All these comments about M-mount being discontinued are so weird. The M mount was irrelevant from the start. The whole point of the camera was getting a cheap wicked body that you could adapt or speed boost DSLR lenses on. And the camera will stay that way even after Canon releases an R mount aps-c which will probably be this exact camera with a mount change let's be honest. I like how nobody is calling old DSLRs irrelevant when they have LESS lens options than this camera as they can't use M lenses. The talking point makes zero sense. The amount of quality glass being produced for EF-S/EF mount means mount type is irrelevant so long as adapters are available. Buy Sigma lenses and never look back. Speed boost them if you like. This camera is the best value under 1k.
I wanted the M50 ii but I ended up getting the SL3. It is practically the same camera but it's a DSLR instead of a mirrorless. And (in my country) I was able to get the SL3 + kit lens + 50 mm 1.8 lens for the same price of the M50ii + kit lens only.

I shot with the successor to this camera, the M5, almost exclusively on a trip to England and Scotland two years ago. Given that technology two years ago with the M5, I got some money shots. In fact, I used the M5 95% of the time versus the EOS R. If I was to do a trip like that again, I would leave my pro mirrorless gear at home and rely on the M50ii.

Yess, i used the Canon M50 for so long, even payed projects (with speedbooster, L-Glass and cage to look legit) and still use it for Vlogging stuff. Love that thing and always recommend it. Bummer the Mark II had no real upgrade but still a great camera!
Had the Canon M50 as my first “vlogging camera”. When the Canon M50 M II came out I decided to sell the M50 and just upgrade to the M6 M II instead as I was disappointed in what really looked to be just a firmware upgrade. Already had a few lenses (Canon and Sigma) and didn’t want to sell everything so landed with the M6 M II. Added a small rig to the bottom to solve the flip up screen issue. In the end I’m just an amateur though lol 🤷🏻♂️
@@WasionKey Honestly I never really did a comparison but dug up from a source that it’s about a 30% increase in longevity. Pretty decent then 👍🏻 “Average” compared with others in its class though.
Last summer I dropped my M50 and the screen stopped working too. Had the big 18-35 1.8 Sigma on it and all in a padded LowePro tote bag. Got off a zero-gravity chair and then it fell off the chair on the dirt group, screen side towards the ground. I replaced the screen myself but that didn't solve it. Sent it to a repair center (not Canon) that had to replaced something else - $250. Canon's repair center told me it would be a minimum of $250 not matter what the issue. I thought that maybe the screen I got from Ebay was bad. The center that repaired it said if it was a screen they'd do it for $125, so that's why I didn't send it to Canon. That Sigma lens is pretty heavy, otherwise if I had a smaller lens I believe the small 2 1/2 foot drop in a padded bag onto a dirt ground would not have caused any damage.
I love my M50. Always have and when i added the Sigma 16mm f1.4 I fell in love all over again. The nifty 50 withe speed booster also works great for me. I still would like the m6 mkii and the sigma 24-70 f 2.8 so I can start shooting in 4K.
After potato always using his professional camera for soo long time and feed us with filmic images, when he switched to M50 and shows Dylan footage talking story blocks, I start to feelthe image looks video-ish. Does not mean it's bad, i'm just saying wow that such a quite difference on images looks!
Nice video as usual! The best quote to refer to the M50 is "it looks decent" ;D I'm still using two of the original M50s. I turn down the sharpness a bit, but besides that I agree it does look good out of the camera. I finally picked up the M6 mark ii so I could get DPAF in 4k and use it with the Atomos Ninja V.
@he1chy v2 No it's in the camera settings called "picture style". Under the default "guided" menu you select "shooting settings", press OK, and then go to tab 3 with the option "picture style". In there you can select different pre-made options and/or customize them by pressing the "info" button. In the customization page you've got sharpness, contrast, saturation, and color tone that can be adjusted with sliders.
I love my m50 and still use it but I don’t recommend it over the zv1 or zv e10. For someone looking at their first camera I tend to steer them to the zv1 since it is a great pocketable camera that has very good low light capability out of the box and no crop on the 4K. Allows you to record 4K and crop in post for those dramatic shots. The extra $100 is worth it. Or extra 200 for the e10 if you want the flexibility of detachable lenses.
I just got both cameras. And i record outside and the white is so outblown in the zv1. M50 levels it down to not make the video look too white. Im trying to figure out how to fix this or im gonna have to return it

Loving how much you love the M50 and you can really get a nice image out of it. Can you please do a color grading video with footage shot on the M50?
I wanted the M50 ii but I ended up getting the SL3. It is practically the same camera but it's a DSLR instead of a mirrorless.
And (in my country) I was able to get the SL3 + kit lens + 50 mm 1.8 lens for the same price of the M50ii + kit lens only.
This new setup is amazing!
Dylan truly is a GOAT
I'm early ! Gene eating Oaxaca cheese randomly was just fun. XD I bingewatched all the Gene Nagata Channel and now it seems like I have to just bingewatch Potato Jet too :3 just gotta do it.
Nice video! I think I needed to hear this instead of obsessing on the latest and greatest.
Me super excited seeing the M50 ii being covered by Potato Jet about a month after buying it🥺🔥
Thanks for adding the comparative with the ZV-10e, I think I will go for Sony this time.
That wedding video looked great! Even at 720!
Just a shot in the dark, I'm guessing the M in camera name and EF-M stands for mirrorless. I know there's also the RF mounts but these came out first.
The only ad read that i did not skip.
I love the m50, was great for starting my vlogs and my only gripe is lens options, which isn't the camera itself's fault
I LOVED how you used Storyblocks to explain the forehead, LOL. I personally use the Canon M50 Mark II and Canon M50 Mark I as my main cameras. I am very happy with the results and can see myself using this for a few more years before upgrading.
Missed your weekly videos! Hopefully everything is all settled with your new setup!! (maybe full kitchen later) And ask Kari what she thinks about your new "lip ring" at 12:30
Love the new set
Up Boy Meets Karl Urban. Love the video and the M50, as you said the footage looks so good out of the camera.
The M50 II seems like an ideal camera for people to take on their family vacation or for people to take to their child's school play.
I shot with the successor to this camera, the M5, almost exclusively on a trip to England and Scotland two years ago. Given that technology two years ago with the M5, I got some money shots. In fact, I used the M5 95% of the time versus the EOS R. If I was to do a trip like that again, I would leave my pro mirrorless gear at home and rely on the M50ii.
just about to buy my very first camera, and i am looking on this specific model to start. thank you for the Review. very beautiful content. Thank you. YUDABES!
I love my M50, I have a bit of tough time with the autofocus sometimes, but other than that it's an AMAZING camera !
I've been watching your videos and I really like your style. You have tons of great info. Im gonna take your film course. Looking forward to learning how to film on my canon m50 m ii.
Yess, i used the Canon M50 for so long, even payed projects (with speedbooster, L-Glass and cage to look legit) and still use it for Vlogging stuff. Love that thing and always recommend it. Bummer the Mark II had no real upgrade but still a great camera!
Makes me want to upgrade. I'm still using the Canon G7x mark ii. Thank you for your perspective and all the great information.
Always watching and wishes I have one M50 mark II, great video
I appreciate your thoughts on the camera! I’m considering it as my first step into photography with a “real” camera
In the end I’m just an amateur though lol 🤷🏻♂️
how's the battery in comparison?
@@WasionKey Honestly I never really did a comparison but dug up from a source that it’s about a 30% increase in longevity. Pretty decent then 👍🏻 “Average” compared with others in its class though.
I see the kitchen is coming around!
Coincidence! It’s still my go to camera.
This is a really great video Thanks!
What a great review. But, can someone explain what time recording it can do in 1 take for overheat or automatically stop? Thanks
Only 20 min take, no overheating on mine yet
I still run the OG Canon m5. Love the size and capabilities.
i enjoyed watching that 60 seconds broll scene 😊 amazing
I love my M50. Always have and when i added the Sigma 16mm f1.4 I fell in love all over again. The nifty 50 withe speed booster also works great for me. I still would like the m6 mkii and the sigma 24-70 f 2.8 so I can start shooting in 4K.
What is a speed booster
I wish I had the Canon M50 Mark2 it looks awesome.
I want one of these so baddd. Trying to get this side hustle and career change started.
fun and cool footage, my dude!
The tread lightly shirt ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is random but a bit of your video on the Arri Alexa Lf is in the new beast react video
OHHHH!!! That was YOU GUYS at the Portland Japanese Garden!
I had both the m50 and G85 and really liked the g85 a lot better as far as usability and image quality.
Im trying to figure out how to fix this or im gonna have to return it
@@klolz1740 if everything is set to automatic then hit the Fn button go to ND and turn it on. Typically I run in movie mode with shutter priority and set shutter to 1/50 or 1/60 depending if I’m running 24p or 30p respectively. With everything else set automatic and just change the ND filter when I go outside. Make sure your exposure setting is between 0.0 and +0.7 too much higher the image will be blown out and lower than 0.0 will be too dark.
I've signed up for everything Dylan has ever talked about on your channels. Please, PLEASE, stop having him do the ads. I can't afford it anymore.
Congrats to the newlyweds :) Who is the other young lady that was on a scooter - she has great camera presence...
I am from India and I love your video's you inspired me to start creating video's .
