A ground sheet is a must, even if it is just a 3 dollar Bunnings tarp, it's somewhere to put your boots or just wipe your feet, keeps most the dirt/sand outside and protects the bottom of the swag from moisture and damage.
Really enjoying your un-loquacious reviews Alex! Here's hoping the channel continues to work for you. It's good advice you offer. My tip - I'd add a stretcher to any swag set up. I'm finding that getting up off the ground is an age related challenge, especially with a couple of get-ups in a night's sleep.
Fantastic tips as usual, Peg one is especially handy. A couple of the silica bags like you get in shoes n some foods for absorbing moisture are handy to put in your swag or tent when packing it up
Some good tips there mate and many can be transferred to tents, annexes or even vehicle awnings especially with the Pegs. Personally I keep a small tool box with different pegs and ropes and often take that just in case. I also roll my poles up inside my tents like you show as well, same reasons, so they don't get damaged, you don't forget them etc.
Mate. Great video. Couldn't be happier to see you back on the tube. I hope that the temptation to make a trip video is strong. The Intents adventures were all time and I'd kill to ever tag along with one, the vibes always seemed immaculate. Cheers.
I do have a few ideas kicking around for trip videos actually, but it won't be until the channel is a bit bigger. You'd be surprised just how little interest a trip video gets and they're a huge amount of work, so I'd rather wait until there's a bit of an audience to enjoy it 🙂
@@Camping_reviews I can't forget the Jalapeno Poppas down by the river Ep. A very nice piece. I know that you got worn down by VLOGs, so did Seeking Adventure; but just lovely to see you stepping back in front of a camera, so easily imparting your knowledge form experience. Now, can one change GU bearings while in a swag?
Ive always put one of those foil 1st aid blankets between my mattress and swag floor. seems to help keep the cold from coming through the floor and keeping you warm on a cold night.
@ursodermatt8809 not so much a belief thing but actual science. After all there's a reason why you see people wrapped in those foil blankets🥶🥶🥶 I'm just using the same principal in a different application 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Good tips Alex. I like to leave the windows at each end half-open regardless of how cold it might be. Minimises condensation overnight. A cheap 12V electric blanket with a timer is great on those chilly winter nights.
I've always wanted to give the electric blanket a go 😁 the windows half open is a good trick for packup too as you've probably discovered, let's the air escape easier when you roll it
Kings big daddy Swag. Soaped in bathe for 2 days then setup for a week in the back yard. Still had leaks so did the same process, still leaks but seriously reduced. So used a canvas reconditioning item from anaconda (Spray bottle type). That did the trick. Also lay out mattress for at least 1 week before camping. My mattress only ended up at a max of 50mm in the centre of it so I purchased a 23zero mattress, cut it to size and fitted it. I now use the original mattress as a topper on top of the 23zero mattress. Best nights sleep ever on this. But it is huge 500mmx500mm. I also use a darche double sleeping bag, flannel inside and canvas outside. I think rated to -10. All a great combo with my own bed pillow. 15 night sin now over a couple of trips and love it. Just do not like crawling into it. So am thinking about a stretcher.
@darrensmith4661 I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed with the kings single I used in this video especially for leaks I've also left it set up in the yard for a week, and soaked it 3 times and it still leaks BAD. The mattress like you say is a "sore" point as well but I do often use my swag on a stretcher and when I'm doing that it's fine
@@Camping_reviews Agreed, I spent at least 3 weeks making it water proof then the price of the swag and more to make it comfortable (and now it is huge). But then again I am a side sleeper and have a bad back. I wouldn't recommend the swag to anyone. Better to spend their funds on a quality swag. In saying this, I have now had 10 nights of comfortable Sleep. My Daughter and her partner also love my setup. Best nights sleep ever while camping was the feed back I got from them. Would be great to get the swag back from them. Think I have lost it forever....lmao
@@darrensmith4661Had several synthetic swags and they are not very good. Ive ended up using an oztrail bunker stretcher/tent combo with a self inflating mattress with kimberly sleeping bag, good down to -15. The bunker is insect proof and has a fly to clip on if there is a chance of rain or its windy. Slept in this setup all over WA including a few nights north of Southern Cross where it got so cold the shower bag froze solid on the bonnet of the car. Got to look after yourself when getting older.
Great tips. Soaked my swag overnight in the bath then left it outside for a few days to dry. I use a couple of those flat round cotton makeup pads, put a bit of eucalyptus oil on them, put them into those little pockets in the end then roll up my swag. The eucalyptus oil makes the swag smell nice and it also helps to inhibit mould growth. The pads just stay there and I just add more eucalyptus oil each time I pack up. I leave the end windows open too but also leave the side flaps open a little at the bottom either side to help let the air escape when rolling up.
Oh absolutely! I'd drop everything and do ONLY those if i could! They do take an enormous amount of time though and are a labour of love. And time is something I'm a bit short on right now. But when I do get more done, they'll be up on the other channel 🙂
Best thing I’ve learned is buy a bag that’s suits the next swag size up. I have an 1100mm swag and pack it in a bag to suit a 1400mm swag. No issues fitting bedding, pillow, poles, anything. Packs like a dream! Bonus is, my daughter now has her 800mm swag in my old 1100mm bag. Same result!
Same with me, saw the video Tim Bates made on it a while ago. I had a shitty anaconda swag and just about every part on it has failed within 3 years, but I’ve never had rain come in through the canvas.
Good question, I think brand definitely can play a part in it. The kings swag I used in this video is bad for it, I seasoned it 3 times and it still leaks badly.
There are few things worse that not getting a good sleep when camping. I highly recommend sleeping at least one night at home in/on the thing you will be using at camp. I made the HORRIBLE mistake of not doing this with a tent cot and it totally ruined the first two nights of a trip. In fact it was so awful to sleep on that I slept on the ground on the third night - and yes it was better on the ground. I sold the horrible thing the day after we got home.
From a bloke who taught me how to do GU bearings, to now giving me Swag tips. Welcome back Alex!!

Thanks - RUclips recommended this video. "Coincidentally" I just have a new swag. The tips are very appreciated ! Cheers !
Amazing timing!

if you are talking about actual science
you should investigate how that foil blanket actually works.

A dash of finely ground chillies is a must when seasoning your swag, but make sure it doesnt get inside, or you are in for a really bad night..

Great to see you back on the screen Alex! Trusting the mattress is definitely the best tip! Especially if you’re hefty in size😂
Great tips Alex. Totally enjoy your work, glad you are back.
This is great, can't wait for more advice reviews
Thanks! I've got plenty more cool ideas in the pipeline

I was give an arb swag and i love it. I didn't need any swag tips but i did watch from start to finish cuz I'm so glad you're back
Welcome back! To be honest, I wanted to see more like the train car type episodes. Will you be doing anymore like that?

Good advice for any new swag camper, all practical stuff.
Thanks Alex, very informative.
Loving the reviews buddy, very informative, great having you on utube again
Thanks mate! It's a lot of fun to be back but I forgot just how much work it is 😅 I'm better prepared for it this time
My tip would be, get a tent not a swag :) I always like to have more room.
Great tips!

Hi Mate, how would I get in contact with yourself?
G'day Aaron! A familiar name, I've watched a lot of your stuff :) email is the best for me, alex@intenseproductions.com.au
The way I seasoned my swag is by leaving it in a filled bathtub overnight
Same with me, saw the video Tim Bates made on it a while ago. I had a shitty anaconda swag and just about every part on it has failed within 3 years, but I’ve never had rain come in through the canvas.
I did the same. Its really the only way to season one. Hosing it does nothing.
Welcome back Alex
Take an empty bottle with large opening into swag when you retire! It really sucks undoing those zips and getting out to have a piss.
I did when camping when it was raining 🌧 & carried on when I got home over winter when it's cold 🥶
😁😆😂🤣.
About to crack that 3k subs! 🎉 ❤
Taking its sweet time I tell ya!
Is it that important to season the swag ? Does it come down to brand ?
Good question, I think brand definitely can play a part in it. The kings swag I used in this video is bad for it, I seasoned it 3 times and it still leaks badly.

Tip#9. A bottle of Port ensures a great nights sleep in your swag.
Sub-tip to this....a goon bag of port ensures quite the opposite 😄
Make sure you take your keys out when rolling up !
24 hours to swell up and reach full thickness 🤭
All this talk about poles gave me half a mongrel.
I chuckled
Don't try and carry one of these bad boys on your motorbike. Hiking tents are a much better option.
That seems like solid advice 😆
