      As someone who has experienced emotional trauma, and I haven’t even had it as worse as a lot of people out there, I can confirm this. A lot of times you don’t want to directly seek out the memory, yet you so desperately want to get it out of you. At the same time also, you don’t want to take away the intricate coping mechanisms you have developed over the years, which just so happened to be extremely dysfunctional. Thing is though, the reason why you’re scared to change from this, is because your nervous system might have an inkling of an idea that it’s dysfunctional, but since it knows nothing else, it’s simply not permitting you to just open up and let all that go and find other coping mechanisms besides insanity.

    People forget that the Joker doesn’t even know his own childhood. It’s such a blur to him because his madness is beyond repair. Even in this show when he does go sane, the Joker is still in there and the memories he has aren’t real.
    Joker has done this over and over again in order to keep people in line. He’s tried this on Batman too, and the fact that he can’t make Batman crack is why he’s obsessed with him.
    The joker is the king of lying and manipulation. Harley was one of the most tragic results of that.

      I dunno, he's oddly wholesome with his wife and stepkids later on in the series. Still the Joker, but the refreshing part is he breaks free of the tired old archetype the comics, movies and other cartoons have established about him. Yes, we know he's crazy. Yes, we know he's inane and unpredictable and murderous and yadda yadda yadda... what sets this series apart for me is certain parts are super slice of life, mixed with dark comedy and action. For the first season yeah he's totally the regular Joker doing regular Joker things, but even he says he's gotten tired of it and ends up breaking free of the mould.

    • @ghostlee0
      @ghostlee0 Год назад +32

      @@ershnuff difference with his current family is that he met them after he became sane. I’m pretty sure he kept his memories from being an average dude, and he could recognize he was genuinely happy with them, and actually has a bond. But that’s cos he made those bonds while normal. If he had met them as the Joker, he probably would’ve just ignored them or killed them.

    The funny thing is Joker’s backstory doesn’t matter. He’s not a person, he’s a character that he’ll play until the day he dies. The mistake Harley…ahem, Dr. Quinzell makes is that she believes in the person that’s not there. Joker is just that, a joke, and trying to read more into him than that is the trap he sets. The only reason he changes later is that he gets to live as a person again and learns to be a three-dimensional character, the Joker, a husband and father.

    Fun fact:
    Even the Joker doesn't know his backstory is. Even the famous "Killing Joke" story (the storie with Jack Napier, the failed comidien and the fall into the acid-pitt) is only the Version, that is the most dominant in his head.

    While the joker could be lying about his childhood, he might not be trying to lie. “Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice.” One thing that remains consistent with his childhood stories in every Batman series that’s worth noting is that his father was abusive. He just doesn’t remember why his father abused him as a child. Every instance I can think of where he talks about his abusive father is the new Batman animated series, the dark knight, Gotham, the Harley Quinn animated series, and the joker movie.
