Bratko, Can you recommend top Scramblers? Something I'm very interested in, but I love my little 1980s style CB400SF.
Something with retro cool and very versatile, for street/cafe culture, and very usable for offroad and hooligan stuff?
You know something looks cool in kevlar jeans and flannel and leathers... Its part of the fun, looking cool too ;)
Motorcycles/Cars, are emotions of Art too.
I never even considered a supermoto until cyclecruza built his and I saw how much fun it is. Now I'm waiting a dual sport with a set of sumo wheels I can switch between.
i got my 2015 XR650L supermoto, super beasty.. and a 2019 klx 110L mini supermoto...LIVING THE GOOD LIVE @ 51..
This is the content that i was searching all over the web, thanks a lot! Safe riding!
CycleCruza you just made the case man, supermoto versus EVERY single other type of bike!
So happy I found this channel this dudes awesome 🤙
This is nice. I have this 250cc Taiwanese Supermoto bike which I replaced its original road tires to dual sport tires. I made it to look like a Motard Adventure Bike🤘🏻
I loved this video. I have a wr250r and i totally agree with this, i love versatility and having something that can do it all.
Dualsport life!
Cool video. You really don't need a bigger engine than that. I'm thinking about downsizing from my Rebel 1100cc DCT to a smaller Honda CB500 CX. I feel it would be more than enough.
I used to have a CB 300R and it was a lot if fun. I still miss it.
*NEW VIDEO:* The UGLY Truth About Dual Sport Motorcycles:
ruclips.net/video/XI8PLEAS_gs/видео.html
Red State, props man. Respect. A lot of points made here I dont warrant my KTM 530 to have knobbys. Decision is made. 10-20% trail does not justify the 89-90% paved roads
*NEW VIDEO:* NEW SUPERMOTO BUILD
ruclips.net/video/t-JllQZBCi8/видео.html
I'm gonna buy these tyres for my wr250r but keep the big wheels, i think that will be best
My plan is to get a dual sport and a set of warp 9 wheels, keep the sumo set up 90% of the time and swap over when I want to have a nice dirt day
Yup
Dual sports up here in Maine, lotta shitty roads need good suspension
I think it depends where you live. Here in the PNW dual sports are king. In my backyard is the amazing BDR. The dual sport allows us to briefly ride on the concrete jungle so we can get back into the amazing mountains. But for pavement pushers this will do in a pinch.
I built my 2013 WR250R as a supermoto and kept my stock wheels and tires. If I wanna go ride off-road I just swap the wheels out.
I like riding a dual sport because I enjoy off-road riding too. I had a CRF 250 Rally but just totaled it in June. I hit a deer doing 60. I tore my rotator cuff and got road rash but can’t wait to get back on a bike! I was thinking of getting a CRF300L because the maintenance is so easy! 8000 mile oil changes. The 450L is like every 600 hours To much work for me.
Good to see you made it ok and you're going to get back on the saddle. So many people get scared and never ride again. Cool to see you are getting a crf300l, have fun! Definitely get an airbag vest if you haven't already!
@@CycleCruza Thank you! I will think about the airbag vest! I subscribed too
Honda says 8,000 mile 🛢️ changes but you would be crazy to wait that long! I just picked up a 2019 cb500x with only 500 miles and they did the oil change before I bought it I changed it again 350 miles later with full synthetic Honda oil and 1,200 miles later it needed another oil change I thought I was tripping but I even asked the dealer what they thought and they said yes I would advise changing it it looks dirty and that's no dirt riding just on the street & riding it hard yes but not excessively hard... So if anyone waits 8,000 mi you're stupid & 4,000 miles I would say is not very smart, maybe my motor was still breaking in but the manual says 300 miles we will see how dirty it gets on this next oil change... But I'm thinking about 2,500 mi oil changes... And they were out of Honda oil 10w 30 so I went with Kawasaki full synthetic 10w 40 because I live in Phoenix and it's about to be 150° so I figured a little bit thicker would be good
Bro, this...I have a WR250R and CycleCruza alllllllmost had me convinced that this setup was the way to go (he makes a pretty good case for it, and his excitement is infectious!)...until your comment. Totally forgot that one reason I ended up with the WR after looking at almost every DS/SM that was available at the time was the ease of maintenance. My previous bike was a 750cc sport bike, so I shopped the CRF450L when I was buying but the maintenance intervals REALLY put me off. Not only oil changes, but valve adjustments. Yeah you can convert these off-road dirt bikes by adding all of the bits that are required to make them street legal, but that doesn't change the service intervals. So no, my WR in stock form won't do 100+ on the highway and won't pop torque wheelies...but what it will do is rip forever with nary a grumble as long as I make sure the engine has (some) oil in it. :)
@@honda116969Honda says oil changes every 2000mi and filter every 4000m on the XRL i
for me the most benefit, especially on a tall bike like a 690 or 701 is that the 17 inch front wheel makes the bike quite a bit shorter for not so tall riders. so with knobbly tyres you can get off road, but still have foot-down control - currently have a dr650 and wanting to move to a 690 but its just too tall - think this could be a solution
Depends where you live! I just got a 2013 CRF 450R that I am going to make into more of a dualsport-oriented bike since I'm riding in rural Maine; it will see 90 percent dirt. If I lived in a city or something I would most definitely be sumo-ing it out!
Where at I ride in southern Maine mostly in scarbororugg, old orchard Beach, saco, Buxton. I ride a z125 stunted, buddy has a drz supermoto 400 with a big bore, bigger carb, and airbox mod. Thing is nuts
Cy-cle-Cru-za! The Man of Many Bikes! I was blown away by how that WR250 would pop up... then realized it was the YZF450, lol! That thing is beast!
Oil change every 8 hours?!!!!
Every time I what to smile I just watch your videos.
just got back from deals gap , sumo guys were killin it ! !
Switching from a gsxr to a ktm 690 smcr was the best choice I've ever made. Supermoto is life now
Agreed. Its crazy to say that its safer, but I went from an R1 to a KTM500 sumo and it feels WAY safer, because the speeds I am "having fun" at are about 70mph less than the R1. Also have the benefit of a bike that is 230lbs with great suspension, so I have no fear of ditching the pavement if I need to avoid stuff. You can literally go anywhere you want.
Cycle Cruz’s don’t forget to do a valve adjustment it’s better for the engine
I have an 04 cr250r but wont take it on the road obviously. i bought a 2007 husky sm510r recently and boy do i love it its so much fun
I really want a SM as a second bike. I do too much highway riding for it to be my primary bike. I have a Harley cruiser for that. But as a second bike to trash around on and just be a hooligan, a little 450 would be awesome.
SM lifestyle and I trust in CycleCruza 👊✌
Very informative!! Thank you cycle cruza
Time for you to bust with the 2022 model CycleCruza! Then do what you do and turn it into the baddest SuperMoto on the streets!
The 2022 model hasn't changed much and from what I hear my 2019 is a bit more violent which I like.
@@CycleCruza If you wanna try my 2022 you'll see its quite violent, moreso on chains an tires!
You’re a trip! So much fun to watch and great advice!
the whole point of supermoto is that you have maximum traction on the street where you spend most of your time but have the ability to go off road if and when you have to. They are hard to corner in the wild for sure.
If you live in the Midwest and you can go ride miles of singletrack right off your back porch or a few miles down the road, I would prefer dual sport. But in a state like Maryland where there is no public lands to ride, Sumo is way better because you can just jump on your bike and go ride for an hour or 2 and not have to replace 3 sets of knobbies per year. I have ridden every kind of motorcycle and ATV there is and sumo is the most fun I have ever had on 2 wheels.
Well said appreciate life and just ride 🙌🏾
You got all the bikes BABY!!
Alot of sm are dual sport just with different tires and a few parts. But changing tires is main difference
Another good video bro. I’ve started looking more for a first bike. Im pretty convinced im gonna get a super moto as well.
Thanks bro! Cool to see you are going to get a supermoto!
I'm pretty locked in on a DRZ400s as a second bike but part of me wants the sumo. I plan to offroad a lot, I have trails in my backyard but they're mostly sand.
My man, Thank you very much for your videos. I'm a big fan! Great job! Respect!
What about running the big wheels but with these tyres on?
I have owned every type of motorcycle exempt an adventure bike. And I have to say that supermoto is the most fun I have ever had on a bike.
If you're out in the country I believe the dual sports are better that 21 front tire makes washed out roads and trails easier but in cities and towns super moto would be the way to go!
Benjie, that's my question. The roads around me are rutted out gravel, and although there's no logs to jump over, I think the 21 inch wheels are going to handle the bumps better.
Small 17 front tire is a big limitation offroad. I ride my supermoto offroad all the time.
*NEW VIDEO:* Why Dual Sport Motorcycles Are TERRIBLE:
ruclips.net/video/MNymErR1KHY/видео.html
1:12 - Busting 102mph up in here! Wooo!
DS should adopt 19 inch wheels, like ADV bikes, and get tires that are 70/30 street/dirt treads. If you ride more dirt, get dirt like tires
I’ve been looking at the Husqvarna FE 501 and 701 models, but I’m a bit confused by what the salespeople told me. They said that the Dual Sport and Super Moto versions are essentially the same bike model, but with different setups-like tires and exhaust systems-but is that really the only difference?
Also, I’m trying to figure out which of these bikes would suit me better. The FE 501 is lighter and more agile, but I was told it requires an oil change every 10 hours of riding. On the other hand, the 701 has a longer frame, a heavier engine, and much longer intervals between oil changes-about every 1000 miles. I’ve heard that the FE 501 is more suited to off-road and trail riding, while the 701 is better for longer trips on the road.
My goal is to have fun exploring the countryside and smaller roads, but not necessarily spend a lot of time on highways. I’ve heard that with the FE 501, I’d have to carry oil with me for long trips since it requires such frequent changes. I’m wondering if that’s a hassle or if it’s just part of the charm of learning to care for the bike.
Since this will be my first bike, I’m not sure which way to go. I love the idea of adventure off the beaten path, but I also want something practical for getting from city to city. Has anyone ridden the FE 501 or 701 and can share some insights? Which bike do you think is better for what I want to do? Thanks!
if its your first bike id recomend a klx300 itll be more reliable than the husky and cheaper plus its just a better first bike since its a bit more tame
You had me at Red State. Be safe man.
I like having my dualsport and a street oriented bike separate. Purpose built.
Bro you convinced me I just bought an old Suzuki DRZ supermoto as a second bike next to my Tracer 900GT and now I don't want to ride my Tracer anymore😂
I'm getting a dual sport for getting to and riding the crappy ass trails in my area. But I also have a Gixxer 750 and a Njnja 650 for street.
Beautiful man, although for that bread I’d get a dualsport n a street bike or sumn
12:18 - This is why you'll never be happy with your next bike unless it's a YZ450FX CycleCruza Strait up Bro! Now go bust with one already!
I'll enjoy the next bike but it will always be #2. lol
14:06 is that the Harley dealer that said you looked like martian or astronaut or something when you walked in in full gear ?
I started out thinking about an enduro and it's gone every which way now that I started doing research.
thinking about getting a klx 300 sm and eventually putting some dual sport tires on it. I looked at getting a dirt bike and converting / plating it, but super moto rims ain't cheap, so if you can get a bike thats already set up for street / SM, it could be cheaper just to swap the tire treads.
Honestly, I don't think one is better than the other, and it all depends on what kind of riding you want to do with it. Mostly street? Supermoto. Offroad often? Get dual sport. Though, I'm sick and tired of dual sport riders criticizing supermotos 'having street tires on dirt bikes' when most of them don't know what they're talking about.
Just ride… don’t matter what it is
Great enthusiasm ! Ride on.
Dunno 🤷🏼♂️
I’ve never had either one
Always ridden sport bikes 🏍
CycleCruza you should try out the 890 Duke R, seems like the perfect bike for you with the amazing torque and the light weight body
Everybody seems to love the 890 Duke R. They never have it in stock at the stores around here tho.
@@CycleCruza That's because they are that good!
Same here, most bikes are sold before they even get to the dealership.
I've own a FZ07 (MT07), which is the closest thing I've owned to a super moto. I currently have a DR650 in the stable. Where I live there are hundreds of miles of dirt roads. I have found the dirt much more fun than the streets... I have to get a true super moto to see for myself which is better.
sumo off road is a challenge.. grass, no stop. loose rock, better ride the rear fender, the front will wash out.. dirt bike riding next level
Dr650 is the closest thing “you’ve owned” too a supermoto 😂
It all depends on your focus, that SM would almost never leave my garage. A dual sport will get ridden every week. Look up tubliss, not d.o.t. approved but........
Great video. Whenever someone does a SM vs DS video, they always compare track like pristine flat highway to backwoods single track with nothing but trees across the trail. For most of us, we got a DS because our roads are somewhere in the middle of that... gravel and rutted out, but not a pro enduro trail. I would like to know how the 17's compare to the 21's on the average unimproved road that's full of potholes. I wonder if the 17's are actually better on that?
no, just like in the woods, you can stuff a front 17" tire, wher the 21" will roll through it. now, i just wheelie over holes, and logs.
@@timritchie4319 OK, so then I have the same question Benjie has below: Are 21 ADV tires the answer?
One of the questions I was hoping you would address in this video - what is the advantage of 17" wheels? From what I can see, 17" wheels with street rubber is the biggest difference between dual sport and super moto. So what's special about the 17" wheels? Thanks
Smaller wheels, especially the front(some race supermotos even have 16" or 16.5" front), makes motards turn sharper, and most sport bikes use 17" wheels with sticky tires so with that, supermotos can also use those sticky tires. Another thing has something to do with the centrifugal forces going on with 17" wheels, plus dirt bike chassis that makes supermotos turn at a faster speed. Dirt bike chassis are also designed for superior handling.
TURN IN,,, i out corner R6's in the corners with my 37hp xr650. youll never get that deep dive into a vorner with a 21"
@@E2Moto why not 18" wheels since that's the back tire size on most dual sport or dirt bikes, just wondering?
@@grandmaster1876 Dual sports use 19" rear wheels and 21" front, and like I explained in my previous post, smaller wheels mean sharper turns but they chose 17" because that's the size of most street bikes that use sticky tires. A 17" wheeled supermoto can still out turn a dual sport with 19" and 21" wheels with street tires on them.
@@E2Moto @grandmaster 1
I thought all dual sports came with an 18" rear rim and 21" front rim? I know my Suzuki DRZ400S is 18x21.
Hell, CycleCruza was not kidding about supermoto insurance. Not even $100 for the whole year for basic coverage. Like $8 a month or so. I can actually afford that shit. 👍👍
Got a xr150l to learn on. 300l rally on the way. Plan on going to super moto. Especially being in ne ohio .
Your #1 reason a supermoto is better is because you made your supermoto wheels tubeless? You can do that to 18" and 21" wheels too. Then you say a dualsport is better if you do 90% offroad...I feel like a dualsport is more ideal for people who spend more than 30%+ of the time offroad. If you're riding a supermoto offroad more than 30% of the time, you should probably have a dualsport. A dualsport can do everything a sumo can, just not grip in corners as well. But a sumo can't ride half the places a dualsport can. With all that being said...I have a 690 supermoto and a 500 dualsport...best of both worlds. haha
luv the shouting part!
Cc: watch out for bad drivers..
Log: am i joke to you?!
5:56 i felt that.
lol That log was hidden and I wasn't expecting it. It got me pretty good. lol Had I been on the dual sport with the 21" front wheel it would have went over no problem. You have to be really careful messing around on a supermoto off-road. 17" wheels are not good at going over large logs.
I want a offroad tire that can take curves and big curbs at the same time. Or is it a better Idea to ride with bigger ADV tire on a big wheel?
Building a street legal yz250 that I race hare scrambles with. I know it's not gonna be a good street bike, but I want to be able to ride to local riding areas and be able to explore. I might get some sumo wheels eventually, but my favorite thing is riding off road doing enduro type stuff
waste of money imo
Have you tried street tires on the dual sport? (e705 90/90)
Have you tried 19 inch wheels to split the difference in wheel size between sumo & dual sport?
There’s a few bikes that do this, 19” used to be the most popular front street tire. Triumph 400X and Honda CB500X, but not exactly Supermoto style. I think a 19” might be better in sand than the narrower 21”.
How about two sets of wheels/tires to switch between, one bike, best of both worlds?
I love my dual sport.
Good information, thanks
What bike is the supermoto? Which tires are you using?
What's your thoughts on honda 230m?
Hey Cycle Cruza loved the video! I have a question about the dual sport tired, can't you make the dual sport tired tubeless too just like the super moto ones? Keep it up man!
Tires*
Thanks! You can make the ds tires tubeless but then it would not be good for the street, the tubeless options for dual sport wheels are only meant for off-road use only. Such as Tubliss is one system but only for off-road use.
What type of bike was the black on in the photo
What Can I Wear On My Head So Sweat Does Not Soak Into My Helmet Padding
Can you ride the upstairs with the smc 690 r and do jumps ?
My issue with the supermoto is that anything a supermoto can do, something else can do better for cheaper. ALWAYS, 100% of the time. You ain't gonna hit a 14 meter jump on it, you ain't gonna go 180 on it, you ain't gonna ride across the country in it, you ain't gonna beat nothing actually meant for the dirt. I'd rather just get an enduro or adv.
What's your take on adventure bikes
Are those Shinko 705’s? How are they on the road?

How many hours does your yz450 have ATM,?
If you're going to be doing any substantial miles, the YZ 450 is useless. I've gone over 40,000 miles on three different WR's with minimal maintenance. That's the reason a dual sport is better. If you only do about 2,000 miles a year like Cycle Cruiza, then the Supermoto YZ is a good choice. But be prepared for a fair bit of preventive maintenance. The other big factor is cost. This YZ Supermoto cost more than double the cost of a WR by the time it's all said and done. Also for any serious off-roading, the WR will eat the YZ Supermoto alive especially once it gets a little muddy or sandy or rough. And by the way the KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701 cost almost 15 grand out the door by the time you pay fees and taxes. That's roughly three times the amount of a slightly used wr250r. And they still require more maintenance than the wr. Regarding fixing flats and rubber, I run a Kenda k270. 50/50 tire. I get over 5000 to 6,000 miles out of a set and they still work very well in most off-road conditions. And because they are dirt bike size tires it's very easy to fix a flat with a new tube or patch compared to Supermoto wheels. By the way if you puncture a tubeless tire with a large hole you're going to have to put a tube in it anyway.
As stated in the video, if you want to tour riding a lot of miles a 690 SMC R or Husqvarna 701 supermoto, they have a street bike engine with much lower maintenance intervals. I would only get a true dual sport if I rode off-road most of the time and just need to ride street to get to the trails. If you ride street the most, dual sport knobbies wear out fast and tubes suck if you get a puncture.
690 (701) are far better if you are gonna dual sport them 60+% on the street...compared to the little wr250f...just have more power for the highway, the faster back roads etc...
@@n.nikolov That's why comparing the two types of bikes doesn't make much sense. Two completely different animals. I have a T 700 but there are times I much prefer the WR. Not to mention you're comparing a $13,000 or $15,000 motorcycle with a $5,000 motorcycle with two or three times the horsepower. And if you're planning on logging lots of miles then the Yamaha YZ 450 FX is not the bike to do that on for long stretches. Maybe around your city or county but not state to state. But going state to state on a wr250r is very doable with a few fairly inexpensive mods. But again if you're going to compare bikes it might as well be Apples to Apples.
@@steveh1510 yes...it all depends of the usage...
@@n.nikolov Exactly! Two very different bikes.
What size Shinko 705s did you put on your YZ450FX?
The timing of your video is perfect because I'm debating turning my Suzuki DRZ400S Dual Sport into a Supermoto. Cycle Cruza, instead of spending the money on all new rims and front brakes, why not just put sticky rubber street tires on the dual sport rims? So I decided to put Pirelli Night Dragon street tires on my OEM (21", 18") Dual Sport rims. I would appreciate your opinion of my decision - thanks 🤙
street performance, with 21 inch front wheel your turn in speed is super slow compared to 16-17 , side walls of the tires on supermoto wheels are actually usable so you can lean the bike and even get your knee down with a supermoto, supermoto builds typically have racing suspension as well which is way stiffer than an eduro setup
@@BodieMoto Thanks for the info. I'm hoping that slightly fatter street tires will still provide a better street riding experience than my OEM Dual Sport tires. I realize it won't be a Supermoto, but I don't want to spend the money on new rims and front brake. It should still be fun 🤙
@@Edward-rg8mh they absolutely should, I street a weak dual sport with 21/18 wheels and shinko 705s and it was a huuuuuge improvement on pavement vs my stock knobbies, your Pirellis will feel amazing just don't forget to break in the tires before you go learning and throttling lol
@@BodieMoto Great advice - much appreciated 🤙
I almost did this too but then I just bought a second bike for longer street rides lol. Kept my drz400s with knobbies for gravel and dirt road fun.
id stick to a dual sport period... those oil change intervals are ridiculous...
You got everything as long as you are just tooling around the neighborhood. Take a 500 mile ride in a day and that 450 is not what you want to be on.
Hey CC, what street tires are you running on the YZ?
I had the dealership tell me that neither one requires that many oil changes if you mostly stay on the main road vs off road.....is that true?
No, follow the owners manual maintenance schedule...not what someone says who didn't build the bike. The manufacturer knows what's best.
Can you figure out is the Husq 701 enduro is still available in America? I heard they only sell the super moto now
They used to sell here in America, maybe that changed though. idk
So tires ... and maybe gearing ..?
What part of Ohio you in bro?? I’m between Dayton and Cincinnati
