Bro, you really need an oscilloscope. If you don't want a big professional looking one, you can get smaller handheld types, or even Digital Multimeters that have an oscilloscope function, or if you want super duper cheap there are kit form ones from china for under $30. The multimeter ones are OK, my biggest gripe is their slow update rate, only 2 maybe 3 updates per second. Anyway, the reason you do is to watch the amps output for distortion and then clipping. I never trust those clip lights, I have a vid on my channel showing how far out my Stetsom 8K clip light is out by. The output is square as hell before the light comes on. You will also find the oscilloscope handy for amps that don't have a clip light at all, and times where that distortion light doesn't come on with that little blue SMD dyno because you can watch the wave increase and then start to distort and look crappy before it begins to square off. It's a must have tool, even for a mechanic, we are lucky to have them super available and cheap these days
