I’d like the switch on the esc. Makes for cleaner build!
Can't agree more!
Put the bind / calibration button in the case. Then we could chose to leave the external power switch attached, or just cut it off and tie the wires together like we do on Tekin RX-8s. IMHO the best power switch is no power switch. It can't fail if it isn't there.
They either need to put the switch on the esc (best option) or give us a longer power button cord so we have more options on placement. If they gave us an extra inch maybe 2 of wire then it could be run to the other side of the chassis behind the battery on most models.
Tape it to the esc. Problem solved
This is by far the best combo for 1/8 scale racing
I can't agree more!
You can always stick the on/off switch on the esc. It's good that they give you the option on where to put it, Rich.
Yep, but the XR10 Pro is so clean with the integrated button
Depends on the vehicle. There is not enough room around the esc to do that on a lot of vehicles.
yeah I wish the XR8 gave you the option like the XR10 Pro does. if has the button but they also give you a lead you can use if you want to use the separate switch. my XR8 Pro in my Tekno EB48 2.0...I really dont have a good spot to put the switch as the cable is just a tad too short.
I’d like to se it in the Losi 8xe your awesome rich been watching you for years and you got me into racing with the scte1.0 years ago
Thanks for watching! Dang, the SCTE was so long ago!
🔥🔥🔥
I have this combo in my freshly built EB48 2.0 and absolutely love it. Build quality is outstanding and the esc fan seems to be lasting longer than the ones on the XR10 pro. I like the separate on/off switch in case the one on the esc gets too much dirt in it. Great vid as always!
Hey david, this is your buddy Marcos... jajaja we are here together lol... u sold me on this setup
@@Daddy9bot Hurry up and build that ET buddy..you're gonna love it.
The option of either the On/Off Switch on the ESC or the plug in type On/Off Switch which they had on the XR10 Pro would of been a cleaner option imo
I agree!
Got a Gen2 XR8 Pro in January for my Losi LMT, and a couple months later they release a Gen3... oh well, that's life I guess
Yeah, that does happen.....Thanks for stopping by!
I like the external switch. It makes it possible to turn the system on or off with the body on the car. This is a nice feature when you are in a hurry to get to the drivers stand and after the race as well.
very true
Welcome back I really don't care about the switch It looks like good quality set up
Thanks for watching, buddy!
A removable switch would be the best of both worlds. I like having a switch personally, I run the SCT version....When my SCT and buggy heats run back to back I like to hit the switch and get back on the stand.
I'm a fan of the switch...just on the unit
Still can't beat the plus nowadays for 6s!
I like the switch on the ESC.
yeah, it's great ESC...just very large footprint and I'm not fond of the solder points (where they are) having 2 on one side and 3 on the other....and being asymmetrical (my OCD kicks in)
Gotcha!
Yeah getting rid of 6S was a mistake, lower temps and higher efficiency. Archaic US racing regulations are the only reason 1/8 is still on 4S. XR8 PLUS ftw.
Nice! Great review. I would love the switch in the esc
Thanks for tuning in....yeah, I'd love it if they got rid of the corded switch
Very nice now hobby wing hurry up and get some generation three 1/5 and 1/6 scale stuff. I want to see a new max five and I would love to see a new 1100 KV motor with around a 112 mm can
Time will tell.....Not sure there's much to update on those
@@TheRCNetwork I just wish they would add a motor temperature sensor to the ESC. They already have the port on the loader and I would really like to see some really large censored systems out of hobby wing
Rich, we need more OCRC footage!
Yeah, I need to make it back out there
HB e-819rs as the space in that chassis is limited. To get a good idea of layout and footprint would be really useful. Thanks for the first box opening review.
Thanks for watching Howie. This should fit in the HB with no problem....I had the HW XR8 Plus in the 819 with no issue
I don't love the switch and extra wires but I'm considering going w this for my et48 2.0 . Great video as always 👍🏽
It's a great ESC, BTW!
I like the wired switch, the esc mounted ones I have had all went bad early in the life of it.
I've had a couple of Traxxas on board switches fail.....but none of the XR10's
Considering getting this combo for a custom 1:7 rwd drift build. Just with the 2800kv on-road motor instead. Sadly there ain't many reviews on those. So it's hard to tell whether it'll work. Should make for a fun experiment though.
It should do quite well. Drifters don't have a lot of torque requirements like off-road RC's
What do you think for Tekno Et48.2.
Looks like a smooth racing combo. Don’t need 6-s because that would defeat the purpose of a racing truggy. Lightweight equals agility and control witch equals faster lap times.
I'd find the 4274 for the ET though....you'll need that extra torque for the extra weight of the ET
@@TheRCNetwork amain has a combo on the 4268 1900 or 2000 kv motor with the xr8 pro for 289$. If I get the esc separately with 4274 it’s 360$ what would you do.
No size comparison of this one compared to the previous XR8Plus ESC... new one looks smaller?
Sorry, I didn't have an XR8 Plus on hand for comparison....the XR8 Pro is smaller, about the same size as the RX8 from Tekin and just slightly wider than the XR8 SCT Pro.
I like the power switch on a wire, it is easier to hide in a convenient place.
Yeah, sometimes, I sit there for like 30 minutes though trying to find the ideal spot that it would go into the driveline, be against heat, etc.
It's a nice looking ESC! I must say that I don't understand the amperage rating at all. 200amp but only 4s max 🤷♂️ I have 2 XR8 plus ESC's and they are excellent on 6s with only a 150amp rating. I vote for the ESC switch on the ESC, much cleaner look. I vote for you to put this power system in your Tekno EB48.4 💪
Thanks buddy! yeah, I'm baffled at the amperage rating....but I've never actually dove into the electrical engineering portion of these things.....I just like to install them and press go! Not sure what this will end up in....I have a couple of choices though
Thank you Rich!
Thanks for watching, Mark!
🤔 Questions: 1️⃣ Which Rc should this go in? 2️⃣ Should the Power switch be built into the ESC? 3️⃣ Will HOBBYWING make a new model for 2s-6s? Maybe the XR8 Pro Max?
An LMT that's what I'm putting it in💪👍
@@franku211rc 1900KV the right choice for the LMT?
Very informative review Rich, only 4s huh so maybe my all metal 2.2 wraith bouncer, I like having a wire switch, I'd like to see a 6s combo for when my Krayton needs a transplant lol 😎👍
Thanks Tim! not sure if we will see a fully sensored 6s ESC update from HW
I've had to use contact cleaner on the internal switch on an XR10, t ok get the switch working again... when it wasn't working you could wiggle the front tires from side to side quickly, and the small amount of power the servo made from that would turn it on... I'm OK with the separate switch, BUT it should be removable/replaceable with an always on condition whenever it's not present.... the lead for the Rx should be removable as well... i w p.o uldnt he surprised if they keep the others, or at least the budget SCT model, and also wouldn't be surprised if they make a new basher ESC for more than 4S...this is clearly aimed at 1:8 scale racing mainly....with any other 3-4S use as possible, but not necessarily meant for bashers....
Thanks fornthe video...
Great insight - yeah, that's the down fall of a integrated on board switch....dust and debris can get inside. I also agree on the always on failsafe for the switch if detached.....I do wish the receiver lead was detachable - it would make photos easier too! lol
2 wheel &4x4 slash
Mine is the plus also 200 amp I got with the 2250kv motor. Have you heard they are catching fire? I’ve hearing some rumors
The XR8 Plus came out a few years ago, has a XL footprint and it 2-6s capable. It's had issues in the past with just either not working or a short life. I haven't heard catching on fire....that's usually due to poor installation/maintenance.
Hi bud I was hoping you kept the hood hinges from your 1.9 Wraith cause I lost one and I'm having a hard time finding them even on the Axial site the AX number and the parts tree number I've tried both on the Axial site and it says that item can't be found according to the owners manual the hinges come on the grille set
Hey Fernando - I'll try and remember tonight when I get to my shop....I checked the manual, and it's part of the body set as a replacement part (which sucks) www.horizonhobby.com/product/clear-body-and-interior-set-wraith-1.9/AXI230001.html
@@TheRCNetwork the manual says it's part of the grille set I went on Axial entered the number and it said it's incorrect I don't get it I even tried the parts tree number
Omg yeah your right the grille set comes with the body why can't you buy the grille set separately that stinks I don't need the body just the grille set that the hinges are on lol
@@TheRCNetwork hi bud did you ever happen to find those hinges Bulletproof RC sent me a set in the mail over a week ago but I think they got lost in the mail Friday will make 2 weeks that he mailed them
Put it in the Tekno! 😁🍻
It's going in a new TLR 8ight XE Elite.....
@@TheRCNetwork nice! Tempting to get that one or tekno.. still not sure yet 😁 have you ever tried the mp9e evo 2.0 RTR?
I'm not a fan of the Kyoshos......Mostly because of the premium they set on all of their race kits and the really old designs. The EB48 2.0 is pretty nice....without driving the 8ight yet, I'd side with the Tekno
@@TheRCNetwork Awesome! Glad you said that because I'm really liking the look and price of the Tekno! Cheers mate! Great informative videos too! Really helping me decide on the electrics to go with as well! 🍻
I ordered this in 4300kv, but I never received it, got "lost" in the mail, got a refund, ordered it again, there was an error somewhere, got another refund, i ordered it again today.. Wish me luck lol. Its like they know what I want to do with it, the build I'm doing is going to be a beast. I'm putting it in a 1/14 scale
Wow, tough luck on that...but good luck on getting the final one.....not sure I would put that in a 1/14th scale, you'll likely destroy anything connected to the motor
How would this hold up if bashing in yard on wet grass or accidentally running across the ol mud puddle near the driveway? I've got the last model and am scared to death of getting it splashed on
Get the waterproof max8
It’s a sensored race system....I would risk getting it wet or even damp. The EZRun series is what you’re after for WP.....but they’re all sensorless.
Hi . I’m the one if your subscribers and new in electric RC.I purchase a Mohave roller and I’m looking for your opinion witch one from those two, should I purchase for mai Mojave. Thank you in advance for your answer !
I'd probably get the Max6 Combo with the 1650kv motor - I just posted a video today on installing it
@@TheRCNetwork - Thank you !! I didn’t expect to get the answer so fast . This is a big plus, answering to the ...YOU will build faster your subscribers and followers. Bravissimo! All the best from Arizona.
Can you do a club race video at OC RC
I need to.....been a while since I've been there
@@TheRCNetwork Better hurry before they close at the end of the year :)
What do yous think about putting this combo in a tekno 410.3 sct?
You can....and the SCT410.3 can take it, but I believe you'll need a motor plate (not the whole mount) out of a EB48.4 or similar
Do you think this would work well in a modified Traxxas Maxx? I have added a bunch of weight (a couple lbs at least) in aluminum upgrades and am having cogging and overheating issues. Going to gear down but also looking at this. Already burned up my max 8 2200kv combo before I realized what I did :(
I think it's the ideal combo! Double check the motor diameter, but it should be a nice upgrade
I’m trying to figure out can you rpm be adjusted to lower amount below the max rpm?
You should be able to deal with this on the app via bluetooth connector
Will there be another vid on how they performed ?
Yep - I have an upcoming build series for a new 1/8th scale buggy these will be installed in. Stay tuned!
@@TheRCNetwork - will you be comparing it to the g2 motor ?
Damn it Rich, alway trying to make me spend money
Sorry buddy! just showing cool stuff!
Hello there.
Is the 2200kv a faster kit than the 1900kv in the hobbywing g3 pro combo.
And anyone's thoughts on the team Xrays 22 spec xb8e and the xt8e. Are they more durable than mugen seiki mbx8r eco and truggy. Cheers 🍻
Yes, 2200kv is a faster (top end speed) motor than a 1900kv. The 1900kv is really the sweet spot for most 1/8th scale buggies, as it has the torque needed on 4s. I would look at parts for those two buggies. For me, the Xray stuff is hard to find in CA vs. Mugen. I'd give Mugen the bump on more durable.....but Tekno is likely the most durable
@@TheRCNetwork thank you mate. Love your channels. Would love to see a new mugen build by you, and the new X-rays. Legend , cheers 🍻
What's the difference between sensored and not sensored??
Sensored has an extra wire going from the motor to the ESC telling the ESC exactly where the rotor on the motor is, during start up....giving the motor a much smoother feel at lower RPMs....most sensorless systems are plagued by "cogging" where at low RPMs the rotor hesitates and will rock back and forth before it engages throttle or reverse. Sensored also run more efficient, typically cooler (if geared right) and are not waterproof (usually...there are some exceptions though)
Will these new G3 motors work with Xr8 sct esc?
Yep, all day!
Hey guys I've got a tlr typhoon just wondering what is the best 4s combo money could get rn after reading a few comments doesnt look like its a good esc so im after a best esc and motor combo cheers.
There's always haters out there.....for the XR8 pro, is has been because it will not run on 6s. Typical racing platforms only allow 4s, so with the XR8 pro being a race ESC, there was no point in 6s. I'd still pick this ESC over anything on the market. The Tekin RX8 is close, but I've switch all over to the XR8 Pro now
I have this combo in my EB48 2.0 and it is amazing. My friends who have tekin electronics always have issues...but to each their own I guess!
@@TheRCNetwork What do you think about the performa pro lvl esc like Ronnefalk use?
I've had 2 of those xr8 pro esc's paired with G3 2600kv motor and I really liked it, I started messing with motor timing and damaged them. By the way the xr8 pro was in a Arrma Typhon , gearing was 50t/14t pinion and top speed was 84 mph on 6s
Do you know the name of the fan connector that is used on this unit?
I do not...but the link in the video will have the direct HW website with replacement parts if that helps
Great video. I was considering this set up for the new Xray XT8E 22” truggy, but I don’t like that this esc is only capable of 4S, incase I want to go to 6S at some point. What other motor esc combo would you recommend? I have a Castle Creations Mamba motor esc combo in my RC8.2e. It had tremendous power and has been bullet proof for 7 years. I think I’ll need a little more power out of a motor for the truggy? Thoughts ? Thanks !
Pete
The HOBBYWING XR8 Plus would be the option then - 2s-6s, but def. a larger ESC
So will the XR8 SCT be discontinued?
Yes, I heard from the engineer from HW and both the Plus and SCT Pro are no longer being made.
@@TheRCNetwork 😭 was wanting the SCT for a future Bomber build....
Do they make a sensors less version
Not in the XR8 pro....you'd likely need to jump down to the EZRun/Max line of motors/ESC's
Will this Xr8 pro esc fit in a Traxxas slash 4x4 or a Tekno 410.3 sct? I’m very curious especially on the Tekno 410.3 sct as I’m looking at getting one snd using a full hobbywing power system.. xr8 pro, plus, or sct with a xerun 3200kv g2 motor
I’d get the Pro.....it will fit perfect in either truck, especially the SCT410.3. The Slash should work, although you might need to make a platform for it to sit on.
The Pro will have the latest tech from HW and is highly programmable.....and a full aluminum case
@@TheRCNetwork cool!! BUT Can the xr8 pro run in full sensored mode when paired with the hobbywing 3660 g2 3200kv motor? I been trying to look around but nothing is mentioned far as I can tell... I’d be using the Tekno 410.3 as a weekend or occasional racer (checked my local track only 5 miles from my house, they run pretty much anything you want to bring) and fun/basher rig
switch on the esc for simplicity BUT the main benefit would be... no wire to break as the switch would be part of the esc, attached to it more permanently.. I’ve seen and heard with esc power switches on a wire is prone to getting snagged and ripped off (in racing it can EASILY ruin your race as your esc can shut down or worse short out with their own wires getting bare contacting on your chassis)
Good day RC friends, does anyone know why I use 3s with this hobbywing 2200kv combo and an XR8PRO ESC
Are the batteries lasting 3 minutes? My batteries are 8000mah 80c 3s
but they last 3 minutes or less. Is the ESC being protected from something? The motor says in the manual that it is 2 to 6s.
and the ESC from 2 to 4s
But with 3s batteries I have not been able to make the batteries last more than 3 minutes. if someone could help me
Strange, you may want to reset your ESC and match your ESC to your radio again. But why would you be using a 3s only with a 2200kv?
Can it handle a 4s high voltage pack?
Yep, that's what I'm running in it
Is it waterproof?
This is a race system...no need to be waterproof
I can use a 1/10 motor whit the xr8 pro?
Yeah, sure!
On/, off switch should be mounted on esc
It all depends on the layout of the chassis though....
Hy bro, i want ask This esc supports 4s or 6s?? 🙏
It's a 2s-4s only ESC. The XR8 Plus handles 2s-6s
Thanks bro..
Looking for a nice strong motor for my Baja Rey somebody help me out please
The Baja rey takes a 550 canned motor, ideally on 3s. I'd suggest the Hobbywing Xerun 3660 3200kv motor
Hi from India
Hey! Thanks for watching
I like to see it run inaa Traxxas Hoss or Arrma Granite
Either would be cool!
a 1/8 pan car / serpent /mugun etc
I've never owned a Serpent.....
I would like to see it in 6s . 4s isn't fast enough for me.
Fast is relative. A properly set up 4s system can be faster than a 6s system any day of the week.....It all depends on the kv, gearing and terrain.
@@TheRCNetwork for a 25 lbs truck?
@@leeboykin6066 what truck is 25lbs that is a 1/10th or 1/8th scale that this is intended for?

I'd still stick with Hobbywing....
200 amps but only 4s?
It's plenty - as it's a racing ESC for 1/8th scale buggy
why did you quit your channel
Well, it was compounded by a few things: 1. I lost interest in RC. With all of the shop closures and track closures, there really wasn't much locally anymore. Even OCRC closed right before I decided to hang it up. 2. I gained some new hobbies that started taking up my time. I started mountain biking again and I bought a Tacoma TRD Off Road that has taken some of my time up vs. RC. 3. I work in a new job that has me filming/editing video much more than previous jobs. So, coming home at night/weekends and filming/editing wasn't something I wanted to do. 4. Vendors - the people sending out products to review were being quite difficult. As an example one company sent out a product to review in July 2021 - an RTR. Literally just sent it out with no communication. So, I did a review/unboxing of it and got practically threatened that I shouldn't have posted that video and I had better take it down. They even said they just forgot to communicate with me regarding the date of release. And that wasn't the first time. Keep in mind, this is all work I did in my extra time - away from family and other things.
@@TheRCNetwork thanks for the response I missed your content, I understand why now.
Limitless install please
That would be cool.....but this is only rated to 4s.......and most limitless are running 6s-8s
I’m wondering the same for the Limitless. If I am not going for super speed, will this be a good combo? I’m a eyes on the Spektrum set up, any good advise guys TIA
Is there a 6-8s sensored hobbywing system?
Team associted Rc8b3.2e install this esc
Only thing that fits in a Mp10e
excellent performance. Only complaint is it’s size Little bulky
False. I ran this in the TLR 8ight X Elite along with the Tekno EB48 2.0. It’s right about the same size as the RX8 from Tekin
This combo can fit on Baja Rey 1/10
I have seen people fit an 1/8th scale motor in the Rock ray....but honestly, it doesn't need it....and you'll have issues trying to find a decent 4s pack. Run a 3660 3200kv Motor on 3s. It will have plenty of power and will save the rest of your drivetrain
Thank you 👍🏻
Thank you 👍
1/8 HB e819rs...
Great buggy....just not a fan of that motor mount with finned motors like this one
4s ? meh
Honestly, I'd rather run a well tuned / sensored 4s system than 6s any day....
Switch on esc
Yeah, I agree
Aw only 4s
2s-6s would have been ideal....but 90% of the racing market will use 4s....and that's what this is designed for
S
G
Im thinking about putting this in a traxxas summit 1/10 im concerned about the low speed performance but imo i think they should for sure keep the power button as a separate thing i like to put the button close to where i can reach it without taking the body off
For slow speed, it is awesome…..it’s sensored.
@@TheRCNetwork need one for summit as well. Is esc actually waterproof?
Would you suggest this 1900kv motor for an e-truggy or something bigger like a 2000, 2200 or 2250kv? I'm building a Tekno ET48 2.0 and want something to run on a professional track that will be competitive at a pro event. It's not for bashing. Thanks
I'd get the larger can motor (4274) over anything. 2000kv would be my recommendation...torque over top end speed for truggy
@@TheRCNetwork I ordered the 4274. It's 2250kv which I originally thought would be too much. Thanks
waterproof?
No, this is a race combo. Being water proof is not a priority.
