Interesting the different ways to go about camping and the compromises. I like being able to stand up to get dressed etc and have a bit of room so it's a tent for me. I always wonder about the rooftop tents stuck up on top of a jacked up 4wd and having to get in and out of it during the night after a session on the booze. Pretty sure I would break my neck the first night and they must be hell on the off road handling with all that weight up the top. I saw the same vehicle as mine a while back with a rooftop tent and an awning bolted to it and I'd already done the sums on weights etc with mine. No way that thing was close to being within spec. for the roof of the vehicle or the roof rack. If I had the money, and went out more often, I would be setting up a Pod trailer with all the gear and maybe a lower roof top tent. Each to their own.
@@WACampingAdventures Cheers mate. I have been drooling over the Trailmaster Pod trailers as I think that set up right they would be awesome and cover a lot of bases. AFAIK you can spec. them with the same wheels/tyres as your tow vehicle which means an extra spare as well. They're very light and you could move some of the weight from the tow vehicle to the trailer as well. They can also be specced with 12v systems, water tanks etc etc. Not cheap but I think that they would be a good thing if used well.
Regarding roof top tents, you're right about the falls risk I think . Easy to do serious damage, especially when you're over 50. Add to that, you're in the middle of nowhere with bugger all access to ambulance 🇦🇺
I have the same problem with the hips, Pete. Those who don't know can't tell you how painful it is. I've woken up limping half the day. 😒 I've resorted to chucking a self inflating mattress on top of the foam. It works. I've done camping in a tent, a pop-up trailer, and a rooftop tent. They all have one disadvatage... you have to set them up😂😅😂. Cheers Pete🎉
I tell you what Pete, I've never been the biggest fan of these style swags, I use a stretcher tent. But this one this one has peaked my curiosity for sure 👏.
bit the bullet and got one, really impressed with the quality at first glance, yet to do an overnighter in it to test it out. that mattress on the floor was nicer then my old swag on a stretcher .
Awesome bro I'm going to go two swags now for me and the mrs, on stretcher beds, looks perfect, 100mm thick mattress too damn! You've sold that setup for me now, cheers for that 🤙
We have a caravan but wanted options to free camp away from it so purchased the dometic inflatable swags over a RTT. A video Ronny Dahl did ages ago educated us on roof weight restrictions and seriously who wants to hear suspension going nuts during the night 😂😂! Great video Pete 👍🏻
Great review on the swag but I didn't see why u choose it over a roof top tent mate. Plenty of comparison to other swags but no mention to why u prefer it over a roof top tent
Pete knows his swags that’s for sure A stretcher makes a massive difference I have an inflatable swag, so if I’m pissed and fall on it it just bounces back into shape 😂
Great review Brother. It looks like a good bit of kit that’s for sure. Definitely got some great features. Well made. I’m the same with my shoulders. I wake up sore if my shoulders are in an uncomfortable bed Got to be comfortable. I must say though. I would personally pick our RTT over a swag everyday of the week. The sleep I get in ours is like home 👌 Glad you’ve found a set up that suits you Brother 👌 Cheers 🍻
I’m away from home 4-6 months a year working on stations in FNQ got a RTT on my cruiser and wouldn’t have it any other way I’ve swagged it for year years but my RTT is A1 and I can stand up to get changed so each to their own aye
Very interesting, thanks for this. Coming from South Africa, we know nothing about swags, so I’m trying to research as much as possible about these weird things before buying 😊
I guess you might be wanting to know there's no large predators in the area, eh, when you sleep in a tent in South Africa. I guess it's the two legged dangerous types you most likely have to worry about over there. 🇦🇺
Fantastic review as usual you are as honest as the day is long. We have an Aldi easy up tent which we free camped from Hervey Bay to Uluru n return, was an absolute revelation. Takes up the same area as a double swag n probably about the same weight. I feel so many people get hoodwinked into getting a RTT not realising the weight restriction on their roof
Great video Pete… I’m after a new swag, I think it will be a toss up between yours and the one cam reviewed a couple of months back . Just on the videos I think this one looks better 🍻
Fantastic Pete another awesome video mate and great swag too looks bloody comfortable stay safe mate hope the family is well 👍😂👍🇦🇺can’t wait for the next episode 👍
Great video Pete. Love the audio quality with the mic on too mate! It only took me getting bogged on a 30 degree angle for 2 days once to decide that I never want a rooftop tent! Sleeping in a swag on a level surface next to my ute that was leaning over made it a very obvious decision! 😂 onya mate, ripper production as always!
@WACampingAdventures That would be awesome mate, I'm all over that! I'll grab your number off Cam when I catch him in the coming weeks and keep in touch with ya 🙂
G”day Pete , fully agree with you on the swag and stretcher set up mate, I even have the same stretcher 👍. At 64 and a light weight it’s much easier to roll in and out of lol . Did you get the straps and D buckles at Bunnings ? mine are the clip in type and there stuffed. 🍻🍻
i love a user review, tho was keen to hear about why you chose a swag over a rooftop tent. I can think of a few, having to go for a pee in the middle of the night, the roof top tent doesn't fit on the boat, a landcruiser makes a bad river boat etc lol
😂😂😂😂best comment hahaha i can see how ive numptied the title up. I sort of meant it in a way that i love the swag so i dont need a rooftop tent but do like swags for ease of use, being able to move around without packing up rooftop tent. And the toilet thing is legit a worry hahaha
It did come across as a big sales pitch wich is fine, you did mention the discount wich is the same as saying they sponsor me. But it's getting harder and harder to watch 4WD videos. I understand the more revenue the more resources you can dedicate to videos but it's becoming monotonous. I no longer watch Ronny Dahl, Andrew St. Pierre White, or any of the other commercials. If I wanted ads, I'd watch TV. Sorry that rant got away from me and probably makes no sense (no filter, no editing), but you where one of the last real ones please stay real

Gday brother thanks for watching! That stretcher is a Oztent RS-1S. Perfect size as it matches the size of the swag but heaps of different ones around, i got it because it holds more weight for the bigger boy that i am hahaha
Yep, love my BlackWolf Roebuck swag on a stretcher bed. Roof tops don't do it for me anymore, the ladder is no good for my knees, and due to my kidney transplant I pee a lot at night.
What stretcher do you run with your swag.. I have the rt1swag in sandy colour. i bought the oztent stretcher rs1 200kg weight rated i am 187cm tall and weight 115kg. but after 3 weeks off continuous use, I started feeling sag towards the middle, which makes me wonder, do all stretchers, or does everyone get the sag or has my stretcher failed me..
Thats a good comment brother! I have the r1-s1 which i think might be the same! I have not noticed too much sag but its definitely present. Still loving it though for the heavy duty frame and weight capacity!
They seem very expensive at nearly $700... but thats fine if they are aussie made. But yet I cannot see anywhere on Raingers website that they are...If these are just chinese swags thats very expenisve. Because then they are actually just all coming from the same factories over there. They do look the exact same design as your BCF and Darche and Ridge 4x4 swags? My old BCF swag looks just like this... so to be charging the same as a Murchison River Swag that is also $700 but aussie made and a 10 year warranty makes sense. This doesnt? Am I missing something?

If you have a rooftop tent you need a small pop up in case that happens
