Just sold it off with all of the lenses to switch to Sony. I miss the stabilization but I really needed better image quality. That camera is a tank for the price too, I dropped my G85 three times and used it in whiteout blizzards and downpours and it handled it fine. To be fair, in the heat test, the Sony is doing more work. The Canon is writing more data, but that doesn't generate a lot of heat. Both cameras are compressing a raw image to a particular bitrate, the lower bitrate requires more compute power to reach as it has more compression to do. That requires a beefier processor and generates more heat, and is one of the reasons many of the Canons have such an unwieldy codec (mjpeg), they're not equipped to do better compression.

I hope the GH6(?) will have dual ISO, double the internal recording so we can get the highest compressed version of ProRes Raw. Slight improvements to the stabilizer to reduce the need for a stabilizer. HDR screen. Put in a body that has the dual batteries so they they have the room for this tech, plus more batter life. During the overheating test, the Canon is probably actually doing less work than the Sony because the Sony is applying compression & downsampling from 6k which is significantly more taxing to a processor than just straight up recording at high bit rates. You can verify this by encoding your own video with a constant rate factor that is highly compressed vs one that isn't.

I don't think removing 24p is a big deal. If i know I'm gonna export in 24p then I'll just film in 30p but with a shutter speed of 1/50 (or 1/48). In premiere it's just one click to change the frame rate of the timeline and from my testings i couldn't see any difference between shooting like that vs just shooting 24p.
I only have an eos 700D so tested with that. Now I've started filming in 30fps as it allows me to slow down the footage a bit if need be.

Here's the thing about heat on the Sonys, using the NP50 batts is a big no no since there are many decouplers that allow for USB power and shooting all day. The other consideration is these small bodies are made nor marketed for long form recording. FSx cams are set up for that. Heat is a non issue after the A6500 if decoupling and using the gear for its intended purpose

Ritesh Tandon I have both m50/viltrox and a6400. I will sell the Sony immediately when Canon will give us the 120fps fullHD that we all need. Maybe by the end of the summer with the m5ii or some new eos R. Economics and menus are not good on the Sony like bad bad and no touch screen (what!?!?) and yes, the colors are green while better on Canon without color grading.
So yes, potato jet is right there is a hole in Canon’s lineup for $1,000 between the m50 and the eos R that the a6400 (or the x-t3) is filling perfectly but no doubt that Canon will release this missing body very soon as expected (m5ii or 90D ... what !? NO, DSLR are out, unlesss the 90D becomes a mirrorless ... well then it’s a m5ii lol). Can’t wait August 28th!!!

@@freddumartin7878 you are right about the fact sony on paper does sound a lot better but you got to agree since you have m50/viltrox that it must be sweet picking up nifty fifty lense at throw away prices and using it on a 500$ camera and get images and video nearly equivalent of a full frame camera. Sony also have speedbooster in the market but all the review said they mess up the sweet sweet focus which is a shame also second hand market of lenses is rulled by canon with that combination I feel I would never get bored of canon m50.

Cool video! Minor correction: When recording in a higher bitrate, processors actually do LESS. The lower the bitrate, the more compressed the image, and it's the compression that takes the most horsepower. Of course higher bitrates require more out of your SD card, so if that's the main culprit for the heating issue then you're right.

Potato Jet good video, Sony is definitely the best company. I had a great Canon Sx50hs but they killed it with lack of hotshoe in latest model. I'm now getting a Sony Rx10 IV a fantastic all round camera. Will be recording videos of friends cover band, but mainly I'm a nature photographer. Sony seem to be one of the few companies, that improve newer versions rather than the kill them off by removing features etc.

This kind of advise may be misleading for someone buying their first camera. You don't by a camera, you buy a system. As switching systems is usually expensive, the first important decision is to consider the system as a whole. In my case, I switched from EOS to M4/3 a couple of years ago, and now I would have to change again unfortunately (probably for Sony)
