I hope they never update it. It's the best value in the midsized market. It's simple and has less gadgets that will fail. The SV looks like a good deal. I'm torn between the SV and the Pro4X. Not sure I need the extras on the 4X.
I was in the same boat but could not force my self to shell out the extra for the pro4x with the incentives and price difference between the SV. I own a 2017 SV.
I bought my 2013 sl 4x2 brand new I still love my truck. At 88000 miles I've only replaced the belt twice, front head lights, 30+ oil changes, a set of new ko2 which please buy the I put almost 50000 Mile the still have 40000 miles of life left but I went from average 19.5 mpg to 17.5 mpg city highway combine. I always take of at 3500 rpms and its tough truck still rides like it did brand new. No complaints. Please dont buy the Sv because I rents a 2016 sv and the seating doesn't compare to the leather seating the foam material is much better plus more features. I'm saying this because I own a sl best truck I've owned and love it. But pro 4x but not worth trading in just yet.
I just bought a 2019 king cab V6SV, after i put 341,000 on my 2008 SEV6, that i sold for $2400. the only problem i had with that truck was the transmission/radiator issue, they corrected that for the 2011 model year. i'm looking forward to another 12+ years in this one, best truck for the cost. my old one sold me the new one years before i went to the dealer.
Can’t believe they still make this. I thought my 2017 bought in 2017 would be the last year of this generation. Whoa! It is a great easy to operate, utilitarian truck.
I am on my second frontier after putting 165,000 trouble free miles on a used 2010. I bought a 2018 black midnight edition. The last of the old school mid size pick ups. Reliable, great in snow and mud. For the money this truck has no ( zero ) (nada) (zip) competition.
I drive a 2010 Nissan frontier four-door and I almost thought I was looking at an exact duplicate except for the screen even though Nissan really hasn’t upgraded in nine years my truck is still a great little truck and it runs great. Let me add that I’ve never had any mechanical problems except a surprise 5 years ago where I had to change the battery and that’s not really mechanical. 110k miles and going strong. I do also make sure to treat it well and get all maintenance done. I’d buy another one, outdated or not.
I miss mine already. Bought a 2002 Frontier new, put 238,000 miles on it with no problems. Got a wild hair and traded for a 2018 Tacoma for a "change", had it for a year can't stand it. I'm headed back to the local Nissan dealer today to get me a Frontier back. Lesson learned.
I purchased a right out of the factory 2018 Frontier SV 4x4 midnight edition. I love the truck it's perfect for me it's got heated seats, 3 USB ports, tinted windows, 20in alloy wheels, crew cab, body color bumpers and weathertech floormats, a rockford fosgate stereo that pounds. I had body trim and window and hood visors put on it with some black fender flares, I bought a roof rack and bull bar to be put on this spring and a tonneau cover for the bed. I plan on driving this truck for a long time. Seems like my truck has a lot more options that this one on the video. It also has a electronic locking differential and black nerf bars too. The bed is sprayed in black and has a bed extender on it too. For a 4.0 V6 it really gets up and goes from 0-60 it's quite speedy. The torque is very nice, and the four wheel drive works as good as my Toyota 4x4 probably better than my Toyota. Cool thing too is this midnight edition spare is the same 20 in alloy with low profile tire. It came with top of the line 12 ply hankooks had the gold ribbon stamp on each tire. Im glad I bought it and saved myself around 9.500 on this instead of a Tacoma which it seems like everyone in my town has. I haven't seen a truck like mine at all since its a midnight edition and has all the extra stuff i had put on.
I have a 2018 Nissan Frontier SV I loved it the day I bought it and I still do look at your car lots you'll always find more Fords and Chevrolets being traded in not many Nissan Frontiers because people don't have trouble with them imagine that keep it up Nissan
I think this is still a bit expensive for how long it's been out on the market. If it was a few grand cheaper, I'd pick one up just like this one in a heartbeat!
Kevin Singh grab a CPO one! I got a 2019 crew cab 4x4 demo that was CPO with 7,200 miles on it. Value truck package included for 25, basically a brand new truck at a nice discount. Very happy with it so far a few thousand miles in, pretty much the only new truck left without all the crazy tech that I didn’t want.
They're far more negotiable on price than their competition. I was quoted $29k for a pro 4x with premium package and I haven't even started haggling yet.
I got a 2018 CC SV 4X4 from Off lease only in Florida. It had 6,500 miles on it for $20,000. Only way to go. I've seen several from them for sale for a grand more & a few thousand more miles. But, they are out there.
Great review, I just bought a 2010 Frontier crew cab with the longer bed. I love it. I bought it because it doesn't have all the electronic crap that always goes bad . thanks again for the review.
Christian Izaguirre / i plan on keeping mine and passing it on to my grandson so resale is not a big deal. As to the seats well we’ve made some road trips and they’re not to bad but could be better. We only do light hauling so this meets our needs nicely, Overall a great truck.
@@jackwood8307 it's been great to me, just hit 17k miles. I plan on keeping it until I decide to get a titan xd with cummins engine. I mostly do light hauling, sometimes I do haul a car with the trailer.
I'm about to buy my 4th Frontier. Getting the Pro 4X. They are comfortable, basic, and have ZERO new tech. I have automation and alarms, reminders, etc. These Frontiers are comfortable, heated seats are awesome and road noise is pretty quiet, despite what the voice says.
For an additional $1750, you can get the "value package" on the Frontier SV - heated seats, dual zone climate control, utili-trac tie down system, trailer hitch and a few other things. It makes the truck much more comfortable (in my opinion - I have a 2017) and you can still get it for under 30,000.
I just got that one about a month ago and I couldn’t be happier with it so far! He’s right that it feels a bit older and I wish it at least showed a few more things such as tire pressure but that’s my only complaint! Plus I managed to get it for only about $25,000 which in my opinion is a huge steal.
i'd buy one depending on price, if they had a lower price point they would sell alot better im sure, if they ever put the 4cyl cummins would be an awesome truck
I'm happy with my Frontier. Most people who also try to drive my truck suck at it too. Mostly, because they think it doesn't have the punch to it when pressing the pedal.
One thing, saying its easy to maneuver in small parking spots is not necessarily true. The one issue with these is the turning radius. Its really bad. I find myself having to back up to squeeze into a spot all the time because of the turning radius which is a joke for truck this size. But its not a deal breaker. Price points and the fact that this is now rated the most reliable truck is the reason to buy.
HiPlains1 was just going to say the same thing. Always gotta pull forward then back up again to make the turn out of a spot. Sometimes into a spot, too.
At 6:08 you talk about 4 low. In order to put the truck in 4 low it should be stopped and the transmission in neutral. Same thing when going back to 4 high.
Really? Honestly, I've never owned a vehicle with 4 wheel drive. I have been reading the manuals on all these vehicles lately and I thought you had to be moving a low speeds to shift into 4L? And I'm not questioning your comment, I really appreciate you mentioning this, I'm just trying to figure this all out.
@@100RentalCars How dare you question my comment (just joking). Read page 5-27 of the 2019 manual here owners.nissanusa.com/content/techpub/ManualsAndGuides/Frontier/2019/2019-Frontier-owner-manual.pdf I knew the shift procedure as I drive a 2012 Frontier.
just test drove a few yesterday,,,,, engine is coarse sounding, but has grunt. quick but not fast. 5 speed auto tranny is ok, but an 8 speed would work wonders for acceleration and fuel use. SV ride is pretty good, the Pro ride is much more stiff/bouncy, loud, and all over the place. cannot get locking rear end in SV, gotta go to Pro. not my cup of tea. if you've ever had your 4WD stuck spinning in slush or glaze or ice, you'd insist on a locker. or two lockers. step in is pretty comfortable as are the front seats. no factory remote start. steering wheel tilts but does not telescope. after awhile driving it the cabin seems to shrink in size, like it's a bit too small to begin with. like it should be 10% bigger, at least. overall not a bad truck especially if price point is important. seemed very solid.
I have the 2016 Pro 4x. I love it. It hasn't changed much since 1995, for me, that's a plus. All of the bugs are worked out. The most sold small pickup in the world. Mine is a standard shift and I average 16.4 MPG driving around town. It is a practical truck. It runs well. The only complaint I have is that the gas tank is too small. Mine has 17k with not one issue. Knock on wood.
great review. I was torn between getting a Nissan Frontier, or a Chevy Colorado / Ford Ranger / Toyota Tacoma with all the bells and whistles. Then I found a really deal on a 2019 Frontier 4x4, about 1/2 of what I'd spend getting one of the competition loaded with all the options. I decided that because I like to keep a vehicle forever, that the Nissan made sense, lots less of the fancy stuff (expensive) to crap out. I briefly thought about a 2020, but for a couple more MPG, a few more horsies, and a 9 speed transmission that I'm not sure if I trust for the long haul..... Long story short, new White Nissan 4x4 out front of the house paid for in cash!
It does not bother me they have not changed this model in so long. I would rather save the $ and find a 2011-2012 version of this. My friend has a 2015 Grey Pro 4X and it’s awesome. 265 HP is fast with plenty of power. I currently drive a 2002 Silverado Z71 which has been an awesome truck but I do not tow a boat, etc.. and I am highly considering a Frontier for my next truck
I really like the Frontier. Simple, reliable, and less expensive than the competition. A sturdy work pickup. Hopefully the next generation will keep that approach. One thing they can improve on, however, is the mpg. Engines are getting more efficient, with the same power despite smaller displacement. If they could put a new ~3.5l v6 under the hood with an 8 speed transmission, that'd be perfect. Maybe we'll see 24mpg highway on the next gen.
Agreed. I would trade in my current Frontier for a new one, if they only added >5mpg to it, improved the turning radius, and some minor updates in the cab. Love the size, because it fits into my garage with some room to spare. It's cheaper that every other comparable truck, with the same package... by a lot.
I'm actually impressed these come with oil and battery gages. I feel like I haven't seen those in at least 20 years if not more. Which is strange considering gas oil and battery life are three important things an engine needs.
heads up: about honking the horn. You did that wrong. Most manufacturers now have a separate horn for the alarm system. It does not activate when you press on the steering wheel. So to 'test the horn' you must press the steering wheel. Otherwise your testing the alarm signal device (not always called a horn)
I just got a slightly used one of these. To most it’s simple but when you come from a regular cab 97’ ranger it’s like a truck from The future.. the motor seems so beefy compared to the ranger. I guess it’s all a matter of perspective.
I like my frontier except being forced to buy a radiator at 100k miles and expecting the automatic transmission to go out sometime after 100k miles. And the check engine light going off at 110k miles, the fuel gauge randomly not registering correctly, brake squeal when first driving off in the morning, and worrying why the drive line occasionally clunks, and the clothe seats prematurely wearing, and the roof paint peeling then rusting, plus it's good to know that renault does it's best to avoid any volunteer recall. yep it's a great truck except against a Toyota.
Thinking Impaired Apparently you haven’t read anything on the Tacoma problems. Rated in the top five on customer complaints. Tundra is number 1 for customer satisfaction and fewest reported problems though.
Thinking Impaired What year? Did you buy it new? There are plenty of posts about these trucks getting 300,000 miles. Tacoma’s are in the top five problem trucks with reported issues, since the redesign. Transmission issues being the biggest complaint. The frontier is in the top five trucks with the least reported problems.
I own a 2017, and the only part of this review I disagree with is maneuvering into parking spaces. The Frontier has an enormous turn radius, with makes it tough to get into a tight parking spot on the first try... especially in places that don't use slanted parking spaces.
Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't have that experience when I drove the Frontier, but I think it's important that others hear what your saying. Even with that issue, it's still a great truck in my opinion. 👍👍👍
I agree, I just want a basic truck, I don't need all the junk that everyone else has because that's just something else that will break at some point. I wish the bed was a little bigger.
Nice honest(mostly )review about simple , dependable truck.Since Mazda B series or Ford Ranger the only remaining midsize truck , which is reasonably priced.I did not like always hunting for gear transmission on newer Tacoma.I do not like touchscreens etc.Oh btw that armrest up front scratches very easily. And about 4wd.Do not know how to use the feature ? Just admit it. Impressed you were able to connect your phone via bluetooth .Some rental companies disable this feature.
ooooh you've got my sub. Not in my face, down to the point, and you do what I like a reviewer to do. And moving to cascadia soon (haven't decided which state yet, still searching through properties) i'm thinking of getting this truck. Not flashy, straightforward, does what you need it to when you need it to. Not to mention that price tag, pretty good for a relatively nice truck.
The Frontier is the most reliable (and for that reason "best") vehicle Nissan makes. Its been in production so many years that any bugs were worked out long ago. I'd take it over a Ranger or Tacoma and pocket the money I saved.
I love my 2015 SV 4x4 Value package frontier. It's worth it to upgrade and get the value package for this truck. You get the towing package, auto tint mirrors, heated seats, spray in bed liner, rear bed tie down track system and some other extras. It beats my Colorado in driving quality hands down. My only complaint is the 19.2 mpg I average. Why spend the extra 4000-5000 on a Colorado or Toyota, or Jeep. And to all you ford fans the ranger will always be the crappiest truck i ever owned. The new one will be the same.
i recently purchased a 2016 sv 4x4 6 speed as a work/daily truck and its kindof amazing. all my car buddies think its sick. VQ offroader with a 6spd? oh and at a great price
I have one. Gas mileage is not great but I didn’t expect it to be. Two issues of concern for me is the very high idle at start up. Also the transmission is constantly shifting and doesn’t feel good. I don’t know, hope it holds up, it’s mine now.
Straightforward and simple. How a pickup truck should be, in my opinion.
Agreed!

I hope they never update it. It's the best value in the midsized market. It's simple and has less gadgets that will fail. The SV looks like a good deal. I'm torn between the SV and the Pro4X. Not sure I need the extras on the 4X.
I have a 15 2wd sv and I love it, mine has spray in bedliner, a hitch and the utillitrack system w 4 cleats
2020 is being updated.
@@overyonderways 30+????? thats less than 3000 mile changes.. . you're lying or severely wasting your money.
i bought a 2016 frontier in 2018. a lot like the truck you just showed. I LOVE MINE.
Nice! And I bet you got an amazing deal too!
I have a 2016 SV and love it. Last of the good, honest trucks.
Best review I've seen online! Bravo!
Wow! Thanks!
I’d buy another one, outdated or not.
my 2012 pro4x has 82000 miles with no problems!
99 frontier 4x4 with over 200,000.
I have a Colorado and I'll be looking hard at the Nissan Frontier because for $25,000 you get so much more of a truck.
This truck is SO Nissan, the interior looks like my 370Z
mine is just like this except 2WD and a 2016. i love it. that 4 liter engine is fast....
Another great relaxing review. Thanks for keeping the reviews coming, I really do enjoy your commentary 😊
Best frontier review on RUclips
Just a starting point, you can get it for waaaay under msrp
Great review, I just bought a 2010 Frontier crew cab with the longer bed. I love it. I bought it because it doesn't have all the electronic crap that always goes bad . thanks again for the review.
Thanks for the kind words!
I have the exact same truck, color and interior and I love it. I had a 1995 before I got the 2019. Love the Nissan. Drives great and plenty of power.
I'm considering purchasing one of these. Hey! You do a great review! I appreciate your straight-forward review!
You're welcome! Glad it helped. And I say go for it! It's a great truck.
Good review & perfect Frontier.
Own a 2017 frontier and would buy again after 2 years of driving it!
I own a 2017 sv, only complaints are the resale, and how the front seat is not as comfortable as other trucks
Well said. And your fourth?!? Wow. Are you buying new or used?
I love Nissan, the interior in the Frontier is 100% identical to my old Xterra
I love your reviews, keep it up !
Thanks!
2018 SV 4x4 owner here, very happy.
My family are all under 5'7" so the back seat isn't an issue😀
For that price that's the best truck 😊
I like it, straight forward reliable truck
i'd buy one depending on price, if they had a lower price point they would sell alot better im sure, if they ever put the 4cyl cummins would be an awesome truck
A few year ago they had a consept diesel frontier at the Chicago auto show they just discontinued the diesel Titan by nissan
I have mine since one month ago. The only con i find in it is the gas mileage. I really love my truck.
Agreed! I think it's one of the best out there. I just wish it got more love here on the internets.
Mpg will get better after 2 nd oil change...
I love my frontier but your comment is exactly correct.
Read page 5-27 of the 2019 manual here owners.nissanusa.com/content/techpub/ManualsAndGuides/Frontier/2019/2019-Frontier-owner-manual.pdf I knew the shift procedure as I drive a 2012 Frontier.
you also have to push the dial in. please be stopped when switching to 4l
just test drove a few yesterday,,,,,
engine is coarse sounding, but has grunt. quick but not fast.
Great job. I agree. Don't need a bunch of fancy. I'm probably going to get one of these.
Thanks! Agreed, it's a pick-up. It should look and feel like a truck.
I just bought a 2019 Nissan Frontier with the same color and options as the one you reviewed. 👍👍
Nice, congratulations! I know you'll love it.
@@100RentalCars Thank you sir. Keep the videos coming. 👍👍🇺🇲
Great review, from both the SV version and the Pro 4x!, both reviews are really good. The design might be old, but it´s bug free and reliable.
That's a nice pickup perfect design.
"The most solid small pickup in the world." Well said.
great review.
Easily available to find the manual transmission in the V6 4x4 as well. Important point for enthusiasts as competitors have migrated to "auto only".
I am glad Nissan still offers the Manual, the only problem is its next to impossible to find one.
Great walk around!!
Mine is also a 2019 in the Pro4x version, love it! Everything I need nothing I don’t.
I can't believe that's a 2019 model
It's cheaper that every other comparable truck, with the same package... by a lot.
I don't care about the updates I only care about not braking down I like it I only satisfy me I'm getting one
Highly excited
I'm actually impressed these come with oil and battery gages. I feel like I haven't seen those in at least 20 years if not more. Which is strange considering gas oil and battery life are three important things an engine needs.
heads up: about honking the horn. You did that wrong. Most manufacturers now have a separate horn for the alarm system. It does not activate when you press on the steering wheel. So to 'test the horn' you must press the steering wheel. Otherwise your testing the alarm signal device (not always called a horn)
Much of a Basic Farm-town Like truck. Ty for the Review 👍🏼
It might be outdated but that little SV V6 will leave a Toyota TRD Tacoma in the dust!
Thinking Impaired
Apparently you haven’t read anything on the Tacoma problems. Rated in the top five on customer complaints. Tundra is number 1 for customer satisfaction and fewest reported problems though.
Thinking Impaired
What year? Did you buy it new? There are plenty of posts about these trucks getting 300,000 miles. Tacoma’s are in the top five problem trucks with reported issues, since the redesign. Transmission issues being the biggest complaint. The frontier is in the top five trucks with the least reported problems.
There’s no doubt this is a reliable truck but cars and trucks have come so far in the last 10 years and the Frontier is long overdue for an update.
Just bought a 2012 with the V6, 6 speed manual, and just 20k miles. Only thing I wish it had was Bluetooth... but that's a hundred dollar fix.
Probably less plenty of bluetooth to radio adapters
I own a 2017, and the only part of this review I disagree with is maneuvering into parking spaces. The Frontier has an enormous turn radius, with makes it tough to get into a tight parking spot on the first try... especially in places that don't use slanted parking spaces.
Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't have that experience when I drove the Frontier, but I think it's important that others hear what your saying. Even with that issue, it's still a great truck in my opinion. 👍👍👍
Looking at the interior, I miss my 2007 Pathfinder
Terra is now an NP300 Navara Suv
it's almost 5 years since gen D23 was out, yet the us market is still selling this D40 model
I agree, I just want a basic truck, I don't need all the junk that everyone else has because that's just something else that will break at some point. I wish the bed was a little bigger.
To quote Regular Car Reviews: “If it ain’t broke, don’t EEEUUUUUUUGGGGHHHH MARSHALL TUCKER BAND”
I love your reviews. New subscriber
Love nissan cars
Very good truck.
Alex Youknowwhoo
You’re saying the Ranger is reasonably priced? I would hate to see what you think is too expensive.
Nice review, keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
ooooh you've got my sub.
Thanks for the kind words. And good luck with your move! Definitely take the Frontier out for a test drive. I think you'll like it.
Well said.
Damn, waiting to get one. Idk why I like these trucks.
I love my 2011 Ranger, old school like me!!!!
i recently purchased a 2016 sv 4x4 6 speed as a work/daily truck and its kindof amazing. all my car buddies think its sick. VQ offroader with a 6spd? oh and at a great price
Love this style ,don’t like the new style looks to much like a Tacoma ❤
Simple truck for the work it’s good enough
I have one. Gas mileage is not great but I didn’t expect it to be. Two issues of concern for me is the very high idle at start up. Also the transmission is constantly shifting and doesn’t feel good. I don’t know, hope it holds up, it’s mine now.
