AirPlay to Mac is here! I think this is one of the best features that Apple has brought to the Mac in years!!! In this video I will show you how to set it up and configure this new setting. Let me know if you have any questions!

What about wired usb connection from Mac to Mac?
According to Apple you can use USB connection
between supported devices for reduced latency when using this feature connecting two macs directly to each other

I fn love you. I just spent about 4 hours trying to fn connect my MacBook Pro 2017 to an iMac M1 2021 for a second monitor. Hours. I tried thunderbolt 3 by simply connecting and doing the command+F2, nothing, target display mode- found out after 3hrs in the search that that was dead. Then I came upon this video.. the holy fn Grail! F Mac. But love Mac. Thank you sir may you continue to help those in despair.

@@KadinYu Yes, and it works fine. Haven't had any issues with it. The only downside is my work MacBook Pro that was given to me by my company and is maintained by them is still running Catalina, so the max resolution it can AirPlay over is 1080p. Everything Big Sur and up does 4K over AirPlay.

Airplay from I-phone is great, however I have noticed if you airplay content from I-phone to mac, you seem unable to adjust the volume on the Mac from your I-phone. When casting this video for example I am unable to control volume, that seem a poor integration fault, particularly as videos that you mirror have different volume levels. Can I confirm if you also have this issue.. I-Phone 13 pro

I have a question about resolution. When I connect via a Cat7 ethernet cable I am now able to make my resolution 3840x2160 (not available by wireless airplay). I tested my resolution via a screenshot and also a check my resolution website and it says 3840x2160. How can that be since my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX tells me the max is 2560x1440? A happy surprise if true!

Many grieved Apple killed the Target Display Mode feature when the iMac displays got retina resolution. This would potentially bring it back in a new way. I guess a lot of people want to use this method to use their old 5k iMac as a monitor. However, you're demonstrating that this does not give you full resolution on display. Would a wired connection (eg. ethernet) help to get you the full resolution? I'm also wondering if it's possible to connect your Mac Mini headless to the iMac. This would give you the opportunity to upgrade your 5K iMac to an M1 Mac for the cost of a Mac Mini... Would be cool.

I am trying to find a way to use my 2012 MacBook Pro in conjunction with a 27" 2020 iMac (Intel, newly purchased, still on Catalina). The MBP has to stay on a pre-Catalina macOS to continue running 32-bit software. Ideally, I would like to physically connect the two to avoid latency but am also uncertain what kind of resolution I might see or what cable to buy (I have heard that cabling choice also impacts resolution). Additionally another comment here suggests that none of this works on Catalina. (Confused because I see that AirPlay is in my iMac System Preferences menu under Catalina.) Awesome Video. I was just curious if a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 cable would work. AS that would allow wired connection between a new M1 Mac and on old Intel laptop like the 2016 MacBook Air?

My iMac 27" 2017 i7 on Monterey does not seem to have any capacity to be a receiver which seems contrary to what your say here. It doesn't even have the check box in the sharing settings.

So I have a MacBook Air M1 and it only supports one external display. If I were to conenct the second display to say, an appleTV, would I be able to extend my desktop to the 2nd display via appleTV?

Can this be used as a workaround to have a second extended display connected to the Air M1, that's not a mirror of anything?

    What about wired mirroring ?
Supposedly you can USB connection with AirPlay for reduced latency.

So I have a Question and hopefully someone is still here for answering:
Will I be able to connect an external display via a wire and an second display via an AppleTV?
    On an M1 MacBookAir?
Found this nowhere and don't want to buy an AppleTV for nothing.
    Thanks mates.

I used OCLP0.1.9 to build the macOS12 USB installer and reinstalled macOS12 on my iMac14,2 and now the AirPlay Receiver is out and working.
    Now there are 2 problems.
    1. iMac through AirPlay as an extended display, the resolution can only go up to 1080p, and cannot use iMac default resolution display.
    2. Even if you use Ethernet connection, you will feel the high latency.
PS: My other mac is MacBook Air M1

In order to use the wired connection - what would I need to do? Just plug in a USB-C cable or does it need to be thunderbolt 3? Is it limited to 4k?

I'm not finding Airplay receiver in Sharing and Apple says they no longer allow for using thuderbolt connections with cmd F2. Do you have a work around? Thx

ok check this out, I have a macbook air 2019 right now, and a monitor, my plan is to buy a mac mini m1 for my work, I want to connect my mac mini m1 to my monitor via hdmi cable, however here comes the issue, I want to be able to use my macbook air as a second monitor for the mini m1 but also since I have no keyboard I would like to use my macbook air as the keyboard and mousetrack, but I want all the processing done by my M1 MAC mini, is that possible ?

Successfully installed the Monterey release on an iMac 12.1. The toggle for 'airplay to Mac' shows up under the sharing pref however I don't seem to be able to connect to the mac as it can't be found by other devices. Do you seem to know any fix for this issue? Keep up the good work!

do you have to have an  tv box for this to work? I want to purchase a new iMac m1 and use it as a second screen for my MBP 2019 model, running Monterey ... would that work

    • @Mr.Macintosh
      @Mr.Macintosh  2 года назад

Hello Lisa, YES that would work, your 2019 MBPro could use the M1 iMac as a 2nd screen. The idea behind Airplay is that it makes any mac that is compatible work just like an AppleTV! Pretty neat huh?

Great video, I have a question: do you know if the target mac's external displays (if any) would also be usable from the transmitting mac? So, for instance, if you were to connect some monitor to your M1 iMac and then airplay from your macbook to the iMac as you did in this video, would the macbook have access to 4 displays in total (including its built-in one)? Is there a limit to this? I'm guessing the external displays in the target mac would not be usable though, but I can dream :)

What I can’t figure out is the size of the screen on the receiver since my M1 13 inch is the sender and my late 2018 15 inch is the receiver but the 13 inch signal looks small on the receiver, how can I make is bigger?
