- With some new electronics from HOBBYWING in studio, I wanted to turn some cameras on and show how I install my electronics in my Team Associated RC8B3e 1/8th scale buggy. This video is not a step by step video, but a progression via periodic time-lapse on the install which took right over 2 hours from start to finish.

Pro tip, when soldering a deans, or any connector really, plug it into another opposite blank one. When you solder it, the plastic melts and it will either be really tight or really loose, with another connector in the other end, it melts and stays in just the right spot.
Thanks Michael.....Yep, I have seen that before and well put.
I love the long vids because they give me something to listen to while I'm working on my car.
Yeah, as much of a pain it was to edit, I do the same....especially when there's live streams on FB/YT
Always fun to see a pro at work. Always taking the simple and logical way... makes thing easier.
Thanks for the great comments!
I was watching this last night while soldering up mine 😃👍
I put the Hobbywing setup in my Tekno eb48sl w/stock spur, 17t pinion, Savox 1256tg servo
I had to shave off a mounting bolt hole under the motor because it was hitting, the motor fits now 👌
after weighing my buggy with the new setup my buggy weighs 6 pounds 0.5oz w/o battery
Awesome Vid 👌
Nice! Glad to supply some back ground content! I do the same, watch longer RC related stuff while wrenching
The RCNetwork I love watching the channel & thanks for commenting 👍
I put the 4268 Off Road system into my RYFT Bouncer (fits like a glove !), and it is a BEAST !
Wow....it will probably tear the axles clean off of it!
several years later still looking great! I'm sure you've fashioned up a deans to XT adaptor for your charging needs!
Thanks buddy! yes, XT90 on all 4s now
Thanks Rich
It's always good to see how other people do certain parts of a build. Like you I have my religious routines.
I like to pre solder before I connect anything to the car, because of my nerves I shake too much and I'm worried about burning a plastic part of the car or a wire that's close by. I also use a Mr Solder jig to hold my xt150 connections. They are big but I find them easier to join or remove, plenty of connector to hold on to. I use a tool a bit like a helping hands, but it has flat clamps no teeth to eat in to your wire to pre tin and sometimes again because of the shakes to hold the wire to say the ESC. I then heat and solder. I have a dispenser that the solder roll sits in, just like a tape dispenser, you just pull the solder and doesn't roll away of the table. I'm always a little scared I'll cut the wires too short so I have a little more play than your style. Especially if the wires are mounted in the ESC and you can only trim the motor side. So yeah I have a pile of zip ties too. I saw a guy once pre tin his wires and he was particular about trying to get the solder to wick deep into the wire, so it went under the the silicone outer coating. I often do that with wire that's not hooked up to anything where heat will travel through the wire and damage say the ESC. Lastly I use a Hakko 888 (I think) a good iron is worth the money if your soldering lots.
Thanks again
Garszy
Thanks Garszy! It's nice to see what other people do as far an installs - You might be like me in a way, as I mostly work on my RC's alone.....
Great job my friend. Really enjoyed watching you work on this one.
Thanks PM! It was nice to just work on something without having to try and compile a perfect 6 minute video
Hakko makes the best soldering iron/station. It is used by professionals in the electronics industry. I own one it is fantastic.
Yes, I agree - but my TrakPower still does quite well
Same combo I use, once you go full sensored, there's no going back. Nice job 👍
Exactly. I try and explain that to people and they just don’t understand.
Ok you guys talked me into sensored. Wish my soldier jobs as nice as this one. Kraton exb should move really good
Great video Rich I really enjoy these type of videos they are very interesting, nice neat soldering very clean and tidy looks good thanks for sharing it with us.
No problem! Thanks for watching
Absolutely amazing install vid! Love the all white work station, no mess equipment & use of edit.
Thanks Michael! I want to have the area clean for all the viewers
Hi Rich, wow you should tag this vid as a tutorial on installing electronics I have been in the hobby for several years now and have watched countless tutorials on Rc's and this is may be the best & easiest video to follow I have ever seen. Awesome job!! I will have to give the vise grip trick a try next time I solder a Deans.
I have been considering swapping my Deans plugs out for the XT150's, I hate to go through the expense of doing it but with high amp draw it has been proven to lessen resistance and less resistance means a lot less heat which as you know less heat is always more better...🤗
Again Awesome vid, cant wait to see the Hobbywing system run vids...I been looking at that system for possible install on one of my 1/8 scale bashers. especially the motor I was disappointed to see that the new Castle Creations sensored line up does not include the 1515 2200kv motor....I been running my Mamba X esc's with Tekin sensored motors but I would like to try a more economical motor, I forgot and will have rewatch your unbox of that motor if it handles 6s...thanks bud have a great day!
Thanks Craig! Yeah, I like the XT150's on the Nero, but yeah, just the thought of switching everything out! I would be soldering for days! lol
All of HobbyWing's 4268 motors are 2s-6s compatible. The 1600kv, 1900kv and 2650kv
The RCNetwork
Thanks Rich, at my age and with my meds my short term memory is for poo...lol I know I you covered it in your vid and I have looked it up myself.... but for the life of me I couldn't say for sure off the top of my head without double checking...😕 Gawd getting old stinks...lol
But I still say that this vid should be the go to vid for newbies and many veterans wiring up their rigs on how too route their wiring and how to solder properly...AWESOME job my friend!
Nice to see I'm not the only one who has trouble deciding which way the ESC should be :P Still, looking good and glad to see proper unboxings (previous videos) on those 2 items I was planning to get to my old Xray SB9e. Had the older 150amp Hobbywing ESC and 2200kv motor earlier and perhaps getting that 2250kv (I race outdoors so I don't mind the slight extra speed to get over those 15 meter jumps). Yet again good video :)
Yeah, I always try for a clean install and planning is probably half the "install time"
amazing work, Rich! Love your videos and your professional way of doing RC stuff.
Thanks kr! Always good to hear it's appreciated and glad to do it!
looks awesome I have the exact same esc I bought over the summer for my losi 8th scale truggy an love it after years of using tekins hobbywing is the way to go
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Brook Hibbard what pinion do you use on your truggy with this setup
great video.
i actually like the sponge better...
the brass thing made my tip die faster, if you have the sponge soaked with water and little bits of solder ( i just drench the tip in solder and run it in the sponger and as the solder falls off rinse later and repeat) and go over it a couple times it comes out brand new every time
instead of chiseling at it with the brass sponge.
I haven't noticed any premature wear yet.....we will see.
Rich, another great video. Well edited and very informative. Will you be doing a follow up video on the Hobbywing Motor and ESC to let us know what you think comparing them to other products you have used? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Thanks Rheal! I'll have a recap video end of next week going over this set up and another HOBBYWING set up. Also a Wifi Express video. Then a full review of the electronics
That is great. I just ordered the new hobbywing XR8 SCT Pro ESC and and SMC v2 1900kv ROAR motor. Was wondering about the wifi express modul. Not much in the way of hobbywing reviews that I can find. Glad you are doing one. :) Look forward to any info you can give on features, feel, etc. Thanks again.
As always, great video Rich
Thanks Paul!
Sweeet fitting mine to my Losi aftershock tomorrow cool vid 👏👏
Nice! Thanks for stopping by!
Great install video mate. I found this very helpful. Thanks!!
Good deal! Thanks for watching!
Nice job rich😊✌🏻️looks awsome bro!!!
Thanks Frank!
I learned a lot from this video. Thanks🙏
Excellent work, very clean, how is the sensor wire on that esc, does it just push in tight like some of there other esc's, It would be nice to see the sensor wire click and lock into place! I finally switched out all my deans to ec5, they are kind of bulky and only take a max of 10 AWG, the price is right, looking forward to see the run vid. Nice to see you trying some hobbywing products, I am kind of curious to see how you stack them up to some of the other big names, I like my most of my hobbywing combos! Great video
Hey Corey - Yeah, I would love a sensor wire that snapped in too! This one seems to be snug fitting if that helps. I have put a very small drop of CA glue on one edge of sensor wires before on loose fitting ESC's - Just so it doesn't come loose.
great detailed video very good to watch thank you keep up the good work cant wait to see it running and showing us how to use the wifi program dongle
Yes, I will have a detailed Wifi Express video....trying to find an app to record my screen on my iPhone though
The RCNetwork ahh yeah screen capture or screen record is a good one cant remember exactly what its called
i just bought the hobbywing xr8 plus its on its way but havent bought the motor as yet my combo is going in my arrma senton v2 as the stock blx 180a shit itself
I just put this combo in the same buggy love it. I am try to see if I can program this ESC with the set button or do I have to get a programer
Thanks for the great video, I only wished you had shown how to program the ESC.
diablo2k there’s usually a video for that......like here: ruclips.net/video/DV9aWj0EBCs/видео.html
Great video! I've watched it a few times, lol I think the gear mesh was a little loose, what Adam Drake says... just the slightest play, rock back and forth, era on the side of tight to be sure to finish long mains. (Nitro) are you gonna get the new AE?
Thanks buddy! I've never stripped a spur to date (except for the Loss Mini 8ight T - but that was set from the factory). Oddly, I haven't had too many AE. on the channel since this and the B64d...
I have this same set up in my et48.3 only difference is I have the 2250 kv motor and I love it only things about them are the size of the esc had to solder the wires straight up n down and with reverse programmed it seems to skip the brakes made me nervous only used reverse during practice but still should be able to brake without going straight into reverse besides that I love this setup it's fast and responsive
And I program it with the wifi express
Nice! Yeah, the Wifi express is amazing!
What a great video.
Thanks Craig!
Great job!
Thanks 3M's!
thanks for the help, I got mine set just like yours
Glad to help! It's a pretty good set up
can you do a video explaining the settings on the esc and what each setting does?
I will have a full explain on the HOBBYWING Wifi Express very soon!
Dude all your rigs are awesome and video work is great. I got a quick question if you don't mind what would you say was your best backyard basher kit been looking at the proline pro mt
The ProMt is probably the best 2wd back yard basher. (period)
Hi there! Very clear your video. I just purchased this ESC. I would like to know if I can set the ESC into Forward/brake/reverse mode without the LCD programmer box, because so far I cannot get the reverse function in any way. So, do I have to buy the LCD programme box to set the reverse mode on my ESC?
+Alberto Martos del Rincón it can be programmed, but as I can tell, only through wifi express or the LCD programming box. Your authorized dealer may have one to help you initially program, or the LCD goes for about $27 from hobbywing direct
Ok. Thank you for the information.
Love the look, any potential problems with the heat coming off the motor in relation to how close your motor wires are?
Naw, they're coated in high grade silicon - should be fine
Sweet! Just wondering, any videos of this monster hitting the track?
Not yet. I took some "me time" on Sunday and ran both cars (with the HOBBYWING electronics) no cameras, just driving and tuning for about 8 hours!
Subd. I see you use double sticky tape. I never had any luck with that stuff for my bashers. I'm ordering this combo for my HPI Savage 21 conversion (I know there is a lot to do lol). Did you consider using the mounting bracket the ESC came with?
I've been using the same tape for years now.....Never had an issue as long as both surfaces are clean (use alcohol to clean) You can use the plate it came with....I just stuck top old faithful (3M clear silicon tape)
Surface definitely must be clean but a trick I also have learned is to use a lighter and lightly hear the tape just before I stick it to whatever. Usually have to use a thin pry bar to get esc off of car. Gorilla brand double sided tape is amazingly strong once I ckean, heat, stick it. Forget it
love the hobbywing stuff, 1 question though, why do you still use deans on such a powerful setup, deans is good for about 60 amps, makes no sense to me
I've never personally had issues with Deans, even on 6s....but I am changing my mind as of late and just ordered some XT90's
Cool man, i just went off some good advice from Vasco and changed all my stuff to ec5
great video....very useful
Thanks for watching, Greg!
Hello from Germany :-) Can you please tell me what you've taken for a motor pinion? Thank you and Merry Christmas! :-)
Absolutely Love your Videos! big like and Subbed!! ps. I just ordered this exact ESC/Motor Combo. I got the 2250kV motor. How are you liking it so far?
Nice! It's a beast! I got a chance to run it last weekend and it's super smooth, very powerful and the brakes are great!
heat guns are awesome
You instal hobbywing electronic...but why you switch for Tekin? Any problem? Or its just to run tour review stuff?
Thanks for your Nice vids.
Cleeeeeaaaannn set up
Thanks! I always try and have clean set ups...
Awesome video. Feel confident I can do this build after your demo. 1 question if you have the time. What would be the maximum voltage single 6s Lipo battery that I could power a XERUN 4268SD ••1600kV•• w/ XERUN XR8-Plus 150A? Could I use a 11.1V 5600mAh 50CLiPo Battery or something even more powerful? I'm using it to power a cable cam / zipline camera and I am trying to get maximum power from 1 battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Bro Ben, the 1600kv motor can take 6s, which is 22.2 volts....You can use two of those batteries in series connection to make it 6S....there are 6s batteries out there though.
Hey man so how did the hobbywing xr8 do i never seen running vid
+1
Man that car is sexy. I keep thinking I want a Mugen MBX7R but that AE is just beautiful...
Thanks 1RXr! Yeah, I have driven both, and although they may look similar, they drive a bit different. Also, parts for the AE are readily available and a bit cheaper
Question I recently pick up an old rtr RC10 T3 I built it an it came with another LRP esc, it’s brushed I’m new to electric’s normally deal with nitro but anyways, long story short it was slow tried different gearing different brushed motor said screw it went brushless I got a Hobbywing EZRUN combo with the max10 ecs & 5400 kv brushless motor I wired everything up set my end points on my esc an everything seemed find I’m still running nimh batteries I’m going to get lipos tomorrow, but the thing is once I set the car on the ground with 25% throttle it drives fine but anything after that 25% my steering cuts in an out an so does my throttle but when it’s off the ground with no load on the tires everything is ok an I disabled LVC also cause the manual said since I’m running nimh batteries do that an that might solve the problem but it didn’t, would you have a clue to what the problem might be ?
You had me till deans connector...🤓
Gus nice! 😃. I've honestly never had an issue with Deans.....but I've switched all my 3s packs and rock Racers to XT90 as a test. I do like the easy of plugging, but the plugs are huge! We will see...
i'm sure you are using shrink instead of the XT90 covers, right? because that helps a bit with the size thing. i was always a Deans user too but these days, with the massive current of everything...and running stuff at high cell counts, i had to switch. i like the anti-spark XT90s for 6S setups.
hey great vid i have a slash 4x4 would that be a good upgrade ?
You don't need an 1/8th scale system for the Slash.....Look at the XR8 SCT ESC and the Xerun 3660 4300kv motor...that would be a great upgrade: amzn.to/2g7Z6mH amzn.to/2g6iGzY
great vid
Thanks Stephan!
What solder do you use and what temperature or watts are you use on the solder gun? Thank you
steve young a link to the solder I use is in the video description. I usually solder at 750-800 degrees depending on the wire
Nice
Thanks
Hello I’ve got the same esc but the 2250 motor I was wondering if you had any problems the the brake setting it up. I can’t get my b3.1e to stop when I use the controller. You got any tips or ideas. Thanks
Very nice 👌. Can you make a Running Video pls?
Thanks Niels. I do have two running videos of the B3e: ruclips.net/video/EYJFROZ2Q1g/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/_H7wjvlFKYU/видео.html
Thanks ;-). I know, but not a running Video with the Hobbywing set up ;-(.
Hello, what product do you use on each screws at the beginning of the video?
Thank you
Thread Lock - this stuff lasts a pretty long time: amzn.to/2pNcPmD
notice u don't flux the connections, solder flows better into the wires.Less gloppy look for a cleaner finish.
Nope, I never have, and really haven't had an issue.....90% of the time. Thanks for the input though
All diffs are smooth with out diff oil 🤔
Not sure what you mean....when I spun the driveline, it was with out a motor/pinion....
Need a videos off all part to build a rc car please
How are HW motors for bash? I am building an 8ight XTE and building it more towards a bash machine. Do these compare well to the Castle motors?
They're great motors and can take a beating! I recently put this smallish motor in a Arrma Kraton EXB 0 and it did great.
@@TheRCNetwork Well I called to ask a few preliminary questions...Absolutely awful service, run around and around...Bad first impression. Looking for other options. Pure bash, non race set up. Would pay the freight on Tekin but everyone tells me don't get one for Bash. Forget Hobbywing, horrible company to deal with.
@@jc51373 what questions do you have? I answer based on experience that I’ve had with the products.
@@TheRCNetwork thanks man but they were really specific questions to HW about compatibility and what telemetry features I'd lose with a spektrum ESC if I get a sensored HW motor (4274) would it even work with Spektrum etc etc. I've decided whatever motor I get it has to be in combination with an ESC and given up trying to keep the Spektrum integration and telemetry across every car. So it's between Castle, and HW, until I called HW and tried to deal with them. So Castle for now and I am open to other motor suggestions at this point. This is a bashing set up on a Losi 8ight XTe.
Hi I have the same combo in my losi 8ight e 4.0 just wondering what size pinion did you use and what would be a good size for large outdoor racing
I would go off of the manual spec from Losi.....as gear ratios (in the diffs) will differ between the AE and Losi. Typically you'll be in the 15t-18t - ish
The RCNetwork ok I'll take a look at the manual, I'm running out of legs on the straight away, I'm also worried if I go to big with gearing I'll over heat the system
Can i use this motor with the ezrun max 8 hobbywing esc instead of the 2200kv motor it comes with
Sure, but you won't be running the motor as a sensored motor (the EZ run lineup is all sensorless)
hi mate, love your chanel, but its the music, its to loud, is there any chance you could turn it down or off please. sorry if i sound like im being a pain in the back side, but it really does my head in. i don't mind if you tell me to get lost.keep up the good work anyway.
michael Montgomery I use music as an editing tool to get through the boring sections. I get that not everyone likes the music, but you do have a volume adjustment, I’m sure! 😃
I am building this right now my drivetrain does not seem as freely moving though any tips can anyone help?
Awesome video bro but the music is very distracting and loud. Just my opinion
I use copyright free music as a way to keep the momentum of the video going....would you rather sit in silence during the sped up parts? Also, I can't please everyone...but thanks for at least "watching"
For buggy,, xr8 or mamba Castel 1515?
XR8, I never use Castle......bad experiences with them
@@TheRCNetwork oke thx
I am doing a similar set up. xr8 plus with a xerun 4068 2250kv, should I go with a 4274 2250kv? its a xray buggy
Rodrigo Mincoff 4068 is plenty for the XRay
What gauge solder wire do you use?
looks like he has .03
i prefer .05 or so for soldering larger gauge stuff. less feeding needed. i use MG Chemicals 60/40 rosin core.
Hey Rich, a non rc related question. what is name of the song at 10:40?
soundcloud.com/andrewapplepie/talk-to-me-boy
oh neat
Thanks L!
I just got mine to put it a Losi 8ight-t. But I have not been able to calibrate it for some reason. Instead of flashing green lights, I get the green lights and then blinking red light. Can someone help me please!!!
Ooops. I should say that the one I got, is the EZRun Max8 Esc combo with 2200KV 4274 Motor. Heeeeelp!!!
What’s the diameter of motor shaft
I'm confused it's like 1000kv wouldn't that thing be crawling slow
This is a 1900kv motor, and if you run it on 4s (14.8volts) it's plenty fast and lots of torque
The RCNetwork but I thought you couldn't run 3s or 4S in racing
cfo auto detail in 8th scale they run 4s-6s
cfo auto detail We run 4s with 1/8th Scales and 2s on the 1/10 Scale track
What I was saying is just that it better be smooth with nothing on the diffs especially for the money everything is just so over priced rite now it’s crazy..
now ypu cant put a heat sink or a cooling fan on the motor
caspar jenk why would you need to? This is a Race Buggy that's appropriately outfitted with the right electronics....that motor will never get ove 140 degrees.....
my old novak was much smaler the the 1 that ur in stalling and i use to run 10th scale road cars about late 80s
Quite a bit of years difference and of course power/amp changes have occurred....
back then it was on 32 oz and runn like a bat out of hell
Ma non sono meglio i connettori xt90 ? I deans fanno scintille e vanno bene fino a 50A le 1/8 hanno potenze elevate
I've since switched to XT90's - although I have never had a deans fail
@@TheRCNetwork thanks
Why on earth would you swap out the Tekin RX8 gen 2 esc for a hobbywing esc that Tekin RX8 gen 2 esc is the best you can get is it because of the WiFi module , the hotwire 3.0 will be out in about a month and it has WiFi
James Mason believe me, I'm a HUGE Tekin fan and have featured their products in more custom vehicles than I can remember. What I do like is change and HobbyWing is providing a new(er) way to program via wifi express. Honestly, dragging a laptop (which I have no more windows based computers) or buying a $100 cheap tablet that I have to keep charged, maintained, etc is not the ticket. I always have my iPhone with me and programming the XR8 is a breeze. Data logging, max temps recorded....it's amazing. I know that Tekin is on the brink....but it's taking too long. I will always be a Tekin fan, but this wifi express is great.
The RCNetwork my info is from Randy Pike at Tekin and hotwire 3.0 will have WiFi and be out in a month or so thank you for the reply and keep up the good work
James Mason yep, I know Randy as well....
Tekin is crap, the XR8 is far superior
James Mason just thought I'd update this post. Hotwire 3 with Bluetooth (not wifi) just hit the streets about 2 weeks ago - even though your comment stated "in one month" and you made that 5 months ago. Another thing I found is that you have to set your RX4/8 up with a Windows based computer to "turn the fan on" to be able to use the Hotwire 3. Another hoop to get it going. Like I said before, huge Tekin fan, but HobbyWing has the quirks worked out initially. I still run Tekin in most of my 1/8th scales and my Axial Yeti
Hey Rich I know this vid is old, but I came back to it to install my XR8 that replaced my RX8. Just wanted to say thanks & show you the result.😁
imgur.com/gallery/GHpQqrS
Thanks buddy, I'll check it out - looks great, nice and clean!
Deans connectors are a real bitch to disconnect. 🤷🏻♂️😖🤦♂️ That’s my opinion. Is that pretty common?
Yes, can't agree more. I've switched to XT90's for 3s and 4s and XT60's for 2s packs
Deans too much resistance and outdated..the trend now is xt150..
I've never personally had an issue with Dean's, so I guess that's why I haven't changed the entire fleet.....plus it would be a HUGE task
The RCNetwork haha..ya very hard to change but you should try it especially on big amps and volts these days..you will see the difference..resistance equals heat..
I didn't watch the whole vid I skipped thru buy got me wondering why you're using same annoying music as cassie nastyat lmao
Alex Afa yeah, I went through a phase 😃. But I hope you didn’t come here for the music....
The RCNetwork Definitely not for the music. Just checking out some vids on rc cars and builds.
