The best thing ever was when there was a tube strike and they woke up lots of old buses from the depot. Waiting at North Greenwich during a foggy morning I still remember how a Green Line single decker suddenly appeared.
You guys never disappoint, another fun and interesting episode. These episodes are helping fill the gap left by not being able to get underground on physical tours. And for some reason Alex’s question about Kennington Loop reminded me of the time as a child my family ended up on a french train stuck in siding and being walked up track by the driver!! Cheers team.😁👍
Great episode! Post covid, would be good to do a night in the museum in person! Also did the London Transport Museum virtual Holborn tour shortly after - Eileen and Paul were fantastic 👌
First visit for myself was sometime after 1983, having just arrived in London from Brentwood, so London was very new to me, remember buying a ticket from an old ticket office, unable to recall its name watching the videos, I loved it. I saw the Trolleybus, I remember them at Aldgate in the late 1950’s in service when Aldgate High Street was two way, I would come up on the old 721 Green Line RT’s, did you all know that the bus station at Aldgate still has an old Trolleybus traction standard still standing?. Have a look around...
My first trip to London was in 1997 and I remember riding on a Routemaster. The conductor forgot to tell me where I had to leave and made me jump while it was already moving, haha! And by the way, I still haven't seen the Museum! I have been so many times outside, but I am sure that I will need a lot of time to see it properly. My trips to London are usually so rushed!
Thanks guys. Sorry I missed it live cos Strictly. I ordered some moquette socks myself for Christmas. So excited for them to arrive. Thanks for entertaining me this year and all the best for the festive season
I've been bought the socks for Christmas !.. Thankyou all for a lovely look around the LTM. Have yourselves a very merry Christmas and I will look forward to seeing you all on Boxing Day cheers.
Really looking forward to tonight's programme, as ever! Love that shop, and bought so much from there recently as excellent place for presents of the Chrisnic kind! And to be able to support LTM - double bubble! x
Despite having just broken down (40:05) and limping into the depot, notice the glossy paint condition of the '38 Stock unit, this is the one that's been earmarked for preservation on the island, the Steam Railwsy have contributed a fair bit of cash towards kts upkeep. I originally heard that they'd have it as a static exhibit, it seems that they may be occasionally dragging it backwards and forwards on the steam line...! Here's hoping!! (Btw it was repaired and pressed back into service!!)
I am a bit behind with these videos and I expect you won't see this comment but anyway. Christmas 2019 I took 2 children I look after to the museum to meet mother and father Christmas. We made paper decorations and then had a story with santa. The children loved it and whenever we talk about Christmas now they always say we saw father Christmas at the transport museum. They were only 2 and a half at the time but still recall the event. All the best Anthony.
Are tube cars called cars when they're running on the Isle of Wight? I tried searching the Island Line's site, but they use neither car nor carriage. They referred to them as units as the new Class 484s arrived.
Technically speaking a carriage, a train of them is pulled by a locomotive. Whereas a multiple units is formed of a set of cars. The cars are self propelled, meaning no locomotive at the front of the train.

I hope you weren’t long in the siding!
@@alexgrundon2346 From memory it was about 20-30 minutes before the bemused train crew spotted us and walked us to the station.
😂🤦🏽
Thanks for the Scarborough mention again Alex!!! Having a weekend of binge watching to catch up!!
The very first time I visited the museum was when it was sited in Clapham High Street, around 68/69 !
Another excellent episode (they all are!). Great to catch up again, with so much in each episode
You’re adorable
rewatching now and looking forward to next year and maybe being over there and wearing my scarf and socks and moquette belt

Great episode thank you. have a great Christmas fantastic four.
I remember the cabs having a little chart of extra charges, how much for a passenger in the drop seat, how much for a large suitcase or trunk, etc.
Oooo I've not been yet so looking forward to seeing more, especially the shiny things in the shop?

Good question. They’re usually referred to as cars when talking about DMUs and EMUs (Diesel or electric multiple units) - dunno if that helps?
I should have bought the moquette socks.
Why do Isle of Wight use under ground trains?
Hey guys u do very good

Siddy will you marry me?
I just love this comment so much
