Nice to see a chill realistic camping video in comparison to all the other dramatised camping youtube videos out there. Perfect watch for a relaxing sunday morning, love it
I think the thing I like most about your reviews is that they are entirely factual- you’re not saying “this is too expensive etc.” Because everyone’s financial situation is different. You could be loaded and live full time in a caravan which means a $250 chair is not an issue. Whereas if you’re an apprentice who camps 3 times a year go and get a $15 2nd handy from Marketplace. But you’ll clearly show the pros and cons and what you’re getting for your extra money. And don’t worry I’ll keep loading you up with gear to review
Thanks maaaate! Yeah exactly. Staying factual is something I'm actually finding to be the biggest challenge, trying not to bash or over hype things and just present them for what they are
Mate , I am probably nieve, but for those of us who really enjoyed intents and now your reviews I will trust that you will be honest with us, especially giving a heads up prior to the review. I reckon take what they will offer .... we will understand... you are the one doing the hard work, not us.
You sir, have provided me with a profound "NO WAY" moment.... Your AeroPress technique has caused me a rethink around the abandonment of their use, after wearing 3 of them out, in favour of a Moka Pot. The burnt steamed fingers when trying to insert the plunger with it sitting on top of a cup had always irked me. Hallelujah....enlightenment.....Thankyou.
haha I don't even remember where I picked this technique up! But I started doing it because I found most of the coffee had just dribbled through before I could get the plunger in. I guess the only thing now to worry about is how it's more top heavy and therefor should be easier to knock over, although in the 5 years I've been doing it I haven't knocked it over once.
Something that might be really interesting for the kings review might be figuring out if you started with a kings swag, add the cost of the seam sealer as per previous video and the a replacement/second mattress where it would match up cost and performance wise. E.G. a Darche Swag is currently $450 at BCF (as of 23/11/2024) but you could buy a kings swag with a bag for $108.95 (as of 23/11/2024), Seam grip for $18 (Tent world) and Darche's own mattress for $139.90 (Snowy's as of 23/11/2024). Putting the full cost in the ball park or $270, still heavily undercutting the $450 Darche by a 40% ($180)
In my experience, without any form of insulation beneath the swag you will often get condensation on the bottom of the mattress when it's on a stretcher. The padding on that stretcher would certainly help to keep the swag floor from becoming cold and condensation forming. My stretcher has no padding and I often fond the bottom of the mattress would be damp in the morning, despit having a lot of air flow through the swag. No condensation anywhere else. So I put a yoga mat on top of the stretcher to keep the cold air away from the base. So far it has done the trick, but I'm yet to try it out again in really cold (well.... "Australia cold") weather.
G'day Camper. Great to see you on tube again for another episode. Love how you have a no fuss experience out there. There's something comforting in having cereal out camping. I barely eat cereal at home but it's an easy go to when I'm out camping. My grandfather had the same Engel back in the 80s that eventually found its way to my dad before all 3 passed away from old age and a happy life. Now I have my own 80 litre Engel fridge that's probably overkill for the size but always gets filled up when I use it. Handy tip for fridges. If they seem to not be getting cold or not working too good. Empty it out and leave it upside down powered off for a couple of days. Helps to dry it out if any ice has built up around the fan and seems to help the motor out somehow. Cheers camper
As someone who free camps all the time .. can I give you my thoughts .. Plug on the front of the fridge is handy .. plug in turn it on .. pull plug out turn it off .. easy peasy. There are a lot of options now with freeze dried food. Boil the kettle .. off you go. For a few days this works well and you don't need to carry crap loads of cooking stuff .. AND NO WASHING UP. Cheap 18v drill with a decent drill bit will help get those pegs into tough ground. Potato asparagus and steak .. faaark that is the best meal I can think of. Try hanging your headlamp around your neck .. it is a game changer for me when I'm cooking or trying to put something together and it doesn't give me a headache from being too tight. Great Chanel .. keep up the good work.
OK, First timer here, I do not know why I watched your whole video other than to say I really did enjoy your content. FRESH Honest Straight forward and VERY easy to listen to! I did hit the like button BUT I'm not a real fan of review channels. HOWEVER I did hit subscribe all! Lets see what happens, oh and you do appear likeable. 6:04 "You can carry apples they tend to last pretty well in a box" : ) I've been wondering what happened to camping with folks bringing all these stuff outdoors to watch a movie or their electric coffee makers... appreciate your sense of humor!
OMG! Your Corolla Seca my first car. I still miss and wish I’d never got rid of it. Such a great little car with amazing fuel economy. Can’t wait for that hatch camping trip.
The manual grinding of coffee, plus brewing in an Aeropress, is one of my favourite camp rituals as well., only made better by boiling water on a campfire. Loving the new content, but also loving the occasional video like this, that Intents sticker on the back of the truck isn't going anywhere soon (except on a trip)
Great to see you again, Intents was a lot of fun back in the day, as soon as I saw you again on YT I was reminded of the scooter builds that was a great series. They were all good and the crew were very funny, I ordered the little Campmaster stove from Super cheap immediately after procrastinating for years over the over priced other one. Thanks for the tip, your timing is perfect for a new camping review channel, dispersed with other varied content, go well, 👍
I have a few camping set ups. My now "basic" set up has evolved to be less basic using an air swag (dometic pico 2x2) and an air gazebo (quest 3x3m) so it all fits in the boot of my little hatch daily driver. You can definitely camp out of a small car easily, just depends how much comfort you want as well.
My fav meal when camping is 2 min noodles with jerky and a tin of peas/corn thrown in, but it's how it's done that is different. You boil water and soak the noodles and jerky (don't put the seasonings in from the noodle pack). Once the noodles are soft how you like them, strain and throw in pan with butter. Strain peas/corn and throw them in too. Turn on the pan and fry whilst adding the 2 min noodle seasoning pack. Bloody yum. If you like things spicy, get chilli jerky and use that :-)
Love this concept on reviews whilst camping mate just seem to flow really well and found my self more engaged, something about an honest review whilst actually using the product for real.
New subscriber here, I like your reviews, very concise and down to the point. I tent camp mostly by myself except I bring my dog, as an older woman a 70 lbs pit bull is not only my companion but my protection as well. Thank you very much for the video reviews, I’ve only watched a few and I like the content.
Awesome little twinky dink Corolla! I had a later AE93 Seca SX with the 'big port' for many years, and loved it. One of my biggest regrets was selling that car and I still keep a lookout in case a nice one ever comes up for sale 🙂
Always interesting to see what gear is out there. I have frequently thought about getting a Jetboil but the price has always put me off. The 'knock off' version looks a lot more realistic price wise.
No fridge yet... I use a dometic 33 litre icebox and 2×frozen 1.5l water bottles. They fit perfectly & will keep milk/ food cool for a weekend(Wilbinga, Yaegerup) without getting wet.
Haha hatch back camping, can't wait. Love seeing people get out in what ever they've got. I have done a couple trips in my 2 door Getz 😂. Strategically packed there but putting all gear back in was another story😂 Look forward to the bonus ep
This was a lot of fun. The joy of finding the mozzie gear, a great meal, and I look forward to watching your review of the swag. Pretty area, but sad to hear about all the die back near the forests.
Yeah, eskys work, most towns have ice if you need it. I used to camp in a Datsun sports - like an MG. Basic equipment, but it worked great. Even towed a dinghy with it. Cheers Alex
Great video again keep up the good work, can't wait to see the next one. Would be cool to see your thoughts on the coleman or a different brand petrol stove, I have been using one for about a year now, and it has made things a lot simpler, as living out bush can make getting the gas canisters a bit hard. Plus spare petrol makes fire lighting easy lol
For me I did 10 years with an esky and loved the ice for drinks. the cheap gas cooker from supercheap is now 20 years in and is better than that pricy unit you have. I do like that awning so will check it out. Thanks for taking all the flys over to the west,
Yes, you can't beat ice for drinks! It's a whole other level of experience. Agree on the Butane Stove, if not for the quirky design and tiny size, I'm all about the 30 buck (bloody inflation) kmart cooker
As a 70 year old girl with OA, I still like to camp. Those epic trips on RUclips are out of reach for me. I like the way you keep it real. I really enjoyed this one!
Hahaha, lost it at the what keeps you occupied segment. Really enjoying your videos. And you've reminded me I need to replace my stock of heavy duty tent pegs (long story). Not sure if they have the Estwing "Fireside Friend" short handled splitting maul in Oz but it's become my go to combo splitter and 2kg beating-things-back-into-shape hammer. Also less scary for non-axe-competent friends who just want to have a chop.
Hey dude! imagine watching camping vids on youtube and you stumble on the bloke you shared spanners with at ARB. Love the twinky, the bigports go hard! Love the channel
Hey Alex, been watching since you were Intents. I primarily do Adventure bike moto camping so definitely no fridge😂. I use a mix of hiking and regular camp gear. It's amazing how many things you don't need when you refine your setup over and over. I agree with the grinding beans thing at camp although I use a Bialetti Moka pot rather than an aeropress. There are genuine ($30-$40) and knockoff aswell ($15). Give it a try if you haven't...
Yeah we've been experimenting with the Bialetti a bit lately too. I can't believe how expensive the Aeropress has got! I do love getting into the hiking gear a bit, but I tend to leave it off this channel, it tends to be its own niche
Hi Alex. After watching your dunny review the other day I have been watching some of your other reviews. I actually saw you at the 4X4 show talking to Matt, I was sitting on a chair about a metre away. I also have an Engel fridge I bought in the early eighties and it has been running non stop as a beer fridge or a freezer for around 37 years although it was battling today with 45 degrees. Normally around minus 18 degrees and just noticed it is only at minus 4 degrees, it was a hot one. Had to laugh when you were playing the bongo and whether Warby up on the hill over the river could hear you. Yes I am sort of a local, live about 80kms to the east of there.
In my opinion, If you find a nice product you really think is cool and useful. And request from the manufacturer to give you one for a positive review. That's fine as long as you pick the product you want to show to the audience. And everyone is happy!
Send jake to do the walk trail 😂😂. Epic out there in winter, stayed a few nights, fire, rums there dryandra forrest also, the wild life ia wild possum, bilbys, roos birds etc. I loved my old oztent chair, although as i get older i like to sit up striaght, so opted for a dune 4wd one that can recline and up straight for eating dinner.
I'm feeling ya on the chair! Still got a crook back a week later and I'm staring down the barrel of a week slouched in camp chairs 😄 I always mean to get out to dryandra for more camps...maybe next year
To be honest, i dont think I'd mind if you were given kit to review. As long as it's fair and balanced, pros and cons list as you always do. If you're given equipment but aren't tied to solely positive review, unless it is that good !! No reason you can't make a bit of money out of this. Buying equipment is a costly exercise, and borrowing has it's limits. Edited, the Kids were annoying me and now I have some quiet time! Fixed some spelling and expanded my comment. Keep up the good work 👍
I'm excited to share! A 1986 AE82 Seca with 180,000ks on it! Factory 16 valve 4AGE, full grandpa spec except for the biggest cams I could fit on factory internals, extractors and a sports exhaust 😁
Yes! So glad you picked that up 😁 i was a teenager when that song came out, the film clip was hysterical to us. And then "fire in the disco" stuck as my default statement when something is ignited
@Camping_reviews lol yep sorry about that. Next time i'm in SCA i'll have a nosey for the shipping weight on the box. If it doesnt weight a tonne/comes in reasonably light, hard to argue with $450 sale price 😮
I don't rate the Engel. We had them in our vehicles when I was in the Army. They kept having issues with the 12/240 v systems. Had a Waeco for over 20 years. Done some tough trips. Never had a single problem.
The army is certainly a good test for a fridge too, thanks for the info! We were a bit concerned getting a Waeco because at the time we heard a lot of tales of them failing. But we've had one going strong in our camper trailer for 8 years now
@Camping_reviews I am a rough bastard I tapped it too hard on a tree when cleaning it, the only frisbee I have is a rubber "Kong" version for my dog it's unbreakable..
I think the thing I like most about your reviews is that they are entirely factual- you’re not saying “this is too expensive etc.” Because everyone’s financial situation is different. Indeed costs are relative, most times if cost wasn't an issue the other products do the same job.
Good job mate. The content, dry humour and length of the video was spot on.

Haha there was some sort of machine running over that way, so I reckon poor old Warby probably missed out!
WOOOOOO!!!!! #10 loving the content mate ❤
Thanks mate!
In my opinion, If you find a nice product you really think is cool and useful. And request from the manufacturer to give you one for a positive review. That's fine as long as you pick the product you want to show to the audience. And everyone is happy!
Loved this video format!
Yip loving the reviews buddy, camping videos are informative and inspiring, I have a campmaster boiler, $50 does the same as the jetboil extravaganza
great relaxed video to see all the equipment tin action
11:59 Crushed it 🙌
Great video!
Mate good to see you back 😊 but your review on the Engel fridge they maybe good back in the day but the new one are shit..
Great work
Fantastic review, can't wait for the next couple, typical Alex filming the 10th releasing as the 11th
Haha 100% me all over, always shooting and editing the day before release 🙄
@Camping_reviews It is what makes you, you and so relatable
Keep up the good work 👍
HOLY SHIT! that corolla, WE NEED DETAILS!!!!!!
I'm excited to share! A 1986 AE82 Seca with 180,000ks on it! Factory 16 valve 4AGE, full grandpa spec except for the biggest cams I could fit on factory internals, extractors and a sports exhaust 😁
Thanks for sharing
Are you not presenting hard quiz any more?
Love the channel btw
I liked the Electric 6 reference... the film clip is slightly disturbing.
Yes! So glad you picked that up 😁 i was a teenager when that song came out, the film clip was hysterical to us. And then "fire in the disco" stuck as my default statement when something is ignited
Would the ridge Ryder awning give good coverage at the back-for a dual cab Ute?
Not if it was mounted on the cab. If you have a canopy and mount it to that, it'll be fine
Odd Q and hopefully answered in the upcoming awning review, SuperCheap dont list the weight of the awning, any idea of its kg?
@@andrewcaldwell2275 I think I'll have to unbolt it and weigh it before I do the review. I hope I don't dent my car with it like I did last time 😄
@Camping_reviews lol yep sorry about that. Next time i'm in SCA i'll have a nosey for the shipping weight on the box. If it doesnt weight a tonne/comes in reasonably light, hard to argue with $450 sale price 😮
@andrewcaldwell2275 I've gotta say, the feel in my arms is pretty similar to the bat awning I reviewed previously which was 21-ish kilos.
But we've had one going strong in our camper trailer for 8 years now
Stove windshield...carry some heavy aluminium foil.
Did you get a sore back from the swag?
I am glad you aren't promoting that kings stuff
so triggererd by the improperly closed car foor for some reason!
No salt or pepper on your steak is a crime lol
I too was ashamed...I think it ended up in my camper trailer. Couldn't find it when I needed it most!
I broke my aeropress 😞
Daaaamn you must press HARD. I heard that the person who invented the frisbee also invented aeropress. Are frisbees safe in your hands? 😅
@Camping_reviews I am a rough bastard I tapped it too hard on a tree when cleaning it, the only frisbee I have is a rubber "Kong" version for my dog it's unbreakable..
Ah the ol’ Kings delux swag. The worst of the worst yet EVERYONE has bought one (except for me, thank goodness). What garbage.
