I'm a RAV4 owner as well but it's an older vintage. I own a 2012 RAV4 V6 that I use for the bulk of my camping adventures. I have a similar setup that leans towards simplicity. For my mattress, I use two Thermarest Z-Lite pads and I utilize several smaller plastic bins set up on the side for storing camping and cooking equipment as well as food and extra clothing. I think a lot of people would be pleasantly surprised at how many places they can visit with a crossover vehicle. A 3-hour drive and have to wake up to that view when th back opens. Well, that is a drive I would take often.
Nice minimalist setup! Thinking of a similar setup for my crossover on order.
Have you thought of making a small platform to make the bed flat + storage space underneath? What you think is the simplest way to do it.

It's a Lucky Adventure the whole idea came after a trip this last summer. Had everything I needed expect a bed in my car. This year I will make it work. I do a lot of photography and I think some nice adventures for photos and camping will be fun

So is your Rav4 AWD? I have a 2018 Rav4 FWD, but I've always wanted to do the camping trips! I just did my first actual mod on my car and had the muffler swapped out yesterday with a Magnaflow. What modifications have you done? This video really gives me hope for future camping trips! Thank you for sharing!
I had the opportunity to buy the adventure model and decided to go with the xle. They were both 2018 used about the same mileage the one I chose (xle) had 6k less miles on it and it was $4k less which is why I went with it because I bought it cash. Looking back at it now, I should’ve financed the difference to get the adventure. I’m getting into stuff like this and some secluded places that some of my family go to I can’t because I have no AWD 😢

Hey great video. Just a quick question. Is your Rav4 is AWD? Mine is FWD so I was wondering if AWD would be essential for camping. I know definitely AWD would be better but not sure I have to change the car with another one with AWD.

This video just popped up on youtube. I am in the market for a "motorized metal tent," and I like your simple setup with the RAV4. Like you, I just want to explore places I see on the map and get out there and contemplate life. Not into rock crawling, and my budget is limited. Have been looking at the RAV4 Off-Road. Did you have to trim the tri-fold mattress in order to make it fit? Are you able to stretch out flat with your setup. I ask because I have low back problems. Thank you for this video and THUMBS UP!
I am not into rock crawling or actual trails and stuff. I just use my car for road trips and to get to camp spots like this. As for the mattress, it fits perfect, no need to cut or anything.

I just bought a 2011 Rav4 with only 65K miles on it and I love it! It's my second vehicle that I plan on using for some mini-weekend adventures and seeing how easy it is to setup a bed in it, there's no way I'm going to be using a tent!
yeah its super simple and plenty of room, tent is great too but when you're tired after a long drive or bad weather you just wanna climb to the back and call it a night lol
I have the same one, mink plush blanket, but everyone does call it an Asian blanket. 2016 Ltd hybrid.

where did you get your rain deflector? also, are those 15 inch wheels?

I'm considering a Rave4. Not sure which trim to get. May want to get a small teardrop.
any trim is great, but get one with AWD in case you need it to get to a camp site or explore rough terrain. :)
How do you handle the bump from the back seat folded down ? Its difficult to sleep over the bump.
the memory foam mattress solves that issue, i don't feel the bump behind the seat when folded.
Does the height at your feet bother you? I am concerned with my head or feet being higher.

Do your seats fold down flat? I have a 2017 RAV4 and they don't unfortunately!
my seats don't fold completely flat, may 5 degree angle but with the memory foam pad the slight angle doesnt matter :)
What led dogs are you running?

i cut it slight larger than the window and just shove it in the crack of the window and trim piece.

Did you disconnect the seat belt from ceiling?
i disconnected it from the seat belt in the seat, theres a little slot that you can insert a key or something to release it and then the seat belt retracts into the ceiling.
Anyone know how much usable length there is for the bed? Will I fit if i’m 5’11?
I’m 5’11 and have more than enough room in my 2015 RAV4
