I really enjoyed that one Casey Seriously the finds just keep getting better all the time Hopefully one more History Hunting trip before snow comes Good work
Hey there William I have to ask whats stopping you from making it out there as you put it? I’m curious because I had a whole list of things stopping me until one day I through the list away and headed out lol Are you in Oregon by chance?

@@CoyoteWorks01 Happy New Year Casey. Please read the comment I left for you to read. Its kind of long but you’ll understand why when you read it. Cheers
Yeah I’m working on the video of my next trip after this one now. I’ll give you a hint. It was below zero and about 10 inches of snow! Cheers my friend!

Hey Casey... thanks for the shout-out. I've had few over my way drop a comment from your channel... very nice of you to do that. On another note, I'd agree with ya about that rod being a drill. Thanks my friend. Been really enjoying your videos. You’ve really inspired me to start doing some digging of some of the old sites I explore. I haven’t found any super cool or really old bottles yet but I’m having fun looking! Cheers!
Those were some pretty cool relics. I've heard that those old flat files were made out of 1095 steel. Good for making knives and I think you are right. That was an old bit for drilling rock. All really cool stuff and awesome place. Take care and be safe.
Happy new year from our ranch in Almo Idaho! Enjoying this video for my lunch break from feeding cows in the blizzard today. Mtn house chicken and dumplings with a little extra water is my favorite, very comforting and filling when on the mountain ✌️🇺🇸
Happy New year Zack. Thank you. Yeah those mountain house meals are hard to beat for a quick, hot, easy camp or trail meal. Stay warm and safe out there! Cheers.
Thanks for the video! I like your table and chair setup! Very nice. Can’t bring myself to purchase a spork. I buy new old stock silverware from Replacements ltd…lots of stuff from the 1800’s early 1900’s
Casey do use a metal Detector also? Enjoyed your show. Thank you. Happy new year and looking forward to your next show. I waa thinking that someone should make a 12 volt electric heater for the tent at night. Something run off a 12 volt deep cycle battery. Be handy for you on those chilly nights.
I love your adventures. You always find cool treasures. I have learned a lot from you like starting a fire, what to look for on finding treasures like you. As far as mountain house meals that to me is ok, you can't cook meals all the time. Thank you for bringing us along on your adventures. God Bless and be safe.

Another method for keeping your freeze dried meal and yourself warm, is to keep it inside your parka while it rehydrates. Most good parkas/puffys have an internal mesh pocket that serves well as a good place to stow it.
Casey I want you to know what an inspiration you are to me and probably a whole lot of other people as well. I really enjoy being in the outdoors as much as possible but sometimes life just kind of grinds you down and its in those times that one of your videos will pop into my feed. They always seem to appear at just the right time. Each one of your videos reminds me that I can enjoy myself out in nature all by myself when everyone seems to busy to accompany me on an adventure. This past year was really tough on me as I lost my best friend back in the spring to complications during a surgery. His death really hit me hard especially because we had planned out most of 2021 around various trips and excursions we were going to do together. So his death pretty much wiped out my calendar for the rest of the year and he was my best friend for quite awhile so losing him really was like a kick in the gut. I knew he was an important part of my life and I was to him as well and it just never occurred to me that he wouldn’t always be there. Losing him left a gigantic hole in my life. It may sound a bit strange but watching you out there doing what you love all by yourself reminds me of what he would want me to do. He wouldn’t want me sitting at home mourning his passing. He would want me to be out there in the woods doing the things that I love even if it meant going it alone. There will never be another person in my life just like him and that’s ok. I might meet someone that I become friends with and maybe even best friends someday. But in the meantime I shouldn’t waste what time I have because if I learned anything from his passing its that you never know when your time is up. So I want to say thank you to you Casey because your videos remind me of the times I got to spend with my best friend doing pretty much what you do in your videos. I’ll always have those memories and a few pictures we took when we remembered to take them lol. And since most of the time we were out there it was in some of the same areas you seem to frequent so the scenery reminds me of those times. But now I’m kind of rambling lol. Just know that sometimes your willingness to share your adventures makes a huge difference in the lives of people you may never get to meet. Maybe I’ll bump into you sometime while out and about in the outdoors. I know he would have liked you Casey because you remind me of him in a lot of ways. Now its 2022 and its been almost a year since I lost my best friend. I’m going to do what he would want me to do and that’s get out there and enjoy myself before its my time to go. Thank you Casey for being the friend I haven’t met yet lol I know you understand what I’m trying to say. Coyote works out. Cheers.

That rose colored glass you found is really interesting - the one that looked like a tea-cup. My mother in law collected those kinds of things - like both the rose and green colored glass-ware.
Casey. Like usual, great video. We sure enjoy your videos…..we learn so much from you. The last year or maybe two (time is flying) Cory always says “time to build a coyote works fire” when we are camping. :) meaning the half moon like you do.
Thank you my friend! And appreciate hearing that about the Coyote Works fire! Very cool to hear I’ve had a little bit of influence on your camping. Happy adventures out there!
YAY!! Thankyou for the awesome new video. How have you been doing? Happy new year’s to you and your family. You take care and be safe. I love watching your channel. Can’t wait for more new awesome videos.
I did like your video this one you were calmer really enjoy the exploring you do and you stop to check out the bottles. Do more digging! Hey! Coyote Works Happy new year!!
Another great adventure. The pea salad, did it come from Erickson's Thriftway? There used to be another grocery store on N Main st between E 8th and E 9th, was called Scotty's years ago. Is it still there?
Thanks my friend. That’s the Kovea camp table. I got it from Lolo Overland in Portland, OR camplolo.com . It’s ended up being a really solid table for me. Cheers!
Really cool what you do. Live in Nampa, Id. So your journeys are near me. Grew up by Spokane and North Idaho so have spent many years bombing around those areas. 60, so need to move back, maybe start my own ch up yonder.
@@CoyoteWorks01 We really do love the way you delve into history as an underlying element of your overlanding back country exploration, and with this video, we loved how you gave the insider tips for fire building. Of course, you've done this before, but we like how you went over basics again.
Really good video Casey watching you in that Evolution tent makes me really want to get out there and use mine for the first time I guess it's going to have to be in the snow
Thanks Mark. It’s a great tent. It will serve you well for sure! And I just got back from camping in mine in about 10 inches of snow and below zero temps!
I thought that's what that was. My Grandfather was a General Contractor, and I remember seeing those as a kid. He was awarded the very FIRST Building Permit ever issued in Marion County, Oregon. There is a LOT of Oregon History in my family. I'd LOVE to get a sit down with Casey sometime and exchange notes!
Happy New Year and really enjoyed this outing. I hope you can get one or two more in before the season is over. Always enjoy the tips you give and wishing you a safe and hardy 2022 👍🏻🔥🌲
Thank you. I’ll definitly get more in. I go all year round. I just can’t do much relic hunting once the ground is frozen solid and covered with snow. But I’m just working on my next video now of a trip I did where it was below zero and had about 10 inches of snow on the ground. Cheers!
Casey, Another great camp out! I really enjoy your time digging up relics! The history of the high desert is bountiful and interesting! Here in the Columbia River Gorge we have “dump sites” full of history as well. I find that taking my dogs out for a run helps me find new ground, but it’s hit or miss finding the history at times. What do you use for confirmation on the dates and timelines? How about finding information on new places to explore? I’ve read all the books about the area, talk to the old timers at the coffee shop and I’ve grown up in the area. Any thing else you can think of? I’d appreciate your insight. The “can lids” you mentioned, were they glass or tin? Thanks again for taking me along for the ride! Happy New Year !
Sounds like you do a lot of the same things I do…. Read local history books, listen to the old timers, etc. I also search for and browse old maps. The maps back into the 1920s and 1930s are a good balance between being new enough to be fairly detailed and accurate but still showing a lot of the historic homesteads, ranches etc. A lot of the maps from that era actually showed where houses and buildings were located. And like you said, at the end of the day I find a lot of old sites by just hiking around and looking in areas where it seems likely someone would have wanted to settle or camp. Cheers!
@@CoyoteWorks01 I will keep doing what I’m doing and will pull some maps. Water & Soil conservation District office might have a map or two. Now I’m chomping at the bit to get out there! I’d be able too if there wasn’t 16+ inches of snow outside. ❄️🐶🐶☃️ Thanks again for the ride!
It’s just the gear that I use. I talk about it because people ask about it a lot. I only talk about gear that I actually use and I only use gear that actually works for what I need it to do. Cheers my friend!
Happy New Year! Those amber cork top bottles were actually Clorox, or Purex bleach bottles, circa 1930's-40's. They could have been used later for moon shine, but seeing the fancy depression glass, and boot polish, I'd say there were definitely ladies, and families in that camp.
Hey Casey, very much enjoy your videos and your excitement of finding history in remains of an old Homestead. On a much lighter note I had to chuckle at how you pronounced Stok cold brew coffee. A very nice cashier at the local Safeway who used to teach Grade School corrected my pronunciation of that brand of coffee. I too used to pronounce it "stock". She pointed out that there is a "long sign" over the O in Stok, so it's pronounced "stoke". That's our joke when I see her at Safeway.
I snagged a few more things I’ll send your way including the Fish Curry one I think you’ll enjoy that too. Thanks for the shout out, now I know why I started getting all these overlanders following on insta haha!

That rose colored glass you found is really interesting - the one that looked like a tea-cup. My mother in law collected those kinds of things - like both the rose and green colored glass-ware.
Yes it was a tea cup. Really neat, very ornate glass.
I’m glad you put that last line about the half moon in there lol. For a second I thought you meant a jeep fire lol. Cheers
Great video
Thank you!
Missing your videos! Hope all is well Casey
Another great one,thanks.
Thank you!
YAY!! Thankyou for the awesome new video. How have you been doing? Happy new year’s to you and your family. You take care and be safe. I love watching your channel. Can’t wait for more new awesome videos.
For sure my friend! Doing well. Happy new year to you too!
I did like your video this one you were calmer really enjoy the exploring you do and
you stop to check out the bottles. Do more digging! Hey! Coyote Works Happy new year!!
Thank you my friend! Happy new year to you!
You might mention where Mountain house is made:
Oregon Freeze Dry in Albany.
That’s a great point Bruce. I like it even more that they are an Oregon company!
Another great adventure. The pea salad, did it come from Erickson's Thriftway? There used to be another grocery store on N Main st between E 8th and E 9th, was called Scotty's years ago. Is it still there?
Sweet been waiting brother.
Hope you enjoy!
Great video. What kind of table are you using? Pretty sturdy? Thanks and look forward to your next adventure.
Thanks my friend. That’s the Kovea camp table. I got it from Lolo Overland in Portland, OR camplolo.com . It’s ended up being a really solid table for me. Cheers!
I would say main thing to watch out for is spontaneous vehicle combustion 😂. Awesome camp setup man!
Ha! Solid point there ;-)
Really cool what you do. Live in Nampa, Id. So your journeys are near me. Grew up by Spokane and North Idaho so have spent many years bombing around those areas. 60, so need to move back, maybe start my own ch up yonder.
Man that would be awesome. You should! Good to hear you’ve had some of the same experiences bobbing around the back country. Cheers!
Love your videos! So informative and interesting!
Thank you!
That's good to know Casey. Thanks!
That bit is a Star drill bit, those old files make excellent knife blades when repurposed.
Man that’s great! I would enjoy sitting down over a cup of coffee to talk history for sure!
I thought it was some kind of drill bit but I wasn’t sure. We’re they used to drill rock?
@@CoyoteWorks01 yep. Though they were used on other applications.
Cheers!
Casey,
Another great camp out!
Thanks again for the ride!
@06:00 When it is "very still," it can only mean one thing... there's a Squatch nearby. 🤣
For sure! Always!
happy new year Casey!! thanks for taking us along for the ride.. be safe out there!!
Thank you my friend. Happy New Year to you as well!
Appreciate you Sir. 👍🇺🇸🦅
Again a commercial for his gear. Good video.
It’s just the gear that I use. I talk about it because people ask about it a lot. I only talk about gear that I actually use and I only use gear that actually works for what I need it to do. Cheers my friend!
Happy New Year, and the beard's lookin' good!
Thanks my friend. Happy New year!
Happy New Year! Those amber cork top bottles were actually Clorox, or Purex bleach bottles, circa 1930's-40's. They could have been used later for moon shine, but seeing the fancy depression glass, and boot polish, I'd say there were definitely ladies, and families in that camp.
Thank you. Those are great pointers. I find a lot of those bottles in that era of camps. I bet they used it a lot for disinfecting. Cheers!
Ahhh. Good catch on my poor pronunciation. Good to know. I suspected there was something tricky about that! Cheers my friend!
