Green Yeah I know. I just said it wasn't really that accurate because like you said the men were two times older than her. And other little things like Jane Seymour said "I'm the only one he truly love" which is quite falls, she only bear a son for him, but that doesn't really mean he loved her. But over the musical was accurate, there's just a little falls in it😊
3:32
that caught me off guard and I was wheezing for 10 minutes straight and my family thought I was dieing
Poor girl.
Actually she was forced into Henry 's sight by her family bc they wanted power plus the final wife was also going or already married to someone else but when Henry liked her she couldn't say no plus she was 16-17 when she married henry cathrine was either 18-19 when she died bc no one knows her birthday but most people think she was 19
Min Yoongi She actually wasn’t promiscuous- she got raped while married and nobody believed it was rape at the time, so they killed her
@@nobodyimportant9603 I can confirm this
@@nobodyimportant9603 There is no conclusive evidence that Howard was raped during her marriage - it is just a plausible theory.
Wait did this stuff ACTUALLY happen-

Katherine had the worst in my opinion...she was just a child when she was used and beheaded FOR NO REASON

This really captures how young she was when it all started, like 13 year old Katherine looks like a child because she _was_ and he absolutely took advantage of her. And the visuals are generally gorgeous and give the same vibes as the choreography in the show.
I love how you draw all the guys eyes without pupils, it really makes them seem like monsters :3 you added so much detail its really beautiful
But because she was "of age", the only charge he would get was adultery, and back then, English courts didn't even CONSIDER adultery to be a criminal offence
My point is that these technicalities are bullshit, Mannox was bullshit, Dereham, Henry, and Thomas were all bullshit, and Katherine deserved better.
Uh oh. This is so wrong.
She honestly was born in the wrong time
Its all *BULLSHIT-*
Yeah her whole situation frustrates me to this day. She shoudlve at least gotten spared
when she says "He says we have this... connection" you can hear her heart break at that exact moment.
