    It personally feels pretty darn good to have Scotty agree on a decision I made years ago. I wanted a tacoma very much until I did my due diligence and researched. What I found was…year for year, mile for mile, a used frontier averaged $10k LESS than most Tacoma’s. In comparison, they both got 4.0l v6 about same hp and tq #’s. Both about same mpg’s. Both crew cab. Both 4x4….BUT frontier has a fully boxed frame instead of C-channel (bad track record for Toyota) AND…$10k less. I purchased a 6 year old truck with 65k miles for $17k. It now has 190k and all I’ve done is oil, brakes, and tires, and a dealership tranny and coolant flush every 50k. Runs great!!!

They were very very concerned that the gearbox had failed on one of their vehicles with low miles on a regularly main dealer serviced car. Honda UK called me back the same afternoon. They told me everything had been taken care of, informed me to take it to the dealer who would replace the gearbox at no cost to me, and provide a courtesy car. Was very impressed with Honda UK in the way they dealt with this.

This tip you gave about writing to the manufacturer is one of the more brilliant things i've heard (as a semi-lazy american consumer). The extreme difference between cultural norms and face-saving is truly extreme. Americans are happy to humiliate themselves to serve some momentary "purpose" (like making an extra buck $) but the eastern-types take brand-building and guarantees so much more seriously. I think it is so wise; the fact that we can both see it - the fact that i understand you even though i have no understanding of mechanics. Communication is truly amazing and i thank you for making these videos.

I just had a bad impression based on rumors I heard a few years ago. Finally I decided to investigate and research the Frontier. I know many will wish death on me for saying this but the Frontier is a much better truck for the buck. For a tacoma access cab of the same year with same level of features and 40,000 miles the dealer wanted 38 grand after the bogus markup. Frontier has taken me through a mudhole on bald tires and did not get stuck. Personally the 5 speed in the frontier feels more responsive to me than the tacoma. And my legs don't sit up as high.

      Why would a cracked radiator damage the transmission?

    • @sm_flys
      @sm_flys 2 года назад +3

      @@fbi1490 Essentially the radiator was built out of cheap plastics. Over time the plastic can crack and allow coolant to flow out of the radiator and into the transmission cooler. The coolant would then mix with the transmission oil, and if not caught quick enough, can destroy your tranny. I was out driving one day when it started shifting very rough. Went home drained the transmission oil, refilled it, and replaced the radiator. Ran good ever since. Recently I’ve noticed a vibration at idle which I think is either the engine motor mounts or the timing chain, either way, I’ve got my money worths out of this car.

    Something Scotty forgot to mention is that these things don’t turn as well as other trucks do. The radius to make a turn is wider than a Tacoma, F150, or RAM 1500. Just keep that in mind before you buy. Take it for a drive and make sure you can live with the handling. I don’t mind since I’ve driven fat trucks, but it might bother some folks.
