Discovery channel is missing a huge opportunity.
A TV show "American Lowrider" would be a hit.
Lowriders aren't my style but there is so much work and tallent that goes into those things that it would make for great telivision.

First things first. God bless your wife for having your back. I don't keep track of how much I have spent/mispent on my 61 (I don't want to depress myself lol) but I estimate its probably around the same amount. I lucked out and bought a lot of stuff pre-covid so I got lucky there. I always joke with my family that another 100,000 dollars into the car and I will be halfway to being finished.

Congratulations on the completion of your '60 Chevrolet Impala convertible. It's impressive that it was built by you, your wife, and friends, in your garage/shop. Thank you for documenting the build as well. This is definitely a learning tool for anyone building a classic automobile. Most importantly I appreciate your sharing the cost of the build. Although not inexpensive, the cost to completion is far less than what a reputable shop would charge/cost. I say, "building a classic car is not for those faint of wallet". Not only is it expensive, but (as you stated) it's a commitment. Congratulations and thank you again for sharing your build with us all.

    Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!
Great Video to explain to others a little about the build and the cost.
People can have a plan/idea to build some car to race/restore/custom or any other type.
The problem is thru no fault of their own they lack funds/experience/tools/connections/people to talk too and a place to work long term.
AKA they have no idea how long or how much money they need.
You are lucky to have a group of guys that can work together and have different skills.
And you help each other for long amounts of time.
Some people like to have a lot of help but after they finish their project you never see them again.
Not your guys they always show up to help each other all the time.
Very rare to have a group like this.
Even after all the money that was spent Mrs. Lownstar had enough to get her Nails done 🙂
As my Wife would say "It's not how you feel it's how you look" words to live by........................

Love the car and this video, really cool when you show and brake it all down like this. A couple things worth mentioning is learning new things by doing them yourself and the satisfaction afterward. (cant put a price on that) Another thing is time, if you would let someone else build it for you (different shops) alot of stuff can go wrong/take waaay longer then anticipated…We all heard those kind of stories and life is seldom a straight line without bumps along the way. And the longer it takes the chance of something unforseen happening increases, or you just drop your own motivation along the line.

I do belive your hours are probably more due to stop and starts and hold ups. I know clowns that have had cars for 10 years and still in pieces. Then one shop had a Truck so long the owner died. As you know there are people and Shops that just can't complete a build.

i would consider your estimate at beginning very good. no one can foresee infation or things that just dont work exactly as expected and lead to additional costs.

How was the kick planet install? I bought a set that hold speakers and look similar to what you have for my '64 and have been trying to figure out how to install them.

    • @lonestarlows
      @lonestarlows  3 месяца назад

i used the original kick panel retainer. screw that into the jamb first then the plastic panel fits in it and kind of bunches up against the carpet and stays in place

Investing over 100k on a lowrider is conservative. But to the person who builds his dream.. worth every penny.. with that said, when the time comes to sell it.. the clients is another lowrider enthusiasts, whether domestically or international. If restored back to factory specs and document every step with pictures, receipts, man hours, etc. Then, potential clientele expanded to deep pocket collectors of classic Detroit. I had a 65 Impala SS 396 L78 big block restored pro touring frame off, which I sold for 140k, which was exported to Australia. I'm definitely certain if I restored it as a lowrider, as many suggested.. I wouldn't have been close to getting even 80k

I agree. Just depends on clientele...
