    I love that you are so into the lighting, most people don't notice it. As a lighting engineer, we design with an invisible substance that you can only see the effect of. If the job is done right the user should not be aware of it.

    Great content! As an American, (a Texan specifically), who has never been to London...I absolutely love this channel! I love the history of London, and have delved deep into learning the streets, and monuments, and history of this storied and lovely city. Just recently learned, there is a difference between, The City of London, and Greater London. Or...as you British would probably say, Proper London. 😎 I really love all the historic architecture of London. Here...in America...we tear everything ancient down, (unfortunately), and replace it with boring boxy, steel and glass. A shame really. Sorry for blabbering on...I just love your content. You get a like, and have a new subscriber. ☀️

    I notice on the staff departure screen that the train reporting numbers are actually all different, as you would expect, but where you were getting confused is that trains in each have a different 2nd character, Y for Paddington, U for Abbey Wood, but by a fluke on the cutrent trial running timetable, trains passing at Farringdon (at exactly tje sane time!), just happen to have the same number in the 3rd and 4th characters.

    The Fab 4 have done it again! Well done for securing exclusive access to the Elizabeth Line stations. I have an ardent interest in architecture and industrial design and art and have followed the work on constructing the Crossrail/Elizabeth Line right from the beginning, through the Chief Engineer’s video updates and the newsletters. Now I will be able to see the ‘finished product’ through your 10 reports and enjoy your enthusiasm and humour at the same time! Many many thanks.

    35:40 The 'train numbers' are known as headcodes - used for operational reasons to identify train services and every journey on the national network has it! As the Elizabeth Line is a mainline railway (hence Crossrail) by definition they also apply!

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 2 года назад

      yeah, and the letters are said with the phonetic alphabet. Elizabeth Line services are allocated 9xxx headcodes, not traditionally used for passenger services but just using up surplus of what would've been freight headcodes (IIRC).

    At a few places in the video comments are made about how exciting it is to have a new tube line or a new underground line, including reference to the last new tube line, the Jubilee line. However, isn’t it correct that the Elizabeth Line is not a tube line, but part of a separate “mode” in the same way that Overground or DLR are different modes than Tube. This is evidenced by the different colour scheme for the roundels. Perhaps something to clarify in Notes, Queries, and Questions next week. 🙄🤔

      Haha - thanks for sparking this debate and we’ll definitely pick this up in NQQ. The capital T (Tube or tube?) is important. The Elizabeth line is definitely a tube railway but not exactly the Tube. Farringdon is one of five of the central stations that will be managed by LU…. We love a debate!

    Well I thought after watching this video, just how impressed I was with the rebuilding of Westminster station was, with its rustic colours, such a warm welcome was Westminster wondering from the cut and cover platforms to the JLE, I was amazed at the length of those escalators, were longer than those two at Angel station?.
    Researching online , 17 escalators had been fully commissioned at Canary Wharf station with the framework for 37 more had been completed at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street.
    I understand that these combine to a length of 1,603 metres, the equivalent of one mile of escalators, Farringdon is good, but preferred Westminster instead, as from what I had seen of the central section of the Elizabeth line platforms, thought they were all rather bland and of no architectural importance.

    • @chrisnix6352
      @chrisnix6352 2 года назад +3

      Ah the JLE - my first love on the Underground. Tricky to compare the architecture of a station box like Westminster to a mined station such as Farringdon. Waterloo would be a better JLE example for comparison and I think Farringdon is great. If you are a fan of Westminster you might like one of the Elizabeth line station box stations that you will see very shortly - I know I did!

      @@chrisnix6352 None the less Chris, another good video from the team, odd that the platforms at Farringdon had to signage to direct passengers to the way out, or I missed this?, no benches to sit on, was that the finished product?.
      Had seen a number of videos from The Londonist and Geoff Marshal on some of the new stations, not certain as they will compare to the team thou.
      Apparently the engineers had to lower the track at Westminster when building the new station, not certain if they did, or not, Westminster always had some sort of magic to visit, would love to see a film on the changes at Baker Street over the years, a new platform for the southbound Jubilee line… look at Camden Town as those disused doors. If it is underground will that then be added to the 272 underground stations, so therefore be included on the tube challenge?

  • @edbridges1164
    @edbridges1164 2 года назад +3

    It's the common thing! That many including myself knew would happen when a Heavy Rail Railway gets called a "Line" it isn't a Tube as the trains have all the safety systems for Network Rail! As soon as I saw they'd named CrossRail "Elizabeth Line" I knew people would almost immediately say it was a Tube "Line" when sadly it isn't! If our Mainline Railways ever get renationalised (not going there) CrossRail would be part of it as would Overground as 95% of the Overground was once before! The "Purple Trains" also are Powered by 25kV AC including the Tunnel Sections the Tube is Fourth Rail! The truth of the Matter is "is the Permanent Way Owned by TfL or Network Rail?"

    • @edbridges1164

    • @sihollett
      @sihollett 2 года назад +2

      TfL own the permanent way for all the new build sections of the Elizabeth Line. So the truth of the matter is much less clear-cut a difference than you think.
      And while there's loads of technical/organisational reasons why the Liz isn't tube, there's far fewer reasons why the general public should treat it as different. In fact TfL didn't want passengers to treat it as something different - hence the 'Line' name.

    Interesting video but I have to say that these station visits are in NO WAY exclusive. There have been numerous pres/media days at a lot of the new Elizabeth Line stations, some going back to 2018 when the line was supposed to be ready. I myself went to an Open Day at Canary Wharf station. Geoff Marshall has done a load of videos on the stations during construction and fit out. Saying it's exclusive is not true.
