@William Vagabond FWIW, my 2010 Xterra has a bit over 149k miles on it and it has the first update radiator (Calsonic: 21460-ZL11A). Even though it got the revised part, It had the warranty enhancement for the radiator - which I believe was Nissan being extra cautious. I have not had any problems with mine, and I am only aware of a couple of 2010's (X or Frontier) with that part # radiator that had the problem. What I have chosen to do is maintain and closely monitor the fluids, however If I had a pre Aug-2009 with the older Radiator (P/N: 21460-EA205, -EA215, or -EA265) I would replace or bypass the radiator immediately as they are all problems waiting to happen, with those P/N SMOD WILL happen, it's a matter of when. The RE5R05A trans costs around $5k to replace, with new, after you have SMOD. Here's a link with some info on this and part #'s. Link is to Xterra forum, but info applies to Frontier also. www.thenewx.org/threads/list-of-calsonic-radiator-part-numbers-associated-with-smod.220778/ Oh, and I remember reading somewhere regarding the secondary timing chains and guides that the revised parts were being used in production starting with 2010 models, and I can confirm that I have not had any issues with mine.
@William Vagabond you can also bypass the radiator coolant loop all together and add another transmission oil cooler if you want in front of the radiator or just straight line it there's already a small cooler
i bought an 08 V6 SE king cab in november of 07, got the strawberry milkshake of death in it at around 100/150k. got the tranny fixed drove it to 341k. sold it for $2400 and bought a 2019 SV king cab, these trucks RULE.
doug lejeune I also bought a mint condition 2007 SE V6 king cab back in 2012 with 102,000 miles on it. I didn’t have it a month when I found out about the radiator issues. I immediately when out and inspected the truck and sure enough, it still had the original radiator. I immediately drove my other vehicle over to auto-zone and bought a new radiator and installed it without issue. I got lucky and 7 years later, it’s still running strong with 170k miles on it.
This is good news. I sold my 2012 manual 4x for a 2018 auto 4x, and was worried about the transmission. I've been looking for this kind of info for a year.
As a contractor, I've had so many different trucks over the years. Mostly old, beat up vans and pickups. When my 1996 F150 lost its brakes, (and after my divorce), I decided to do something for myself and grabbed a 2019 SV Crew Cab which included a truck cap. Bought with 21k miles about four months ago and im just about to turn 36k. Best truck I've ever owned. Comfortable, powerful, hauls a trailer beautifully and looks great (mine is white). So glad I got a Frontier.
I just bought a 2019 Frontier S 4x4 4.0 liter V6 crew cab. I bought it because it's the last truck in America that hasn't fallen victim to all of the new age tech that I don't want in my truck. So far I love it. It runs and drives and performs exactly the way I expected it to. I hope to get 20 years and 200,000 plus miles out of it and I think I will. I appreciate the review on your truck, it helped inform my decision.
@@riffraff2770 "The BEST feature is that it has no features! Less crap to go wrong" Those words should be inscribed on a monument! Absolutely 100% agree with you.
Well the Frontier is getting a new smaller v6 for 2020 and a new body for 2021 though the body style has been in use in Australia for a few years now. Looks too girly with swept headlights IMHO. I won't buy another because I LOVE my 06 with manual trans AND the 6' bed, I often haul a dirtbike or two and with one I can turn it sideways and close the tailgate with an inch to spare. I often go dirtbike camping and stuff a bunch of gear in the bed too so having a closing tailgate is a must, I know.. bed extender, but that has huge gaps so no thanks!!
I have a 2012 4X4 A/T Frontier. 96,000 miles. Regular syn oil changes, new tires, new battery. Never any issues. Pulls trailers very well. Brakes next year. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I'm 62.
Thanks, I drove a 24 Prox4 and will be ordering one this spring, thanks for helping me make a good decision. downsizing from a 2010 F150, going mid-size. Truck lover from S. Ga
I bought a 2007 Long Bed new. No strawberry milkshake with mine, but I did have to replace the timing chain. My power windows were getting a little iffy towards the end. My additional complaint was rusting that I had on the top corners of the windshield. I had a 6-speed manual and thanks to speed shifting I kept the same clutch for all 205,000 miles. After those 205,000 miles I upgraded to a 2018 Tacoma SR5. I lasted 18 months in the Taco. I just kept missing my old Frontier. This fall I traded my Taco (with 37,000 miles on it) for a new 2019 Frontier Long Bed. Since everyone wants the newest design and gadgets, I was able to trade with no extra $$ to get the new Frontier. I love it. It is pretty much the exact same truck that I drove for 11 years and am looking forward to another 10 to 15 years with this truck.
Thanks for a real honest long term review. So much of what gets posted on RUclips is someone who borrowed a car from a dealership and they spend a few minutes with it and call that a “review” - when in reality they know very little about the vehicle. I just purchased a new Nissan Frontier 2019 SV 4x4 crew cab and was happy to hear that you’ve had such great service with your truck. I am a stickler for maintenance and cleanliness of my vehicles and it was great to buy something brand new after having only used stuff for almost 20 years. Great video review!
I just grabbed my 2012 today silver same spec as you but grey interior so far I'm in love. 155km and I'm the second owner. Better than paying tacoma tax.
3/4/21 update. I’ve had my 2019 SV 4x4 for 20 months now. Still very satisfied with this truck and from what I am reading about the new 3.8 / 9 speed versions, I don’t see any reason to upgrade.
If you are a stickler for maintenance (I am too). You will get many years of awesomeness from ur frontier. I bought mine new in 2012 and was my first new truck as well. Been a tank. Pulling a trailer and hauling stuff. A champ in the snow and mud too. The only non maintenance thing i have replaced is a battery cable end at the dealer. 70 bux installed. As good as, if not better than all the Toyotas I have had.
I bought a 2018 Pro4X a little over two months ago. I did a lot or research and all the reviews stated that it was a no nonsense reliable truck. I pulled the trigger and so far I am loving it. Great Review!
@@hageneesje0709 running fantastic. Two major road trips with it and I couldn't be happier. If you do get one get the Pro4x trim level. Its worth the extra mony.
Nice! how much did you spend on it, if i may be so rude to ask? Also do you use it as a daily driver? I am currently looking into buying a pick up just because I love em not for hauling stuff. I have a Max. Budget of about 10k but I don’t know which one to get. Either a used Nissan Frontier, or a used Toyota of some sort. Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated.
@@hageneesje0709 I bought it a year old with 16k on it for $24k. I talked them down a bit. I use mine as a daily too. Not the best MPG but it's a truck. You will pay more for the Tacoma, but to be honest. The Frontier has been around for ever. Nissan has worked all the kinks out. It's a much more reliable truck.
Finally a legit frontier review and from someone as tall as me. I here from all my friends it will be to small for you. So I’m glad you said it was comfortable and reliable.
They’re nice trucks! I drove a used 98 Frontier for a decade and loved it. It died on me about 6 months ago and I bought a 2019. I’m very happy with it.
I bought and still drive my ‘08 Frontier SE crew cab. Solid and powerful mid size truck. I currently have 222,000 miles on it. Towed fairly large loads with it with absolutely no problems. Love the Hankook Dynapros. I did discover on latest plug change that I had oils down the spark plug wells. Replaced with OEM valve covers and while at it did new boots, pcv, new gaskets, and replaced a few worn hoses. Runs like new again!!
114,000 on my 2015 Frontier, still love it, zero issues, 3" lift. Use it regularly for Lyft/Uber and gets compliments all the time. Plan to keep it at least to 200k.
I have a 2013 Frontier. I LOVE IT!!!!! I keep up with routine maintenance and no complaints. I have a 4 cyl 5 speed and I use it daily as my driver. I have 63K miles on it so far. I love it so much that I plan on some upgrades in the future. Geat video, thanks for sharing!!!
John Behneman my truck is passed 21 year olds since bought it was 1998 . This is my truck is frontier cab back as right now it is very rare to finding. But still keeping it as plans needs for remodel and body shop will be looking much better in real soon.
I've been a Chevy guy most of my life but i just bought a really nice old 07' Frontier with 135k miles. I still have my Chevy 2500 work truck, which i love, but i absolutely love this Frontier. 18 years old and in amazing shape, drives so nice too. I wish i knew about these years ago. What a great little truck!
I'm glad I ran across this video. A week ago I traded in my faithful 2011 Ranger that I've had for 11 years and purchased a 2019 Frontier SV crew cab 2WD with the value package. (Dual zone climate, heated seats, more speakers, bed liner, track system and bed extender among other things). Just over 34K on the clock. Was a lease in Miami, super clean, no dents, dings and very minimal wear on the interior. Everything works perfectly and I love how it drives. I'm impressed with how much headroom I have (I'm 6'0). I am also one of those that prefers things like a key ignition and less gadgets on my truck. I'm glad to see that long time Frontier owners are having this good of an experience with their trucks. This makes me even happier about my decision!
Down to earth review for a down to earth truck. I have a 2008 that just passed 197,000 miles and love it! Just replaced the ball joints and front brakes. I've driven in a new Tacoma and it was very plush with a lot of fancy gadgets but didn't feel as solid as my Frontier.
Thanks for taking the time to watch. I have some similar thoughts on the Tacoma, mainly it feels like more of an "effort" to drive. The seating position, foot position on the pedals, etc. The Frontier is more comfortable to me, and has a more solid feeling drive. All the best
I've owned 2 Frontiers, a 2006 and a 2017, both brand new. The 2006 was an awesome truck that never had any problems, however the 2017 was not as reliable. I have enough annoying issues with it that I sold it in under 2 years. Now I find myself in the position of shopping for a midsize truck and I'm considering a used Frontier because I think it's still the best midsize truck from a value perspective. I'm looking for 2012 or newer with under 100,000 miles, but low mileage trucks under $15k are near impossible to find. Plus used truck prices are absurd these days.
My xterra got the drive shaft vibration. I was told by Nissan the driveshaft was not serviceable and I'd have to replace it. I think they wanted $800 at the time. Instead I took the driveshaft out (easier than changing the oil in my opinion) and took it to a driveshaft shop for a re-balance. They charged me $105, I put the driveshaft back in and it was good as new.
Thanks for an awesome review! Just ordered a white Pro-4X - for the purpose of daily commute and overland trips. After a long discussion with me, myself, and I, torn between Tacoma TRD Pro vs Pro-4X vs ZR-2 vs new Ranger FX4 (and Yes, I've looked at Gladiator too...at $60k..that is too much for questionable quality of Jeep), I've decided I needed something that can tank through Los Angeles traffics as well as sand dunes and rocks of the Death Valley desert. FYI, I've test driven all - and have driven alot on 2017 TRD Sport from work. Winning points are as followings: 1. Dana 44 rear and locker - cant beat that! 2. Beefier Transfer case (ZR-2 one is better but ZR-2 does NOT have sunroof~!) than Tacoma. 3. Yes, Sunroof...did I mention sunroof? Nicely tucked between roof rack where I can tie down Mad Max victims 4. Bilstein shocks. Personally I prefer them over Fox because of comfort (yes i will be spending over 90% of time on paved road). Fox is good on off road, but so as Bilstein - and its way more coushier than Fox. Personally! 5. Price - its reasonable...I wouldn't call $35~37k a low price but, it sure is better than close to $45k ~ $50k for TRD Pro or ZR-2...almost $10k cheaper. 6. No non-sense infotainment system (Toyota...you listening?)...well it really doesn't have one. I don't need one from the manufacturer. I can upgrade the infotainment system myself with 7" Samsung Galaxy and root it with CyanogenMod or SlimRoms - which will perform better than ANY infotainment system out there in the market - GUARANTEED! (it will cost me about $2~300 including a bracket - and few hours tuning it). 7. Reliable - nearly 15 years of design which is unchanged allowed Nissan to work out all the bugs - sure, it still looks pretty...I guess...it's like you are still dating your girlfriend from highschool into your mid-40s...oh, wait. 8. Ride quality - Much better than Tacoma for sure. Could be as good as ZR-2 if driven properly. On par with Ranger...and anything is better than Gladiator. 4.0L engine is much more livelier than that of Tacoma. Even though Ranger and ZR-2 is smoother (on 3.6L GM), Frontier is close enough...but it gets thirsty easily I hear. Anyhoo - you cannot go wrong with any of 4 trucks mentioned above - Gladiator too...just my take on it. May the 4X4 be with you.
Great thoughts on the Frontier and comparable trucks. I find it pretty on par with why I love the Frontier too. I also own an FJ Cruiser which shares much of the Tacoma options (2007 model), so I have some experience with both. Hope that the Frontier you ordered serves you well long term.
You forgot to add the frontier is built on the titan frame so you can easily do a titan swap and add cheap long travel or drop the titan v8 in if you choose too :)
LooxGood how are you likeing the new pro4x? Any complaints? im leasing a canyon 4x4 3.6 and buy out is almost what a used 2 yr old pro4x is. My canyon is just a 4x4 non z71 with almost no options that the pro4x has
I've got a 2007 Nissan Titan with 208k miles on it now. I've never broken down nor have I made any major repairs. Nissan used to make the best trucks you could buy in the mid 2000s.
Nice review. Definitely a great truck. Had a 05’ with over 300,000 kilometres and traded in for a used 15’ a few years back. Zero problems knock on wood. Just a great mid size truck. -Pidge
Thanks for sharing your thoughts brother. Appreciate your insights. Sometimes I'm blown away about the people that give a thumbs down.... this was a terrific video and not deserving of it.
Great review. My dad has a 01 Supercharged Frontier he bought new. Doing well with over 313,000 miles. Still on original alternator as well. I replaced the starter at 299k. He also has a 15 Frontier. Still young at 65k. My 13 Titan is doing well but again still young at 76k. I hope you push your Frontier beyond 300k and make another video!
Just bought 2019 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab SV with 4.0L at 10,000 miles for $20,000 in Tucson, I love it! My 4.0L has more power than my current 02 Tahoe 4.8L. I had to grab this 2019 Frontier with 4.0L because all 4.0L V6 will phase out by now so replaced with 3.8L V6 for 2020 Frontier with this current style model.
I told my father that I was planning on getting a Dodge Challenger as my second car and he really seemed disappointed. A couple months later I told him maybe a truck would be better and his eyes lit up and the first two trucks he told me to look at were the Nissan Frontiers and 2nd gen Tacoma’s. He drives a first gen Tundra and loves his trucks, really solid. I’m hoping to get a frontier within the next year once work picks back up again.
From South Africa. Thanks for the review it is very well done. I have the same vehicle and love it. In our tuff conditions it does not miss a beat. Here we call it the Nissan Navara.
I have had my 2011 Frontier 4x4 SV Crew Cab for 9+ years. 181k miles and love it! It's my daily driver. I use it for hunting, mountainbike trips and have used it for trail maintenance. Also general hauling and occasional towing. It performs well. I am ready to spend money overhauling it. Going from 70s to 75s on tires Bilstein shocks, Hellwig rear sway bar, TRW front springs upper and lower ball joints. Tie rods and ends. New sway bar bushings and sway bar end links. Engine is getting a K&N intake, Jet Mass Air Sensor, Jackson Wire Helix throttle body spacer, a Stillen under drive pulley and a Bully Dog GT Performer programmer. Next year I will go for exhaust. Also when the brakes need replacing I want drilled and slotted rotors. This truck is staying with me for a while longer!
believe it or not, i have a 2007 nissan frontier also, she has 229,000 miles on her. like you, i enjoy this mid size truck. i have both chrome bumpers also, lava red (like yours); only difference is mine vehicle is a long wheel base. for what i do, this truck has satisfied my needs. i do have another truck (diesel), i only break it out, when my nissan is down. i have wore out the drive seat, climbing in and out of her. i have recently gone to the junk yard and brought a pair of front seats from another frontier (beige). i have also added an extra exterior fan; where i come from; it is super hot; temperatures over a 100 degrees for over 3 months a year. so i flip a switch and let this fan assist the existing fans on the vehicle. but all in all, would i buy this truck again..... HELL YEAH.
I bought a 2018 SV 4X4 long bed in October last year. I couldn't be happier with my decision to go Frontier. You get 99% of the truck for 10k less. It's a real deal in the auto market right now
Best truck ever, have an 08 se with 80k been living in it for the past month exploring logging roads of the pacific northwest. This truck is an absolute tank, just replaced my radiator it was leaking on the top and bottom and did oil pan drop on transmission. She now runs like she did in 08 😁
Good to hear. How are you living out of it, do you have a truck cap, camper, or tow behind? I have slept a few times reclining the seats, and it worked, but would be ideal if I had a longer bed and could put a truck cap on it. All the best
@@beactivelife cheers! when camping i remove everything from the bed and lay a plyboard down as my base, then carpet and few slleping pads, and keep the tailgate open and am able to easily fit a 2 person tent thats 8ft long. I feel a little safer off the ground with my 13lb dog, and its always comfy no rock or bugs to worry about
My 2011 frontier sv 4x4 cc was great. Traded with 60000 miles on the original bf long trails on it. I bought a 2013 titan sv 4x4 cc. Love that truck too. Gave it to my son and bought a 2017 titan sv 4x4. It's been great. Thanks for your time and effort on doing this review.
Bought a 2005 LE with about 17,000. Truck was loke new with sunroof, roof rack, toolbox etc. Replaced the radiator myself. Went just over 200,000. Finally NE truck succumbed to rust but that engine was still purring and dry as a bone. Great truck so I just bought a 2018 Pro 4X used and love it.
Thanks for sharing, I'm looking into getting a 2021, I had an 04 Xterra for 14 years, and regret trading in with only 65K for a Rouge but now I need something with a bigger engine. your truck looks great thanks again.
Nice. Thanks for doing the review. My daily driver is a 2015 Frontier SV King Cab with the 4.0, bought with 56k on it, now @ 89k. I love the truck. Tons of power, and like you said, it's really fun to drive. My previous truck was a 2005 Colorado Z71, and let me tell you the Nissan is a FAR better truck than the 1st gen Colorado was. I have had ZERO breakdowns/repairs on my frontier (unless you count the leaky Nissan battery that I had to replace), and it has performed awesome for me over the two years I've had it. It has been dealer maintained its whole life - usually not something I do, but when I bought it the truck had complete service history with Nissan, so I kept it going mainly for resale value. It was doing daily duty as a hauler/construction work truck with a full ladder rack and I would haul trim material and doors and such with it daily. Never missed a beat, however I did upgrade the rear shocks to Bilstein, and I added Timbren helpers on the rear to help with the heavy hauling I was doing, and both really made a big improvement. Without the Timbrens it would squat past level when loaded, after adding them it goes to level and stops. rides much better now when loaded, and much less sway. The only two options I wish it had (notes for next purchase) are the sprayed bed liner, and the Utili-trac rails. My truck has the plastic bed liner and it is slippery - nothing stays where I put it. I learned after purchase that the factory Utili-Trac option cannot be added since the bed is actually re-enforced at the factory for mounting the rails, and if the truck wasn't originally spec'd for them, then the mounting tabs wont be there. Now my frontier is on commute duty only as I am in the office now. :) Keeping the mileage down, I like it!!! The only minor issue I have noticed with it is every once in a while it has a delayed/slow 2-3 shift, only on moderate to hard acceleration - it never does it if babied. I dunno what that's about, but I am not really concerned about it as it's occasional and runs great otherwise. I also have a 2010 Xterra Off-Road - and while I love the X and the KC Frontier, the X barely gets driven and it costs a small fortune to register, insure, and maintain both... so... I had a 2019 CC Frontier as a rental about a month ago, and Loved it, so... I will probably be selling the X and the Fronty in the next few months and combining the two into one Crew Cab Frontier PRO-4X in Glacier White - and that will be the last truck I buy for at least the next 10-15 years.
Good to hear that your trucks have been treating you well. The Crew Cab Pro-4X sounds like it would be a good fit for you. Hope that you get your hands on the one that you want. All the best and thanks for sharing your experiences with your Frontier and X.
@@beactivelife Just following up... I decided to go with the SV 4x4 instead of the PRO-4X, and I just took delivery of a 2019 Frontier SV 4x4 Crew Cab in Gun Metallic this evening.
@@thespiritof76. Yep, 2 years and a little over 18,000 miles in on my 2019. It's been trouble free. I added a tonneau cover, and I upgraded the radio to add Carplay. I don't plan to ever get rid of it. I also have a 2010 Xterra Off Road, that's my toy. I like my Nissans.
I'm convinced I'm buying a 2005 for 9000 with original 80,000 miles on it only one owner can't wait to get it thanks for the video man this convinced me
I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier with a 2.4liter I bought new. 219600 miles and still going. Was used as work truck until I retired. Worth the twelve grand.
Just bought a 2002 xe crew cab long bed with 80k miles for $5000 , has some rust for its age but overall mechanically sound , cant wait for the adventures i will have with this truck , was hesitant to get it at first as i really want a Dodge Dakota , but cheers for a honest review !
I have a nissan 2006 too and I was worried about the radiator failure so I installed n external radiator for transmission and work well. Thanks for you video, I appreciate it.
My 2016 Frontier SV has 202000 miles on it now. Owned it since new has been the most reliable vehicle. Its never broken down or been in a shop. Ive had two CEL lights on. One was for a clogged EVAP canister and the other was a bad MAF. The evap canister failed at around 140k and the MAF failed at 197k. Other then that, it has no problems. Only complaint is road noise. Great vehicle for sure.
Great review! I'm looking at buying one 06 frontier with 137,000 miles on it was hoping it would make it at least 4 years I think it will from this review.
I've had 3 frontiers. Currently own a 2wd Silver 2014 SV, V6, crew cab with 59k miles ( purchased in mid 2016 with 21k miles ). Certified pre-owned ( still getting free oil changes, tire rotation and inspections at Nissan dealership ) Great truck. If I had to nit-pick I'd mention the lack of gas mileage ( average around 17mpg with mixed driving ), the lack of bluetooth music streaming capability ( must use an aux cord ), my usb thumb drive contains about 800 music files ( songs ) but this 2014 factory radio only sees 255 files. Heading to Florida from Virginia on 1 July 2020 in my Frontier. When I return ( maybe before ) I'm having the transmission, rear differential and brake fluids changed as recommended by Nissan. I need to investigate a replacement radio with touch screen and all of the modern features.
I'm thinking of buying a local 2012 with 122k on it. It was owned in Kentucky and the underbody is pretty darn clean. What is your opinion on these trucks?
2008 here, purchased in 09 second owner (came from rental lot), after reading about the rad issue, i just replaced the rad and that was that. i've modified the suspension and a couple of other minor mods and i just love the truck. also 6 5 and find it to be roomy and comfortable. simple, solid, durable and trustworthy vehicle. sure it's old school, but so am i.
Have a 2011 Suzuki Equator which is a rebadged Frontier. No issues except I keep getting a PO101 code in the winter. Cleaned the MAF sensor many times. Still get the code. Scanner shows everything’s running like it should. Otherwise it’s a strong truck. Only gripe I have is the the turning radius sucks. Great value! Paid 22,900 new!
Have a used 2012 V6 Frontier with just over 41,000 miles taken on one short trip over the Big Horns and otherwise around National Grasslands. I own and have driven Jeeps since 1971. Asked if I would trade the Frontier for a Gladiator, I would not. I believe the old sage who said "Keep it simple, stupid."
My wife has a 2012 V6 base model and it's been a great truck! She got it with 23K on it and it now has 78K. Other then a fan resisitor ($29) Wiper blades $30 and a set of brakes apx.$200 And a battery apx $100 it's been a great truck ! Gas mileage isn't great apx.16 on average and the steering is tight as is the susupenion. But I would surely recomend this truck!
I also own a 2006 Nissan Frontier and have over 200k miles and never left me stranded,,,,but I always have mine dealer serviced. Cost a little more but figure better safe than sorry,,,I would like to buy a new Frontier but my 06 still runs great,,,cold AC and decent gas mile. Thanks
just bought an 06 frontier se 2wd. its tall like a 4x4 with chunky tires. has limited slip option. been wanting one for many years. its a california truck with no rust and only 86k miles. auto v6 and king cab which opens up to four doors. the good thing is the previous owner heard about the bad radiators and he installed a new one with an external tranny cooler. i really like the truck. i hope it lasts a long time because i have never owned a vehicle that wasnt always breaking down
I've also ran Amsoil after my first oil change. Still runs like new. Blue Paint is the only problem. Paint peeling and more belt pully replaced several times after a year to have been replaced. It always starts whining when it's cold weather.
I have owned two Xterras. They are essentially the same as a frontier (2008 and 2009). I loved both of them and both got written off by careless drivers. I miss my Nissans so much, great in the snow and off road. I currently drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, more comfy but no comparison to the Nissan.
If I waxed it up it will still look excellent. No rust or paint chipping. Plastic is faded with sun but that is to be expected. Very impressed with how the exterior is holding up.
@@beactivelife use 303 aerospace will bring back the black plastic to new condition. Just sold a 05 pathfinder that still looked mint. These things really hold up over time. People say the interior is cheap but the seats/dash etc.. is very durable. Can't say that about many cars/trucks.
I've always thought this was a good looking truck. The Tacoma has gotten pretty darn ugly. It doesn't even have a proper front bumper anymore. Just a giant plastic facia like most cars these days.
Changed out my carrier bearing today and it was a good move to make. Step 1. Remove the driveshaft assembly. 2. Buy a new carrier bearing (mine cost around $70 at O'Reilly's). 3. Take the assembly to a reputable shop to hydraulic press off the old and the new one on (charged me $30). 4. Reinstall the refreshed D/S assembly and you're back on the road. Test drove the truck this evening and everything is smooth and quiet!
My dad had a 2007 Frontier King Cab 4WD. He really didn't keep up with maintenance on it and made it to 300K then got into an accident. The airbags deployed and there was front end damage but the truck still ran great. The insurance company didn't want to repair the truck so they gave him $4500 for it. The truck was a work truck so naturally it wasn't in the best of shape, so we were surprised he got that much. With the insurance money he bought a 2012 Pathfinder and it has been good to him since. I am looking at a 2011 Frontier SL tomorrow. It is fully loaded and I am excited about it. If everything looks good I'll more than likely buy it.
Great review. Loved the landscape that you showed at the end of the video. There is nothing like that where I live now. I have a 2015 King Cab that I purchased used with the 4 cyl automatic, roll down windows, no electric locks. Got a cap on order. This is my 6th Nissan and second Frontier. I live near the coast so the land is flat. If I lives where you are I would have gone with the 6 cyl.
I also have a 2003 Nissan frontier. I hav 175,000 miles plus on mine. Never done any thing but change oil. Filters , oil and air. Still runs great and dependable.
I had a 2006 se v6 with manual trans. Best and most enjoyable truck I've ever had. Same story. 10 years 196000 miles. Did the fuel censor under warranty. Replaced an AC blower fan resister for $80 bucks. Never a break down. Did a starter at 180 and a crank censor at the same time. Both easy. I did a tune up at 110000 and the plugs still looked new. First brakes at 90 and the radiator went at 195. Its the only vehicle I've ever missed. I did a lot of towing and off road. Great truck.
95,000 on my 06 original brakes, timing chain issues fixed under warranty, did a bypass on the tyranny radiator cooler, had to replace the fuel sender out of warranty. Love my frontier still.
Just got my first car, a 12 frontier pro 4x and I love it! Has 105,000 and hope it last this long. Ive grown up with it cause it was my dads who bought it new. But I think it will, we’ve never had any problems.
Great review! My 2008 4.0V6 4X4 SE long bed has 280,000 on it and I'm hoping to get another 100,000 out of it before I need to buy another one. I'm a little hard on my truck as I use it for work and play which encompasses cross country trips to the mountians hauling dirtbikes to the daily work use in my business of delivery and assembly of outdoor leisure structures like gazebos and playsets as well as exercise equipment. I haul a lot of heavy things in the bed and I tow a heavy 6X12 cargo trailer quite often for work. It has been the most reliable and versatile truck I've owned which is saying a good bit as my last truck was a 2001 4.7V8 4X4 Toyota Tundra Limited which was also a Great truck but the Frontier has beat it out as my Tundra developed a cam issue at 250,000 miles and had less power and worse mpgs then the Frontier.
@@kamikazikaizer ---Thats a fair question. I wanted to buy a frontier exactly like the 2010. Same engine and same transmission before they redesign this and possibly screw it up. There was literally nothing wrong with my 2010 when I traded it in on the 2018 except it had almost 200,000 miles on it. My 2018 has just over 40,000 on it now. Just an old school simple dead nuts reliable truck.
Thanks for the reply. Thinking of a frontier but still skeptical of it's reliability especially electrical issues on Nissans but haven't heard much about frontier.
@@kamikazikaizer --Keep in mind that the Nissan cars are not as reliable as they used to be. This is because of many changes (CVT etc. ) however the frontier is virtually the same since 2005 or so other than heated seats, blue tooth etc. It is currently rated the most reliable in its class. Also excellent 4x4 system for snow and mud. Test drive one. The last of the old school, simple reliable trucks.
i gotta 2010 down here in the south, its a v4 with a manual transmission. i have the king cab version with plate seats in the back and i tell ya this little guy is a fun its so light ive driven through a swamp and took it out to a clay road. wet, dry, semi dry clay is no issue just as long as you keep on moving. ive taken this thing out to bareback woods and even fell into at least 5 holes that were at least 4 feet deep all at one time my only regret is i dont have a lift or offroad tires. get those and tear out your muffler and youll have a lightweight offroad truck. hell with a snorkler and maybe wheel spacers with the right rims and tires you can go mud bogging and get your buddies to pull you out for the shits and giggles. my only complaints are that over time the tire pressure gauge busted and the truck begins to have issues turning over and starting up.
Have a 2015 SV V6 with 98k haven't done any major things yet but replaced tires, brakes, battery and front end alignment used synthetic oil entire mileage. But at 100k I'm doing fluid changes, spark plugs and belt change. Used high quality air and oil filters and don't forget about the cabin filter. Every 10k miles or so I use 1bottle of techron with full tank of 93 octane fuel to run through system.Throttle body is cleaned frequently. Truck runs perfect, I want to make the second 100k trouble free too.
Strongly considering buying one of these, i have two 99 dodge ram 1500s, but I'm trying to sell them to get a smaller nicer truck without all the glitz everything comes with these days. I don't like the grill or gate styling personally but I'm in love with everything else about these. Glad to see they're reliable long lasting vehicles
3:24 The years in which this issue was the most common was in the 2005-2010 models (ATF and Coolant Cross Contamination).
Link is to Xterra forum, but info applies to Frontier also.
www.thenewx.org/threads/list-of-calsonic-radiator-part-numbers-associated-with-smod.220778/
Oh, and I remember reading somewhere regarding the secondary timing chains and guides that the revised parts were being used in production starting with 2010 models, and I can confirm that I have not had any issues with mine.
@@douglejeune6078 how much did it cost you to fix ?
I just scrapped a 2008 with 560,000! Never dripped a drop of oil. Picking up a 2019 tomorrow morning!
Thats awesome hope that your new truck treats you well. And that is a lot of miles to drive with an 2008
did u get the 2019
Wow! I'm crossing my fingers that my 2008 4.0V6 4X4 SE long bed will go that distance. It's got 280,000 on it now so I'm half way there.
Wow 50 thousand miles a year driven!!! Were you a delivery driver or what because that is a insane amount of driving?
This is good news. I sold my 2012 manual 4x for a 2018 auto 4x, and was worried about the transmission. I've been looking for this kind of info for a year.
These long term vehicle reviews are super, super valuable. I wish more people would do these. Thank you.
My 2017 Frontier has been great so far. 48k miles. No issues yet.
Congratulations! Just bought one and I absolutely love it!
2016 Frontier SL - love it! 121,000 miles. Just replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Repairs are easy.
You don't owe anyone an explanation or apology for what you drive.

Totally agree. Just bought a 2019 Frontier with manual transmission.
The BEST feature is that it has no features!
Less crap to go wrong
@@riffraff2770 "The BEST feature is that it has no features!

Those words should be inscribed on a monument!
Absolutely 100% agree with you.
Is the gas cap locked?
Well the Frontier is getting a new smaller v6 for 2020 and a new body for 2021 though the body style has been in use in Australia for a few years now. Looks too girly with swept headlights IMHO. I won't buy another because I LOVE my 06 with manual trans AND the 6' bed, I often haul a dirtbike or two and with one I can turn it sideways and close the tailgate with an inch to spare. I often go dirtbike camping and stuff a bunch of gear in the bed too so having a closing tailgate is a must, I know.. bed extender, but that has huge gaps so no thanks!!
Just bought a 2019 Crew cab SV 4X4 this March and love it. Also did not want a bunch of new age tech stuff. Love the simplicity of the vehicle.
Thanks my friend, great review! The North American Nissan Frontier is a very reliable and affordable mid-size Pickup truck, I love it too!
Thanks for taking the time to watch it. Hope the Frontier lasts you for many more years
@@beactivelife You're welcome, thanks and same to you my friend!
Thank you for watching and I hope that your truck serves you well for a long time to come
I just grabbed my 2012 today silver same spec as you but grey interior so far I'm in love.
@@travispowell2471 Well I’ve now had my Frontier for 3 1/2 years…. 24,000 miles. I’m still happy with it. No issues.
one of the best trucks and underrated
I bought a 2018 Pro4X a little over two months ago. I did a lot or research and all the reviews stated that it was a no nonsense reliable truck. I pulled the trigger and so far I am loving it. Great Review!
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your truck, and thanks for taking the time to watch. Take care
Is it still running good? I am looking for a Nissan frontier around that year but not sure yet.
Thanks, I am glad that the video helped you
They’re nice trucks!
4cyl or 6cyl and do you have the manual or automatic?
Why do you drive Uber with ur truck

@@nuevision8 135.000 miles now. Just a battery and the camshaft sensors. 😊
You are only replacing the brakes and ball joints the first time at 197,000 miles? That’s impressive if that’s the case...
I also have a 2017 frontier sv 4x4. 48k miles. No issues yet.
I have a 2012 4X4 with 95xxx miles.
No issues.
I wouldn't sell it for less than $30k.
Best vehicle I have ever owned.
Winning points are as followings:
1. Dana 44 rear and locker - cant beat that!
2. Beefier Transfer case (ZR-2 one is better but ZR-2 does NOT have sunroof~!) than Tacoma.
3. Yes, Sunroof...did I mention sunroof? Nicely tucked between roof rack where I can tie down Mad Max victims

Thank for the positive review, I own the 2011 Pro4X and love it its a great small truck at 15 city and 19 hwy.
Thx bud! I am pretty intent on buying one of these. This was helpful.
Thanks for the video! I'm looking at used frontiers right now and this really cemented my decision! I'm hoping to get 10+ years out of it as well
@@Mike.D.843 Still got the truck? How do you like it?
@@thespiritof76. Yep, 2 years and a little over 18,000 miles in on my 2019. It's been trouble free. I added a tonneau cover, and I upgraded the radio to add Carplay. I don't plan to ever get rid of it. I also have a 2010 Xterra Off Road, that's my toy. I like my Nissans.
Thanks for this, I am considering the crew cab Desert Runner version for myself. Its nice to see a real long term testimonial of how these hold up.
You're welcome. The Desert Runner is a nice rig.
I have the new 2019 desert runner for about 8 months. So far, so good. Love it.
@@justintonel1920 Nice truck, glad that you like it and hope it lasts you a long time
@@justintonel1920 I just got a 2018 desert runner and i love it. Just need money to add some things here and there for my satisfaction 😂
@@kirksingletary3788 well worth the price for a base truck. Who knows I might have to do the some add ons for the 2019 desert I own.
I'm convinced I'm buying a 2005 for 9000 with original 80,000 miles on it only one owner can't wait to get it thanks for the video man this convinced me
Good luck hope it suits you well. Price is on the high side but as long as you thoroughly check it out and it's what you want. Take care
how is the car holding up?
Luis Barragan how much did it costs ?
I did the same on my 07,plan on keeping it for years.
Just bought a 2019 frontier SL as my first truck. I'm really loving it can't wait to add some mods. Great video Now i know what to look out for.
You just missed the bluetooth. My 2017 came with it. Lot of better aftermarket options though.
I've driven my 06 Pathfinder from Costa Coast. This last trip I had over 200,000 miles and towed a dual axle U-Haul from Maryland to OREGON.
I have a 2011 xterra, manual trans. I love it!
I'm thinking of buying a local 2012 with 122k on it. It was owned in Kentucky and the underbody is pretty darn clean. What is your opinion on these trucks?
Nissan was the only company that allowed me to own a powerful midsize truck.... thank u Nissan
My brothers 2008 Frontier has a little over 280K and it’s out lived my 2013 Silverado. 😂
Frontiers are underrated. Sorry about your Silverado. That sucks
Thanks
Good Video. I love my 2017 Pro-4X!
It's classic look and simplicity plus proven reliability were the reasons why I bought my own Nissan Frontier 2020.
just bought an 06 frontier se 2wd. its tall like a 4x4 with chunky tires. has limited slip option. been wanting one for many years. its a california truck with no rust and only 86k miles. auto v6 and king cab which opens up to four doors. the good thing is the previous owner heard about the bad radiators and he installed a new one with an external tranny cooler. i really like the truck. i hope it lasts a long time because i have never owned a vehicle that wasnt always breaking down
my grandma still has her 2005 SE runs really good very clean she took care of it it’s such a beast but she treats it like a princess
I own a first gen Frontier. It is a great truck! I don't "really need a pickup" either, until I do.
I've also ran Amsoil after my first oil change. Still runs like new. Blue Paint is the only problem. Paint peeling and more belt pully replaced several times after a year to have been replaced. It always starts whining when it's cold weather.
I love how small it is
Really great review! I'll be sharing it on a playlist on my channel.
Love this video. Very thorough and very helpful.
The exterior looks like pretty good for a 2006 model.
It's aged well
I've always thought this was a good looking truck. The Tacoma has gotten pretty darn ugly. It doesn't even have a proper front bumper anymore. Just a giant plastic facia like most cars these days.
*Great little truck,my friend has a 07 one manual with almost 300k miles*
Thanks for the review. Looking at a 2006 with the nismo package. Very thorough walk thru! I know what to look for now thanks!
Vq640 engine. Men are nerds today. All of em. My grandsons are just like this boy, nerds. And they never stop talking.
Good to hear that you are enjoying your Frontier. Thanks for watching. Take care
I also have a 2003 Nissan frontier. I hav 175,000 miles plus on mine. Never done any thing but change oil. Filters , oil and air. Still runs great and dependable.
That's good to hear. I drove in my 06 for about 6 hours today. 208000 miles now!! Love it - my favorite vehicle to drive
Great to hear, maybe someday you will acquire another one. Take care
95,000 on my 06 original brakes, timing chain issues fixed under warranty, did a bypass on the tyranny radiator cooler, had to replace the fuel sender out of warranty. Love my frontier still.
Good to hear! I am at 228000 now still driving great!
Wow, thats incredible 👏
*Great little truck,my friend has a 07 one witj almost 300k miles*
Just got my first car, a 12 frontier pro 4x and I love it! Has 105,000 and hope it last this long. Ive grown up with it cause it was my dads who bought it new. But I think it will, we’ve never had any problems.
That's a great first car, take care of it and it should last you a long time. Take care
beactivelife; I plan on it, I’m already saving to get some small stuff fixed on it. You too man!
Hank Hill thought you had a Ford ranger hank.
@@lel3450 I realized I wasn’t a whole man and purchased a Nissan. That’s a fine vehicle I tell ya hwat.
Great to hear, 206,000 on mine now and still going strong. Next stop 300k. Engine sounds just like it was new at idle. Take care
Congrats bro! Badass truck!
Had a 2011 and just bought a 2019 today, love these trucks and you cant beat the price
I had a 2010 and just bought a 2018. Love the frontier.
So it only lasted 8 years. Reason for buying new?
Good review, I own a 2019 sV 4x4, good reliable little truck
Sometimes I miss my old 2010 Frontier, I traded it in last year for a TRD off-road Tacoma. But I loved that frontier, super reliable.
TFS that info 👍 Got a 91 Frontier and for the most part that's been reliable 😉
You got it my friend, I drove a model similar to yours as I was learning to drive many years ago and loved that one too.
Right now Im looking for one. Very helpful your video. Thanks!
No problem, hope you find what you are looking for
Awesome vid! This is also applicable to the Nissan Xterra 2nd gen for the most part (same drivetrain)
It's definitely a truck to look at if you want to go the used route. Tacoma is also excellent, just at a higher price point. Good luck either way
@@beactivelife thanks for the video, simple explanation of some key issues to look for. I'm definitely looking used. Thanks my man
