Lol I think that likely has something to do with studio higher ups. In the west, any show marketed towards children has strict rules and higher ups will demand the weirdest crap in order for it to be deemed safe for kids. I had a teacher that storyboarded for a kids cartoon and at one point the character phased through a glass window and producers demanded he change it. Even if it seemed out of character, wouldn’t be surprised if they made them include a seatbelt scene
Thing is like JLU was such a gem of making all these side character beside the original league member so damn interesting. I watch full shows of question and huntress, GA and BC, batman and wonderwoman and so many random combo of character in that show.

It was a gamechanger when they added eyes detail to the Huntress. Earlier appearances they were just white, but then she was just a backdrop of team members. I love how her shadow is like Batman's silhouette.
Early designs were still in flux. Artists were still figuring out how they wanted to draw each character but needed them in backgrounds for earlier episodes.
It just hit me: Green Arrow: "Why are you doing this, Question?" Question: "You wouldn't believe me if I told you" Question (thinking): I think she's cute

Some interesting things I've noticed: - The train moment was not reckless but calculated. They're in a tunnel, breaking and going in reverse would take too much time, there's not enough room for turning around and the side tunnel is right there. The only option was to step on it and hope you'll make it. - This seems to be a theme with those two. They both consider attacking the best method of defence. - Seems like The Question wanted to show Huntress that he's awesome as a person and a hero before she could see what's under the mask. "Ugliest guy" hit him hard because he agreed with it, but when she saw him maskless she didn't. - Flexing your vintage mustang on a lady then offering her to drive is an absolute power move and Question really did his homework since he new Huntress is the type of girl to be really into it.

If they made a show specifically for Question that had him just solving half-assed conspiracy theories about random claims and companies (like what they put in a McDonalds burger patty or whether or not 5G towers actually make you sick) I would unironically binge that show in it's entirety
They could have a standard setup where the obviously dumb conspiracies are quickly proven untrue, but in the process Question stumbles upon something bigger.
And while the big heros are off fighting the Tofu Demigorgon of Terror outside he's in the building interogating hapless fast food managers why they allied with a race of flesh eating parasites. Until the real-real plot kicks off (Also Superman slammed the Nufu beast into a solar panel farm to boil all the water out of the baddie)
Then where she stashes the drive is literally either he'll have to work to get it back or she'll have to give it to him. He knew what he was doing, and I'd bet the implication is that she picked up on his game and played along. Just like everyone else has said, beautiful attention to detail, especially on the subtle hints at just how deeply these characters get each other and can play off the other, it makes it feel like a real relationship.

A 20 minute episode from a kid's show about superheroes that can't even say the word "sex" writes a better, funnier, and more mature romance between a conspiracy theorist and a vigilante than 95% of romantic comedies.
I think the fact that they can't be outright with the adult stuff is what forces them to be creative and find different ways of portrayals which is what ends up making the relationships so interesting and dynamic
They say that limitations can breed creativity and the team also seemed to take certain things as a challenge. When discussing a scene involving wonder womans...assets apparently hte people in charge of defending the scenes from censors said "We shall protect the cleavage with our lives!"

Yup, DC Justice League 2003 and 2005 snuck in a LOT of jokes. I didn't notice until I re-watched it when I was older. 😂 I even found a racist joke in there one time. It was VERY well hidden though

Something racist was said to John Stewart, the Green Lantern in the series. They said something like, "You're okay for your kind." It might have one of the episode where they go to the past.
Q moving over to let Huntress drive when he pulls up immediately cemented their relationship for me. It shows such a depth to their relationship within the first few scenes that it’s almost uncanny: It just shows that you can make previously unknown heroes into beloved characters with the right writing.
It was also symbolic of him deciding to let her into his life. Not an easy thing to do for a crazy paranoid detective who thinks everyone's out to get him and is correct all too often.

Q knows what she is like so him offering the drivers seat cements their relationship. I suggest you go rewatch the justice league series.

I liked this pairing more than others, they just clicked in a natural way that just seemed right. Not forced by bad writing , it was not cringe or awkward. This is my ship.
I feel pretty confident in assuming that Vic Sage hadn't had much romantic experience (and probably not much of a social life in general) prior to falling for Helena. Ergo, he wasn't sure what was going on. That's what makes Helena the right woman for him--she can get him to take a break from all the conspiracy theories (which he clearly needs very badly).

I recognised it the moment I heard Question speak. It gave me pause, and I did a quick search on BehindTheVoices...voila. My suspicions were correct, he did have the same voice actor as Transformers: Prime Rachet. I thought their voices were almost identical.

You COULD write this up as an animation error for anyone else, except it is the Question we are talking about. He let her take a drive so he could indulge in her date wants and need to be in control. The Question has got game.

It’s an animation error since there’s nothing to follow up on the fact that he pulled one card from his side pocket to another, something’s not “deep” just because a character is known for being paranoid and misdirecting people. That doesn’t mean EVERYTHING that he does has a purpose. You don’t need to have “strong evidence” to chalk something up as an animation error when it’s clearly a mistake by the animators, animation errors happen ALL the time as you can find them constantly in shows with a lot of details, so saying “wItH lESs EvIdEnCe” is just plain embarrassing to see someone see here as a simple mistake doesn’t need “strong evidence”, it can be notified on the spot on a animated project. Animation errors aren’t a big deal but acting like it’s something deeper here when it’s clearly not followed through isn’t helping what you say here.
The thing you have to love about Justice League Unlimited was that they showed you characters that you rarely ever saw in comics, or that they had a limited run. Crimson Fox was an interesting cameo
I just wish there were more episodes with Zatanna staring in them other than just one episode. She's an underrated character that sadly didn't get as many episodes when compared to Supergirl, Green Arrow, Black Canary or Vixen.

The man took a beating off GREEN ARROW. I can absolutely see Black Canary beating Huntress, but Q learned to fight from some of the people who trained Batman - he should be able to handle Green Arrow hand-to-hand. Bro took a hittin' because he was smitten.
Superman, being smart, quick thinking, and kind in that little dialogue when looking for Question's body. "Not here you won't; they wouldn't have bothered to dump his comlink unless they took him alive." "~~We'll never find him...." "Sure we will!" - all stoic and confident. Even Superman's dialogue here is excellent to the character even briefly. JLU was fucking AMAZING.
It's both the confidence he necessarily must exude as the leader of the Justice League, a moment mirrored when he claims Captain Atom back for the League from the government- AND it's a good reference to where his head was at at the time. He's usually pretty amenable and jovial and almost carefree without ever not caring deeply about everything, but when there's a grudge or a score to settle, he becomes a different man. His tone (Newbern's delivery) was almost cocky and headstrong here- this isn't the calm collected leader of the Justice League, this is a man who's been played for a fool and wants to get his own back.

It's on full display when he has to interact with Darkseid or Braniac and sometimes Luthor but he still gives Luthor a little leeway because his humanity makes him both much weaker than Clark and more redeemable than Darkseid or Braniac
True story: Amy Acker/ Huntress and Morena Baccaran/ Black Canary were both Joss Whedon Alum from ANGEL and FIREFLY respectively. This was their first collaboration together.
These two were one of those couples that no one ever expected to get together and for it to work, but it did and became one of the best parts of the show.
See, The Question is a man that inspires hope in me. Because if a man with no face can bag a baddie like Huntress, that means there's hope for us all, guys. Stay strong, brothers.
They really are an underrated couple. I became a big fan of the Question from this show too. It’s a shame Question and Huntress’s relationship isn’t very fleshed out in the comics. They were together briefly but it wasn’t nearly as good as in the show.

I didn’t see Q display any particularly un-objectivist behavior or thinking here. The JLU writers gave him a sharp wit and an ironic penchant for occasional self-amusement (such as when he broke into a (Cadmus?) building with a potted plant while singing a boy-band tune)… but I don’t regard that as un-objectivist.
To be fair, he chilled the hell out decades ago once he became an actual DC character, stopped being written by Steve Ditko, and did some personal growth. Sometimes he returns to his roots in various alt continuities but mostly he's extremely weird in other ways.

I already loved the Question from the comics, but damn if Jeffrey Combs didn't slaughter it in the role! Props as well to Gail Simone for writing one of the best versions of the character in any medium.
Honestly to this day, I'm still amazed at how they were able to make Huntress and Question work in a romantic setting like this. Whoever wrote for these two was really creative and clearly wanted to experiment with something nobody even considered a possibility at the time. A shame we don't have unique stuff like this these days.
I mean... If you think about it JLU is Full of unespected ships! Like Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. The writers know how to experiment with the already build up characters
It was Gail Simone who set it up. She wrote the Birds of Prey comic and was the writer who after they paralysed Barbara Gordon was like "Hell no are you just going to leave her like this and replace her with a rotating list of new Batgirls... I'll make her the woman in the chair!"

I like when he says “that is the question” because it can kinda have a double meaning On the one hand it’s obviously a witty rebuttal, but on the other, it could be him saying that he does good things for others because that’s just what he does, or who he is. Doing good things is what the Question does. That is the Question. I’m reading way too deep into it but it’s a bit of a cool implication so yeah
You could read even deeper into it and point out that it's the second line in Hamlet's "To be or not to be" soliloquy. Likely about the determinism of his next action.
I think that's what I(and the audience) love so much about this version of the character. Beneath all the inane theories and endless questions, the hardboiled voice and overcoat- lies a genuinely good man. One who wouldn't dare let anyone hurt a child, or murder a man in cold blood.
If I remember correctly, the Question's first ever comic has him beating the hell out of a bunch of thugs, then running onto his TV time slot to tell his city how those exact same thugs just got their asses beat even when his face was all bruised from the fight. Question is definitely every man's hero.
This video cuts out a few seconds where Huntress looks at Starman and Stargirl in a way that suggests she was upset about being expelled from the Justice League because she had an unfulfilled desire to find somebody to love. When she grabs Question by the tie later on, the look on her face all but says “I have found my lover.” (5:10 freeze frame)
Why would stargirl and starman show that? Stargirl is a teenager and starman is an adult who is never even in this show... Her stepfather stripe is the robot that she was always with tho.
@@jaer2354 It seems like they took some liberties with this animated adaptation when it came to implied age. Their joint appearance in this episode is just a cameo besides. And it's not true that Starman isn't on JLU, even though all of his appearances are minor.
@@jaer2354 Also, while it’s clear from their body language that Starman and Stargirl are enjoying each others’ company, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are lovers. They could be just good friends. This ambiguity works well in the scene.
Star man and Star girl aren’t in a relationship, Sylvester is a mentor to Courtney, he’s the one, depending on the canon who gives her the cosmic staff and trains her how to use it. I also don’t think Pat (Courtney’s stepdad) who was a sidekick to Starman and is STRIPE in the show would allow it considering he’s overbearing to her character in the show anyways.

AH HA!! As I suspected.
Some interesting things I've noticed:
- The train moment was not reckless but calculated. They're in a tunnel, breaking and going in reverse would take too much time, there's not enough room for turning around and the side tunnel is right there. The only option was to step on it and hope you'll make it.
- This seems to be a theme with those two. They both consider attacking the best method of defence.
- Seems like The Question wanted to show Huntress that he's awesome as a person and a hero before she could see what's under the mask. "Ugliest guy" hit him hard because he agreed with it, but when she saw him maskless she didn't.
- Flexing your vintage mustang on a lady then offering her to drive is an absolute power move and Question really did his homework since he new Huntress is the type of girl to be really into it.

Then where she stashes the drive is literally either he'll have to work to get it back or she'll have to give it to him. He knew what he was doing, and I'd bet the implication is that she picked up on his game and played along. Just like everyone else has said, beautiful attention to detail, especially on the subtle hints at just how deeply these characters get each other and can play off the other, it makes it feel like a real relationship.
She just wanted him to take a break from hacking and spend time with her. He agreed to the terms and agreements in his own way, both satisfied.

A 20 minute episode from a kid's show about superheroes that can't even say the word "sex" writes a better, funnier, and more mature romance between a conspiracy theorist and a vigilante than 95% of romantic comedies.
I think the fact that they can't be outright with the adult stuff is what forces them to be creative and find different ways of portrayals which is what ends up making the relationships so interesting and dynamic
They say that limitations can breed creativity and the team also seemed to take certain things as a challenge. When discussing a scene involving wonder womans...assets apparently hte people in charge of defending the scenes from censors said "We shall protect the cleavage with our lives!"

Q moving over to let Huntress drive when he pulls up immediately cemented their relationship for me.
It shows such a depth to their relationship within the first few scenes that it’s almost uncanny:
It just shows that you can make previously unknown heroes into beloved characters with the right writing.
It was also symbolic of him deciding to let her into his life. Not an easy thing to do for a crazy paranoid detective who thinks everyone's out to get him and is correct all too often.
That was the most important moment from a writing standpoint. Agreed.

I feel pretty confident in assuming that Vic Sage hadn't had much romantic experience (and probably not much of a social life in general) prior to falling for Helena. Even Superman's dialogue here is excellent to the character even briefly. JLU was fucking AMAZING.
It's both the confidence he necessarily must exude as the leader of the Justice League, a moment mirrored when he claims Captain Atom back for the League from the government- AND it's a good reference to where his head was at at the time. He's usually pretty amenable and jovial and almost carefree without ever not caring deeply about everything, but when there's a grudge or a score to settle, he becomes a different man. His tone (Newbern's delivery) was almost cocky and headstrong here- this isn't the calm collected leader of the Justice League, this is a man who's been played for a fool and wants to get his own back.

They really are an underrated couple. I became a big fan of the Question from this show too. It’s a shame Question and Huntress’s relationship isn’t very fleshed out in the comics. They were together briefly but it wasn’t nearly as good as in the show.

This version of the Question is so fantastic. It’s hard to imagine his comic counterpart is an objectivist.
I didn’t see Q display any particularly un-objectivist behavior or thinking here. The JLU writers gave him a sharp wit and an ironic penchant for occasional self-amusement (such as when he broke into a (Cadmus?) building with a potted plant while singing a boy-band tune)… but I don’t regard that as un-objectivist.
To be fair, he chilled the hell out decades ago once he became an actual DC character, stopped being written by Steve Ditko, and did some personal growth. Sometimes he returns to his roots in various alt continuities but mostly he's extremely weird in other ways.

I already loved the Question from the comics, but damn if Jeffrey Combs didn't slaughter it in the role! Props as well to Gail Simone for writing one of the best versions of the character in any medium.
I wish they'd kept JLU going, if for no other reason than for more Question and Huntress

Honestly to this day, I'm still amazed at how they were able to make Huntress and Question work in a romantic setting like this.
Whoever wrote for these two was really creative and clearly wanted to experiment with something nobody even considered a possibility at the time.
A shame we don't have unique stuff like this these days.

It was Gail Simone who set it up. She wrote the Birds of Prey comic and was the writer who after they paralysed Barbara Gordon was like "Hell no are you just going to leave her like this and replace her with a rotating list of new Batgirls... I'll make her the woman in the chair!"

I like when he says “that is the question” because it can kinda have a double meaning
On the one hand it’s obviously a witty rebuttal, but on the other, it could be him saying that he does good things for others because that’s just what he does, or who he is. Doing good things is what the Question does. That is the Question.

You could read even deeper into it and point out that it's the second line in Hamlet's "To be or not to be" soliloquy. Likely about the determinism of his next action.

I think that's what I(and the audience) love so much about this version of the character. Beneath all the inane theories and endless questions, the hardboiled voice and overcoat- lies a genuinely good man. One who wouldn't dare let anyone hurt a child, or murder a man in cold blood.

If I remember correctly, the Question's first ever comic has him beating the hell out of a bunch of thugs, then running onto his TV time slot to tell his city how those exact same thugs just got their asses beat even when his face was all bruised from the fight. Question is definitely every man's hero.

This video cuts out a few seconds where Huntress looks at Starman and Stargirl in a way that suggests she was upset about being expelled from the Justice League because she had an unfulfilled desire to find somebody to love. When she grabs Question by the tie later on, the look on her face all but says “I have found my lover.” (5:10 freeze frame)
Why would stargirl and starman show that? Stargirl is a teenager and starman is an adult who is never even in this show... Her stepfather stripe is the robot that she was always with tho.
@@jaer2354 It seems like they took some liberties with this animated adaptation when it came to implied age. Their joint appearance in this episode is just a cameo besides. And it's not true that Starman isn't on JLU, even though all of his appearances are minor.
@@jaer2354 Also, while it’s clear from their body language that Starman and Stargirl are enjoying each others’ company, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are lovers. They could be just good friends. This ambiguity works well in the scene.
Star man and Star girl aren’t in a relationship, Sylvester is a mentor to Courtney, he’s the one, depending on the canon who gives her the cosmic staff and trains her how to use it. I also don’t think Pat (Courtney’s stepdad) who was a sidekick to Starman and is STRIPE in the show would allow it considering he’s overbearing to her character in the show anyways.

But the expression on Huntress’s face after observing them walking together implies that she’s reminded of her own romantic loneliness.

@@apieceoftoast768nah they didn’t flesh them out nearly as much as they could’ve. For the best because technically in this universe Batman is married to Talia. Wonder Woman being the hopeless romantic fits her character as being a intimidating demigod den mother type figure to the league.
I love how the question is simultaneously deranged and collected.
I loved how they wrote both of them the episodes they had together especially when Question found out about the Justice Lords that was so good!
