Lol the joker isn't insane that's his greatest secret. He's actually "super sane" he's written as a character who's aware that he's a character in a comic book. He knows that nothing he does really matters and the reason he laughs at Batman is because Batman takes himself seriously thinking he's fighting crime when in fact he's just another character, and because the joker knows that no matter what he does he won't actually die for good or get the death penalty but Batman who's supposed to be the world's smartest detective can't figure it out hence why the joker laughs=The killing joke.

I hated Jeff John's three joker story. The idea of Batman figuring out the joker identity one week after he first met him really loves me the wrong way it destroys the very thing that makes the joker. The thing about the joker with Batman is out of all of Batman detective skills he cannot figure out who the joker is background or personal identity. This is why i like the red hood storyline. The joker kills the original Red Hood and take over his identity several months even to one year before falling into the vats of chemicals.

Guys Joker tells three origins because the cops interviewed three different Jokers. that's the reason why he thinks he has multiple origins. And remember there are officially three Jokers. One of the mobs even say it is given to chosen people of their gang. Batman even recognizes him. And remember that Joker has three separate origins. The first one was when he tried to escape the facility. The second is when he tripped. The third is when he just wanted to end his life expecting himself to get burned up in flames (because Ace chemicals exploded) and notice each origin has a year. The first was when Ace chemicals was a new place in Gotham. The second is when Ace chemicals is basically getting old. The last is when it gets destroyed. What this long comment means is that these origins were the reason why Joker said multiple different versions.

The SNES Man It’s really pretty bad, though the story itself is okay otherwise. Basically it’s that the man who would become the Joker was the leader of the “Red Hood Gang” and was basically a thief/domestic terrorist before getting into a fight with Batman at the chemical plant.
He acted a lot like the Joker from Nolan’s Dark Knight and becoming the Joker only changed his appearance not his already crazy mindset.

Well, the best thing about this story is that we see/read this WHOLE backstory in the comic or film---and we start feeling sorry for the Joker to a point---and then he tells Batman the truth:
"Something like that happened to me, you know. I... I'm not exactly sure what it was. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice! Ha ha ha!"
The truth is terrifying: we don't know if ANYTHING we just saw actually happened, or if this is merely the latest way he has reinvented his past...
In the end, who the Joker WAS is irrelevant. What he became is all that matters.

I like Joker's Killing Joke origin, because it shows that he wasn't always the Joker; just something drove him over the edge, and he never recovered, probably a combination of things, really, terrible childhood, loss of the only family who loved him, and brain damage from the chemical bath. I can buy that that combo created a man who no longer wanted to live, and to get people to kill him, he started committing heinous acts. I can also buy that brain damage from the chemical spill gave him sort of a psychosis.

  • @BondFreek

The thing about The Joker Is he is consoling remembering his life differently. This is just one of many different ways he remembers his life before he was the Joker. But he admits that he remembers it differently each time, or that he doesn't remember it at all, depending on the day.
The stories in the movies, comics and animated series are all offered differently - but all alude to a tragic past.

I think that’s also why the joker doesn’t really fear death or get attached to anyone ( harly is questionable)
Also: what if “ you wanna know how I got these scars?” Is also referring to his mental state
After all..... ( feels ahead maybe )
