as far as the "cops won't bother you" thing, I think it has more to do with the fact that you're in full gear with the visibility vest then the bike itself. I've seen cops pull guns on a supermoto or dual sport rider cus they didn't know it was street legal and thought it was some kid tearing up the street on a dirtbike.
First off they shouldn't be guns drawn tazers maybe especially if you assume it's a kid a child a younglin.
@@joebone3151 murica
Cap
I was on mine and I had a gun drawn on me because I pulled up to a cops window to ask a question. Cops will do anything to ensure their authority over each individual. If they feel intimidated by your bike they’re gonna try to stop you because they feel little 😂
I’m in the U.K. and I’ve got a Yamaha dt 125 and I’ve never been bothered I don’t even ride with L plates and get left alone. Been riding with illegal tires for a good 2 months and been left alone lol
I really like that you are always preaching full gear. If everyone wore full gear always our insurance might be even cheaper.
ATGATT… All The Gear All The Time
you ride ?
that's very true, insurance for sure would be cheaper
Literally nobody wants to wear a whole bunch if PPE to go riding. We ride to feel free, not to feel like we’re trying out for a middle linebacker spot for some NFL team.
@@IvanL.450. vest helmet glove boots?
Most Hells Angels where that around here...
I cant stress enough how great a video is when talking about something and also including the clip with it. More success for you Sir.
Wasn't expecting someone to express my most deeply felt sentiment in regard to this video, so accurately
#6 - light weight!
flickable if needed under emergency handling on road (hope you never need that)
Should be an advantage on surface street rides, could be a slight disadvantage at high speed, but that is not why you go this route

True that on insurance. My husky sumo has full coverage insurance for about $900 a year (that's cheap here). An equivalent powered MT07 would run about $1300. A Supersport is $2700+ lol
geico --- $78 a year
@@jackspradt1562 Yeah, Canada doesn't get those kinds of rates. Bikes cost just as much to insure as cars.
Everything is crazy expensive in Canada.
Lolmy vfr costs 13 euro per month here haha
I’m 21 with a clean record, my rates with Geico were
Drz-400sm: $45 a month
Mt-07: $240 a month

I supermoto'd my old (2001) KLR650 many years ago and it became the perfect commuter/ripping around town bike--its like a simple scooter but has enough power to carry double, go down the freeway, and it handles like a sportbike on curvy roads. It can hit chuckholes, curbs without bending rims--its tough as nails.
i have similar, supermoto xt600e, thing is so fun, could be a little more powerfull but you know how that goes xD
@Idk__ not just the tires, you need to change your rims at least. mine also has different front suspension and brake because they get much heavier use on the road. most people also change their sprocket so they have higher top speed but i didnt
i did it because the bike is mainly driven on the road, road tires a less noisy, more grippy, more economical.. they are designed for the road, plus the front wheel is smaller and wider so a lot more grip on the front.
My one actually has 80/20 tires, so mainly good on road but ok on dirt but because both rims are 17 its considered supermoto converted.
a real supermoto is a converted motocross bike, so mine and the OPs are converted dual sports, pretty similar but not technically the same, most people just call it as such when you have two 17 inch rims instead of 17/18 rear and 21 front
@Idk__ the is no all out sacrifice in performance, its just preference, there is advantages and disadvantages to stock, stock with road tires and full supermoto
BRO IM BUILDING A SUPERMOTO 04 klr650 you gotta hit me up so I can see yours
@charlieward7606 I also have one! Did (quite some) mods and with some Dunlop Trailmax meridian its like a great road bike (even with its 21" front)

Cool video man! Some great points. I like to pick roads that are less populated for wheelies and gooning. Had some close calls with kids and animals running out.
The biggest issue with riding a super Moto off-road is the lack of grip whether it be on acceleration or braking. It’s a lot easier to lose the front end. Also you got to stand up and try to hit those logs perfectly straight with the front wheel otherwise it’s gonna wash out. In my opinion super Moto is the funnest thing you can do on two wheels, or one
Hide a apple AirTag on it.
Get a set of rims with dirt bike tires and you’ll be good
@@TylerSmith-qx6uz no quiet you! I was gonna steal it! No one will ever know!!!
@@moto6ixmoto83 I was thinking the same, grip issues are wheel/ tire issues
@@moto6ixmoto83 wouldn't that just make it a dual sport?
I like the 705s also. A great compromise ride-anywhere tire but it's almost too easy to find their limits, and the rear gets slippery on edge.
Yeah, Yamaha has it licked on valve inspection intervals. If your scoot starts to take longer to start, good indication of needed valve adjustment, it’ll also become quieter, so if you lose your tick, inspect.
Got a 2017 Drz400sm as my first bike recently and I couldn't be more happy. Cost like 18 a month on insurance. Granted I'm 32 years old but I have a blast on this thing. And it never feels like too much bike, just perfect.
I bought. 2020 DRZ dual sport as I like to ride off road trails where I live. I have a motocross dirt bike and a Harley V-Rod. I tend to ride the DRZ most often as it’s such a fun, versatile bike.
I have the older 1998 DR 350se that the DRZ replaced. Been riding it for 2 years now and still love it. I've been thinking about upgrading to the DRZ but I'm not sure if it's much of an upgrade. How do you like the DRZ
✊🔥
Just picked up the drz400sm as well. Freaking awesome bike. Learning to ride and wheelie on it and it couldn't be more fun.
@@deansigman6099 it's amazing in my opinion, does everything I need. Mine came with a jetting kit and a few other mods. But it's just solid.
I didn't realize how many videos you had on literally everything, Good honest videos at that an thorough, respect ya tons mane peace
This is a great video! I am looking into getting a Suzuki DRZ 400SM when I get to Florida. This video makes me more ready than ever lol. I'm a beginner and have never rode a motorcycle. I will find someone to thoroughly teach me of course. I want something with decent fuel economy, cheap, and pretty much everything that you talked about in this video. Perfect SHTF bike too.
Rode a supermoto (drz400sm) for the first time and on the dragon. It was a blast! So much different than the cruisers I’m used to.
Nice! Let me ask, I know the DRZ400sm are very well know but how much power is there? I have a gsxr 750 sport bike but am looking for a replacement of my Honda Grom for the city. Is there enough power to really pull you on the DRZ?
@@colbyclark2479 have a GSXR 750 and drz400sm. While the drz sm doesn't have much power in stock form you can bring the bike to life if you want to spend the money. It is a blast though, never thought I'd have so much fun on it. Compared to your grom it would be a big improvement, goes about 90mph. I get 45-60 mpg. About 33 hp to real wheel vs your 10 on the grom
@@colbyclark2479 I'm late to this comment, but have to say, you don't get the Sumo for speed, you get it for handling. They do have more than enough power to bring the front wheel up accidentally.
ALWAYS good to see a new video from CycleCruza
Yea I missed him lol
Hey CycleCruza! Thanks for the tips, I saw your video that mentioned the Kawasaki KLX300SM and I'm going to pick it up on Tuesday at my local dealer. Your videos played a huge role in my bike decision!
Awesome! You will love supermoto life. Best of luck!
Hope you are enjoying yours as much as I do mine mate!
I'm also looking at a klx300sm
I had a DRZ400S converted to a supermoto with a 434 high compression build for almost 10yrs. Out of all the hooning I did, I only got pulled over once and it was because the Triumph 675R I was riding with got pulled over. Lol Even pulled a stoppie with a cop behind that I didn’t see with no issues. I tried many tires and my favorite were Bridgestone Battleaxe’s. I tried ADV tires, but they are quite a bit heavier and I didn’t care for feel of the heavier tires. I never had an issue with stairs, curbs or off road with the Battleaxes either. They are great for saving gas too. Even ripping on it I’d get around 40-45mpg!!
BATTLEAXES ON THE SUMO'S ARE LIFE
I got a ktm dual sport that I use for desert racing, the most street riding I do is once in a while to work, or to ride across a small town to get to trails on the other side. The only insurance claim I had taken on it was when it was stolen, but I got it back and it was declared totaled, so I took the money and bought the bike back from the insurance for very cheap and cleaned it up a little, and now it's honestly better than before, I had some black plastic on it, now it's all orange, wich makes me happy, and also since it is a bit more beat up I don't care in the least about dropping it, it was a bit like that before from a few years of racing, but now if I crash you can't even tell by looking at it if I had just crashed. I did lowside with knobby tires once, if I were to do more street riding I would get a set of supermoto wheels and tires. And maintenance even though it's a KTM and maintenance is supposed to be expensive and often, it's not, my dad's old ktm the oil was changed like every ten races, the valves might have been checked once, and it still ran just fine when we sold it and it was 16 years old, now we both have basically the same bike with roughly the same amount of hours on it close to 150, and we've each only done a few oil changes, haven't done anything else to them, and they run just as good as when we got them.
Yup That Was Me Today ON My New 2 Day Old XR 150LS . This Thing Is Too Much Fun . I Had More Fun In 1st & 2nd Gear OffRoading Than ON The Highway In 5th Gear . I Never Realized A Low CC 1 Cylinder Bike Could Be So Much Fun .
I only adjust my valves when I have a starting issue. My 17 ktm excf 450 has had 1 adjustment and 1 piston @ 500 hours or 13,000 miles and to be honest it didn't need a new piston could have just replaced the rings. But I wanted to up the compression and have some head work done to maximize the power output. Very easy to do if you have the tools. It's been a great bike to me. Never a real issue with her. I have it set up for balls out supermoto at the moment but most of the hours and miles were done in dirt trim.
I am assuming supermotos are as realible as dirt bikes can be
Remember the first valve check is the most importent one -my neighbor autorized mechanic
My bike needed valve check every 6000km it said in the service manual. Drove it 9500km and the rocker arm failed (since i did not adjust the valves). Bought a new engine and adjusted the valves. Drove it 20 000km untill the rodbearings/piston failed. So i think its wise to say its sort of same with the yamaha yz
I got lucky to find a 2008 YZ450 with a streetable title (at least TN didn’t mind), but graves exhaust, cams, built carb….. fire breather. Fun build
What are those mirrors you have tucked in the hand guards. I like that clean hidden look, I cant do bar end mirrors since i do take the bike in the woods and they wouldnt last long.
I currently ride a Burgman 650, after 30 years off a bike. Before that, I had a Honda CB750K and before that a POS Yamaha 400. I am cold turkeying alcohol and have a need for speed, and this style of bike is appealing.
As a UK rider who had mainly sports bikes, 600cc middleweights and the odd sports tourer I like the idea of a supermoto after too many speeding tickets. Sadly, I am looking at a ban soon.
I figure I might get it into less trouble with the law on something like a KTM 450 than with my Daytona but still have fun if I pick the right roads. And there is some green lane potential (though I take your point about the fronts diameter compared to a full on dirt bike).
I test rode an electric zero earlier this year. This was the closest Ive ridden to a supermoto.
Top end aside (and battery of course) I loved it!
Up to around 80 mph It felt like a 600cc but with the weight of a 125! So light!
These little bikes look like you can be really aggressive with them too. I would never dream of locking up the rear on a normal bike the way I have seen these ridden!
Thanks for the video, I found it really informative.
One bike also isn't like the other. If you get a 650/600/660 KLR/XT/DR you'll have the torque . Bit heavier bike and only 40/50hp max. Get a ktm you'll get around 65HP and lighter bur you'll also need to maintain it way more
I’ll tell you, I do a check of my engine once a year on my YZ450. That’s whipping the Cherohala Skyway and Dragons Tail quite a bit. I’ve yet to find it out of spec. The short lifespan is drilled in for MX abuse. I’ve got 8yrs on it. It’s had one timing chain and tensioner (just for peace of mind), water pump, and a new cams/piston/ring setup when I went to a 490cc kit. 7yrs ago
Excelent advice, esp. the tyre choice bit. Thanks.
I know you guys won’t believe me, but my 2007 DRZ400S (liability only) cost me only $7 dollars a year to insure. That’s about $0.58 cents a month, lol. And as far as cops, I had cops come up to me to ask me how fun the bike looks. And wish they had one to rip around on. I have never experienced that before I had a duel sport. I had a GSXR and got chased and profiled all the time for being up to something all the time. Good video man 🤙🏽
Good content brother fr really good ty for the good info
I remember you had a 2 stroke supermoto didn't know you went the 4 stroke route which is the best imo.
My off-road days are a thing of the past. Off-road and myself haven’t been friends ever. Last time off-road was a Kawasaki “enduro”. Lol. And it ended up with a busted tail light and me on my back.
Where did you get the mirrors that are mounted inside the handguards? Those are slick!
Awesome video man, greeting from a Brazilian traveling on a bicycle. Hope i can afford to buy a little motorcycle in the next years
First comment Love your channel mate long time sub from the land down under!!
Ride safe live easy.
Thank you for this video, could you tell me how u put ur blinkers and the mirrors on this bike? I saw allot of supermoto without them and wonder if i can do it at home or not
I’m in MO and have a ‘19 Crf450x and I’m struggling to figure out how to get it tagged other than going the SD route🤷♂️
I have two more things to add:
1st no one tells you how a Supermoto just falls and pulls you into a curve and even feels safe and funny if it begins to slip, even on Semi-Slicks. My buddy with his Husqvarna Nuda 900R that always said it would be like a sumo was frightened the first time he took my sumo for a spin and aknowledged that there was a huuuuge difference between a twitchy naked and a sumo.
2nd is that even if all the sumo guys tell you how much fun it is, no one that never rode one will believe you and will always laugh at you just because they ride a "real" bike
there is a difference in a naked and a sumo. The sumo sticks like glue in the turns. The lower weight has a huge impact on it. The naked it being heavier it moves around more.
Man nice content. I'm convincing myself to go mini moto with my pitbike cause I can't afford to buy a new bike. But maybe I can afford to upgrade my pitbike with lights and street tires. Over time.
Love your style! Incredible video! Thank you very much! You are helping me to make up my mind on getting my very first bike. I have being riding for 25 years but only overseas and only on rented bikes dual/naked/chopers/supermoto. At age of 50! came to a conclusion that i deserve a pair of "fun wheels" of my own. What are the lighter competators of 701 and 690? Prehaps a bit lighter bikes you can recommend? Thank you in advance.
It wasn't the size of the tire that caused you to fall. It was more likely the technique. You have better control standing up. Being a hidden log, even on a full Enduro you'd fall.
Ive got a wr250R with street tires and im having waaaayyyy too much fun in the city. 100$ insurance all around, 800$ plates and 350$ license. But considering where i live its cheap af. Its soooo fun and its true that the police don't really care about you. They know damn well you wont run away, you be a nice guy and since you are unique they are chill af !! Also thank you for this vid !
Shinko 705 Are sick they're crazy sticky for what they are haha
Hello, im getting a yz250f supermoto and it prolly has same maintanance hours as your 450f so what is the maintanance hours when you street ride these bikes i assume they are not as frequent as if you raced them🤔
drz rider here. had 3 bikes before i got my first drz. just got another one kast year, never switching back to any other bikes. i just love supermotos.
Excellent, informative vid
Will my 125cc ktm crosser have an alternator or not or do I have to get a dirt bike with a headlight already
OH MY GOD YOUR STILL MAKING VIDEOS!!?!?!?!

where did you get tjose mirrors from they are brilliant
Are those the same mirrors in the video that you have the link to in the description? The ones in the description are bar end….are thes the same just modified? I’d like the ones in the video tucked behind your deflectors.
Great video… great content. Keep it up
Hey man,
Thanks for the vid!
Are those mirrors integrated into the bark busters?
Where’d you get them from?
Any advice or tips on me making my 2019 yz250f supermoto? Any gearing recommendations?
what about cros supermoto tires on one bike? Can you just tok the supermoto wheels off, and turn the cross on? Or is it not so easy, like I thoght?
Hey where'd you get those mirrors? love those.
what app do you use for your gps? i like that setup for sure.
Thanks for the video man.
Sumo is life. I'm older, have had every kind of bike, nothing satisfies like the Sumo.
Whats the maintenance like? Is it like as it would be a designated street motorcycle or us it dirtbike maintenance?
I bought my KLX300SM and was initially worried about costs...everyone said motorcycles are more expensive than cars. Insurance is $300/yr and maintenance/repairs is dirt cheap especially since some of it can be done on your own. I've dropped it a few times and it hardly took any damage. That alone makes it a great bike and perfect for beginners.
I have a DRZ400 Supermoto and I love it but I always wanted to Street legalize a two-stroke and make it a Supermoto something like an RM 250 or a friend of mine has a YZ 490 he's thinking about letting go suicide machine but it would be fun as a Supermoto awesome video brother
Hey CycleCruza! I'm curious what you've done for security on your bike? I wouldn't be comfortable going anywhere and leaving that in the parking lot. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us and making these awesome video's. I really enjoy your channel.
Scorpio alarms
Monimoto and a alarm disc lock. Had my 2022 ktm stolen within 3 weeks of buying it lucky I got it back in 8 hours with a drilled ignition 89 bucks. I didn't have any of the stuff I just mentioned.
@@richardsimmons6526 glad you got you’re bike back. Mine would probably end up burned out on a traveller site within 24 hours
what about the gearing, because my Honda crf250f has quite short gears
I know a gearing kit could help with that but I would prefer something simple and that I know how to do haha
Made my 97 XR400R street legal, Im from OHIO too. Easy and now I can ride from trail to road or what ever I want
Where did you get those hand guard mirrors?
I'd love to know what insurance you use cause mine is 340 for a year with full coverage.
I just bought a 19 kx450 and plan on building it into a supermoto. Are there any light /street legal kits you'd recommend?
Do u ir anyone remember how much his yamaha yz450 fx build total cost
Do you recommend a super moto for my first road bike? I ride dirt bikes and have been for about 4 years. I have a trail bike honda 450rl that is street legal
I'm looking at getting a 450 supermoto. Do you have to rebuild the engine every 100 hours?
To add street tires, do you need to get new rims as well right ?
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like J-Roc from Trailer Park Boys? Lol. Great content.
Just got a 701 husky, few months later it’s soooooo fun. Couldn’t imagine a sports bike now.
Sports bikes are actually anti-fun. Hate how they ride. Unless you're pushing them to the limit on a track, you should probably go out on a different class of bike.
My mate had a CCM 604 back in 2003 and he could easily keep up on twisted roads in the U.K.
wheelies for dayz! :P yah just got my drz400sm and stoked to get back into riding.
I would like to get a super Moto one day. Looks like a really fun bike to ride.
I've had 5 different street bikes all bought brand new and my 2022 ktm is by far the most fun bike I've had. After a while you've driven every where. A dual sport you can drive down the same road and just jump the ditch.
I’m looking to get a supermoto next year and start riding!
Great video and advice. Subscription added.
@cycleCruza where did you get does mirrors?
What mirrors you have , and are they actually functional ?
I love supermoto! Ride safe bro
Where did you get those mirrors? Your link to mirrors doesn't seem to be the same ones.
I like the idea of having a tall seat hight and an upright riding position, so this seems pretty ideal
hope you are well i am in the uk i just got a supermoto
Built my own sumo and subscribe lol i love the content :)
You can definitely go offroad with these on gravel tracks and if you slow down on curves
I always go at 6th gear full throttle and no problems
I agree that I don't bother with claims on my bikes. I just fix them myself.
Hey could you explain how you are holding the clutch in while doing wheelies? :O that cant be good? thanks
I was looking for this comment, it looks like he pulls the clutch in and then never lets it out..so weird I don’t understand
Heres my Five. 1 A lot of wrenching 2 It hurts to crash, 3 broken parts are expensive, 4 Upgrades are more expensive, 5 If you dont crash repeatedly you arent having enough fun. My personal rule added as #6, stock up on side panels, shrouds, and grips..
Like your channel , quick question would you get a dual sport and turn it into a supermoto ,or get a dirt bike and turn into a supermoto?? Thx..
Dual sport has 6 gears for the highway better top speed. Dirtbikes have more power. If you just want to wheelie in town dirtbike. I have a crf250l dual sport 2017
Are the Shinkos better than the TKC80s?
Once I’m done with my current project, I’ll be looking for a TT-R 125 to convert to a supermoto for track days at the small go-cart tracks. I wouldn’t use it on the street due to the low top speed. Just looking for something small, durable and cheap to repair and fits the ethos of a very small track.
Cool! Best of luck to you!
There very slow . Even a 450 can't wheelie in 2nd without clutch
@@shitluck2jzgte I dont know what 450cc dirt bike you have ridden but my will power wheelie in 4th gear
@@colbyclark2479 probably the shite enduro/street spec ones. But a 450r from any mfg will for sure wheelie in any gear
thats a bit small for a supermoto IMO
11:33 i live right around the corner from there lol, i knew i recognized that area, i live on abbey i ride in the back woods
Good video. I know a 450 sized bike is not going to be comfortable on the interstate but how does it do on two lane highways? Can you cruise 60 miles an hour without ringing its neck? How do you think the ADV tires do on dirt and gravel fire roads? I’ve been told the 17 inch front will skate and plow.
Yeah, not ideal for sustained freeway, but if you get a 450 with a wide ratio transmission, it will do 60 at a more reasonable rpm. With Japanese bikes, that limits you to the FX like this one (or the WR), or the Honda 450X or RL (2019 or newer if you want the 6 speed). Also plenty of Euro bikes, and the 500/501 makes a great supermoto.
I have two Husaberg sumo’s a 450 and a 650. Both do OK on the interstate, they are both six speeds as well. The 650 definitely does a bit better but our interstate speed limits are 55-65.
