as someone who grew up with v1.0, v2.0 came off as just utterly soulless. 1.0 had dirt, it felt lived-in. 2.0 was the extra features menu from a corporate training DVD.
Never been on 2.0, but I loved World of Motion as a kid, so did my Grandma. She was blind so she mostly liked the music and history being told. I was amped for 1.0 and loved it as a kid, but I also owned crash test dummy toys so I feel like it was aimed at a certain era and aged quicker than they expected. Now, looking back WoM is Marc Davis completely unleashed. It may as well have been called Marc Davis’s World of Motion. Classic!🎉
FYI: the traffic jam scene was a masterpiece that made me want to ride again and again just to look at all the characters and gags. I’m not going to lie, Epcot from my childhood was a nerd kid dream. Horizons, Universe of Energy, Maelstrom, Spaceship Earth, Listen to the Land, and World of Motion changed me for the better. It was like going to the most fun museum in the country.
As a kid I loved the effect of the car crashing in front of you as you rounded the turn for the barrier test. Always thought it was neat that it would deform to make it seem like it was damaged upon impact. At least before they just parked a crashed SUV there.
15:06 The corrosive room was a joke room. The joke is that Bill asks if they remembered to turn off the corrosive robots before the riders were sent through the room, but they of course forgot so the riders were "exposed" to corrosive chemicals which was a water mist with a bitter smell.

World of Motion all the way. I'm old enough to remember it and it was nice to have a nice calm ride to be able to enjoy with my whole family. My parents are elderly now and can ride fewer and fewer rides, and to have something to bring us back together and to bring us closer to original EPCOT is always what I want. I wouldn't say it was a super popular ride back in its day, but neither was anything at EPCOT, they were all similar dark rides that teach you things, and it was yet another one. But I really liked "It's Fun to Be Free" and how they changed the music style with each scene to correlate with the period, and there was SO much to look at and see new things each time. I look forward to see what the new version is!
Going purely by attendance figures, World of Motion was actually EPCOT's second most popular attraction only behind Spaceship Earth. It just had a super high capacity so it rarely had a long line.
I agree. World of Motion was excellent. Test Track is okay, but I don’t think it has aged well as a mediocre thrill ride, which is why it keeps having to be updated. WoM was more timeless.

I absolutely adore test track. The music of 2.0 is amazing and and 1.0 being so good. I love this ride and I hope 3.0 is better then both and more generations can experience test track
I think Disney could open a "Classics" park with updated versions of old favorites from the bygone era. A place for the folks that miss all of their childhood favorites. Of course, I'm talking about "If you had Wings".
My only concern with a v3.0 of Test Track would be a “disjointed” feel for EPCOT as a whole. While I wasn’t a fan of v2.0, it felt more in theme with the current state of the park; the Tron vibe while weird “worked” thematically. My biggest question for Disney…where are we going with Epcot???
Modern Disney seems incapable of maintaining a cohesive theme across the parks. There are areas that are done far better than others, some of which have been there for a long time (Frontierland/Liberty Square), but now there is more of a disjointed feeling within the parks overall.
7:34 I just realized that those fake traffic cones standing in the way of the cars drop down before they are hit by the cars, which makes sense, as wear and tear on them and the car bumpers probably would be too much given how many times a day they would be hit, but while I knew that they were fake and flat, I still was always under the impression that the car just drives over them, folding them down in the process.
It really is incredible to me that my first trip in 1995 was the last bastion year for so many of the original attractions at EPCOT. The newest things in all three parks at the time were the new Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom and the original Innoventions in Futureworld. What a year!
Mid 90s is peak WDW in my opinion. Granted, there wasn’t as much to do overall, as Animal Kingdom didn’t exist but what was there was top notch. I miss it.
I was fortunate enough to experience Epcot (Center) from 1987 onwards - with it being so entrenched in my childhood, world of motion will always be the best to me. The travel through time, incredible sets, loads of great gags but also teaching a lesson. I miss it as much as I miss Horizons.
Funny how Horizons gets talked about more but World of Motion was superb in its own right. It was such a charming and relaxing experience, the likes of which we don’t get anymore.
The first time I ever rode Test Track was in it's 1.0 phase. The queue line for it was VERY loud, but it was super fascinating because there was so much to look at. Looking back I really do miss that version of the attraction. The 2.0 version will not be missed by me at all.
My family did Disney vacations every year from 1996-1998 and each time kept reading in books and such how Test Track would be open and wasn't. Finally there in 1999.
Journey Into Imagination's 1983 attraction shouldn't have been touched. It was probably the most timeless out of EVERY attraction within Epcot! I'd love to see the original ride return.
Arguably the biggest mistake ever made at WDW as a whole but definitely at Epcot. It’s hard to describe to those who didn’t ride the original how much better it was than anything that’s been there since.
@@josephbrown9685 It was definitely an EPCOT classic, I'd say along the lines of Pirates of Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. I legitimately don't understand why Disney decided to remove it.
I've only ever experienced Test Track 2.0 so don't feel a lot of grief for the versions of the attraction that came before. The first time we rode it was in 2013 and it was actually pretty new. I thought it was fine, but the important thing about it is that it's the most thrilling ride at Disney World that I can share with my whole family, who are not big thrill enthusiasts. It's right at that upper bound--that and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Anything beyond that, I'm riding solo. When she was little, my daughter absolutely loved the "design your car" queue activity, and that was really the big draw of the ride, that and the post-show activities you could play with the car you designed. But the Tron aesthetic did seem redundant once Disney World had an actual Tron ride, and it does seem like it's high time for another take. I appreciate that GM is the one original sponsor of Epcot that hung on with the slot they originally sponsored, enabling all these changes. Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea is the Tokyo counterpart. I had to ride that one myself because they realized that one had a drop, though honestly it's a pretty gentle drop, more of a dark ramp.
Ohmygod I grew up in Orlando and when I went back to Disney last year we went to Disney. I knew something was different about Test Track. I loved 1.0 and was actually pretty disappointed with the changes. Looking forward to what comes next.
I LOVED the OG World of Motion because it had that classic EPCOT Edutainment feel, plus the post show was great with Bird and the Robot and the Water Engine show! 😎
I didn't know until now that when I went on Test Track 2.0 in December 2012 it had just reopened. It was my first time at WDW since 1981 when I went to Magic Kingdom as an eight-month old baby. We also went to the Caribbean on that trip. Great video!
I would add that World of Motion was very popular for about 12 years and then the last time I went on it....there was no line. I don't know. I felt it was as great as Horizons, and I am a HUGE Horizons fan.
I like test track 1 better than test track 2 because it makes you feel like a test track dummy. I never been on world of motion but I’m excited to experience the new version
I remember when I went in May 99 the queues were huge and it had a habit of breaking down but when you got in it was amazing especially if you were an 8 year old petrolhead like me, the Crash Test Dummies were working the queue as well which made the wait tolerable, it may have only done 65 but it felt as thrilling then as holding a Car steady at 140 did as an adult.
I road Test Track in 2014 and enjoyed making the concept car. I always wanted to use that system again but haven’t been back back since. 2.0 is my favorite because it’s the only one I know. I’d enjoy it if they released that car design program as a website game, mobile game, or something.
Test Track 1.0 was the very best ride I have ever been on. After they changed it, it wasn't nearly as good, but at least they kept the 65 mph run around the outside. That was always the best part. That and the near miss with the semi-truck. I also liked the "empty warehouse" look of the queue. After all, I grew up in Detroit and I have been in actual assembly plants and, a few times, the R&D buildings. I have been in engineering facilities for Ford, GM, and Chrysler (back when there was still a Chrysler Corporation). I am looking forward to Test Track 3.0, but I have my fingers crossed that they don't mess it up.
As someone who seen all three versions, I really have to say that the nostalgia and history represented in the first world of motion Iteration was fantastic and I look forward to some type of return to the roots of the attraction with 3.0.!!
My favorite version is 2.0. It’s really only because it’s the version that I grew up with and I’m very nostalgic for it. (And the music kicks some real ass). I’m really pumped for 3.0.
I was there on the first night it opened to guests in December 98! Test track opened at the perfect time for me. I was 13. I didn’t have my license yet… but I was already interested in cars thanks to the World of Motion showroom. Thanks to the “how cars work” vibe of Test Track… I fully fell down the automotive repair/restore rabbit hole which is still going strong to this day. I even bought a white 95 Firebird because it reminded me of the shape of the ride cars. I really do miss the original, but I too am one of those weirdos who loved 2.0. I might have to blame that on my love of all things Tron. Said my farewells to it this past May, but I’d like to think that last car I designed on my final ride gets to live on my magic band forever. Here’s to hoping 3.0 gives us lots of fun nods to world of motion! I’m going to be doing a happy dance if Bird and Robot make an appearance.
My wife and I prefer 1.0 over 2.0. I liked the idea of test track being a realistic test headquarters not some simulated low budget video game. In 1.0 I felt as though I was a test track dummy and I was being used as a test subject. When 2.0 came out we were so disappointed. When it was 1.0 we would wait an hour or more to ride it if had to. 2.0 was like yea the line is under 30 minutes we’ll get it in at least once on this trip. 1.0 was the highlight of my trip but 2.0 stole that. Sorry thats just me.
WOM was probably my favorite. Lots of nice memories. In its day, I’d says it was somewhere between Living with the Land and Horizons 😻 1.0 is a close second. I loved the crash test dummy motif and my brother had a stuffed Pluto crash dummy.❤
it honestly took youtube videos to figure out that i was remembering world of motion. I had this memory of a great dark ride that i loved as a kid but i'd go to Disney year after year and couldn't figure out what the heck i was remembering. All i could remember was flashes of scenes and just really enjoying myself. I can remember Disney visits as each version was being built and wondering what it would be like. I think this is the version i'm most excited about.
2.0 was my favorite ride, and honestly still is even though Guardians is awesome, I still will always love getting to make my own car as a kid, no I’m not old but that was so cool to little 5 year old me, I’m gonna miss it and hopefully in the future I’ll get to take my kids when I’m older and let them experience the things I got to as a child, test track was and still is awesome, excited for the new one
I have such a soft spot for test track 1.0. I remember being so disappointed in 2.0 but I’m looking forward to 3.0! I’d love it if they leaned into an environmental edutainment thrill ride
I've a soft spot for Test Track 1.0. It was educational; it did a good job feeling like you were in a testing facility. It also had some humor and wackiness to it. Overall charming. I rode 2.0 several years back and it just wasn't the same. I think the concept of building and testing your own little car is interesting, but the execution felt disjointed. Didn't really vibe with the Tron look either, even though I get that you were 'digitally testing' your cars. Even the end felt completely different. 2.0 was just a sort of excited and hopeful 'Let's go!' type of launch and once you're out of the show building, the aesthetic is dropped so it's theming whiplash, where 1.0 throws you a bit of fun-fear with the wall fake-out, and then it's like you went so fast you broke through it and out of the facility.
I always wish the pavilion was a two ride area. World of motion within the building. Test track on the outside. Classic epcot had three of the best dark rides ever created. Spaceship Earth, World of Motion, and #1 of all time HORIZONS. I love thril rides, but I always understood that's not what epcot is about. Give me education and immersive sceneries.
I remember being so scared to ride this ride. I begged the CM to at least tell me if it went upside down and they couldn't say anything (this is something I've noticed, when I went to Wizarding World earlier this year, I asked if Hagrid's went upside down and they actually told me "No, it doesn't"). The fast part outside looked so fast and scary to me, but when we found out how fast it went (around 65mph), my parents went "We were driving that faster on the interstate to get here". Lol, I calmed down after that. But little preteen me having a panic attack in the line is a memory for sure, lol.
I never got to experience 1.0 Test Track (or maybe I did but I was too young to remember), but I remember my school field trip to Disney had managed to go there literally the day after 2.0 opened up. I loved it because I've loved cars since as long as I could remember and found the car design features of the attraction fun. I do sort of get nostalgic/wish i could have experienced 1.0 because I just enjoy cars in general and seeing all the car props in there would have been sick to see. Hope I can experiece whatever 3.0 will bring and I hope it's good
I'm dying 😂 I own a Chevy from the time of Test Track 2.0's opening, and it looks like a ride based on my car's design 😭 what an extremely specific theme
Test Track 2.0 gets way too much hate in my opinion. Maybe it's because it lead to one of the most formative pieces of media for me as a person or just that I love the TRON Aesthetic. But no I definitely think most of the hate for 2.0 is just nostalgia goggles
As I never got to experience World of Motion, I'm looking forward to the re-imagining. I love the Disney Edutainment stuff and really hope to see more of it... preferably in some fun dark ride like Spaceship Earth.
I grew up in the 80's, and I had the chance to see World of Motion 3 times, TT 1.0 once, and TT 2.0 once. I prefer them in chronological order, mostly due to the edutainment focus of the attraction. My parents were teachers, so Future World of the 80's was awesome! Frankly, that first loop outside on the original Omnimover track was (and still is) so unique. That being said, I'm fine with every iteration, as each one stuck with the edutainment theme in some way. I look forward to seeing what new concepts and classic homages they come up with.
Disney always will have the same 2 problems: A change in sponsorship can result in huge changes (especially if they don't want reminders to previous show/attraction and/or sponsor -if applicable) The park(s) lean heavily on both nostalgia and futuristic views, balancing these is very hard... because time moves and people change... The trick is how do you make people come back and go 'I remember that!' and still have go 'Oh, that's new!' while also not have them go 'I like the old one better...' (usually bit older repeat visitor) and/or hear them say 'God! This stuff is _sooooo_ outdated!' (usually the younger visitors, without previous experiences in the park) And while stuff like The Castle(s) etc won't be torn down and rebuild anytime soon (unless there's a safety reason) changes like these can ruin an experience (grand) dad had and wanted you to experience... Yes we need to go forward, update rides (systems) etc. but should also be vigilant it doesn't make it feel like a completely different park OMG starting to rant (too long), anyway hope the reskin (prob. isn't more than that) will be something everyone can live with and both GM and Disney actually listen to feedback of visitors/guests/costumers and don't force something stupid
Man can we get openings like Test Track 1.0 again? Holy cow I remember with Tiana’s Bayou, it opened and it wasn’t even a celebration it was just like: “woooo” (like literally nothing)
Test Track 2.0: You’re gonna ride a car that goes slower than you drive on the highway. Test Track 1.0: You’re a crash test dummy at the factory, and we’re gonna drive you into a wall. Psych!
I didn’t ride the 1.0 version, but it sounds like with such a wild-sounding premise, the ugly factory theming would have made it somewhat easier to suspend disbelief, and therefore more thrilling by the time the crash wall pulls away at the last second.
World of Motion was great. In my mind it was most comparable to Spaceship Earth. Very similar vibes, to the point that I would sometimes as a kid forget which of the rides certain scenes were in. I enjoyed it more than any version of Test Track.
As of now, I'd say that my favorite version of Test Track is 1.0 because it had a lot more theming. I felt like 2.0 was pretty cheap looking, though I agree with 2.0 fans that it fit in Epcot. Especially the sound track. Now for 3.0, I'm getting a good feeling about it. I like that they're calling back to World of Motion. Now I read somewhere in an article that the 3.0 version is going to be about the adventure behind driving, as well as the onboard technology. A little speculation here. I feel like the queue in 3.0 is going to call back to WOM the heaviest. You could get scenes depicting ones from WOM, but in the queue. The actual ride will be you experiencing a brand new car powered by technology, as you go on a road trip through various scenery. You may get multiple biomes and a city scene, sorta like you'd have in a car commercial. If my speculation holds true, I think this could be the best version of Test Track. Lets hope for physical sets, and less screens.
World of Motion was my favorite! I think Test Track 1.0 was far better than 2.0 because it told a story…a crash test dummy’s story. The one redeeming thing about 2.0 was the futuristic cityscape as you went through a turn coming out of the trees. This was a nod to the CenterCore portion of World of Motion, which was itself an homage to Walt’s “Progress City” model for EPCOT (as seen on the Peoplemover).
I loved TT 1.0. I am looking forward to TT3.0 cause 2.0 reminded me of Tron. They took out the heat and corrosion and in my opinion dumbed it down. A red light on a screen depicting a car over corrosion? PLEASE!!! I hope 3.0 will not let us down.
I was too young to really remember the queue for world of motion, I kind of feel like the line was about as fast as Spaceship Earth, but I did love the ride as a wee bab. I think of the three I like Testtrack 1.0 the best, because it was supposed to be a factory and it worked like one. I'm looking forward to see what 3.0 will bring, cos I wasn't a fan of building a car, and then it never working.
Test Track 1.0 had massive amounts of detail and theming. 2.0 replaced that with a lot of black painted plywood with stripes painted with black-light paint.
I was really hoping the outside portion would be enclosed so that way the ride didn't have to go down during bad weather, it's unfortunate to hear that the plans for that were cut. That said: Test Track 1.0 > Test Track 2.0. I never experienced World of Motion, but I'd probably put it in-between the two TTs.
I'm just glad they didnt slap on a Cars reskin for Test Track 3.0. It's fair to say there's been enough unnecessary rethemes in recent years. At least rides like Test Track, Living with the Land, and Spaceship Earth retain the original spirit of Epcot.
I remember that at world of motion and TT 1.0 was that you could sit in the show room cars, 2.0 and especially after Covid they no longer let people sit in any of the cars
I never knew about World of Motion. I personally lean towards Test Track 2.0 for having a better ride theme than just being a literal test track, whereas 1.0 was very clearly that with just a little Disney imagineering. Still, Disney going back to their roots for the attraction is a rare bit of positive news for the company.
My family loved 1.0. I loved the warehouse look. My most prominent memory was dropping a Nemo plush I have just gotten in a weird little nook in the queue. My dad have gotten down there saved it and hopped back up like a boss. The parents around us cheered. It sounds so fake when I type it out. When they changed the test track to 2.0 our family didn’t really like it. Not to mention the added wait time with making your own car. I don’t think I’ve been on 2.0 more than 3 times as a family who goes to Disney very often.
I think I'm in the weird middle ground where I loved 1.0 so much, but thought 2.0 was still pretty great. I think the 3rd version is going to be great too.
Hard to tell on World of Motion popularity. There was never a line, as capacity was huge, and crowds back then were not like they are today. It is still my second favorite ride all time after Horizons.
I was just looking at my dec 2012 trip pictures and totally forgot i was there on opening day for 2.0 i have a picture of the test track sign and stage behind it
as someone who grew up with v1.0, v2.0 came off as just utterly soulless. 1.0 had dirt, it felt lived-in. 2.0 was the extra features menu from a corporate training DVD.

I'm going to miss the TT2 soundtrack so much. I love the soundtrack
I would add that World of Motion was very popular for about 12 years and then the last time I went on it....there was no line. I don't know. I felt it was as great as Horizons, and I am a HUGE Horizons fan.
I loved the temperature parts in 1.0
Glad see you’re doing documentary and history videos now!
Epic video, one of my absolute favourite Disney rides, if not my favourite! Excited to see what the future has for Test Track 3.0 👌
13:54 YESSSSS Test Track 2.0 Supremacy!!!!
Faded take from both of you
Yo, you make the coolest videos, bro. Keep it up!!
THANNK YOU! I've always stood on my belief of 2.0 being the best version. It just felt right. Very excited for 3.0
I loved test track 1, I was 6 years old when I went the first time in 2001. Just blew my little mind. Also I loved the 90s style Epcot.
I like the Radiator Springs Racers version of the ride. Great video.
I honestly forget this ride exists
As a three year old I went on Magic Skyway and loved World of Motion as well as both Test Track versions, leaning towards version 2.0.
World of Motion was one of my favorite rides.
When I was a little kid, I was convinced they were going to slam the car into a wall and I was absolutely terrified.
Og test track will forever be the best version
Now put Horizons 2.0 in the wonders of life pavilion!
Disney always will have the same 2 problems:
A change in sponsorship can result in huge changes (especially if they don't want reminders to previous show/attraction and/or sponsor -if applicable)
The park(s) lean heavily on both nostalgia and futuristic views, balancing these is very hard... because time moves and people change...
The trick is how do you make people come back and go 'I remember that!' and still have go 'Oh, that's new!' while also not have them go 'I like the old one better...' (usually bit older repeat visitor) and/or hear them say 'God! This stuff is _sooooo_ outdated!' (usually the younger visitors, without previous experiences in the park)
And while stuff like The Castle(s) etc won't be torn down and rebuild anytime soon (unless there's a safety reason) changes like these can ruin an experience (grand) dad had and wanted you to experience... Yes we need to go forward, update rides (systems) etc. but should also be vigilant it doesn't make it feel like a completely different park
OMG starting to rant (too long), anyway hope the reskin (prob. isn't more than that) will be something everyone can live with and both GM and Disney actually listen to feedback of visitors/guests/costumers and don't force something stupid
I honestly had no idea it was being redone again
2:24 this might be a silly question, but is the Lego sea monster outside of the Lego store at Disney springs based off of this guy?
World of Motion fan second to horizons was my favorite attraction. it was funny and informative. If they can pull it off it may be great.
My mom rode the original Ford Magic Skyway at the 1964 New York World's fair when she was a kid with her grandmother.
Man can we get openings like Test Track 1.0 again? Holy cow
I remember with Tiana’s Bayou, it opened and it wasn’t even a celebration it was just like: “woooo” (like literally nothing)
24:27 looks like a simulation of a mountain/forest highway with the guardrail and foliage
During the 'Rona times we went on 2.0 and the queue sucked due to all the touch screens being shut down for safety
All I have to say is I want to hear It’s Fun to Be Free on 3.0
I was just looking at my dec 2012 trip pictures and totally forgot i was there on opening day for 2.0 i have a picture of the test track sign and stage behind it
Thought Epcots first thrill ride was “Body Wars.”
I watched this video at EPCOT!
I hope they have a version of “fun to be free” in the ride
I loved version 1. Version 3 should take place on a fake road through a city.
7? Yes 7
Can’t wait for Bob to screw up this new repaint of a ride that was better the first time around.
I loved 1.0, the queue was so much more fun and I loved the theming more
Simple... nothing was better than the original. With the song... It's fun to be free!
24:19 reminded me of the cybertruck
I wish if they aren't enclosing the final run, they at least put awnings over it, cause they have to shut down the ride whenever there is rain
8:16 It should’ve been Jessica
I like version 1.0 better because the truck test was more realistic and felt like it was coming at you and that you had narrowly avoided it.
I liked 1.0 as a kid but never got back to the US to do 2.0
Makes sense for GM to sponsor it. It allows them to put more brands in their besides Chevy. Like Cadillac, GMC etc..
