- Time for a Top 10 Disney countdown! Today we’re taking a look at Fantasmic at the Disneyland Park and Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, sharing some Fantasmic secrets and counting down the Top 10 Fantasmic Bloopers, Fantasmic Malfunctions and Fantasmic Bloopers from falls to animatronic malfunctions. Fantasmic is a popular nighttime spectacular that originated and opened at Disneyland in 1992. After the success of Fantasmic at Disneyland, a second version opened at Disney Hollywood Studios (formerly known as Disney MGM Studios) in 1998! Fantasmic is a very impressive technical show that includes everything from pyrotechnics, to music synchronized to water fountains and screens, 50 plus live performers, moving barges and all the Disney magic you can think of! That would also mean anyone performing as Eric would have to certify that they can carry another person easily, which isn’t always the easiest.

Once when the Dragon went up in flames there was no Plan B, in fact the fire raged on out of control and the park was evacuated. That put a spotlight on fire safety at this show. I'm pretty sure this would be your new number 1 Blooper now.
It’s a shame it’s probably permanently gone. I might have not watched Fantasmic a lot when I went, I kinda liked World of Color better, the original version not the alternate versions but I can always praise Fantasmic because of the dragon because how epic it looks.
@@JonathanGaetayeah, they announced that the dragon (nicknamed Murphy due to it’s habit of breakdowns before the fire) will not be returning when fantasmic returns in 2024

I love how with every malfunction/plan B that you point out, you have something positive to say about it and recognize how technically difficult this show is yet how well-prepared the cast and crew are to conquer any difficulties that may arise!
I prefer Disneyland's Fantasmic both before and after the huge refurb that it just underwent. As you-yourself-mentioned, Disneyland performers have more energy (not just in that one clip but almost always in my opinion), and I like the sequences at Disneyland better. The main thing I like at WDW better is that you can sit throughout the whole show, and there really is no bad spot in the amphitheater.

Jose Pablo Martinez-Rendon if you haven’t gone since you made this comment, I’ll let you know that it is. I went in June for Pixar fest and my siblings watched it(I was to short and decide just to leave). I’m not sure about around this time tho because of the Halloween party.
The disney world performers are probably less energetic because of orlando's hot and humid climate. It has to be hard for them to dance in a fullbody, furry suit.

PhoneGuy im actually from LA and ive been to both parks multiple times (obviously disnleyland more) and it actually gets chilly at night in 'land. Call me a weak californian but 'world is an absolute nightmare if you're wearing anything more than a t shirt and shorts.

SAME. I worked at the shows, parades, and one of the meet and greets in the parks, and I remember when the Dopey blooper came on my feed. I instantly was like, "DO WE KNOW IF DOPEY IS OK?!!?!? DO WE KNOW IF GOOFY IS OK?!?!?!?! ARE MY FRIENDS OK?!?!?!?!"

He did use to do that, but would sometimes trip and they'd fall, so they went with the bag the fish route.
It's not safe enough and them costumes are very heavy and it's not magical for her just to get carried.

I don’t think Ariel’s too upset about it. She’s one of the highest paid park actors in all of Disney. There’s less that could go wrong with the blanket. If Eric’s injured in any way, it’d be more dangerous than the blanket.

Yeah but I have never seen a dwarf fall on Goofy's head before because I have never been to Disney Land before or John Smith trying so hard not to fall off the mountain to get to the little steps

All we have in Florida is a head connected to a wire. Disneyland definitely has it better.
While Disneyland’s is definitely more impressive, I’m still happier watching at Disney World in seats with better sight lines 🤷🏻♀️

Bill Marion I’ve also heard that Disneyland, being in a larger population center with proximity to Hollywood, they simply have a bigger pool of talent to draw from. For that reason, you may notice that in some acts, the dance moves are more elaborate at Disneyland than similar shows and parades in Orlando. WDW does have many programs that bring in talent from across the country and around the world, but it is much harder to keep that up.
It does get cold at night in Anaheim. Which is weird, since in Los Angeles, it can be hot into the evening.

Pretty sure she's strapped to the platform she sits on as well, not 100% sure, but removing her instead of covering would take much more time and wouldn't make it in time to clear the fire works

Side note:
If the park were in Germany, (and I guess a few other countries too) they'd have to pay the Ariel-actress a bonus for the unusual risk of staying out on the deck of the boat during the fireworks.
Any place where they have fried food in Disneyland they have to pay the cooks a hazard pay, she's likely getting a hazard bonus as well.
She is definitely getting a bonus for the danger of it!
Plus I guess the danger of her falling off the boat, she can't save herself as easy.

I saw the version where the dragon malfunctioned and they had to close the show.
Still grumpy to this day.
Thats the first time the new dragon malfunctioned and then they added Maleficent rising up to cover.
I like that you keep a genuine respectability to the cast members, understanding the vast majority of this isnt really their fault and commending their often flawless recoveries

I grew up watching the Fantasmic show in Disneyland Anaheim, CA. I was out of the country when the major changes to the show were made in 2017. Now I live in a different state of the US and so I had the opportunity to visit the park during the holiday season this past year. Needless to say, I was a bit let down at some of the changes that had been made but I really enjoyed this video! It made me tear up a bit just at the nostalgia of my childhood.

Why couldn't like, Eric or somebody carry Ariel off the boat? Even with the blanket on her it still seems dangerous
you probably already know this, but ariel’s costume is connected to the platform and so she can’t really escape very fast
It takes a long time to put her in that tail and then tie her to the pedestal she sits on. It would take too long to get her out and it would be a legal nightmare if another performer picked her up and dropped her. It's actually quite safe, the drape is soaked in flame retardant chemicals literally every day. Same for all the Pyro gloves that Mickey wears and several other costume items that get really close to Pyrotechnics. A bunch of the Evil Queen's stuff gets flame retardant chemicals too because of the proximity to the cauldron.
After the fireworks the Eric performer goes back to help her down and typically carries the tail off the boat for her. She's not abandoned it's just the safest way.
I think I prefer the Plan B for the Evil Queen more than the Plan A. After all, wasn't it her goal in the movie to be fairest in the land? ;) Only this time, she is not after Snow White, but after the mouse.

I've only ever seen Disney World Fantasmic! because I live in Miami FL so my family just takes 4 hour road trips instead of 8 hour flights.

As a clumsy UPS driver constantly on surveillance my "well that wasn't brilliant" will now become "well that wasn't magical".
I will NEVER forget it for as long as I live. At the end of the show, after Sorcerer Mickey did his thing, Mickey in his traditional costume came running out instead of just appearing and then after he said the line, he went running off stage and I thought that was so funny as a kid
I think the one in California is better but that is just my opinion because I've never been to Florida so I've only seen the California version live

When I watched fantastic for the first time this month (September) we literally got the best view, in the middle and in the front and that barely happens to us when we watch a performance or show. And it was our first time at Disneyland

I adore Fantasmic! My family went once to Disneyland and we took the VIP tour so we got the front row seats. We forgot that my little brother would probably become upset by the fireworks. (He was special needs but had been doing so amazing that day. That was the majority of the reason we needed the tour, after the issue with people lying about special needs we no longer could get the pass we needed for my brother.) Anyway he started crying because we were in the front row so his noice reducers weren’t enough. We made quite the scene. Our family was the glitch that night.
Fantasmic has this magic in it. It gives me goosebumps all the time. I’m so glad they had a refurbishment on the the old fantasmic. Many people may not like the new one, but the original will always be cherished. I love Disneyland so much, with out it I don’t know what I’d do.
Disneyland will always have better performers because there are so many aspiring actors and dancers in the LA area who can work for disney while auditioning for their big break. Florida will never have that kind of talent pool to fish in.
Also, yeah, the florida parks have really been let go in recent years and not managed as well as they were in the 90s and very early 2000s. But I imagine even back then Disneyland performers were much better for the above reason. Disneyland performers are actors/dancers who just happen to be dressed as characters. Disney world performers are people dressed as characters who happen to be dancing and acting.
i have a story so when my family and i went to fantasmic and while we were waiting till the show started everyone started turning their phone flash and waving it around and since my siter dosent have a phone and so she had on light up shoes and then she took her shoe off and turned it on and starts waving it around and everyone staired at her and the people behind ous started to take pictures and laugh and my sister just keeped laughing and my parents where embarreds to be her parent. LOL XD

Putting on a show like Fantasmic does take lots of effort and practicing.
I saw the Disney World Fantasmic, and it was such a huge deal for me being 12. I had bugged my mom since I was four to go to Disney and we finally did it! I was sitting in the back row to get the best view of the show, it was probably one of the best experiences at the park!
If this show ever permanently closed down I think I would be heartbroken. This show is a great way to finish off the day at Hollywood Studios and it it’s just the most magical performance!

Fantasmic is my absolute favorite performance at the parks.
As a teenager I saw Disneyland's Fantasmic, but my memory of it is spotty at best. I do remember the water projections being absolutely amazing, and to this day it's probably my favorite part of the show.
In 2012 I got to see the Hollywood Studios version at Walt Disney World, and it blew my mind. All manner of new things had been added since the last time I was there, including a bunch of Pixar references. I want to say I at least saw Carl's house from Up and WALL-E and EVE doing some of their dancing. Of course Jafar's snake and Maleficent's dragon were incredible...I lucked out in that the animatronic seemd to work fine.
That "awww" when Mickey's fingers didn't spark got me 🤣
I have seen case were the dragon wasn’t working at DL and they had to project him on some water it was still cool but I was really hoping the dragon would come out
