    Hi! I have grown up in the twin cities, and def agree with everything! if you ever want to connect the Twin Cities Urban League has a large young professional network, as well as the MPLS NAACP, the black community is small, but we are mighty! I think the urban league has a whole "New to MN" group where they talk about things just like this! best of luck in the tundra!

    Thank you so much for creating multiple videos for those of us moving from the south to Minneapolis! You're right, there's hardly any resources for black people on how to navigate the city prior to moving there.

    I had a similar experience purchasing winter boots when I lived there; my boots were not insulated and I hated myself for not listening to the saleswoman when she tried to warn me 😄 Definitely a must buy when I move back

    Just watched one of your older videos. I guess you chose to bring your car after all? I know you had considered leaving it down south. Anyway, very informative channel. I’m in Alpharetta,Ga. and have always been curious about the Midwest and have dreams of white winters every year!! Plus ..this GA summer humidity is 😒😬😬😬. What cities in MN would you say are comparable to the Alpharettas and Roswell,Gas of the world??

    Hi Helen
    Thank you so much for sharing your experience while moving to Minneapolis. it's so helpful to me since am looking forward to moving to Minneapolis after i graduate from college as a junior software engineer.
    I've been watching most of your videos moving to Minneapolis, Apartment Hunt and landing a Job as a software engineer and it has shared more light on how I've to prepare way before i move right there.
    I need much of your help about your Minneapolis experience as a software engineer, i can't wait to watch your next video.

    You are definitely a southerner girl. All the things that you named are legit a way of life being from Chicago. I listened to your video also on finding an apartment in Minneapolis, and the lack of certainty cosmetic updates and_or amenities 😅 Welcome to the twin cities!!!

    Shit is getting real! I made it until today without breaking out my winter coat and boots. After that bus ride from downtown to St. Louis Park I’m bundling up! Moved here in July from down south and I’ve adjusted, but them negative temps coming

      😭😂 At least you have a coat !!! When that polar vortex came earlier this year I knew I’d messed up by not getting a real coat. Thanks for watching !!

    Hey! I’m so glad I found you. I’m moving to Minneapolis next month and I’ve been trying to do my research before the big move. I’m trying to debate if I should bring my car. I saw in your other video you left your car behind, but I noticed in this video you said you pay for parking. So would you say it’ll be beneficial for me to bring my car?

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  4 года назад +2

      I went without a car for about four months and then had it sent to me. I’m honestly seriously considering selling it. I’m getting used to the bus system now and the extra cost of $300 a month is something I can save. So...I guess I would say Minneapolis is a city you can navigate without a car but I understand that some want the convenience of a car. I hope that helps!thanks for watching !

      I brought my car here and sold it about 2 months ago. Bus system is great as long as you live near a stop. Most places charge for parking so it’s damn near another car payment in some cases.

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  4 года назад +1

      Cameran Powers yes! I dont have a car payment but am still feeling the discomfort for having to pay for parking. The only thing that’s a downside is sometimes the bus is late and the app DRAINS my battery like crazy. But at this point, I’m thinking it’s worth it if I save $3k a year.

    Really appreciate your videos. Moving from SC to Duluth in the spring. Did you have any issues transferring your vehicle to Minnesota? Also any other issues that you've dealt with with moving from the south to minnesota?

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  3 года назад +1

      Hey! I didn’t have any issues with the transfer. I sold my car earlier this year though and I now ride public transport. Parking is definitely something you want to consider. You can pay almost as much per months for parking as you would for a pet ($100-$300) per month. The exact price depends on whether it’s covered, climate controlled, etc. Thats one the big issues we don’t really have to think about in the south. Thanks for watching !

    I’ve fairly recently heard that Minneapolis has house mice like the South has roaches. Have you had any experiences with that?

    • @HelenBelenShow
      @HelenBelenShow  4 года назад +2

      Caridae Pittman oh my goodness! No I have not experienced that. However, I don’t live in a home; I live in an apartment. I have not heard any of my co-workers who live in homes mention that though. Thanks for the comment !

    • @nickj4526

      Caridae Pittman
      A lot of places do have mice, especially in the winter. They look for warmer shelter and usually squeeze into the cracks of old homes. Newer apartments don’t usually have them unless the tenets are filthy. If you keep your place really clean and put food away you shouldn’t have any problems.
