Excellent practical description of what I learned as ‘star’ - ‘delta’ winding configurations (many years ago!) In fact, probably better than my college tutor. Thanks for the great content.
I like your way of just checking the winding directly, removing any other factors, and of course, enables you to compare the winding's resistance to see if any individual one is abnormally high or low. I'm not an electrician, I'm a computer systems engineer, so I deal with tiny motors and low voltages but the diagnostic principles are the same.
Good idea about removing the plates, it makes sense. There may not often be corrosion between them and the terminals, but as you say, in doing it, you are taking that possibility away from the start. Great tip!🙂
I respect for what you do. Its good and very fast testing to see abnormalities on motor windings by winding resistancte test using multimeter and also if you check insulation to body. Maybe you found something. Some motors are working, but insulation is poor. It will work but not for so long until the real problem was found. Any way. I salute you for what you do. God bless and more power to you sir.
Great examples and clearly showing why and how you do this, I am sure it will help the newer people tremendously. It is a great thing to pass knowledge to newer people, and point them in the right direction. Very well done.🙂
my vesel.is same as yours..like sister vessel..i also have elevator door not closing problem...our elevator is also same as your..so your elevator video helps me for finding fault..L.o pump system.is also same as mine
I just came across your Channel today and I have seen a lot of resources here also I have learnt some new things. Kudos to you and I have click the follow button.
At the first when ME LO pump trips, the oil pressure drops to the level that ME will shut down but not slow down. The second need to check not only main motor terminals and also main motor contractor. The third also need to check with clamp ammeter current for each phase. And the forth listen carefully main motor bearings.
Theres a safety system in control which automatically puts main engine in slow down mode... Secondly if one lube oil motor trips then other is always standby.. When main engine automatically slows down then they start another lube oil pump but fault rectifying is still pending where this all thing comes.. And whenever theres a motor tripping no one checks the contactor.. Everybody goes for then insulation checks of the winding to first ensure that the winding is ok because eocr was tripped.. Hope u understood tollix
If to pause the video where the Aconis alarm list, it is clearly view the ME Shut down alarm due to low LO pressure. Of course first step is to check the motor. If the motor is OK it is also good to check the main motor contractor for wear.
I use megger to test it. Sometimes the motor inside has burns but they still have good resisance or still have continuity. Megger allows you to test it by giving it actual voltage for accuracy
Its good that you make these videos. But please say something about proper isolations, LOTO and permit to work next time. There are a lot of people watching. Thanks!
Hey leckyjake, So glad I found your channel. I love the content and learn a ton. I'm an industrial electritian in a metal container factory... We make aluminium beverage cans. But ive always wanted to work on ships. I have binged all of your videos and cant wait for more. Love your means of trobleshooting and how well you explane things. Keep up the great work and really cant wait for more. I mean 3 hour videos a day and I would be a happy boy. Lol. Hope you can do a live stream one day so I can say hello.

Hey Jake: Good explanation but I'd never rely on multimeter tests alone to prove or condemn a motor. The voltage from a multimeter is too low, you need a good insulation tester as well.

sir ..I m E/O .i have a problem for 440low voltage insulation ,it is showing 0.1 ,so i have switched off/on all the breakers one by one.only by switching off galley little bit insulation meter move down ,but still showing 0.2 anf some time 0 night time also...pls advice
Finding the earth fault should be done by switching all off the breakers and not one by one. Then start switching back on one by one and observe which breaker will cause the earth fault
sir,i have found the low insulation from reefers..from 9 breakers low insulation is coming..and reefers onboard now is 100 only..it means low insulation is coming from all the reefer distribution box.its big issue.i have to check all sockets one by one..any advise sir
mostly your videos are correct and good for beginners....but i feel like you lack of theoretical knowledge... What is your education? NOT correct to conduct any of resistance measuring in delta connected windings.... ...and this is not your method this is simply correct method. In one of your videos I have seen that you replace the burned diode hoping that board will work again... It hopeless ...burned diode rather is the consequence than the cause ...
Amazing explanation!!!
Thank you for putting so much effort to share knowledge!
Thanks for the support
One of the better explanations of motor windings I've seen

how to check megger alternator of generator please

Insulation resistance should not be measured with a multimeter
why?
