The viewers question about why Queensway and Bayswater weren’t linked together reminded me of my first visit to London, when I was staying in Bayswater, and following the travel guide directions which told me to go to Queensway station to go to Kensington Palace, I walked to Bayswater, caught the train from there to Notting Hill Gate and then Central line back to Queensway. 😄
When Aldwych was operational up until 1994, they used to hold the lift at the top level until the train was due. A bell used to sound in the lift when the shuttle train was about to leave Holborn, signalling the lift operator to take the lift downstairs

Hadn’t used that Aldwych station for 27 years since it closed, surprised that it hadn’t been demolished and an office block built on the site.

Aldwych was the first disused station I ever visited many years ago, and I’ve been back numerous times.
I love its history and preservation.
Having used it occasionally when it was open it always feels a little surreal when I visit it now.

When I was first in London in the 90s I used Aldwych station to make a journey that might have been quicker on foot! Then it closed. Later I used to pass through Mornington Crescent when it almost became a Hidden London hangout 😀
I sort of recognise the 'anybody' in that tone of voice. Something like Alaistair Sim's character in St. Trinians.

Without a doubt the London underground is truly amazing, I would love to explore old stations and tunnels.
I would love to see the shuttle service opened to run a train of standard tube stock that predates the 1938 stock.
I know it will never happen but dreams are free.
I have just been on the tour and I have had to revisit this episode ro see if there was anything that I missed. I loved the tour, but would have liked to have gone into one of the tunnels!

Great episode I has seen Aldwych Station from the outside.thanks for showing the inside. I love tiles in the underground stations.however i have seen the tiles in the Knightsbridge Station disused passagways and stairs.the tiles are magnificent.i don,t know if you all ready have seen them or not.i stumbled on to this channel on youtube.Ghoststn 101.well worth a look.also would be great if a episode could be filmed on Hiddon London Hangouts.let me know if any of you the Fantastic Four what you thinks.Keep safe and look at the tiles.best wishes from Kevin.
Hi Kevin. Yes absolutely - Knightsbridge is on our list. It’s disused passages are quite a beautiful and will be back on show fairly soon with the new lifts. I was last there with our Patrons in November last year when I ran them a crawl of three of the Piccadilly line’s more obscure disused stations.

Yes! 2 platforms at Holborn which led down to Aldwych. One is still there. The other was filled in flat with concrete for storage/accommodation during wartime

The photos I've seen of the lifts at Aldwich remind me a little bit of the lifts that were still in use at Earl's Court when I visited in 1971.

Bless you. It’s such a tricky thing to get right because in Covid times, the virtual tours are essentially the income for the museum but we try to tantalise them on the Hangouts. You have my word the content of them is spectacular - the Brompton Road virtual tour blew my mind and I’m a sceptic by nature. Hope you to continue to enjoy the fun. Got to get through lockdown somehow, haven’t we.
@@alexgrundon2346 THIS AND BROMPTON ROAD were my haunts as a kid and young man it’s so sad to see this closed now like so many I LOVE these videos thanks for so many memories we’ve lost so much nowadays it’s sad 😞
