    Hi there! Love your videos on bags. I wanted your opinion on duffle bags around 50-80 price range. I understand quality cost more especially one that will withstand time however I have 6 younger siblings who I want to encourage to travel more but cannot afford spending over 100$ a person with still manyon the list to shop for. I was thinking of duffle bags or weekender bags or maybe even travel accessories but I dont trust reviews online. Any suggestions?

  • @TheLicio
    @TheLicio 5 лет назад

    Those duffels are usually kind of expensive. What if you have a daily bag and a duffel as carry-on and you need to check the bag? I mean, what is your thoughts on that as the bag will suffer ...

      I’ve been eyeing that bag too but none of their packing cubes that’s supposed to work with the bag has been in stock for over a year. Why drop $435 on a bag if you can’t kit it out the way it’s designed to?

  • @yasunari65

    I recently made a total change from rolling suitcase to a backpack for maximum mobility, no more checking luggage on airplanes, and just overall ease of traveling and I now travel with a Tortuga Setout. I put a lot of thoughts into the decision process and I had this debate of backpack vs duffel as well. I've also traveled with a duffel before and it really wasn't a comfortable experience because of the awkwardness of carrying it. A lot of strain on your tilted shoulder and back while, for example, walking through a large airport 15 minutes from one gate to another. Especially as you get older the thought of "I need to keep this heavy weight secure on my back for ease of carrying" wins over "I don't want to look juvenile with a backpack". And my Tortuga will last me forever. No, you don't have any quick access to anything in your large and heavy backpack. But I also do not want to put my valuables that I most often need to access such as phone, credit cards, cash, and passport in a backpack on my back either, or up in an overhead. So my solution was to have a small personal items bag such as Tom Bihn Travel Cubelet, Side Effect, Side Kick, etc. (I have their Co-Pilot but thinking of getting something smaller) just to carry the valuables and a few essentials on my side or front strapped cross body and underneath the backpack shoulder straps so it is secure and because most likely I would put down the backpack when I get somewhere, plane, train, etc. but not the valuables. It works for my travel style but I understand everyone's travel style, needs and purposes are different.

    FINALLY! You're designing a bag!!!! Regarding both types of bags, I use a 25L duffle for the majority of my 1-5 day travel, mostly because it always fits under the seat, or in a top baggage spot even on small regional flights. I use my 30L backpack when I know I'll want a backpack more so than the duffle at my destination. Sometimes I take my packable day-bag with either of these setups. All this of course, thanks to Chase and his recommendations over the years.

    Congratulations on the collaboration mate! Can't wait to see what you come up with. Also great review. You nailed every point I was thinking of about duffel vs backpack. Often just after I thought it! To me how much you carry will play a part in the decision. Obviously if your carrying heavier the backpack is better for you. However, the duffel does allow you to two bag travel which can be useful when getting around carry-on weight restrictions. Airlines will often allow you a carry-on bag and a "laptop" bag or personal bag. So you can put your laptop / tablet etc in the backpack and get that carry-on under the weight limit. I also found that having the travel backpack was indeed useful when getting around but could be annoying in a packed train. The duffel can be easier in that situation as you take it off and straight between your feet. When I had my Aer Travel Pack 2 in a crowded train I did tend to bump into people with it. However, now that I do have the travel pack I may look at a duffel and switch between the to. Definitely been eyeing off the Pakt for a while. Anyway keep up the good work! I come for the reviews but stay for the philosophical introspection. ;)

    My personal solution is a compressable duffel with backstraps comboed with a small EDC daypack that can fit inside the duffel while packed.
    I generally one-bag in transit, drop the duffel in homebase and operate out of the daypack. I can also unload the packing cube and shoes from the duffel and compress it into the daypack for use as a shopping bag or possibly a gear hauler. And on the way home I can separate it into two bags if I picked up souvenirs or gifts.

    My only reason for not buying the Pakt One during its Kickstarter program was that it lacked the backpack "Also" capability. I use the Cotopaxi 35 right now and could use about 5 more liters to be honest. If what you are designing with Pakt is a bag that keeps their original capabilities (the best in my opinion) and hidden backpack straps, "For getting on and off the plane" as you said or for those moments, times when I wish I could put the bag on my back. I'll buy that one. the Cotopaxi is fantastic, anti access zippers but the color choices are pretty tough on a 65 year old traveler...Lacks the dignity I think I should have...LMAO

    I gotta give a shoutout to the most underrated one-bag travel backpack (in my opinion). And no one has done a review on it. The Kabig Backpack from North Face. 41L, super clean lines, not floppy, everything you need and nothing you don't. And it's $149, which is pretty reasonable for a 41L North Face backpack... Keep up the good work man!

    PLEASE make a lightly coloured imside! Gold, orange, grey, light blue yellow - but please no black pockets (or maybe as an option). And some kind of top quick grab bag which fits bigger smart phones and glasses cases. I am still on the mission for the perfect bag, but even you still have to present it to me. Maybe somewhat expandable? Side entrance? Majority of pockets needs to be zippered if you have the option to carry it sideways (my stuff always tends to fall out of normal pockets). Or maybe a leashed Rodney dongle heaven? I am trying this cutomizing thing a backpack myself. I am getting a "base bag" which I customize (I know one thing or two about saddle making, so that helps). I even made a list of requirements to a bag.
