    In this video I show you how to remove the seat skins in a car. You may need to figure out how to remove the seat in your car, this video was recorded on a 1998 Volvo V70. For safety purposes, disconnect the battery to prevent the airbag from deploying or setting off a error code that you will not be able to reset.

    I also used zip ties to reassemble the leather upholstery on my Honda when I replaced the heated seat. The biggest problem I had was removing the big clips and I was not in any position to go through the hassle of putting those things back in. My leather was also worn a little bit but not ripped. It would be nice to replace that at some point but right now I don't have that kind of money.

      Michael Sackstein If you find a good set in the junk yard, they usually sell them for $35 per seat.

      Robert DIY Hey Robert, When you say $35 per seat, Do you mean for the bottom, the back and the head rest when applicable? Do they charge more than that for cloth or vinyl or leather? I have an 02 mustang that I am trying to RE-DO with/for my son. I have stopped trying to go to the junk yard because I had such a hard time finding anything for any of my mustangs. (88 5.0 fast back, 95,97,99 and 02) I have not tried in years but trying to buy everything new is just so expensive. So I am spending a LOT of time on your videos, looking for ways to do stuff ourselves and to save $$. Appreciate any help and thanks for taking the time to make these great videos. You are a great help!

      Junk yards are trying to be a better service for profit sake. An entire seat, leather and powered is usually about $35 each.

    Whoa! I need to see more of the process where you did something to secure the air bag deployment module. This has been one of the things which I've been concerned about - I'm reluctant to work on something where the air bag might EXPLODE. I've never been in a car when an air bag went off but have had a couple of friends tell me it was like a shotgun going off in a phone booth. Kids have been KILLED when their air bag blew. It's naturally something that requires extra care. Could you go over the details of that process some more?

    Thanks for the new video Robert! My drivers side seat is getting very worn on my S70 on the left torso top part of the seat. Was trying to figure out what to do about that as well....now my question for you is if I had that replaced with black vinyl instead of black leather (like all the seats currently are.) would it visually look any different? I don't care how it feels but am curious whether it would look different than my passenger and rear seats if I only replaced the skin on the drivers side

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  10 лет назад

      nicholas petersen Not really. As stated in the video, most of the seat is already vinyl.

    Hey Robert - I have a 99 v70 XC. I pulled a whole driver's seat from a 98 v70 and I'm reading that there's more than a few differences (seat belt attachment and SIPS). My 99 seat is comfortable but is very worn and the seam stiching is really going in a lot of places. Would you suggest transferring the bottom and back leather skins only - and keeping the seat frame, springs, padding heaters etc as is? Or should I try and retrofit the whole 98 seat into the 99?

    Great video! Do you know if the oem leather from an 850 can fit on 960 seats? I own a 960 and I'm hoping that the leather is interchangeable because the 850 leather is a lot easier to come by on ebay.

      I think he is talking about the seat back (as in the part of the front seat that you lean your back against) not the back seat. The video just shows the seat bottom skin removal/replace.

    yeah id never have (4) skins made for $500 bucks..i bet I could find some some where in the usa for 2-3 hundred cash for the whole front and backs ..
    not worth the taking it apart and reassemble just cash money and a few bolts and im in business again...
    im just cheap like that !

      AwakeDude911 I'd like to find a pair of seats for my car but it is VERY RARE to find them in salvage yards. I believe there are less than 140 of these '95's left in the USA so, finding some good seats is something that you don't want to hold your breath looking for.

    Great video.. question.. I have that 00 v70r now and it seems as if the driver heated seat doesnt work... my c70 has all leather seat and the v70r has the suede like center.. do the warmers not work as well on this material?

      A Swecker The seats have a thermostat in them. If it's not cold enough, maybe less than 54 degrees, they will not turn on. Usually they have a broken heated wire in the pad from people kneeing them when climbing in the car, or the thermostat wire connection comes loose (unplugs) and stops them from working. How can you fix a broken seat heater wire in the heater pad? I have one broken and a little burnt. Is it fixable or joust junk?
