Anchorage is warmer in the winter than some places in the continental U.S. such as Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota - including Minneapolis. However, the winters are dark because of how far north it is, and summers are cloudy and cool (high temperatures only average in the low-to-mid 60s). It’s not so much that it’s an unusually cold place; it’s more that it just never gets warm.
