Yeah, I purchase one of the first 2022 Maverick XL’s in October 2021. AWD with 4K tow package. Nothing else fancy. At 30,000 miles they had to replace the rear differential. lol… a few other electronic issues too that updates haven’t fixed. Hopefully to newer 2024 models have resolved the glitches. It does ride smooth, but I wouldn’t buy ones again. Great video, Scotty!! 👍🏼
Had a 1987 Nissan Hardbody pick up for 30 years, and 400,000 miles. Never did anything to the engine. Sold it to a gardener in Hemet California and is still probably running down there.
@@peterraboni1197 I had an 88 Comanche pick up truck with a 4.0 and an auto. It was my rock crawler . Someone rear ended me in an ice storm and they totaled it. My son in law drove it home when I went to the hospital. I would have kept it as a toy but not only did the accident push the bumper up to the spring hangers but it broke the seat bent the back of the cab and my head took out the back window They gave me $2000 more than I had in it but I sure miss it. The 2004 4 cylinder TJ I had with a 5 speed wasn’t near as reliable. About every few years the bearing in the input shaft would go out I should have gotten the inline six and an auto
He criticized the Maverick and its Mexico manufacturing earlier in video, then recommends it and says Mexico manufacturing is good as the last truck recommendation.
I have a 2016 Frontier. Second owner and got it with 124000. Runs great.4x4 with the 4.0. It’s quiet and I love it. My dad had 1966 Datsun with the little 4banger. Ran forever. I plan on keeping this till I die. I’m 74. I’ve always been a Chevy man but I’m happy with the Frontier. Thanks for the videos.
I wish all that mattered but EVERY companies vehicles can be very different when it comes to reliability from YEAR TO YEAR...I had a friend that had a 2010 Nissan truck that had issues all the time
@@Jeremya74 You're right. But if you just use the internet and don't buy brand new cars, that's an avoidable problem. For example, the Frontier had timing chain issues 07-10 and SMOD issues like 09-12. So 2010 is about the worst year. 2013-2019 were absolutely bullet proof because all the major kinks were worked out.
@@Jeremya74 True. And then there was the guy (search it online) who bought a new 2007 Frontier (2.5L 4 banger with the stick) who delivered expedited packages for a living. Went over 1,000,000 miles (documented). Pretty cool that Nissan gave him a brand new truck if they could have his 2007. It's in their Nissan museum now.
Having owned a few nissans, the key fob sucks. Often they dont detect by car and the car doesn't auto unlock or lock or start without squeezing the fob.
@Hawkmoon26933: They complained about the last Gen Frontier "It's old, ugly, a dinosaur that hasn't changed in 15 years." That's what they said. What I heard/saw was, here's a design that's been built for 15 model years. It's reliable, it's tough, and 15 years must mean something's right. I see them everywhere. Not to mention no shortage of parts/service when and if needed." Love mine.
I had a 23 Frontier as a rental when my Tacoma was in the body shop. Wish I test drove one before I bought the Tacoma. Great power and ride and no hunting for gears.
Totally feel you. So many people trash the frontier… but when you drive one, they are actually super smooth/comfortable. I nearly got a taco but the frontiers were the only trucks around selling for msrp!
The worst thing about new trucks is 4 cylinder turbo engines. Sure, some people think they are just fine, but you can't beat a V6 or a V8 in my opinion.
Yes I concur to that 💯. If they make another gen of frontier, they need to keep the v6 but still change the design. I just hope for higher trims we get the cooled seats and possibly heated seats at the back
I think the jury should still be out on modern 4 or 6 cyl turbo engines. These newer engines were designed from thr get-go to be turbo powered. Previous decades that wasn't always the case. That said, I would personally opt for a tried and true V6, especially in a mid size truck. At least, for now.
Just traded my 2019 Ford Ranger which had to have the transmission overhauled at 59,000 miles!! Got a 2023 Toyota Tacoma with 9200 miles with a 6 cylinder engine and no turbo!!
We Traded our 22 XL Maverick AWD 4-cylinder and loved it. We just bought a 24 with 4k tow package and AWD. And way more things than XL. My 22 Maverick sold as I was doing the paperwork on our 24. It sold less than an hour from the time we traded it in...
When i started my business with nothing, I saved up $1000 and was looking for a cheap work truck to buy, I came across a 98 Nissan Altima for a cheap price and figured it would be a good gas saver, so i bought it. I still have it and drive it to this day, almost 270k on the clock, it leaks oil and coolant and currently the alternater is on its way out but this car has never left me stranded and I beat the hell out of it. I drove it from SC to Ohio for the eclipse, over 1200 miles round trip and it was still flawless and getting around 30mpg with two fuel injectors that tend to stick open! This car conpletely changed my opinions on Nissan. I wouldnt ever buy a later model altima the transmissions are crap, but my next truck will likely be a frontier after watching this!
F150s can do some real work though. You really want oje of those for landscaping your property because it can tow the questionably large sized backhow to your land to dig the hole to plant the trees it also tows easier. You dont want to tow the same backhow in this because its already on the edge for the f150 man the v6 or 4 bangers theres no way.
We have the Maverick lariat hybrid for 18 months and 30000 miles now. No problems, besides a couple recalls, drives great, fuel economy is beyond expectation. My wife loves it!
I had a 2018 Frontier and I miss it. Great truck, never had an issue with it. I only got rid of it to get the larger 2021 Titan for comfort for the family. Also a great truck. We take it everywhere. I hate they are discontinuing them.
My first new car was a 79 Datsun 510 with a 5 speed manny. I drove the crap out of it and nothing broke. Sold it to a friend and his daughter took it all thru 4 yrs of college.
Those early Japanese vehicles were great. I believe that a lot of it was due to unadorned simplicity. Plain Jane, basic RELIABLE vehicles. Now, all vehicles are ultra-complicated and loaded down with " must have" stuff, not to mention the emissions monstrosities they have to contend with. It's amazing how they do as well as they do, considering. Especially Toyota and Mazda. I do like the current Frontier. Even though I am a Toyota fan, I believe the Frontier's exterior looks better than the Tacoma. Now about the upcoming Stout...
My Ford Maverick lariat hybrid has just under 75,000 miles on it and it has been flawless! Except for the failure of a 12 V OEM battery I have not had any issues at all. In fact, I ordered a 2024.
I’ve bought two Nissan trucks in a row. The old hard body 4 banger gave me 375,000 miles before I sold it to a guy who drove it around another 5 years before totaling it. I still have a 2009 frontier v6 with 206,000 miles. I bought a U.S. built 2022 Ram 5.7 liter hemi with etorque and it’s the one I worry about the most. Nissan builds a good truck. Buy it, maintain it and you won’t regret it.
I just came back from Hermosillo, MX and passed an easy 50 new semis carrying 6 new beautiful Broncos or Mavericks. If they were behind on production, I think not anymore. Their plant is running 24 hours a day.
I bought a Maverick 2 months ago. It now has 2200 miles had have nothing but good things to say about it so far. I sold my 2022 Toyota RAV4 to have a small pickup truck.
Wife has a 2014 Frontier. Over 200K miles. The OEM brakes (with us towing with it) lasted until 170K miles. In it's 200K miles we've only ever had to replace the Crank Position Sensor at 180K (one BOLT, easy job). Runs strong, still orig spark plugs. They are solid and reliable and SIMPLE. The body design is simple. That's what my wife loves about it. She hates the growth in size in the new gen Frontier. Gonna drive this one till the wheels come off. Here is a tip for V6 Nissan SUV/Frontier folks.. run premium. Your truck will thank you. The engine runs much much better on premium. Also tows more.
Love my new Maverick, great in the snow with front wheel drive, I haul 1000 lbs in the bed on a regular basis, is really quick and handles well and seats 5! No complaints.
As a homeowner I have needed a PU truck since forever. All the American brands are way too overpriced and have serious issues. The US Ranger is a generation behind. Got it down to the Tacoma or the Ridgeline. Learned the Taco is now assembled south of the border and experiencing reliability problems. Discovered the Ridgeline had a timing belt, that single issue made me walk. I have spent over $15K on my 3 Civics and VW Golf for Timing belts. Enough already. Have had my Frontier 13 months now and am thoroughly pleased with it.
Love my 2019 Frontier. Opted for that when the Rangers came out since they were $35K plus tax I got my Nissan for $28K out the door. 57K miles NO issues.
Ya, I have a '06 MDX with the same drive train as the ridgeline... 160K miles, but my dad has a '07 Ridgeline with almost 400K miles, still going strong. The Honda Pilot shares the same drive train.
I got the new 24 Pro-4X specifically because of the 6 cylinder. I expect this truck to last me for the next 20 years. It drives soooo smooth. I LOVE it.
Everyone needs a reliable vehicle. Buying used isn't for someone with limited automotive knowledge. Don't trust anyone. There's always a reason why a used vehicle is for sale.
@@jstravelers4094 zero automotive knowledge needed, many good honest mechanics out there, been one for 35 years and I take my 2001 Outback out of state often, 190K on it. Keep up on rotating parts and it’s reliable, haven’t had a breakdown in 30 years!
I have a new 2024 Frontier Pro X. Great truck. I've have many Nissan trucks over the years and they have all served me well. Very reliable with strong engines.
Chrysler retiree. Had 2 dakotas, and 5 Dodge Rams in my lifetime. Bought a 2016 Nissan Frontier in 2017. Traded that in for a 2022 frontier in Sept. 2021. The frontiers are great trucks. No mechanical issues whatsoever. Hate to say it, but the frontier is the best truck i've ever owned.
I was looking last year (to tow boat) and it came down to GMC Canyon or Ridgeline. Ridgeline had more features I wanted. Trunk, dual taigate were majors. It also handles a 4 ft wide panel/drywall and tows 5k lbs Rides like my Caddy did and reliable like my Camry and gets 21 mpg to top it off. If your not using it as a truck every day, it's the way to go. Mine's a 2020
yeah the Ridgeline is my favorite truck. I like the built in bedliner and trunk, side opening tailgate, interior and ride comfort and the natural aspirated V6. The bed fits 4x8 sheets of drywall or sheet rock perfectly.
Scotty, I have a Ram, and it has the stop start cram in it. I purchased a device that I could bypass the start stop. If you shut it off, it stays off, and if you turn it on, it stays on. Works great.
Thanks man! I have a 23' Ridgeline with the HPD Black package. I'll turn off the start/stop. Love the truck. Figured it will last a long time. Kind of an El Camino/Mini-Van hybrid when you think about it. Fun to drive too.
They're great trucks! I bought a brand new 2013 Ridgeline and sold it to my son and purchased a 2019 Ridgeline. No issues ever with either vehicle. The 2013 has over 100K on it now
The Ridgeline is my favorite truck for a lot of reasons. I love the built in bedliner, trunk, side opening tailgate, interior comfort, ride comfort, the Vtech V6 and the bed fits 4x8 sheets of drywall or sheet rock perfectly.
I’m thinking about buying one. The only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger yet is my ego going from a Tacoma, but I can’t justify spending the amount of money they want for the New tacomas...
For the Honda, you can order a small wiring harness that can replace the current one by the shifter. this will automatically default to turn off your "Idle Stopper" as soon as you start the car so you will never have to worry about those annoying engine shutdowns. it is especially annoying and unsafe when you get ready to jump into traffic, quickly step on the gas and find that the engine has to start first. I got mine for $100 on Amazone and it took less then 5min to install.
The Ridgeline is a fantastic truck. I love the built in bedliner, trunk, side opening tailgate, interior comfort, ride comfort and the Vtech V6. The bed fits 4x8 sheets of drywall or sheet rock beautifully.
I have 5600 miles on my 2023 AWD Ridgeline Sport that I use to tow a Ranger 185VS bassboat & it does fine. Friend has the same & suggested I drive one. I changed from full size 2WD GMC Crew Cab SLE-1 V8 to midsize Honda because of price. GMC priced themselves outa my range after owning 2 for 14 1/2 yrs each. The AWD Ridgeline Sport was $41640 OTD. GMC was >24k more. I didn’t test anything else. And today Ram truck dealer near me has 20% off MSRP. I “may” have gone that route had they been priced as such.
Purchased a 2024 Maverick Lariat Hybrid two weeks ago. I am pleased with my purchase. As you stated, it has incredible gas mileage and a superior ride. Thanks for the review.
They're all too expensive. But if you shop used and are patient - and do your homework knowing the vehicle history and having it checked out BEFORE you buy - you can still get a solid truck at a fair price. Just not a Toyota.
When Scotty was talking about the Honda he said mavericks were junk,,,but then turns around and says they are better than Toyotas…smh. Can’t make this up,,,cmon man.
@@BlueJaysFanOne Oddly, Consumer Reports rates the Mavericks higher than both the Ridgeline and the Frontier. Who knows. I test drove all three. The Honda had the best ride of the 3, very comfortable. Ford had great handling and views of the road...and of course the FWD Hybrid is the new gold standard in economy for a pickup truck. The Nissan was nice but I didn't like the ride or handling as much as the other two...probably most similar to the Toyota Tacoma. If I were taking a kayak up a rough mountain road I'd probably choose the Nissan 4x4 (or Tacoma). I bought a '23 Maverick. Only pull small trailers occasionally, hard to beat the price, and I'm averaging 35mpg since I've owned it (almost all Winter miles). Dealer let me drive it home to test the first night as I got there around close. 100 mile round trip (half the trip 65mph hwy speeds, 40% 55mph hwy speeds, rest 25-35mph...averaged 41 mpg. First trip above 60 degrees 44mpg 50 miles round trip.
I saved up for a very, very long time to buy a new truck. However, the cost of new trucks increased much more dramatically than I thought they would. I originally wanted a fully decked out Tacoma TRD Offroad....but I couldn't get one under 55K. I drove one and just as Scotty said....it was hunting for gears and just wasn't comfortable to sit in. So, I decided to go check out the new Frontiers. I found a brand new (at the time), 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X that had everything I really wanted and it was in the low 40's. I think the total came to something like 44K. I drove it and it was so much more comfortable and drove so much more smoothly than the Tacoma. So, I bought it and I'm extremely happy with it. And now...after watching this video....I feel even better about that decision.
things cost more because the dollar has depreciated 50% since 2003. Back in the early 2000s you could buy a fully decked v8 truck for 25k, every single top trim option. Well when all your gov does is print ask for more loans never pay the prevs 16b a year this is the result!
I like bought toyota and nissan! I bought a tacoma trd off road last june absolutely love it. I was also looking at the Frontier because they keep it more simple
I ordered an AWD maverick XLT the week they first became available for order in Sept 2021. Took six months to be delivered. Paid sticker price of 30K. You COULD order one with plain steel wheels and no features for about 21k. But for the extra nine k I got the apple play, the better looking wheels, the AWD 250 hp 8 speed engine and the 4k tow package plus 110 outlets inside and in the bed, bed liner, rear window. Still HALF the price of a similarly equipped f-150, and smaller, more nimble and with the same carrying capacity. So far, I am very happy with it. It’s even better than my 2004 tacoma was as far as storage, power, and load. I’ll be surprised if it lasts as long as those 04 six cylinder tacomas… but as far as utility and features… I like it better. As regards the bed… it has a better bed than the 04 tacoma crew cab had. It has features built into the bed like a second cable clip for the tailgate that makes the truck able to haul 4x8 sheet goods. So the short bed has not been a problem at all. I routinely haul a dozen sheets of plywood, or 1500 lbs of plaster, and with the 250 horse 8 speed, you can’t even feel it.
Just bought a 2024 Frontier Pro 4X, nice truck, after owning a 2011 frontier, and renting a 2019. The frontier suspension on the pro 4x is a big step up, the sv trim is bouncy at highway speeds from my tastes, but a solid truck, and suspension can be tuned to taste with aftermarket shocks and struts as a DIY job for a reasonable price
@@NVRAMboi They're out there, I've seen many driving around. When I was shopping every dealer that had ever taken one in trade said it was gone within 24 hours...impossible to keep in stock. I wish I had bought a fleet of the 2022 XL's for $20K each...last one I saw listed had 19,000 miles and sold for around 28K.
I am original owner of a 2003 Nissan Frontier 2WD with 144,000 miles. Runs great. Only problem I had to replace radiator at 75,000 miles. It has been kept outside all these years in the south with no blisters on the clear coat paint sealant. I just had the first detail done on it because the wife refused to ride in it and the paint looks like new again. 0:43
My 4 cylinder Range works just fine. The Nissan that I drive for work, works fine also, but gets lousey gas mileage...too heavy with poor gas mileage in the city. But, it works.
I think it's all luck of the draw. I had my ranger fixed 12 times under warranty within two years. I work at a hospital and on freezing cold nights when I would get called in my ranger would bog out in the middle of the road. I had to put it in neutral and rev it up to warm the engine. The local Ford guys told me the engine should be ran for 15 minutes before it runs well... traded the truck at 20,000 miles.
@tjames525 It really must be...! I'm sorry your Ranger let you down! Mine (s) were all pretty darn good. Perfect, no...but it got me where I needed to be... sometimes without heat, but I got there cheaply!
I've been shopping for a new truck and didn't even consider the Ridgeline an option at first. Now I'm seriously considering it. The more I see the more it seems like a great option.
3.3 2002 Supercharged Frontier 4-speed automatic - - 460,000 and still on the road. 4.0 2010 Frontier 5-speed automatic - - 365,000 4.0 2016 Frontier 5-speed automatic - - 85,000 and counting (I'm retired and don't drive as much). Pulled a 3,500-pound trailer like it wasn't there. Nissan needs to dump those CVT's and bring back conventional automatics and manual transmissions. I rest my case.
I drive a 2012 ford focus. I just changed the rear wheel bearings for first time yesterday at 294000 miles. Changed the plugs for the first time at 260000. Ive never changed the serpentine belt but i have a new one just incase. I did have to change the water pump at 160000. But so far engine and transmission are still working great.
I'm sure it wasn't something Toyota wanted to do, but the "government" is making it impossible for auto makers to continue making large gas powered V8's, and V6's too - "climate change" ya know! Funny how we never see the politicians that make these rules driving small, high mileage vehicles!!
I really like the Titan I drive for work, the V8 in it is great, it makes fantastic noises and is a blast to drive. It does have DI, but dirty intake valves can be mitigated. I would consider a newish one if I was seriously in the market for something like that. 2024 is their last year after that it will be dead as well 😔
I agree. They are even getting rid of the V6s and if the concerns of my personal mechanic and even Scotty are true then these turbos may really affect the Toyota brand reliability.
I have a v4 2012 turbo regal 150k no check engine light except one time for o2 sensor it a manual so did have to replace clutch love that turbo 4 best car I have had in a while
My complaint is trucks with four doors. I want a truck with a two door cab and a longer bed. I had a small 1978 Toyota Hilux with a 5 speed. I miss not being able to get a basic truck without all the computer crap on them.
I have the AWD Maverick with tow and off road package and the longer I have it (2 years) the more I love it. Great baby truck, hauls my 7x12 trailer with no issue, climbs 20° sand hills without sweating, and you can park it anywhere. It replaced my 2014 Ridgeline (Honda Canada bought it back under recall for cross members rusting out - have me just shy of 10k for it!). That being said I never even considered buying the hybrid with CVT 💩. FWD only and you can't really tow. It is a Ford so I got the extended warranty (negotiated for half price) ❤🇨🇦❤
I bought one of these Ridgelines and it is a great ride. For 100 bucks (check the internet) you can plug in a device to defeat the annoying stop and start. It is only there for emissions reduction to meet the govt requirements. No real gas savings.
I’m in the market for a pickup truck. Had planned on a Toyota but it’s going to have to be a gently used one because I will not buy a 4 cylinder turbo Tacoma or a 6 cylinder turbo Tundra. What a dumb move. Definitely will check out the Frontier and Ridgeline too.
Toyotas are just so popular. Hard to find one at a reasonable price. I’ve owned them in the past and loved them. But, ended up with the Ridgeline. I love it so far.
The timing Chain on the Honda 600 was the size of a bicycle chain. If you used anything higher than 30 weight oil it would stretch the chain because it had a hydraulic chain tensioner.
I have been a Toyota/Nissan owner all my life both trucks are just as good, however I am in the market for a truck but Toyota has let me down bigtime! I will not buy a Sequoia or Tundra with a V6 twin turbo.I will buy a crewcab/V6/longbed Nissan Frontier
2000 Nissan frontier desert runner until 2011 220,000. miles got rid because of ac and interior engine was fine. 2014 same thing 2024 150,00 and going strong.
I just detailed an 08 Nissan p.u. truck at the dealership I work at.380,000 miles.SOLID TRUCK 4×4 WORK WELL IN RECENT 6 INCHES OF SNOW.THE WAY TRUCKS SHOULD BE. UTILITARIAN,DEPENDABLE and AFFORDABLE!THANKS SCOTTIE.😊
I have 2016. Would like to see one company keep one spartan style. The plant would be paid for, parts suppliers making same parts could keep cost down, ultimately a refined quality reliable low cost truck.
@@shj2000 Of the three, only the Frontier is a genuine ladder frame truck. It's built to be knocked around.....like a truck. I don't believe the Ridgeline or Maverick offer anything but a crew cab (?). Some people (like me) prefer a King Cab/Extended Cab vs a 4-door w/a really short bed. I bet the Ridgeline rides very well.
@@NVRAMboi I test drove all three...you are right, Ridgeline had the best ride quality and probably the best overall interior. Handling went to the Maverick, as Scotty said it was solid. And you are correct, the Nissan feels more like a truck ride (if that's what you're looking for) and probably most comparable to a Tacoma. If overlanding is your thing, Nissan or Toyota probably your best bets. If you want comfort and style in a mid size pickup, definitely Honda's your choice. If you want a smaller pickup that gets fantastic MPG (for a pickup) and handles well Maverick is your choice.
I think the Maverick is still available in conventional too as opposed to a hybrid. If I were going to buy one, I'd go with the conventional model over the hybrid.
Something cool about the frontier is you can "titan swap it". The frames are pretty much the same thing as the titans. So you can swap the front suspension for lift and extra travel without messing up geometry.
My company bought a bunch of brand new Frontiers for our fleet, and they immediately began to have all kinds of problems and recalls. They have already switched back to Toyota Tacomas.
I can't believe the people buying these Nissans. Nissan was literally caught cutting corners in more than just their sedan and coupe category and now the ex ceo is fleeing legal charges for fraudulent manufacturing practices and business practices. Yet people are sucking them off like a lot lizard at the local truck stop.
I like the Maverick, it wouldn't work for me, but I think it is a great option for people it would work for. Seems easy enough to work on, good MPG, can own it in a city, but the price is where it's at, 26k for base FWD, 28k for base AWD, but the base model offers most everything you'd need.
I've had 5 generation 2 Frontiers; they are great trucks. Last one I had was a 2019 Pro 4 X, what a great truck - until I cleaned up a deer. Never drove the same after it was fixed.
Ain't no vehicle going to like catapulting deer. Sorry to hear that man. Did that once w/an older Toyota PU. Got rid of it after the repair. Just wasn't right.
For the idle on the Honda. Idlestopper sells a plug-n-play box that just pushes the button electronically for you when you start the truck. Recently installed one in mine and I feel normal again.
@@fromthebackofmymind no, this is a "feature" that shuts the engine off at a stoplight, etc as long as the engine is warmed up, cabin is at temp, etc. It's not an IAC surging, etc.
Love my smaller pickup. Nissan 720 - no control with a rear beam-axle. Needs more head room getting in the door. I'm driving with leaf springs, so it is rough, like Scotty's Courier. The trunk on a sedan is so weak, just make it an equivalent-size bed? Trunks make you load and unload your cargo in the traffic lane, in most parking situations - it is a design from the days of parallel parking, not the city of today. Bicycle - very small truck bed Camping - small truck bed with lid Groceries / Phones, Etc. - 12V onboard refrigerator somewhere - every vehicle needs this, even for just carrying the water that they tell us to when you venture out in hazardous weather, etc. Make it a frost-proof food/cosmetics/medicine/ phone compartment as well, like a heat-pump-AC/heater? Furniture / recycling / trash - small truck bed Plywood and building materials - full-size pickup that can tow anything, but they don't make parking lots like that (width of stall) anymore...? The truck's front doors need to be on a track, or the parking-stalls need to fatten-up. Maybe the trunk was just a cool thing to mount a spoiler to, that's over? Getting the spare tire /wheel full-sized is a good, but, I'm (at 130lbs) barely strong enough to change the largest of truck tires (like on a Jeep, Bronco, or 4Runner).
UNLESS....it's paired w/an automatic transmission. Still tough, still good, but slow as a pig getting up to interstate speeds. And unimpressive mpg (for a 4 cyl). I wish mine had been a manual.

So
Every time Scotty says “Naturally Aspirated”, you know it has his stamp of approval
Why's that? Not even sure what that means or what the pros and cons are, particularly under a tyrannical government scenario.
I always think of a large boosomed good-looking gal myself. "Naturally Asperated"
Right, turbos are for performance cars. Nobody buys a Nissan gtr for reliability
Had a 1987 Nissan Hardbody pick up for 30 years, and 400,000 miles. Never did anything to the engine. Sold it to a gardener in Hemet California and is still probably running down there.
I also had an 87 Hardbody for 27 years. I only had 257,000 miles on it. I sold running great to a friend.
@@mr1bienvenu1 Those Hardbody trucks still had a lot of Datsun ruggedness in them.
I have a 91 jeep Cherokee 327,000 miles and a 94 Nissan hard body 2.4. With 290.000 miles. I’m good no new vehicles ‼️
I wish all that mattered but EVERY companies vehicles can be very different when it comes to reliability from YEAR TO YEAR...I had a friend that had a 2010 Nissan truck that had issues all the time
Loooots of health to you.
@@charley420 PS: The SMOD issues were limited to automatic transmissions - but no denying that was a poor component design.
I know Frontiers are boring but they are reliable and that is important for me.
Having owned a few nissans, the key fob sucks. Often they dont detect by car and the car doesn't auto unlock or lock or start without squeezing the fob.
@Hawkmoon26933: They complained about the last Gen Frontier "It's old, ugly, a dinosaur that hasn't changed in 15 years."
That's what they said. What I heard/saw was, here's a design that's been built for 15 model years. It's reliable, it's tough, and 15 years must mean something's right. I see them everywhere. Not to mention no shortage of parts/service when and if needed." Love mine.
I wouldn't say they are boring.
New Frontier design is good.
That's what aftermarket upgrades are for. I've seen some pretty awesome Titans and some Frontiers that have aftermarket upgrades.
They work fine in Europe for some reason.
Yes I concur to that 💯. If they make another gen of frontier, they need to keep the v6 but still change the design. I just hope for higher trims we get the cooled seats and possibly heated seats at the back
@@mr.monitor.They are diesels and manuals in Europe, huge difference.
@@youtubeistrash-_-So you can't build a reliable gas 4 cyl turbo with an auto?
I was about the say lol
Have a 2017 Frontier Pro-4x with 55k miles -- zero issues, bulletproof.
Bro you never drive it 😂
You can't claim it's bullet proof with 55k miles on it. You drive less than 8k miles a year.
That’s a great truck ! Very much a high quality truck. .
@@beefnacos6258 NONSENSE!
I bought a 24 Frontier to replace my F150. Couldn't be happier with that purchase. F150's were very expensive.
Love my new 24 frontier.. a beauty of a truck!
Give it 3 years.
How do you like it? I keep hearing about it having 4 catalytic converters. Have you had any issues?
I have a 2021 Ridgeline, purchased new. Not one problem.

Can any of these fit 4 kids, with 2 of 'em in car seats?
My first new car was a 79 Datsun 510 with a 5 speed manny. I drove the crap out of it and nothing broke. Sold it to a friend and his daughter took it all thru 4 yrs of college.
We had one too your right. Datson truck
I lived those cars... poor mans 2002 😂
The golden years of Datsun and Toyota. It was a blast.
My first car was a 1972 Datsun B510(4 door) new to me. No power steering, standard steering. I loved it!
Unloaded my Toyota 4Runner 2018, for a 2023 Frontier Pro-X, extremely happy, better gas mileage and it moves
BAM!
Hemi.....bad decision.

Why do you say the ranger is a generation behind?
The new ranger is definitely not behind, but I agree the Frontier pound for pound is the best.
Love my 2019 Frontier. Opted for that when the Rangers came out since they were $35K plus tax I got my Nissan for $28K out the door. 57K miles NO issues.

How did you do that????
@@nyinfamous2k2 Yeah I'd like to know too (I'm contemplating buying one myself).
How much did you pay for it?
I’m thinking about buying one.

How much did it cost?
I have a 2016 Frontier 6 cylinder, great truck. 61,000 miles looks and runs fine.

Nissan Frontier has always been a solid truck
I've been wanting a Toyota truck again, but you have spoke sense into my head. Imma going to look at the Frontiers and Ridgeline
They're all too expensive. But if you shop used and are patient - and do your homework knowing the vehicle history and having it checked out BEFORE you buy - you can still get a solid truck at a fair price. Just not a Toyota.
Excellent video Scotty, cant learn enough great stuff
When Scotty was talking about the Honda he said mavericks were junk,,,but then turns around and says they are better than Toyotas…smh. Can’t make this up,,,cmon man.
I counted 5 times he slammed the Maverick during the Honda portion of the video. 😂

The way he moves his arms is that he's keeping himself in good shape. Love ur videos scotty.
It was about the same thing in 1979: Two best choices were Toyota or Datsun.
2024 Nissan Frontier starting price $30,510. 2024 Honda Ridgeline starting price $39,750. 2024 Ford Maverick starting price $23,815.

TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE NEVER GOT RID OF THE V-8 in The Tundra!!!!!!
Absolutely agree 👍
Or the 4 runner. A turbo and start stop crap is a combination for lasting about a month past the warranty

That being said I never even considered buying the hybrid with CVT 💩. FWD only and you can't really tow. It is a Ford so I got the extended warranty (negotiated for half price)
❤🇨🇦❤
I bought one of these Ridgelines and it is a great ride. For 100 bucks (check the internet) you can plug in a device to defeat the annoying stop and start. It is only there for emissions reduction to meet the govt requirements. No real gas savings.
Scotty doesnt work on these new computer cars..he resets everything 😂
How do you reset them
they should make the stop engine button to sink like the 4way flashers that way you can have it active or not instead of it being annoying.
"Nobody coming!"
Turns and there is indeed, someone coming 😂
I’m in the market for a pickup truck. Had planned on a Toyota but it’s going to have to be a gently used one because I will not buy a 4 cylinder turbo Tacoma or a 6 cylinder turbo Tundra. What a dumb move. Definitely will check out the Frontier and Ridgeline too.
Toyotas are just so popular. Hard to find one at a reasonable price. I’ve owned them in the past and loved them. But, ended up with the Ridgeline. I love it so far.
@@crawdaddctHi! I’m glad you like your Ridgeline and I appreciate you letting me know! So important to have solid info before making a big purchase.
Totally agree !!👍
I love your production style. I like the little pics you put up when you laugh!
Love my 2023 Pro4X.
My 09 v6 Suzuki grand Vitara eats Most new trucks on the beach and dunes, I have a daily I use but
Man I love my zuk
Not better than my v8 2019 Tundra, scotty. Best truck ever made!
COOl story.
2000 Nissan frontier desert runner until 2011 220,000. miles got rid because of ac and interior engine was fine. 2014 same thing 2024 150,00 and going strong.
I find it hilarious that Scotty was bad-mouthing Mavericks on the videos for the other 2 trucks.
And then gives it a pretty good review. Consumer Reports rates the Maverick higher than both the Honda and Nissan. Who knows.
lol he did 😂 but I think he was referring to the pre 24’s.
The Frontiers have always been dependable, long lasting trucks. The SMOD problem was due to faulty radiators
Bought my wife a Nissan sentra she loved it. They had a real 3 speed automatic. It got 200k on it before trading it.
May God bless everyone 🙏
I have 2016. Would like to see one company keep one spartan style. The plant would be paid for, parts suppliers making same parts could keep cost down, ultimately a refined quality reliable low cost truck.
The Ridgeline has a bigger cabin and bigger bed than the Frontier or the Maverick.
Nissan Frontier has a crew cab and 6 foot bed, which is longer than the short Ridgeline 5 foot 4 inch bed.
@@dvader3263 True longer bed in the King Cab resulting from making the cab even smaller.
I've had two Honda 600 cc cars. THey were awesome!
Good for you.
What has this got to do with Nissan?
Well that proves it then. Tacomas really are 10k-20k more expensive than Frontiers. No price break for Mexican labor either.
Ya Nissan has some quality issues I've read
What kind of problems exactly? Most Frontier owners have had no problems.
@@drecksaukerl most Frontier owners aren't driving 200 miles a day, starting and stopping the engine 20 times a day. They just don't hold up.
@@NVRAMboi Thank you mate. It was such a shame with mine, I'd just paid it off and loved it. I'm not sure the new ones are better or worse.
For the idle on the Honda. Idlestopper sells a plug-n-play box that just pushes the button electronically for you when you start the truck. Recently installed one in mine and I feel normal again.
Use throttle body cleaner on idle air control valve.
@@fromthebackofmymind no, this is a "feature" that shuts the engine off at a stoplight, etc as long as the engine is warmed up, cabin is at temp, etc. It's not an IAC surging, etc.
Love my 2011 Frontier. 4.0 V-6. My 3rd Nissan truck. Can't afford a new one.
Nice to see Scotty enjoying himself
Love my smaller pickup. Nissan 720 - no control with a rear beam-axle. Needs more head room getting in the door. I'm driving with leaf springs, so it is rough, like Scotty's Courier.
The trunk on a sedan is so weak, just make it an equivalent-size bed? Trunks make you load and unload your cargo in the traffic lane, in most parking situations - it is a design from the days of parallel parking, not the city of today.
Bicycle - very small truck bed
Camping - small truck bed with lid
Groceries / Phones, Etc.
Furniture / recycling / trash - small truck bed
Plywood and building materials - full-size pickup that can tow anything, but they don't make parking lots like that (width of stall) anymore...? The truck's front doors need to be on a track, or the parking-stalls need to fatten-up.
Maybe the trunk was just a cool thing to mount a spoiler to, that's over?
Getting the spare tire /wheel full-sized is a good, but, I'm (at 130lbs) barely strong enough to change the largest of truck tires (like on a Jeep, Bronco, or 4Runner).
A 4cyl 2.7L Taco is Totally adequate...
UNLESS....it's paired w/an automatic transmission. Still tough, still good, but slow as a pig getting up to interstate speeds. And unimpressive mpg (for a 4 cyl). I wish mine had been a manual.
