I don’t think my parents ever liked each other. They just learnt to tolerate each other. I can’t really fault them. My mum is insufferable, and dad is obnoxious. Took my Dad 3 years to start liking my Mum, and it didn’t even last long. In his defence my Mum is nuts and quite a bit older than my Dad. *EDIT:* For everyone asking; my parents were never married, I was a mistake and my Mum is 9 years older than my Dad. I have a twin sister who is exactly like my Dad and he adore her. My Mum also had my half brother too and my brother is only 15 years younger than my Dad which is another reason my Dad wasn’t so into my Mum. She also has a lot of mental and physical issues; compulsive liar and physically disabled ((not a lie)) which I also think my Dad really didn’t like about my Mum. But he’s also a narcissist so I got the best of both Worlds. I think my Mum was really only physically interested in my Dad tbh and really pressured him into a relationship, but ended up regretting because he’s also a worse person than her. Don’t get me wrong, I love both my parents, but they do definitely have major red flags. And honestly so do I, so I can’t really judge.

this was exactly my experience 😭 people are different, and for me i knew that i wanted to be with this man, but would keep going back and forth on it. ive had many times where i felt like i truly knew, and other times where i genuinely had no idea. now that i know him well, i just can’t deny it anymore.
My dad and mom are an annoyingly sweet love story of instant soulmates. Its like the notebook, i swear, the ending and all! And its even weirder because it shouldnt have been possible: she just came from being cheated on by her high school sweetheart turned fiance and was very heartbroken/ unwilling to trust, and dad was a total womanizer.... the last person who shouldve been able to win her over. And they're total opposites-- she's the sweet patient angel while he's allergic to showing emotions (Surpisingly, they did a good job of using each other's love languages though. He told her he loved her, and she did little acts of sevice-- they both knew that's what the other wanted.) My dad always said how he knew after the first date. He literally walked out of that date thinking "I'm going to spend my life with her". (Apparently, there was something there for both because they discussed spending the night wasn't an option cuz she was off Brth control). I honestly never believed my dad because he's just not a loving person. It didn't matter what happened, he wouldn't show or admit love. But then when I was 10, my mom got diagnosed with a horrendous rare disease with no hope other than 3 organ transplant (which has a 95% chance of failing). It's also a sneaky one. The symptoms don't slowly progress, giving you warnings she's getting worse and nearing the end. She had a friend that had no symptoms, then had a heart attack and died 2 weeks later. My dad stuck with her, shouldering all the chores she could no longer do. Even if it was hard and frustrated him, it wasn't important to him. After she died, he said he wished he had figured it out before she got sick: that he "didn't care how, as long as he could be with her. Money, trucks, toys-- none of that was worth fighting her over."
Funny story: a guy approached me first day of 8th grade because I was being "boring" (walmart/hand me down emo reading Poe in a corner, so original I know) and I thought he was cute instantly. We become friends, my best friend takes time to warm up to him but they seem to have a lot in common and he ends up asking her out a year later. She asked me what I thought on the matter before she answered him and whole it hurt a bit I didnt know why it hurt (figured it was just "another friend getting a bf but syill not me"), didn't tell her that, and just told her to go for it if she wanted to. I don't find out the rest of the story until a year later. See he thought I was cute when he forst approached but that I was clearly in a dark place and didn't know why. Especially when I turned out to be a perky person and welcomed him into my friends group of 2. But it turned out he had more in common with my best friend and didn't think I liked him because I was shy, oblivious, and thought someone liking me was impossible... so he asked her out. Our friendship grows during the school year and I go visit fam for the summer but we keep in touch. I start to figure out I like this guy. My dad loses his job because budget cuts across the industry he works in due to some government decision and I might have to move permanently but I don't find that out until the end of summer. Guy asks me to a movie and I say yes for when I get back. Turns out the guy is talking to his friends about our agreed not a date and the friends are waiting for him to put 2 and 2 together. I get back, we go to the movie and then Dad tells us we may have to move. I'm heart broken and finally I acknowledge my own feelings but am still in the mindset that no guy likes me. I tell my friends that I might move and we are all bummed. He tells his friends and is all bummed and they are like "dude really? You only talk about her a lot just ask her out" "but she might move" "so not definitely?" "But what if it ruins the-" "why would it? Y'all talk about everything already and if it does ruin it she might move." "Idk, I-" "chicken shit." He set up a group outing with me and my best friend and secretly asked her not to show. Asked me to be his gf and I legit forgot how to breath until he panicked and was like "JK!". Now I'm a little disappointed but wondering if I should bring it up. I tell my older sis and she laughs at me and feels bad for him cause I spooked him. His mom encourages him because "You said she's shy right? And that she's iffy on the whole idea of love outside of fiction?... yeah she panicked. You didn't get a no and she didn't laugh at you so try again." Two days later he asks me out after school in the rain. We'll 10 years later we got married and we are about to celebelrate our 3rd anniversary so yeah. We knew but we didn't know? TLDR: We each thought the other was cute but took way too long figuring out we liked each other and have been together nearly 13 years.
the truest thing about relationships and "love" that ive ever heard is that love isn't necessarily just the butterflies in your stomach or the heart ache you get when you're apart, its the willingness to forgive after an argument or mistake, the effort to makeup for a blunder or lapse of judgment, its the work taken to keep a relationship from crumbling into pieces before either of you even knew what was built. True love is effort and work, beyond the minimal and above the expectations

I dont think my parents ever liked each other. They had an arrange marriage, my mom was very opinionated and loud but was mentally prepared to be agreeable and likeable after marriage and my dad wasn't man enough to even have an opinion of his own, he always followed his elder brother, but tried to be more independent after marriage. They both initially just tried to fit in with each other. Its 20+ years now, they are more open about how they are, can be emotionally open to each other, enjoy each others company, share jokes, and have built a great friendship with each other. But who loves whom? My mother thinks she loves more, she sacrifices more and she expresses more through gifts, and planned surprises, spoiling him with his favourite things and saving to book for him a day off to home. Whilst my father is emotionally unexpressive, he thinks he loves my mom more and just isn't able to express it enough, while she doesn't realize it. He praises my mom indirectly, avoids arguments, tries to subtly express his care when she feels down, and is kind to her. They refuse to acknowledge each others love, but are content with each others companianship and friendship rn. And Its the hardest to see both the sides oh so clearly and still be unable to show them each others love through my eyes. They just have different love languages!

funny how that works. when my husband met me, he knew instantly that he liked me, but i was still observing him to be sure he was a good guy. we got engaged after 3 months, then married 4 months later. in the engagement period, i was still skeptical and had my doubts, but then remembered a quote i heard about choosing a guy that loves you more than you love him because that's the one that will treat you right. 2 years later, it couldn't be more true and i have no regrets ♡ yes, it did take me significantly longer to like actually fall in love with him too, but my initial decision to marry him was based off of the fact that our values and future goals aligned, and i was just really comfortable to be myself around him.

hey, take your time! it's exactly the same with me. after 2 years, i'm finally starting to feel real attraction and love for the guy that i married. personally, i think that it's good and more real when love grows slowly as opposed to unrealistic "love at first sight". that might work for some, but definitely not everyone. gals like us are just more cautious and want to be sincere with our emotions.

It definitely depends on each person if and when they fall in love. But for the most part I think that initial attraction and interest is either there or it's not🤷♀️

My husband and I were acquaintances to friends for about a year and a half, didn't talk for 3 years, became best friends within 2 weeks of reconnecting, and then I fell in love with him a few months later. A few months later he realized that he had feelings for me, and then a few more months later, nearly a year after we reconnected, he asked me out. We've been together nearly 7.5 years and married 5.5 of them.
People don’t realize that true love isn’t always at first sight. I personally think that most strong relationships stem from a foundation of a strong friendship beforehand. 😊

this was exactly my experience 😭 people are different, and for me i knew that i wanted to be with this man, but would keep going back and forth on it. ive had many times where i felt like i truly knew, and other times where i genuinely had no idea. now that i know him well, i just can’t deny it anymore.
My dad and mom are an annoyingly sweet love story of instant soulmates. Its like the notebook, i swear, the ending and all! And its even weirder because it shouldnt have been possible: she just came from being cheated on by her high school sweetheart turned fiance and was very heartbroken/ unwilling to trust, and dad was a total womanizer.... the last person who shouldve been able to win her over. And they're total opposites-- she's the sweet patient angel while he's allergic to showing emotions (Surpisingly, they did a good job of using each other's love languages though. He told her he loved her, and she did little acts of sevice-- they both knew that's what the other wanted.)
My dad always said how he knew after the first date. He literally walked out of that date thinking "I'm going to spend my life with her". (Apparently, there was something there for both because they discussed spending the night wasn't an option cuz she was off Brth control). I honestly never believed my dad because he's just not a loving person. It didn't matter what happened, he wouldn't show or admit love. But then when I was 10, my mom got diagnosed with a horrendous rare disease with no hope other than 3 organ transplant (which has a 95% chance of failing). It's also a sneaky one. The symptoms don't slowly progress, giving you warnings she's getting worse and nearing the end. She had a friend that had no symptoms, then had a heart attack and died 2 weeks later.
My dad stuck with her, shouldering all the chores she could no longer do. Even if it was hard and frustrated him, it wasn't important to him. After she died, he said he wished he had figured it out before she got sick: that he "didn't care how, as long as he could be with her. Money, trucks, toys-- none of that was worth fighting her over."
Rare diseases like this always struck couples with true love 😩

Funny story: a guy approached me first day of 8th grade because I was being "boring" (walmart/hand me down emo reading Poe in a corner, so original I know) and I thought he was cute instantly. We become friends, my best friend takes time to warm up to him but they seem to have a lot in common and he ends up asking her out a year later.
She asked me what I thought on the matter before she answered him and whole it hurt a bit I didnt know why it hurt (figured it was just "another friend getting a bf but syill not me"), didn't tell her that, and just told her to go for it if she wanted to. Well I dont remeber if she was a no show or not but I know when they talked again she was like... "yeah actually we have TOO much in common... you like girls..." and he's like "ok cool, thats actually great cuz I'm not sure how far this would've gone cuz your kinda a bro." I don't find out the rest of the story until a year later.
See he thought I was cute when he forst approached but that I was clearly in a dark place and didn't know why. Especially when I turned out to be a perky person and welcomed him into my friends group of 2. But it turned out he had more in common with my best friend and didn't think I liked him because I was shy, oblivious, and thought someone liking me was impossible... so he asked her out.
Our friendship grows during the school year and I go visit fam for the summer but we keep in touch. I start to figure out I like this guy. My dad loses his job because budget cuts across the industry he works in due to some government decision and I might have to move permanently but I don't find that out until the end of summer. Guy asks me to a movie and I say yes for when I get back. Turns out the guy is talking to his friends about our agreed not a date and the friends are waiting for him to put 2 and 2 together.
I get back, we go to the movie and then Dad tells us we may have to move. I'm heart broken and finally I acknowledge my own feelings but am still in the mindset that no guy likes me. I tell my friends that I might move and we are all bummed. He tells his friends and is all bummed and they are like "dude really? You only talk about her a lot just ask her out" "but she might move" "so not definitely?" "But what if it ruins the-" "why would it? Y'all talk about everything already and if it does ruin it she might move." "Idk, I-" "chicken shit."
He set up a group outing with me and my best friend and secretly asked her not to show. Asked me to be his gf and I legit forgot how to breath until he panicked and was like "JK!". Now I'm a little disappointed but wondering if I should bring it up. I tell my older sis and she laughs at me and feels bad for him cause I spooked him. His mom encourages him because "You said she's shy right? And that she's iffy on the whole idea of love outside of fiction?... yeah she panicked. You didn't get a no and she didn't laugh at you so try again."
Two days later he asks me out after school in the rain. We'll 10 years later we got married and we are about to celebelrate our 3rd anniversary so yeah. We knew but we didn't know?
TLDR: We each thought the other was cute but took way too long figuring out we liked each other and have been together nearly 13 years.

the truest thing about relationships and "love" that ive ever heard is that love isn't necessarily just the butterflies in your stomach or the heart ache you get when you're apart, its the willingness to forgive after an argument or mistake, the effort to makeup for a blunder or lapse of judgment, its the work taken to keep a relationship from crumbling into pieces before either of you even knew what was built. True love is effort and work, beyond the minimal and above the expectations

I dont think my parents ever liked each other. They had an arrange marriage, my mom was very opinionated and loud but was mentally prepared to be agreeable and likeable after marriage and my dad wasn't man enough to even have an opinion of his own, he always followed his elder brother, but tried to be more independent after marriage. They both initially just tried to fit in with each other. Its 20+ years now, they are more open about how they are, can be emotionally open to each other, enjoy each others company, share jokes, and have built a great friendship with each other.
But who loves whom?
My mother thinks she loves more, she sacrifices more and she expresses more through gifts, and planned surprises, spoiling him with his favourite things and saving to book for him a day off to home. Whilst my father is emotionally unexpressive, he thinks he loves my mom more and just isn't able to express it enough, while she doesn't realize it. He praises my mom indirectly, avoids arguments, tries to subtly express his care when she feels down, and is kind to her.
They refuse to acknowledge each others love, but are content with each others companianship and friendship rn. And Its the hardest to see both the sides oh so clearly and still be unable to show them each others love through my eyes.
They just have different love languages!

funny how that works. when my husband met me, he knew instantly that he liked me, but i was still observing him to be sure he was a good guy. we got engaged after 3 months, then married 4 months later. in the engagement period, i was still skeptical and had my doubts, but then remembered a quote i heard about choosing a guy that loves you more than you love him because that's the one that will treat you right. 2 years later, it couldn't be more true and i have no regrets ♡ yes, it did take me significantly longer to like actually fall in love with him too, but my initial decision to marry him was based off of the fact that our values and future goals aligned, and i was just really comfortable to be myself around him.

I used a dating app to meet my now-wife (2 months married this week!), even though she really didn't seem up my alley and I sent her a "Like" just since she was really pretty and was sure I had no chance.
It took under 2 months to find herself emotionally bursting to say she loved me (she knew before though). It took me 3 months, and a couple of arguments (you don't know it's love until you've seen each other at low points), but she was my first to who I said I loved (not the first time I've been told "I love you" though).
Date around, but don't get serious unless you're exclusive. That's a takeaway I'll share.
My mom and dad were so in love in the beginning. My mom complains a lot about my dad, I've heard so many horrible stories and so many reasons why she shouldn't have stayed, but I will never forget the look on her face when she told me about how hard she fell for him.
